WvW players could learn a ton from watching the best players. Jumping into PvP can be intimidating for casuals, but it is by far the best implementation of the fantastic combat system in this game. Advertising helps more people make the jump and builds the player base.

The buff always seems to bring out the mouthbreathers. By the time their ratings begin to settle in, the buff is gone and the damage is done to regular pvpers. Some people in my guild simply avoid pvp until the buff is gone.

T1 Server - Why Stay?

T1 has the best roaming simply because it has the most coverage. Some times are very zergy, i.e. reset and certain maps where float zergs are converging. One just needs to learn what areas to avoid and ways to create advantageous engagements.

I can always find small fights and have definitely honed my awareness trying to avoid getting facerolled. Plus the general trend is for players to migrate up tiers, staying in T1 ensures longevity and less boredom.

Roaming is a nice casual, relaxing activity when I don’t feel like queueing, or have had one too many single malts. If I am feeling competitive, I obviously go tPvP.

Are you serious? The blob is going to be the one who stunlocks their smaller opponents.

If you call a group within your group a “hammer train” or “front line”, then I call you a blob. Maybe my definition is too strict…

Blobber arguing about how their slightly smaller blob defeated the larger blob using pro stability rotations is a pot meet kettle situation.

The problem is, folks are so thin skinned that any critique is seen as “toxic”. There really are occasions when a teammate is useless and deserves some amount of instruction to avoid wasting people’s time.

Competitive GW2 is designed for 5 v 5. The more people you add above 5, the more casual it becomes.

I have finally come around to the truth that you can’t discourage mediocre players from zerging together. The “baddie light bulb” turns on and the moths gather.

Though I actually really like the new changes, roaming skill groups have more incentive to help their server.

DCing does have a major effect on a match even the the instances where players are “only gone for a minute”. I hope dishonor gets enabled again soon so they get more of a penalty.

Almost forgot to add that pvp devs said bringing back soloq was off the table, they are “satisfied” with their new system. If any dev wants to reply to this, they would explicitly say soloq is coming back. (no response to my comment)

They don’t need to add a new queue just more strict filters. They are being “hesitant” despite nearly universal reports of the system not meeting expectations.

Solo queue would be alive and well (contained within the same queue) if they merely changed a few parameters.

If you queue solo you should either face solos (and maybe 2 man teams) OR you should fill out a team playing another team. Very simple. What is it taking so long?

The other, less desirable option is to multiply a team’s MMR dependent on the number they have in group such that top tier solos get faced against mid tier teams.

And to the many, many mediocre premades bragging about beating solos…I ask this. What about the update improved your skill level so much? Did the light just turn on? Did you finally get a feel for the game? Is your true potential finally being realized?

OR could it possibly be you are now facing better players in compromised team compositions (in other words, solos).

Na, let’s just stick with you got a whole lot better.

It’s not just the communication that helps pre-mades. You need to also realize that it is a group of players selected because they are at least somewhat skills versus a pub of players at variable skill levels. Pre-mades are also more willing to cooperate whereas pub groups tend to resort to complaining and insisting that each individual player is in fact the most skilled and has the best plan.

I agree, I’d like to see what more we can do to encourage pubs to cooperate more. On my wish list is a team finder that analyzes all your games and suggests other pub players to potentially team with based on your past history with them.

Another idea is letting you keep your pub team through the next queue if you won.

Anyone else have any ideas?

For most players, the increase queue times will hardly be noticed. For the outliers, it will likely be several fold worse.

Fair enough, have you adjusted the MM in the past day or so? I will give it another go with an open mind (the first few days left a bad taste).

It may seem like 1 1 1 1 1 v 5 when the stomp is on, however 4 1 v 1 1 1 2, 4 1 v 1 1 1 1 1 and 3 2 v 1 1 1 1 1 can be nearly as painful and it seems like a full 5 man premade when in fact it may be not. However the result is often the same 500 to less than 200 final score.

The single biggest factor is the presence of a team, end of story. I see the same players solo and in teams getting stomped and doing the stomping respectively.

It’s not like their talent suddenly improves when they are teamed up. It’s really bad right now and it gives the premades a false impression of their own competence while at the same time denying then true competition.

The teams are not composed of better players. They should merely be matched against other teams who also have communication at their disposal and not have the built in trump card of facing solos that more than makes up for individual skill deficiencies.

Every team with 3 or more players should have to face a similar composition, then it’s a dice roll on which side gets the better solos or duo. Pure solo + duo teams should never be paired against an opposing team that includes a team of 3 or more, never.

Just test by using various builds on classes and having 2 or 3 guys on various combos of classes damage you OP while you cycle through your skills and time how long you last on classes.

What I have read from other posters have don’t seem to take into account opponents.

My guess is a guardian is still better than others for bunking points if you just measured by how long a class can last.

Guards do way better in group bunk mode IMO.

That’s where you are wrong.

The old school 0/0/2/6/6 virtue bunker is more capable of “stalling” than most any build out there without the requirement of having teammates nearby to supply boons to and proc AH heals. With a competent team the AH build shines, but the OP asked for a “pure” bunker.

I still think it would be best to split Solo and Team again, but I’ll give it more time to let MMR settle before making a final judgment. (I do see why, from an efficiency perspective, it’s best to keep all Unranked and Ranked players together.)

Won’t matter people will work out a way to farm solo players for whatever lame reward they want in the current system. This is what happens in every single game without a SoloQ; basically, every MMO ever until this one. So basically they took teh one really good thing about their pvp and removed it.

60% of my games were good before the patch. 30% within 50 points. Lately, about 20%. Very significant drop in fun.

Removing soloQ was a mistake and in typical Anet fashion they don’t admit to mistakes and make us suffer for them.

Current Patch: significantly long team queues, team v pug, less 4v5 at first but increasing
Previous Patch: shorter team queues, solo and team largely split, could get bad streaks of 4v5

Seriously, would not dishonour in itself limit 4v5? We did not need all these changes.

Being active is a valid component of any ladder. Under the old system all one had to do was avoid other top teams and win one “easy” match every now and then to reset ladder decay.

It seems the new system can only lead to more activity and more “top teams” facing off against each, improving competition…but I suspect match dodging will still occur.

Any changes just give the malcontent and blame-prone players more arrows in the excuse quiver to fire when they should be objectively examining their own play and the actual results from the matches of the evening. It’s human nature to strongly remember the blow-outs and allow the mind to gloss over all the fair, competitive match-ups.

The state of the forums these days seems whenever someone has a bad game they come to forum because it MUST be the new system’s fault…

There are definitely more blowouts today. It’s not fun winning 500-100, nor is it fun losing 100-500. I had both types of games today, and it’s an indication of very poor matchmaking. The weekend was great — what happened since then?

During weekend there were more ppl/teams queing up so matchmaking was better, it had always been like that…the less ppl queing up the worst the matchmaking works (Well it never worked that fine anyway)

That’s why when we still had old ladder going with full team during odd times was the best way to safe win matches in order to reset ladder decay wihout risking getting matched up with another good team and maybe losing.

That’s how high ladder works pretty much, and keep in mind that before queing with your team you already know which teams are queing and who you’re probably going to face when you get in….waiting for someone getting out from matches..or waiting for someone else starting another match before submitting…

It’s not all about stomping ppl you know

These are the same people that complain about boring farm matches, yet they actively avoid other good teams to protect rating? Sad indeed.

At least after the 16th there will be incentive to play more and to not nurse an outdated MMR…hopefully

Vastly more people WvW on the top 3 tiers, why disrupt more people when you can roll the dead server players into the more active tiers. Minimal disruption and we get fewer threads about how dead it is down in T8.

In the meantime, help yourselves. Transfer to a server with action during your normal playtime…it’s an obvious solution. Then you will be in game playing and not trying to imagine ways to “revive” a server, which in the end is pointless because the limited population will always be a barrier.

If you like low population, stay…it’s really simple.

Solo and small group roaming will benefit from this change. It is great that our efforts will properly reward the server. Map blobs doing the avoidance/back capping dance will suffer, it’s a win, win.

It may even have the benefit of reducing the zerg size and promote smaller, tactical groups that can achieve a high K/D ratio. Anything that discourages lazy play and promotes aggression is a good thing imo.

Trust me I feel your pain. TC has been stuck with JQ and BG for god knows how long now, it’s the reason why I don’t WvW anymore. When we drop down to tier 2 for a week or two I’ll rejoin WvW, not saying TC stay in tier 2, but a break from Tier 1 would be refreshing and worth playinv WvW again.

I love how the options op presents are negative.
Also love people saying how they rather get killed a lot and have “fun” as if thats any true, and lastly I love the remarks of some people on how they roam solo to duel.

Guess what, as far as WvW is concerned, thats very useless, second only to afk on WP.
Not to mention you’ll almost always gonna find yourself outnumbered.

WvW is won by either joining the big group, or supporting the big group with supplies, building/refreshing siege, snipe dolly/camps, scout and report the enemy zerg location, etc.

Roaming around looking for duels adds nothing, those 5 stomps you might pull out an hour are neglectable.
Right now is not so bad because of the low % of players, but when you have 100+ queue…

So for those that do solo duel you may get off your high horse of delusional superior skill, if anything engaging multiple targets in a big fight can be much more demanding since there’s A LOT more going on.
Even the times I spend an hour siegeing up say Bay ALONE are more productive for the server than duels.

I do not agree the only other option to zerging is solo roaming or looking for duels, there is plenty of area between, and roaming and dueling are often not the same activity.

From a PPT perspective, what is more effective for your server? 1 group of 50 or, let’s say, two groups of 15, a group of 10 and 2 groups of 5. I submit the later for most situations (PPT-wise).

From a “fights perspective”, doesn’t your individual impact increase as group size decreases? I find the combat system is at it’s best when in a group of 5, but each to their own.

Finally, from the comments it seems there is a broad swath of people who like the low stress, low accountability environment of the zerg. That’s fine and it is fun to run around the map as a big server group, but it’s not optimum for either the objective of winning the weekly match-up or encountering difficult fights to improve guild skill and coordination.

I am honestly curious…maybe a touch negative (zergs are not my preferred play style) and I am wondering what drives so many people to this “style”.

To your point, armies do fight armies but in modern warfare they don’t engage the entire force in one spot. They employ more strategy where individual and small squad contributions have greater impact.

Second, is the “big picture” winning the PPT battle with your single group army? I don’t understand what you mean by big picture.

I also PvP and enjoy it very much…thank you for the advice.
