These companies have to think many years ahead of time. There is really no doubt that a good portion of their team is working on GW3 or another franchise now that GW2 is released, and that only fraction of their full team is working on the GW2 expansion. This is the only explanation why successful items like SAB are dropped.
Major speculation. Companies think ahead, yes, but they do not factor entire new games into that equation until they’ve either reached a time period of when that is actually appropriate. Or software development tools have reached a point where they NEED the benefit of those new tools that require new game development from scratch AND sufficient time has passed in which the studio has cultivated the fruits of their labor over the previous product’s lifetime. For a largely successful game like GW2 that’s only 3years old, GW3 is not happening anytime soon.
So what is the point of this thread? bashing ESO? Eso done a lot of things right and wrong just like GW2, no point in bashing it. I think ESO is a decent game and a good alternative for GW2, so I play them both.
Things ESO done better than GW2::
*looting
*Skill system
*mount
*questing
*dungeon
Things GW2 done better than ESO
*pvp
*exploration
*combat
*graphic
No game is better than another, stop making thread like this.
-ESO’s looting system is terrible, period. Not even gonna bother arguing this.
-Skill system? So vague.
-GW2 doesn’t really “need” mounts, but it’d be awesome nonetheless.
-Questing is, in many respects to typical Elder Scrolls games, are outright terrible too. “Questing”(hearts and events) in GW2 are far more compelling for players.
- Dungeons? Haven’t tried ’em, but if they contain the same terrible loot competition scheme going on, its not gonna be something most people want to be apart of.
Eso is still new mmo compare with Guild Wars 2: 3 years
Next time before attack new game: do research first. Also, by the time Eso is 3 years: you will see huge diference.
Being a new game(or new studio), is no get free pass(excuse) for terrible mechanics, experiences, etc. GW2 was an amazing game from its release and still is, 3 years later, today. While ESO still has the same dealbreaking problems since it was released, that should have been priority number one, even over new content.
Also: do you know Final Fantasy 14 have more players than Guild Wars 2? How old is Final Fantasy 14 compare to Guild Wars 2?
Its amazing what Halo-level popularity can do. /s
But seriously what would anyone expect? Its Final Fantasy. We all know that IP name holds as much weight as the literal term itself.
The lesson is: it is not about compare who is that and what is this to that? it is about having a vision for challenge and fun for your game include your players.
So we can’t criticize, when it’s needed?(Which is all the time.)
Square Enix know that: that is why they redo Final Fantasy 14 because they now know how important player value challenge and fun. Including working with their player to find solution to problems and to give their players fun and good challenge things.
Square Enix took MAJOR heat in FFXIV’s original release. They, iirc, FIRED the original game director, and placed a new one. Now this director basically took a huge gamble and had the game almost rewritten from scratch. The ‘heat’ the first game took was molded ad reforged into the glorious miracle that became ARR:FFXIV.
More evidence: how long did it take for Square Enix to make stealth (Ninja Prof.) challenge and fun in their game and for their players compare to Arena net Guild Wars 2 Thief Prof. stealth who offer No challenge, and offer no fun. I will not even talk about Final Fantasy pvp vs Guild Wars 2 pvp.
Define stealth. Because clearly these two games have different definitions in both design, art style, and pure combat mechanics.
Square Enix is still learning to work with their players to make game fun and challenge: they are not perfect but trying hard
So Anet doesn’t listen to its players?
Eso will soon be like Square Enix because Zenimax Online Studios is learning from mistake and improve from bad experience. Again, give ESO 3 years and see challenge and fun how Zenimax Online Studios will make it be
Part of what made FF:XIV’s success story was the sheer amount of resources and talent SE has at their fingertips. This is NOT something you just ‘do’. We should simply be thankful games like GW2, ESO, and FFXIV even exist, let alone what can be done to improve these games vs development time, bug patching, art team development, etc.

The only weapons I see being added to(or would like to care for that matter) are spears for land use and two-handed battleaxes. Everything else is just ‘diversity" for the sack of diversity when its not really needed, in my opinion. I’ll take ‘new skills’ over ‘new weapons’ any day.
Anet’s the driver of this bus, and they are at the end of the day, the best person to answer these questions. That’s not to say they won’t acknowledge suggestions, opinions, and other against-the-status-quo ideas.

You may not want it, but I feel torch fits with the class wayyy too well and that it will probably be the new weapon. Not only that, but giving the torch to the very popular warrior might help people’s perspective on it. Torch isn’t that bad. Really lol. Especially in pvp.
My bets:
Warrior- Torch
Revenant: Pistol [Rytlock]
Thief- Rifle
Ele – either bow
Guardian- Warhorn or Axe

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Specialization
A lot of ‘nopes’ there, in all likelihood, and based off speculative evidence. Also they make sense: ie Guards and Thieves lack long range weaponry.
Rytlock’s pistol use is/was pre-HoT. Nor does that hold any actual bearing on the profession itself. We did not see Rytlock use a hammer, no?

So I’m not alone.
Happening again right now.
It was a limited time ‘sneak peek’ at things to come.
‘Breaking news! We’re releasing future items early for one day only! Through Friday, check the Gem Store each day this week for an exciting limited-time item! And don’t forget, our Lunar New Year items will only be on sale for a little while longer!’
So the wings (and anything else that comes up this week) will be back again.

I tend to think that deep down, people procrastinate for the purpose of procrastinating. Otherwise, they would’ve known or discovered this tid-bit of info in no time at all.
Galina Edgecrusher. That is all.

I’ll just leave this here.

Hmm, i like that outcome also. However, its a bit farfetched even now. Beyond consuming magic, destroying life, then going back to sleep, we don’t know much about them at all. Let alone their motivations.

This isn’t problem; its collection of subjective and minor grievances. Opinionated at that.
And to be fair, Anet is still working on the whole first player experience any way.
For example, if you’re gonna have a scythe, there better be at least 2 classes that can make use of them aside from the necromancer(yes the rifle and longbow are currently exceptions to the rule(and they shouldn’t be)) and they need to aesthetically make sense. Whip/chain sickles, claws, and polearms , imho, would look ridiculous, then again thats up to Anet to pull off, not my mind. It’s just something I’d much rather see an NPC using than a player.
Longbows, shortbows, rifles, maces, and hammers are all currently only in use by two professions each. That’s being expanded, obviously, but two does seem to be the limit for a weapon to be justified.
I also don’t see why polearms would be ridiculous, and a genuine polearm weapon is one that could be employed by a number of professions (particularly if there’s something scythelike among them). However, thief wouldn’t be my first choice (or any higher than fifth at most) to get a polearm.
Its to my understanding polearms are more like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_weapon
A role I think a ‘spear’ would be more suited for. Technically the game’s underwater ‘harpoon’(they should just call it a spear) as it kinda fits this category and name, for all intents and purposes. They should repurpose the weapon as a ‘spear’ for land combat if new weapon classes are still on the table.
Jesus, we don’t need new weapons. That just adds more work and awards little, like the whole new race thing. We need more weapon versatility and usage amongst classes. Hence, specializations. Its the reason why many GW1 die-hards refuse to continue GW2 but have taken interest in HoT as of late. They love horizontal progression.
IMO, that only new weapons that sound like they’d make sense would be a two-handed battleaxe and maybe a scythe(its better off as a staff skin which we have very little of).On topic: The thief could definitely use some new class specialization. It’s got too much focus on single target damage when its not needed or desired. A sniper class could work but it would need alot of work and thought on the devs part. The ‘thought’ part I don’t envy.
Why do I have the freaking feeling, that you have most likely understood only half of what I’ve written oO
Adding more useable weapons AUTOMATICALLY means more build versatility together with Specializations. Thieves should wield Great Axes and Scythes.?. ROFL.
Not to forget, there exist already Staff-Scythe Skins …Adding more usable weapons to all classes is exactly horizontal progression.
Please don’t add words and ideas to a statement where they don’t exist. Particularly thieves with scythes.
No thief specializations? That’s just… unwise, no matter how you look at it.
As for new weapons, we wont see them unless they benefit more than one class, conceivably speaking. What you’re suggesting, is, ideologically speaking, make sense for a mere one or two classes a time. Hence, specializations, again, and not new weapons. Also, if we’re gonna have weapons that are specific to a given class, they all have to be available for their given class and their specific classes alone.
You got me on the battleaxe though. I would certainly pay money for that, without a doubt.
Realistically, devs will simply reuse content available(weapons) and create new horizontal gameplay(specializations) from that and cut down on development time and resources. Time is money and they probably have to think in reality’s terms quite often then they’d find comfortable.

MetaBattle is one: http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
And another one I can’t find in my bookmarks.
The only weapons, which thieves should receive through specializatino,s be it old or new weapons should be
- Longbow
- Staff
- Torch(es)
- Offhand Sword
- Whip/Chain Sickles
- Crossbow(s)
- Maces
- Axes
- Claws
But absolutely NO
- Greatsword
- Rifle
- Polearm/Scythe
- Shield
- Warhorn
- Scepter
- Focus
- Great Axes
Thats what I think Thieves should and should not receive with upcoming Specializations.
The First Thing that I’d love to see the most, would be martial artistical Brawlers, that get to use Staffs together with that Ape King Staff finding the way into the game.

I have no idea, whether or not this will happen: Will Anet add or potentially award a free character slot for players in the light of the new Revanant class.
I’m already prepared to throw down money honestly, but I figured I’d ask the question anyway since I haven’t seen it brought up.
1. Personal story arcs in powers of 10 now. so every 10 levels, you’re doing the story, so no more missions every 1-3 levels any more. Also, the skill tab is limited at the beginning levels IF you roll an alt created before the update that made the change.
2. Professions are same o’ same o’ for the most part but there have been many various tweaks for all classes since 8 months ago nonetheless. The new expansion pack(Heart of Thorns) will be introducing a new heavy armor class.
3. There a was server merge of sorts, called the mega server now. Servers only purpose these days now is WvW. Aside from that, you’ll meet everyone.
(edited by Geneaux.9547)
And today I learned that players don’t want to work towards anything and have everything handed to them on silver platter, grind or no grind.
Skyrim has this “issue” too. Is their some weird complicated issue in adding additional meshes and textures for helmets and hats, regardless of a given character’s hairstyle?
The amount of QQing here in opposition to mounts is appalling.
The amount of QQing about those against mounts is appalling.
Indeed.
The amount of QQing here in opposition to mounts is appalling.
Really? Necro? This day and age? Read the thread dates before you post people.
It appears this is not an isolated issue after all. I’m not sure if this is brought up to devs before or if it has already been acknowledged yet.
