Suggestion to AR, get yourselves a Teamspeak, Vent, something so you can coordinate regardless of the map you’re on in WvW. Ebay does this, and because of that our response times get pretty fast.

Ryu how do you control that many people on TS, Vent etc? Is there a hierarchy? Only commanders in this room, sub-commanders/guild leaders in this room, everybody else use what ever?

It works for EBay but I’m interested in how you order it to prevent all the potential chaos TS can turn into.

I’d be more than happy to explain the effort and detail that goes into it. We’ve put a lot of time into keeping it organized/up-to-date, and we’ve even got a “staff” of dedicated individuals that are equally devoted to its maintenance. It’s been kind of a constant work-in-progress since then as we only had about 80 people online at the time, and now it’s about 4x that size. How do we manage 300+ players on it at one time while getting every guild/group the permissions and freedom they desire? Pretty kitten well I’d say.

Ryu explained the basic gist of it, but there’s a lot more that goes into the server and channel groups. I feel that we’ve got a pretty efficient system in place now though. Again, I’d be more than happy to discuss the finer details with anyone who’s interested. Just message me.

You all can field +300 people in WvW?! Or is that just the total number of folks on TS at any given time?

It’s not all WvW, but on reset nights when it hits those numbers, it mostly is. Like I said a few times in this thread, we can field some pretty good numbers, but the only times everyone is really in WvW is on Friday. Otherwise, there’s a lot of people just hanging out waiting for us to bother them with a message “GET HERE NAO”. Usually it’s more in the range of ~200 on a regular night. Still, that’s the reason behind our response time.

People can call us unskilled all they want in this thread and laugh/kittenol/whatever, but it won’t change the fact that we have awesome communication. We can have 20-30 people in a borderland channel from an arrangement of all guilds and pugs alike (at any given time), and they may not even be in the same borderland. A lot of the time, we are just keeping eachother updated on events in other maps while talking about cats or Game of Thrones or why British accents are mmmmm sekzy. When it’s confirmed that something is happening, we just make a shout over all the jokes or whatever the hell people are talking about at the time. People get serious, and we go do whatever it is we need to do.

So no, outside of reset night, we can’t field those numbers. However, we do have them all on call if need be. One of the silent agreements these guilds make by joining our TS is that we can bug them to help out if help is needed. I take advantage of that unspoken arrangement as often as I can, and I know plenty of others do as well.

I understand all to well the ability to move troops from one area to another with clear commands is essential to combat effectiveness. Hats off to you guys. It requires skill, training and perseverance for your server to work together in that fashion.

AR really needs to do this. How much is TS?

TS client is free, paying someone to host it is cheap, especially if you spread the cost with say a Paypal account people can donate to. Back when GOAT existed I had a 100 person TS server that was not much $$

The lack of in game voice chat is very noticeable, if Anet had bothered to put something like that in, it would have gone a long ways to help pugs organize. Simply put it would have helped Raise the bar in wvw for all servers. Instead the onus is on the players to use third party means to improve communications.

Sounds like your server does have a public TS server, it would be well worth your time to use it in wvw

For the record about us “unfortunate Anvil Rockers”: neither I, nor [vT], give a kitten about your typical unskilled and mindless karma train and go well out of our way to avoid it. Instead, we prefer smaller, skilled fights. You know, the ones where you don’t hit 1111111111111211111111 and call it “winning”. I’d rather be the former sort of “Anvil Rocker” any day over the latter, where score doesn’t matter and skilled skirmish fights are king.

The “alliance” is still kitten. It’s a kitten idea and no doubt going to be kitten in execution, too, after the bang-up job of the last “brilliant plan” that was being touted in map chat.

Frankly, I hope it breaks down so I don’t have to see Dawn of Destruction and whoever else spamming in Eternal Battlegrounds about how no one should attack any Borlis Pass players, because alliance(!!!11``).

Here’s a better idea for the brainiacs out there: learn your classes and fight better; the rest will take care of itself.

I run 3 Monitors with AMD Eyefinity at 5760×1080 for a resolution across 3 24inch LED monitors.

Its awesome being able to call out groups that running off to our side out of the normal FOV.

Trying to pay attention to the Chatbox on the far left monitor does suck tho.

Main is a Necro, got champ Phantom title about halfway on Mes with title.

I do well with my Necro in WvW level 80 exotics and I know the class.

My mes level 30 even upleveled the mes works soooooo much better in WvW.

Few things Necros best spec is conditions…… its boring after a time and not good for WvW. Mes has very solid conditions specs with top tier direct damage specs, you are not giving anything up picking Mes over Necro and you gain alot more useful things from mes….. its just a better class. Necros fill a role in Tpvp there are much better classes to fill necros role in WvW and PvE Mes is one of those classes.

I still main play my necro simply because i like playing underdog classes. Unlike alot of Necros I dont fool myself into thinking the class is great. I know my mes is faceroll strong and easier to play.

I can’t comment about high end spvp or pve, but the above poster is pretty spot on with wvw. As someone else wrote: Necro’s have their niche in wvw and are good there, but Mesmers are simply amazing.

I play both, but unless I am planning on keep defense or choke point tower farming, I struggle to find a reason to log on my Necro. A Necro can do things a Mesmer can’t as some might be quick to point out, but what mesmers can do is simply amazing

I just want to point out that we learned how to fight zergs while in NSP. We were in the red server fighting against the stronger BP/AR zergs. It took numerous wipes but with practice we got better and better at it.

We understand your perspective of being outmanned but take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to fight overwhelming numbers in open field.

BP and AR have swapped colors. According to BP intentionally so… for whatever perceived purpose(s) that serves.

I guess if anything it gives them the Overlook, which I’m sorry is hands down the most practical and defensible fortress in WvW. It’s location is perfect for trebbing just about everything in the north. It’s compact (unlike Stonemist), has very few doors (also unlike SM), and is situated uphill.

Unless there was some secret backdoor deal that went down… anyone suggesting BP intentionally let AR come out ahead is doing AR a grave disservice. AR earned blue on their own merits.

Now with that said, I think Kodiak is secretly on Team Jacob.

/sigh yet another gaming forcing people to pve on order to improve their gear for pvp…

edit which just kitten me off so my mesmer is kinda collectin dust. I leveled him up in march, ran with him in wvw awhile… but most wins in 1v1s didn’t make me feel like “ kitten that was a sweet fight,” all i ever felt was “what a cheap hollow win”

Ah BP player…I can understand your sentiment.

Our roamers tend to help out our zergs when there is a collection of enemies being annoying to the good of our server.

Also ever since that night cap extravaganza y’all pulled to ruin things all those weeks ago we’ve made it our special mission to roflstomp any and all BP w/out any remorse.

There are a variety of ways to respond to that but in the best interest of the OP, while eBay may have once had A solid population of solos/duos/etc actively looking for small
fights or 1v1s. They have either moved on, changed their play style or are not out and about much.

people who run ungrouped engage in combat keeping enemies at bay until more numbers arrive (a legit strat, works well and all don’t get me wrong) is not what the OP is asking about

As a Necro I have to laugh at this thread. Most Conditionmancers soon find that there’s so much condition removal in WvW that they switch to a different build. Now that Epidemic has been LoS nerfed, there’s even less Conditionmancers out there.

The fact is I need the practice on my necro. Getting used to GTing is a pain when I ditched the trap build forever ago on my ranger. So the more fights I get, the better I can get on a new character, and tweak the build.

Funniest moment of my WvW career happened last night. We are roaming with about two full groups. Our scout tells us that BP is coming directly at us and there’s probably 20-25 of them. Our Commander says, no worries, we got this. About three seconds later, our Scout is yelling that the BP guys are running from the EBay zerg that is HUGE. Now, we didn’t see all of the EBay zerg but we could see the BP and the front lines of EBay and what we saw coming directly at us looked like a Tsunami. Immediately everyone is yelling “Port, Port, Port!!!”. That was the most players I’ve seen in one spot.

I have definitely had some moments this week when I am running for my life and take a look to my right/left and see AR folk running right with me trying to avoid the Oy Vey Zerg.

I played condition at release, then switched to power, then along the way rolled a mesmer then have been playing that.

Recently however, I have been hearing a lot of complaints in Teamspeak about “bunker Necro’s”

As for Mag, one of their great strengths is their organization, that didn’t appear suddenly over night once, as you put it, they were full strength. So yes, BP is familiar with Mag and their organization.

You need to re-read one of my earlier posts. One of mags great strengths WAS their organization. They do have a few gems of guilds within them but as a server they are not what they used to be. They are now your typical fairweather zergy server. Believe it or not, but the new fairweather zergy server would destroy their old self simply because of the explosion of numbers.

If Ehmry is not a t4 server, then who would be? Crystal Desert? Had Ehmry and Crystal been in a 1 on 1 fight Ehmry would come out on top. I will use the YB/CD/Ebay matchup a few weeks ago as evidence. For a little over half the week we were beating CD in points. Then for two oceanic periods in a row CD rolled at 600 PPT+. Without Yaks Bend to have to fight with during NA time, our PPT at that time slot would easily overcome CD’s oceanic. So take another look at that list and tell me who else is a t4 server if not Ehmry Bay or Crystal Desert.
