I haven’t experienced problems with ranger mobility, instead I keep on getting “omg you are a speedhacker”-type of whispers quite often. If you learn to use 1h sword’s #2 skill as an escape tool, it will open up a whole new level of mobility.
People are too busy complaining about the stability changes now, LB ranger topics are sooooo yesteryear.
Did someone call for a JDGE?
Jokes aside, I can’t believe how well you can actually survive without a stunbreaker! I’d just stop, drop and die in a heartbeat.
I use it for stomping, avoiding focused fire, repositioning myself or ressing downed friend. I think it’s extremely useful and helps you to learn to be more aware of what’s going on and who you are hitting (Los, aegis, invul etc.).
Because wow is all exiting ???
I can’t really answer to that, never played it! But when you think about all the changes wubwub has gotten over the years, it’s not much and it can get boring pretty fast. JDGE has always been a small scale guild and there was a time when small scale scene was almost dead and I think around that time Osi and some others decided to try something else for a bit. The new wubwub map and the specializations will surely bring many people back, Osi included :>
I love this Frou. You never have a dull video
Thanksu, I appreciate your words!
I have always liked that there so many tricksy things about the ranger class, there is so much more to it than just autoattacking on max range. There are builds that takes long time to master, but once you get there you will be unstoppable. I especially love the overly hated 1h sword that gets me out of trouble bounce after bounce.
The baddies who die and cannot beat rangers are the ones making topics like these, meanwhile the people who can kill these OMG OP PLS NERF-power rangers are happily playing, pewing and looting bags without problems.

Switching chat tabs makes my guild chat text disappear.
Dont mean to be offtopic but whatever happened to Osicat?
He and few others got bored of the stale wubwub and went to play WoW instead. They will be back for the expansion tho :>
You should use Reefdrake under Water, most people won’t attack you with their Melee weapons (lazy Pack) and when you get downed you are pretty much invincible using the drakes f2.
Vid is as enjoyable as always x)
Thanksu, shall give it a go!
I’m still using the same underwater pets, love that shark. I carry a set of armor with speed runes for doing golem rushes, I stuck that on my underwater set instead of the pack runes I normally wear.
I found most people don’t bother speccing for underwater fights and with the rangers downed state we have a huge advantage anyway. Only thing I bothered doing was putting every stacking sigil I use on my underwater weapons
My underwater weapons were somewhere around level 42 until now, oopsie daisy! I don’t think I’d specifically spec for underwater fights, just wondering if anyone bothers adding the 7th rune into their breathingmask thing as it replaces the helmet when you jump in. We have a block in one of our underwater weapons as well, so the 6th bonus from the Defender rune set could actually proc and heal.
I think GW2 needs a new PvP format – naked mud wrestling.
I was testing out Prysin’s mighty Defenders build and I got trapped in the 80s serie, The Love Boat!
No but to be serious, while editing this I realised I never replace the underwater weapons/sigils/runes when switching builds. Do you guys ever bother doing that? I usually escape through water when I’m getting chased around the borderlands but I don’t really stay to fight in there. Also I have been using a shark and one of the jellyfish as underwater pets since launch and I have never paid attention if they are even any good, any suggestions?
I had totally forgotten about this. They asked for people to send them video footage from wubwub but the topic came and went without any real guidelines.
Should be fairly easy outside of prime time and even during prime time you can just try to squeeze in as much mobility as you can get ’n it should go smoothly. Good luck!
You should turn that pig into a baconsandwich for causing such trouble! That will show ’em!
So I currently have the rune in 10/0/30/30/0 apothecary s/t a/d. I’m thinking the build would be better with dire gear since the runes have a high base heal and scales pretty badly with healing power.
approximate heal vs. healing power
~4000 heal (0 healing power)
~4500 heal (1000 healing power)
~5000 heal (2000 healing power)So with dire, I think you’re getting more heals than the average apothecary gear (without the runes), more condition dmg, and a larger health pool.
Something along the lines of: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQRAsX3YjEq0yaNL+rQ1aABhaVA0uGu3Ww9QcDfdJrIK-T1RHABXv/gb6HC4hAwo6P3pEEgzAwRK/IFAErtA-w
That’s pretty clever, may try this out at some point!
lil late people?
posted these as part of my build some 9 days prior to this thread. Y u people notice so late. I mean, i noticed these runes late cuz there was no mention of them in any patch notes, so they seem to have been ninjad in, still, this is getting ridiculous./fmlhipsterrant
Very sorry Hiprysinster, can you link your build/topic mayhaps?
People get really hostile for no reason whatsoever. He said he is a casual player so you can’t expect him to know everything and be pro like the rest of you guys. If you show him the ropes maybe, one day, he will be as amazing as you are.
Either way, if you are having trouble surviving you could start by posting your build and mayhaps we could help you out with tweaking it.
There seems to be a trend with recent weapon related topics: LB is for skilless braindead noobs who can only autoattack at max range and occasionally rapidfire themselves in the face while sword is way too difficult to use and needs to be changed to be more average player-friendly. What gives?
I think you guys are being a bit harsh on him here, do you see other forum specialists making reports in weekly basis? I haven’t spotted a single one yet.
Well hurr, I used the Defender runes for the melee bits in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0BixZcH_II
and this is the build I came up with for it
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAR8YjMq0waLLGsQ1agDhq9J8BjArAw97+C5QJj6A-TVTBABapE5KlHAp+TXKh64gA8++DgcBAwT3AKaYmQJ4CHgAEMBBwTCIAACwN3Z6sNDczbO0bO0kBgZMA-wI did some dueling with it as well and it went pretty nicely, but then again all bunker builds do nicely in 1vs1. I’d be happy to hear what kind of alterations you guys would do to that build.
That’s almost what im using, except im going 6 skirmishing and 2 nature magic. Using Magi weps for more healing power and a bit of vitality and running warhorn offhand to blast healing spring. Signet of the wild over stone for the extra regen tick (and burst for when the time is right) along with mango pies.
I’m afraid I’m forever stuck with the -40 or -36 condi food because of the massive condi spam that is going on. I suppose I could just pop the minus condi food when I face condi users but it gets pretty expensive to spam foods like that. You on the other hand gots a lot more healing going on so I guess that evens it out.
I found the runes do better on builds that doesn’t rely on blocks or have random blocks (ranger gs, guardian, pu mesmer). Coz you have more control over when the heal on the rune procs. The runes are probably best paired with troll unguent coz you’re getting that gradual heal with the burst heal.
Do you have a specific build in mind? I’d like to try this too. I noticed the GS block heal goes to waste time to time as I have to use the block for actual defensive purposes and then the heal procs while I’m already full HP.
Actually what we need right now is a beaver pet to build dams to hold back the QQ river that floats through the forums.

Thanks Gus for dealing with our siege griefer that was following our group around yesterday. It was a most welcome sight to see them dealt with. You rock!!
What did he do with the griefer?
Gus suspended the account. I believe it was for two weeks. They were caught placing irrelevant siege to block placement of legitimate siege. We also saw their placement of 50 or so siege as well as ‘stacking’ interact objects (plates of food, for example).
If they violate again the accounts held by them will be terminated.
If there’s a siege griefer, are we supposed to report them via ticket, report as a “bot” through report system or PM you/someone else in game?
Moose or squirrel. I’d settle down for a moosquirrel too.
In high level 5v5 premades i’m sure there is some sort of “balance” but for random search games rangers seems to be unstoppable if they know what they’re doing.
I believe that’s the case with every class really, not just rangers.
It’s nice to read about someone’s journey through ups and downs and I’m happy you didn’t give up on your ranger.
I’d have to look at it, but what I remember was Peters went from stating it was fine and working as intended to “I’ll look into it” and finally “passing it on” after trying to mess with it himself and then there has been no word about it.
I can only guess that it take a bit of coaxing to get him to look/post on the ranger forums after the excitement of jellyfish color/skin change and the “big changes” aquaman patch (which demands a do over as they have given up on underwater combat)
But they fixed Hawk and Eagle icons back then too, we don’t need any more fixes because that was all we ever needed!
I have been toying around with defender runes and it has been good fun. I struggle a bit with the Healing Spring because I have been using nothing but Troll Unguent for 2 years. It may sound odd but I’m so used to popping the heal really early on and now that I can heal up fast with sword & GS leaps the full heal tends to go to waste. On top of that my playstyle involves lots of bouncing and kiting, staying in one spot to heal feels blasphemous!
One of the best small scale skirmish hot spots is the north camp in BLs. Just keep on eye on the portal and run away if the motherblob arrives :>
Will it be possible to block someone in the forums at some point, i.e have someone blocked in game and have it get carried over here?
When the stability changes kicks in there will be even more of these topics popping out.
Just keep in mind that the stability change is not the only thing coming for wubwub:
At Rezzed, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be presenting a panel on Saturday, March 14, 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time (15:00 UTC) that will walk through the core features of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and exclusively reveal the future of World vs. World, including an in-depth, never-before-seen tour of the new desert Borderlands map. This panel will be streamed live on Twitch.
I’m using Playclaw for recording and Sony Vegas for editing, quality is pretty good and both programs are fairly easy to use. As for tips, make sure that your settings are matching and correct in both your recording and editing programs, no one enjoyes watching pixelated blurry videos (i.e missmatched reso and so on). You can make small test renders to check if the quality is good rather than making a full video and then noticing that something is not right.
Atherakhia, i saw the jumping entangle animation 4 times, so no walking into roots and Frou, he cannot use racial skills in spvp.
Ah, I don’t play spvp so didn’t know that, you learn something new every day! What about rune of the Grove? Is that also disabled in spvp?
Man, I envy you. I have lactose intolerance and I can’t eat cheese that much.
Doesn’t sylvari have similar root racial skill, Grasping Vines? Maybe he used both.
If Piken was in Facebook, it would have it’s relationship status with wubwub marked as “It’s complicated”. No but to be serious it’s good fun, balanced between the PPT and openfield fights.
Can anyone remember when the extra storage/inventory slots were for sale last time? I have been waiting for a long time :< Ended up buying a second account for my hoarding needs because it was cheaper than buying a storage tab!
Rapid fire shouldnt hit through stealth. its a load of bull. Also, no you can’t always dodge it. A smart ranger will always use rapid fire after a dodge roll so you can’t dodge the whole thing. Signet of stone is just kittened.
Blasphemy! You are a godlike mesmer, you shouldn’t have any problems with puny mortal rangers.
Hi5 for being so very positive about such a thankless job! You could try joining your server’s community guild (If there is one), they usually gather funds and siege for the scouts. Piken even has a scout of the week award for showing appreciation and respect towards our scouts, and a little kaching prize ofc :>
Good luck with your adventures through the toxic land that is the wubwub sub forum Marmatt! I for one will cheer for you and send positive vibes on your way as this is perhaps the nastiest and most thankless job you could have picked. Kudos for picking unbalanced matchups as your first report too since it truly does affect every single one of us here.
I think it works just fine, the has to hit-part makes it a bit more tricksy but at the same time it forces you to be more aware of what you are doing and who you are hitting (line of sight, blind, does the target have aegis? Is he dodging?) thus hopefully making you a better player and stops you from spamming skills on cooldown.
I use Playclaw to record, tis smooth ‘n you barely notice it running. Dxtory isn’t bad either.
I asked about why he described guild teams and the new PvP game type and why he didn’t say the words ‘GvG’? He replied with multiple points. He said the GvG community is actually two groups that do not understand each other very well. One is the GW1 GvG and the other is the modern WvW style GvG. The modern WvW style GvG is something that could be a gametype of its own (sounded like he thinks it should but…). However, ANet doesn’t currently have enough resources for the three gametypes it currently has. The PvE, PvP, and WvW teams just don’t have as much resources as they really want to make them into the ideal version that they are dreaming of (in the time they want it in). They do not want to pull people off the 3 core features to create a 4th which would cause neglect for all 4 core features. As to whether or not the new PvP game type is going to be like the classic 8v8 GvG… they are not decided. They have play tested everything from 5v5 to 10v10. Nothing is set in stone yet for how the standardized setup will be, and likely will not be decided until enough beta testers comment on it. (HoT beta testing coming, no word on invites)

If you combine the two longbows into a single greatbow, you should be able to shoot bears.
Think about it:
- OMG RUN IT’S A BEARBOW!
- wut? lol dude, bearbows aren’tAAAAAIIIIIIEEEE!!!!
This could actually be a legit idea for a legendary! Who wants pansy ponies when you can have bears mauling peoples faces!
Think outside of the box, you don’t have to fit into the meta. Everyone should just run the class and the build they are most comfortable with, but still try to keep the group synergy in mind. My group is built to be mobile, hit and run style, so taking classes that are slow or have no escapes is a no go (or they will just get sacrificed for the greater good). Build your group setup smartly and plan ahead.
Knowing when to engage and when to run away is important, but the ress managment and stomp duty are key things in succesful roaming as well. Also calling certain skills out in TS such as knockbacks, immob, downstates, who is going for a stomp and so on helps a lot. Try recording your fights, it’s easier to spot what you need to improve that way too.
It also helps if your teammates roam solo time to time (you could even try dueling each other in spvp), this way they can learn to balance out their own builds, find the weaknessess, balance their stats, which skills/traits works best for them. By doing this they will learn to be more aware of their surroundings and they will be less likely end up doing stupid things.
And without siege decay trolls can completely shut down the ability to place siege and not a single thing can be done about it.
It doesn’t even have to be a troll, just a clueless player with no knowledge of proper siege placement could screw things up.
I salute you because you actually want to learn to use the sword rather than making a whiny topic how stupid it is and how it should be changed. I truly hope you master the art that is the bouncy madness of 1 handed sword.
The Oakhearts are perhaps most irritating creatures. Despite their massive size they are ninjas, always creeping in and BAM! Knocks you over and roots you down when you least expect it and when you really don’t need their earthly loving.
