The Black Powder change is completely uncalled for. I’ve fought plenty of D/P thieves and never felt like the blinds from BP were unfair… If I don’t want to be blinded, I don’t stand in a blind field (duh)… Why make a change that allows people to just ignore black powder and still land powerful attacks (sometimes)? It’s going to be ridiculously unreliable. With this change it will be EASY to run directly through the center of the field without getting blinded.

The black powder double-nerf is ridiculous. What’s the point of spending 6 initiative on it when a warrior can run directly through it and still land an eviscerate on me? Now it’s going to feel completely unreliable. I’d honestly rather they reduce its duration to 3 seconds than allow people who faceroll to just ignore it.

Not just legendary weapons, ascended weapons need sigil swapping too (and rune swapping for ascended armor). An as ascended weapon costs way more than almost any sigil in the game, but if I want a weapon with thew same stats but different sigils I need to craft a second weapon? If we could just unlock multiple sigils for an weapon by applying multiple sigils to a single item that would be perfect,

This is a map where an engineer can stealth while standing behind a wall so you don’t even know they’re coming, run out and stand on the panel to preemptively trigger it, activate their unblockable Magnet (with no tell from stealth) to pull a player onto said panel, instantly immobolize the already CCed player with net shot from rifle, and then laugh as they capture the point with no effort on their part. So yeah, fun map.

I’d maybe try something like this. (assuming you don’t want to change the traits)

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQRAoa8Yl0Mp8plOx7J8PNRSRw9SQi3317ddC-T1CFwAIOCAl0JoUpBgHCwVlgIVmJ4EAgSdlMaDqt/gKVKCAgAwO35O35P/ZZA0XAA-w

Long Reach is a fun trait, however you definitely need the fury from Thrill of the Crime. Thrill of the Crime can also give the boons to your allies which is nice.

Also, since you don’t trait into the power/precision lines you need a more offensive runes/gear to make up for the lack of damage. I would recommend runes of the pack or runes of the centaur. The first gives power, precision, fury, swiftness, etc. while the latter will at least give a decent amount of power while also giving you perma-swiftness. Scholar runes/strength runes would also be good for damage, however they only give you higher damage.

Also, I personally like to mix zerker with some PTV to get more or less decent survivability stats. However, as a glassy thief I don’t go crazy with the PTV. Also put some valkryie in the armor.

Perplexity Runes

in WvW

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

TL/DR: Perplexity runes shouldn’t have the longest duration confusion in the game…

I think the idea of Perplexity runes was actually to give classes other than Engi and Mesmer (and at some extend warriors) a source of confusion to compete with them. The problem is that these two classes can get even more benefit from them than the other classes.

Exactly, making runes a viable source of conditions for a class/build that otherwise has few (cough Guardians cough) is a terribad idea. It only benefits condi builds.

Still, I think perplexity could be somewhat balanced. The main problem with Perplexity runes is that the confusion lasts fooooorrreeevvverrr. Seriously. The 5 stacks on interrupt lasts 8 seconds base. It’s completely trivial to increase that duration by 70% (Perplexity runes and +40% food alone will do that) in WvW. If your condi-clear is on cool down and you get 13-16 seconds of 5x confusion on you, you’re as good as dead. Since it’s builds that spam conditions who use Perplexity it’s not even that difficult to force a lot of players to use up their condi-clear.

If that duration was decreased to 5 seconds (which is the max confusion duration most [if not all] skills/traits have) and the 40% food nerfed to be more in line with other food, then maybe Perplexity runes would be fair(-ish). Waiting for the confusion stacks to run out needs to be viable.

Mai Trin now impossible :\

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

Frankly, given the rewards and the difficulty of the other boss fractals, they over buffed this fight. If they want it to be this difficult, fine, but it should be like this in above level 50 with better rewards. It’s stupid that if you get the molten alliances bosses or maw you’ll be done in around 10 minutes with few issues, but if you get Mai Trin at the same difficulty it can take forever for the exact same reward. I just want some consistency, and I want to feel like the more challenging fight is actually worth my time in terms of rewards. Today, I did the new Mai Trin for the first time and it took my pug group 2 hours total for the entire run. For my efforts I got several gold (including items dropped) and no fractal skin/ascended item. Felt like a complete waste of time when I could get the same reward from a dungeon in under 30 minutes with less pain…

Frac 50 Post Patch Mai Trin Warrior Solo

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

I’m not sure why so many people are under the impression that warrior is the best for this boss solo. If I had more AR on my ele I’d be DYING to try this with D/F on level 50. ALL DEM PROJECTILE BLOCKS <3

Not to mention that hella nice cleave range with air auto.

Pretty much the only part that I’m sure would p*ss me off would be the cannon phase, seeing as you have to move like a freaking cheetah when solo to outrun those AoEs.

Good luck with that (seriously). Warrior’s blocks are on WAAAY lower cool downs than any thing an ele has. Magnetic Wave has a 25s cd, and because it’s a reflect it will teleport you directly onto the boss where she will kill you with melee if you don’t use a precious dodge. Swirling Winds has a 30s cooldown.

Warrior mace/sword blocks have a 10s and 15s cooldown respectively. Warrior Also has around 8k more health, more toughness, and healing signet so they can actually take some hits. Your ele will get 1 or 2 hit by any attack Mai has.

Could this be done on an ele? Possibly, but Warrior is obviously better for this fight.

I’ve said 3-4 things over the course of several minutes in /s chat (not even /m where spam might be a bigger concern…) and have found myself silenced for what feels like an eternity. It makes trying to coordinate with pugs in the Crown Pavilion rather frustrating since communication is a necessity to get gold. :/

Saying the same thing (such as telling people to “hold [dps]” in the pavilion) even a few times seems to get you silenced, meanwhile the “people” the filter is meant for easily find ways around it. When a spam filter hurts regular players more than those it’s meant to protect them from, you know you have a problem.

Sick of condi builds when roaming

in WvW

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

Condition builds really get an insane advantage over power builds in WvW:
-They get to wear more defensive gear without sacrificing their damage (Dire/Rabid)
-Condition damage completely ignores armor.
-Their conditions ignore invulnerability once applied.
-Buffing condition duration buffs both damage and crowd control (chilled, crippled, etc) and ability to reduce healing (poison).
—They get ridiculous 40% duration food (equivalent to 8 trait points). That is an insane buff and power builds have no equivalent (they’re food buffs are only equivalent to 2 trait points).
-Condition damage can ignore both weakness and protection (while not benefiting from vulnerability stacks, however)
-Crit Damage was recently nerfed in PvE/WvW so they even deal more damage now relative to power/crit builds.
-They don’t have to constantly attack to still be dealing damage.

Some of these advantages are fine, since condition builds should be unique from power builds, but it’s definitely a little unbalanced right now. Frankly, I think the 40% condition duration food needs to be reduced to 10%. Think about it, a 40% duration buff to ALL conditions is crazy over powered. If people want higher condition duration food, Anet should just add higher duration food that only buffs specific conditions such as burning, bleeding, fear, etc, perhaps by 20-25%.

i played around with the build editor, so yeh, is this modified build suitable for wvw and pve?

This one is better since you’re original had way to little power and condi removal.

My recommendations/personal preferences:

-Smite condition > Mericful Intervention: Will give you a lot more access to fury, healing, condo removal, etc.
-Meditiation Mastery > Retributive Armor: More access to fury, healing, etc.
-Shelter > Signet of Resolve: Shelter will almost never be interrupted and can help prevent TONs of damage. It can stop an entire zerg from killing you in some situations.
-Focus > Torch: The blind and block on it can be quite beneficial, and in WvW where fights aren’t always in your favor it doesn’t hurt to have a weapon with some defensive skills. Plus focus #5 can still be used in a burst when timed correctly.
-Blind Exposure/Searing Flames/Signet Mastery > Inner Fire: All of these will do something reliably in every fight where Inner Fire might not. Searing flames though won’t always strip a particularly useful boon, and signet mastery of course is only useful if you decide to use signet of resolve over shelter.
-Inspired Virtue > Pure of Heart: I’d recommend taking 1 point out of Honor and putting it into Virtues for the awesome minor trait. As it is your access to aegis is pretty limited so I think the boons from inspired virtue would be more helpful.

For PvE I’d recommend 100% Berserker gear, however this build would still do fine imo. For dungeons I’d recommend shouts/consecrations over mediations so you can support your group.

Whatever you end up running with, have fun.

There is a Consortium Vendor in Southsun Cove that gives Sclerite Weapon Skins for the claim tickets, so it sounds like that will still be an option, but (knowing that the occasional oversight is possible) I just want to be sure.

What makes this event ridiculous to coordinate without a guild group voice communication, and\or 6 dedicated commanders is that the event UI is compeltely worthless. You can only see the health and number of players fighting for a single boss at a time, which means map chat is the only way to communicate this information. Anet shouldn’t bother putting events in the open world that require coordination if they’re not going to even try to include a UI that provides random players the information they need to coordinate.

in WvW

Gilburt.9146

No. Armor repair is a bad enough idea as it is. Being downed 2-3 times within 30-60 seconds should be full-death and reviving a player from full-death should be removed from WvW so death is actually meaningful. Charging players money for dying is a lame and lazy idea. Actual mechanics that effect gameplay should be implemented to make death a punishment for both the player and the team, not more money sinks. This game has plenty as it is.

Remove ability to res finished players.

in WvW

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

I absolutely agree. I think being able to res players from full death in WvW should be totally removed. It makes death meaningless when someone you just killed is resed by 5 people in 5 seconds.

Requiring players to be out of combat to revive from full death would be an alright fix (at least resing would be impossible within AC range), but removing hard resing completely would be preferred in my opinion. I don’t think enemies should be allowed to res just because you can’t pressure them 100% of the time. That is an unrealistic expectation. If your keep is being attacked by a superior force and you push out and get 5 kills, that should mean something. They shouldn’t just be insta-revived as soon as you have to retreat.

But something needs to be done. It’s often impossible to win outnumbered fights just because some players will quickly res the dead while the rest keep you and your allies occupied. I go through extraordinary lengths not to die, meanwhile other people who play badly (and frankly have earned their demise) don’t get punished for it at all just because they have 50 allies to instantly res them. It just takes away a lot from combat when death is so meaningless.

Remember ride the lightning for Eles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Gilburt.9146

Ride the lightning was OP because it was unaffected by conditions, really long range, low cool down and a knockdown. Name a warrior skill that does all that then I will agree it should be nerfed. Don’t forget now it halves the cool down when it hits so not a nerf when used to fight

The original 1500 hidden range was OP and deserved a change, however otherwise I think it was balanced with Warriors GS rush. Ride the Lightning is affected by conditions, but it also isn’t affected by swiftness (like every warrior mobility skill) and is one of the only mobility skills eles have.

Ride the Lightning either needs to be reverted, or, better yet, several Warrior (and some other professions) mobility skills need a +25%-50% cooldown when used without a target (and RotL should be buffed so it’s only +5-10 seconds when used without a target rather than 20 seconds when it doesn’t hit a player).

in Thief

Posted by: Gilburt.9146

Compared to the kitten-useless release runes, sure. Not compared to the runes that came out once ANet got better with constructing useful sets.

Fair enough, however 3 stacks of confusion (lasting 5 seconds) from auto-attacks and 5 stacks for interrupts (lasting 10 seconds) is still ridiculously good compared to even the useful rune sets.

A Thief that “mindlessly spams interrupts” is going to run out of init fairly quickly.

And if they’re using perplexity runes their target will have probably 8-18 stacks of confusion on them at that point.

And if it’s Headshot, they’ll run out of init and also do no damage. Interrupts require and agreement between you and your target.

Interrupting specific important skills, such as a self heal, takes skill and timing. Getting multiple interrupts with Headshot is easy. If you think it takes skill to interrupt an auto-attack or another insignificant skill once every several seconds with Headshot, then you are fooling yourself. People shouldn’t be rewarded with 5 easy stacks of confusion for every insignificant skill they interrupt. The interrupt on it’s own should be rewarding enough when used properly.

And then on top of that you get 5 stacks with a 10 second duration every 30 seconds? Still ridiculously good with any condition spec that has at least 1 or 2 reliable interrupts.

Honestly, if you’re complaining it’s because you can’t mindlessly spam interrupts anymore and get rewarded for it. Good riddance.

Sorry op refuge its fine as is you get 4 secs to get the thief out, fyi gs 5 skill on guard can also pull the thief out of refuge. There is a cast time on refuge so it can be interrupted and a house icon which indicates the location of the thief. The skill is a double edges swords and half time it can save you or get you killed.

Well, as far as I know Binding Blade will only hit a visible Thief (correct me if I’m wrong), but it could possibly work sometimes if you precast it in anticipation of the Refuge. Also, interrupting Refuge doesn’t seem particularly viable as its cast time is only 1/4s. Perhaps you have better reflexes than me. :P And the House icon only indicates the location of the Refuge, not the location of the Thief, which isn’t particularly helpful.

I’m not sure how Refuge would get you killed. When I’ve used it in the past I’ve gotten away the majority of the time without much trouble.

Your suggestion would ruin it for PVE thieves, one of the few reasons to bring a thief to a dungeon is SR and the utility it brings. Maybe it could work as strictly a sPvP change. I think if there is an answer it should be carefully tuned reveal counters given to classes that need it, like the sick-em buff Ranger’s got.

I can’t disagree with you here. I would be fine with it as a WvW/sPvP-only change, however it would be even better if thieves could be useful for more in PvE than just Shadow Refuge. Also, even with reveal counters being added, I still find it hard to justify the 20 seconds of stealth that Refuge currently gives. :P

Some of them at least were likely queued for another WvW map or sPvP match and they got the queue prompt. When this happens they’d have a 30-60s or so window to travel to the WvW map or SPvP match (depending on which). This can be done even if you’re in combat.

We felt that using a lot of different abilities to maintain stealth is ok, but re-using the same ability over and over for almost permanent stealth was just bad for the game, especially when gaining large amounts of initiative.

You may want to consider reevaluating Shadow Refuge. Below is a post I made in the Thief forums that discusses making Refuge a more interesting skill:

In its current state, Shadow Refuge is an extremely boring skill to play against. There is not much counter-play for it (except for a select few skills that can knock an enemy out of it). When traited, Thieves only need to stand in it for 4 seconds, and then they are free to do whatever they want with 16 seconds of stealth. That is a huge amount of stealth for very little “cost” (i.e. using only 1 skill with a 60s cooldown and standing in a relatively large area for only 4 seconds). And even if you damage them a lot while they’re in the Refuge, so what? They still have 16s of stealth and there’s nothing you can do about it as long as they don’t get downed. This essentially gives Thieves the ability to reset any fight without even having to make much of an effort to run away.

As a Guardian who doesn’t particularly like using Shield and a Thief who doesn’t particularly like using Shadow Refuge (in its current state), whenever I see an enemy Refuge go down, I know that the only thing I can really do is run away to prevent them from opening with an unpredictable Backstab. This is how Shadow Refuge is against most classes. When you see it go down you usually just have to accept that the Thief is going to escape or reset.

Shadow Refuge should be changed to help give Thieves more sustainability in a fight rather than simply resetting the fight altogether. Right now it’s all to often just a skill that terribad Thieves use so they can easily escape once they realize you’re not an easy kill (no, I’m not saying everyone who uses Shadow Refuge is bad ).

As someone who plays Thief often (I usually prefer roaming on Thief instead of Guardian for obvious reasons), I would like Shadow Refuge a lot more if it lasted 5 seconds rather than 4, only gave 7 seconds of stealth total (8 when traited for Meld with Shadows), but healed for 4000+ (or something to that effect). The healing should only be active while stealth (so you can’t put down the Refuge and continue fighting if you want the healing). On a side note: I also do not believe Shadow Refuge should affect downed players, because it often makes it impossible to stomp/kill a downed player before they are revived (especially in outnumbered fights).

Why do I think this would make Shadow Refuge a more interesting skill to play with/against?
1. Thieves interested in staying in a prolonged battle can view this as a huge buff.
2. This version is based around the idea of the Thief staying and fighting, rather than just running away and resetting with 16 seconds of stealth. It gives them more health back, which allows them to return to the fight quickly and have a little more sustainability. Because it would give 2-3 extra seconds of stealth (after its 5 second duration), the Thief would still have a chance to reopen on their opponent with a Backstab.
3. It allows for more counter-play besides just knocking the Thief out with a select few skills. Thieves will have to focus more on evading their opponents damage while remaining in the Refuge so they can benefit from the healing and then reopen. In other words, it requires more skill from the Thief than Shadow Refuge currently does to be beneficial.
4. The Thief is a little more predictable. It will be clear that the thief is probably nearby even after the Refuge ends. Additionally, any Backstab coming from the Refuge’s stealth will be possible for a skilled player to avoid because the Thief will only have a short (and, may I add, reasonable) time-frame in which to pull it off. The Thief can, of course, chain stealth from another source to make this Backstab less predictable.
5. Thieves won’t be able to self revive with 16 seconds of stealth anymore! This means that when I see a Refuge go down I won’t have to spend the next 20 seconds running around looking like an idiot stupidly spamming skill 1 in a vain attempt to prevent a Thief who probably is not even downed from self-reviving! Yay!
6. It’s actually a… “Refuge.” Currently Shadow Refuge just makes you stand in one spot for 4 seconds and then you can do whatever the kitten you want for 16 seconds. Not much of a “Refuge.” More like an extended vacation from the fight. :P
