Wearing pink armor isnt going to make any one better.
I go and sit in a fort with guards and watch TV or do chores around the house.
Then when the gaurds yell “were under attack:” or something similar I help them with the event. I kill a ton of mobs with aoe and get lots of items.
1 This is totally legit (forts with guards are meant to be safe places to rest and youre supposed to help defend them when they are attacked.)
2 Its better than walking around killing stuff and doing random events like I used to do because I never get DR. Its definitely more efficient and it may even be more productive.
Honestly Its not the most fun way to play but its definitely less frustrating than item DR.
If you simply want Karma though your better off running a circuit of events.
Please share your tactics.

Can someone clarify EXACTLY what the problem is? I just see people saying they get DR and how they hate it. Yet didn’t Anet say it was implemented to stop players from abusing game mechanics? I guess I just have yet to see anyone clarify exactly what they are dong to get DRs. I’ve yet to see DRs once and I’ve been playing since early access. If the system is to stop abusing game mechanics, then why is this so bad? From a rationale standpoint I just do not understand the outcry.
If someone could clarify what exactly they are doing when they get DRs it would be greatly appreciated.
Here is exactly what i do to get item DR. I kill 50-100 mobs in Cursed Shore
Its the only level 80 zone in the game so i play there since Im 80. You can easily have well over 50s kill just running 2 events.
This is not some sort of secret – its what happens to any competent player who decides to do some PVE at level 80.
MF Panda at least can see the obvious.
GW2 is not supposed to just be GW1 with a bigger map and new graphic.
Its supposed to offer what GW1 did and MORE
The devs have said this too.
Simply mentioning that GW1 was quick to max gear is not some sort of proof that you are intended to have max gear with a a week of hitting 80.
I dont believe you have played the game much then.
Its quite easy to hit the loot drop off in Orr if you kill stuff fast or if you use aoe in events.
I think rather than telling us that we are “doing it wrong.” you should play the game more and learn.
By the way, “have all the best stuff 8 weeks into the game”? Have you seen the amount of materials legendaries need? If not, please go ahead, then come again.
Legendaries are exceedingly hard to get.
But also..
Legendaries are no better than exotics.
Of the people I play with and talk too about the game not one has told me they intent to own a legendary. And most of them have told me that they dont intend to progress past exotics.
Im happy legendaries are there for people who want to grind cosmetic items but its a minority of players.
My loading times increased this last week – I have no idea why.
DR is here because most people decided that exotics were going to be their personal end game(legendaries are only cosmetically better) they are as and exotics have been surprisingly easy to obtain this last couple of weeks.
I have never played an MMO where it was as easy to be completely outfitted in max gear as GW2 as it was in GW2 ht last few weeks..
The devs had to do something because its no good if everyone has all the best stuff 8 weeks into the game. Too many people would feel like they had “won” the game and move on.
You will hit item DR just by running 2 different events and then soloing random mobs.
This game has been conceptually broken by desperate attempts to slow down the pace of exotic acquiring.
What the original post states is actually false.
The only pure level 80 area in the has only one type of mob.
You will hit DR just walking round soloing mobs in the only level appropriate content at level 80.
The point here is not to insult the devs.
This is just to point out that the current solution is unfair to players who either already own MF gear or who may buy some.
All exotic gear and PVPIng.
Its not hard to get there.
I get that magic find as it was implemented was a disaster. People were pulling seemingly non-stop yellows and many oranges when they stack MF.
Hardcore will always stack it and find a way to pull crazy amounts of good loot – this happens in every game that try a MF attribute. But if you nerf the base quality rate you hurt casual players.
But its unfair to nerf a class of items that people already own leaving the stats spot taken by a non functioning(or essentially non-functioning) attribute.
More fair solutions that I suggest are to either convert the MF prefix into something else on existing items or return it to its former functionality but but a cap on MF and explain to players how the cap works.
Underwater combat is a buggy joke.
The constant invulnerability issues make it a total waste of time.
As to the value of the armor itself.
Exotic armor is exotic armor, its all the same for any given prefix and its the best armor available in game.
Beserkers seems to be the most popular but is by no means the consensus best prefix.
Also IMO Draconic is ugly as sin. After I bought mine I used transmutation stones on much of it.
Nothing is preventing people from trading. They could still buy and sell stuff on the auction house, but they wouldn’t be able to mail loaned money or items to other people to prevent abuse. I suppose an exception could be crafting. They could buy materials off the auction house to level up a craft, and they would be allowed to sell these items on the auction house.

If you can trade on the market you can transfer money. (if you cant figure this out you should be ashamed to even post here.)
This is a rather common way to launder money in game in fact.
It may or may not work on mobs – but if it does work the effect is NOT pronounced.
I did the Cursed grind for a week wearing 80% magic find. I earned enough for an Exotic outfit.
Then wearing my new armor this weekend with only 3% magic find I can not tell a difference even though im doing the same grind difference.
Both ways I get lots of whites and blues ad a good number of greens with an occasional yellow.
Sometimes I get a good event where I pull 2 or 3 yellows, sometimes I get a bad event where I pull nothing higher than blue – this happens both with and with out MF on.
Prices dropped for a simple reason – they were to high give the rate of demand vrs supply.
More and more people are learning how to farm stuff – these same people need less and less of the stuff they are farming.
It has more to do with improved farming than with decreased need though.
Making money through trading is rapidly becoming harder and harder. This is because most of the easy money people were making was due ignorance of the average market user.
The buy/sell margins on almost every semi popular item have dropped to 155 or less.
If you want to make money now you either have to speculate on future items or learn to play the hour and week cycles.
This isnt EVE with huge complex production chains. Values of items are mostly obvious in GW2.
But what you arent understanding is that people also push markets the other way. In a market where supply and demand were more closely aligned the 2 attempts at manipulation balance each other other out and are actually forcing an accurate market.
In short – the market responds to supply and demand over time(attempts at manipulation really just accelerate this) – and you dont understand.
everything is rapidly moving to "no profit’(as it should)
The market is is still developing so there are still inefficiencies popping up but they are rapidly disappearing.
If supply was not out pacing demand then the low ball bait items would be bought by end users faster than the sellers could respond to them – at least half the time.
This sort of market push only works when the demand is low and the supply is high.
Finess is right.
Grimrah is wrong.
Even if you buy the stuff with 2 different characters you cant pick it up with the 2 separate characters.
Organizing a voluntary price fixing cartel in a video game always works. So… ummmm… ya…. good luck with that.
I think you mean a “fiance” or “trader” nerd.
I know nothing about economies but Im angry because supply is out pacing demand.
I fixed that for you.
I suspect some of the issue here is due to the lack of liquidity in the market.

Seriously stop talking.
Whats going on can be summed up in the most simple of economic explanations.
Much higher supply than demand.
And thats fine. Greens exists primarily so players can occasionally find a good not great item while they are playing.
Now if your point was the rather simple one that the devs need to fiddle with the drop rate of rares you at least would be making a sensible point.
But to be honest with the existence of ’magic find" items thats hardly reasonable.
Powerful AOE has been horribad game design for the last 15 years – and devs still love it.
There is no good fix – because powerful aoe deals so much damage so fast that single target toons cant even get targeted and or in position before the mobs are dead or almost dead.

Arena Soft has to pay the VAT to the British government I think. There no American VAT.
I don't want to sit and farm Penitent/Shelter's/Jofast's camp all day, but I sure feel compelled to

If they “fix” anything Im sure they will simply nerf the value of events as opposed to buffing anything else.
And then the game will be worse instead of better.
If armor canisters are just a slightly better deal that the NPC then that means the market is working just as you would hope a healthy market would work.
Because casual players love getting drops. Its like playing the lotto everytime they see green.
When I was leveling up I enjoyed drops and wasnt interested in the market.
Not everyone sees the game like you – in fact most people dont.
The 15% ‘tax’ is a good thing.
The market interface that doesnt show the tax is incredibly stupid.
Most of the one copper oders are a result the bad interface.
After you enter an order it drops back to one copper and its easy to hit enter again.
I have done it a few times and didnt notice till when i was done and checked my whole order list.
Almost all the avatars you see in Orr are human gamers not bots.
This is happening because its so freaken hard to earn money in the game.
Ruin the game for 90% of the players so the 5 or 10% of maket enthusiasts can be happy.
GOOD IDEA!!!
I too come from EVE.
I love EVE
GW2 os not EVE and should not be anything like it.
Trading in EVE is fun – for some people(I manage to use it to not have to pay a sub.) But its puts casual p;layers at a big disadvanatge. This is a game for casual players often esperienced players who dont have the time to be hardcore anymore. It would be bad to put them at a disadvantage. even a perceived one.
The main market trend is
buy orders approach 85% of sell orders
Going back to the old system where just tagging is all that matters would be even worse.
The main problem is that certain AOE classes can put down tremendous damage in a controled PVE situation while others cant.
EVE is a great game.(I have a current sub and have for years and years).
EVE has never had more than around 400K subscribers. It never will.
This game is fun because its NOT like EVE.
My casual gamer friends hate EVE. They love this game.
This would be great, but is not a simple change. It would require significant work and Arena Net has more pressing and easier to implement stuff to worry about first.
Im not being mean here – but what you said does not make sense.
How does the existence of a a market make it worse for you to salvage the materials? It doesnt.
It does give you a more profitable option but you are no worse off salvaging when a market exists than you are salvaging when a market doesnt exist.
STOP BLAMING THE EXISTENCE OF A MARKET FOR SUPPLY/DEMAND RATIOS THAT YOU DONT LIKE.
1 Let us sort armor by heavy, light, and medium.
2 Show the posting cost and tax calculations when you are ready to post an item.
These are obvious user friendly ideas . They both would improve the average players enjoyment of the market and promote market use.
Actually its a bargain.
Most people can earn $5 IRL much faster than they can earn 1 gold in game.
I have a level 80 wearing 50% magic find and focusing completely on making gold(by playing not trading) I doubt I make more than a gold an hour. people who are leveling up make gold MUCH slower than that.
I was disturbed to see someone suggest adulterating a BLT with cheese.
But I was appalled to see the peanut butter suggestion.
You people must be the guys who order pizza with hamburger on it.
Your problem is that you are considering grinding and meta game knowledge to be accomplishment – when the target gamer is considering those elements to be the bane of gaming.
Its a matter of perspective and GW2 is primarily aimed at the casual perspective for PVE.
I think the legendary system is hoped to some what fulfill your desires but its obviously not the priority now.
If you are going to speak about the game economy and use normal economic terms then learn what they mean.
In economic terms currency(gold) does not deflate or inflate – rather the rest of the economy does with respect to currency.
