Some players who took advantage of the exploit you are referring to were able to make hundreds of gold over the course of a few days. Good luck doing that with normal rares.
It is possible to make profit crafting some lv80 rares and salvaging, but it doesn’t compare to the snowflake’s profit. The time required on normal lv80 rares would justify the profit made.
Guardian
The punishments for exploiting should not be absolute, but based on the severity of the Exploit, also taking into consideration how black and white the exploit is.
However, I do like the idea of Perma-Bans being replaced by a Monthly Ban, flagging the account. A second offense worthy of a Monthly Ban should be a Perma-Ban though. It gives the offender a second chance, but no more is needed in my opinion. If they have not decided to play the game correctly by then, I doubt they will ever.
As for the proposal of always removing any profit from accounts that have exploited, as much as I would like it, I imagine it would be difficult. It would take a lot resources for Anet to analyze every account flagged/Banned and decide exactly how much gold that account needs removed.
And lastly, I doubt we’ll be seeing too many more of the same old bugs that keep reoccurring after every content update. As Anet makes more content, they will learn from their mistakes. I do agree, however, that content needs to be more thoroughly tested.
Guardian
From my experience, this is common. Many new players find the game very hard. Those of us who have become more adept though, find it far too easy.
It’s just sad that there are so many people in the mindset that if they can’t do it, then it’s the games fault. It can’t be because they suck, or are approaching it the wrong way. Nope. It’s the game.
I’m still waiting for content that more than 99% of the players cannot do because of the difficulty. It’ll probably never come.
Guardian
Didn’t read the thread for two reasons. One, it’s long. Two, I have a fairly good idea of the content.
From what I gleamed from my slow scrolling to the bottom, it’s exactly as I guessed. There are those who believe GW2 is perfect, the Fanboys as they tend to be called. Then there are their opposites. Those who believe GW2 does everything wrong and will never become anything. I’ll leave the job of naming those people to someone else.
Either way, neither side uses much reason. It becomes “them vs us”. Insults are thrown. Blah blah blah. Topic changes from “Gw2” to “Why you’re wrong, and you’re always wrong. Yo momma”
Unfortunately, the rational people firmly placed between these extremes are quiet, not to mention few and far between.
As for an actual response to the topic at hand, I disagree mostly. There are very few things that would turn me off of GW2, and the return of the Trinity is one of them.
I’ve only experienced this “Chaos” when I was a newb.

I already have the money set aside. As a person who is bad with money, and in college, I gotta hide it from myself early, or it could get spent. I’d be devastated if expansion time came around and I was broke.

Seriously? I have to leave LA to complete my monthly?! Frankly, I’m offended and I’m frustrated.
I should be able to stand at the Trading Post all day, and be able to complete my Dailies and my Monthly. It’s not fair that Anet forces me against my will to do things that I don’t want to do.
cry cry whine whine
And on a slightly more serious note. All you have to do is step foot into a single jumping puzzle once a day. If this is too much, then perhaps you’re just one of those people who can’t be satisfied. The same to those who cry about WvW. Killing two people a day takes less than 10mins. If you can’t afford that much time in a game, perhaps you have bigger problems that you should attend to rather than wasting time here.
This may be a little harsh, but seriously people, come on. The monthly is a reward for players playing various aspects of the game. They are not going to give a different monthly to players who run dungeons, players who WvW, players who explore, players who enjoy jumping, and players who do nothing but sit in LA. That’s just ridiculous.
Even if they did, people would still complain. Anet cannot satisfy everyone here, so just suck it up, and spend 10mins a day doing something you don’t enjoy. I’m sure it isn’t the only thing.

Quick question…
How does zerging in Orr for two or three weeks and running WvW JPs qualify someone as worthy of a Legendary?
After answering that, one should come to the conclusion that the value of Legendaries have not changed since August. It’s peoples’ misconceptions of what a Legendary in GW2 is that are being changed.
This may mean that there is a much more fundamental problem regarding a Legendary. Perhaps some should direct their arguments toward that, instead blowing air around in this thread.

It’s all RNG.
My record for most salvages gone awry is 11 exotics in a row and nothing. At that point, I was nearly ready to make sacrifices to the RNG gods and post pointless conspiracy theories. Then a miracle happened. The remaining 14 salvages netted me nearly 30 Ecto and I reverted back to a Sane GW2 Atheist.

As the proud player of a lv80 Guard, lv80 Ranger, lv80 Ele, and soon lv80 Thief, the difference between the Armor classes are minimal and almost unnoticeable.
The imbalance lies in the class itself, not the armor they are wearing.
Someone above mentioned that d/d Ele has the lowest armor and health, calling it an imbalance. My Ele can tank circles around any encounter, and any class but a Guard, which he is nearly on par with.
The health differences balance the classes. not the opposite.

I don’t farm much, but I when I do, it is normally for a few hours at a time. I personally notice nothing as far as DR goes. I have experienced it before, but not for over a month. Back in October, there was a very clear difference in drops in the first half hour as opposed to the 4th or 5th half hour. This was consistent.
Now, I don’t get much of anything, anywhere. This is also consistent.
Guardian
I settled with a green MF set. Cost me a whole 2g and I have about 125% magic find with food, and sigil of luck at zero.
When I do farm, I solo farm, and the MF set is worthless for that. Without the set, I can easily kill mobs twice as fast, which makes my MF set void of any use. My normal armor is only greens and rares due to a recent build change and I haven’t bothered to waste money to bump it up to Exotics.
When I run around with a few guildies, I can see a difference in drops though. And it may be worth getting a MF set, though definitely not an exotic one, if you’re going to be running in groups a lot.

You’re trying to force your character to do a very specific task, and the game doesn’t allow for specialization on that level.
It’s equivalent to someone refusing to use knockdown or stuns, only cripples, while crowd controlling. It’s like a condition Necro using nothing but poison, ignoring bleeds and all other conditions.
If you want, you can play full Support, but healing is a very small part of Support. Cripple is only a small piece of Crowd Control. Poison is only a piece of Damage. To make full use of your character, you have to fulfill every piece of that role, and as much of the other roles as possible.
Support involves healing, boons, damage mitigation, tanking, ressing, and anything else I’m missing. And you shouldn’t only Support either. You should use your crowd controls as well, and continue dealing damage.
Trying to force yourself into something so specific will gimp yourself, and your party. Anet should not change that.
Also, a Legendary is a skin. It can have any stats you want.
I play Support Guard and Ele. I have no problem getting gold medals on every single event.
Guardian
Honestly, that is simply ridiculous. I managed to read most of it though.
1) I would personally like to add online/offline notices to my chat without the other stuff, but it is just as easy to press Y or G. Actually, once a decent number of contacts are added, the notices would become useless, and somewhat annoying. If you have twenty notices, you won’t likely remember each one, so pressing Y to get an overview of who is on will still be necessary.
2) If 4 are online, or even 3, pug the remaining spots for a dungeon. You’re imposing these “limitations” on yourself. If you have completed the zones that your friends are in, or they refuse to move to a different zone, then the problem is not with the game, but with you and your friends. My friends and I never have a problem finding a map to do.
You cannot play each of your characters the way you want and expect to stay in sync with your friends. If you play far more than they do, or them you, then a level gap will appear. The easy solution is to not do every zone from 1 to your level. Leave holes here and there that you can do with your friends. Once you’re 35, there is always a dungeon available. Take into consideration your friends’ current status and progress.
3) If your guild of friends is Guild A, you’re also in Guild B, and your friends are in Guild C and D, then I have this crazy idea. Why don’t, they join Guild B, or you join Guild C or D. You can have 5 guilds. Then again, you can always use mumble, skype, vent, or some other program to chat. Unless taking a little initiative to chat with them is too much of a hassle? If so, then all of this is moot.

As a melee Guardian, half melee Ranger, and melee Ele, I disagree entirely.
And hurrah at that mention of Dark Souls. Fantastic game. The combat definitely has its similarities, as I have discussed with my friends on multiple occasions. In Dark Souls, most new players would play almost entirely specced into magic. This is because melee is pretty unforgiving at first. But just like GW2, once you get the feel for it, melee is entirely viable, and most of the time, preferred.
One of my guildies tend to run as a glass cannon GS warrior. He doesn’t die very often at all. He goes down more than the others, but not too often to offset his incredibly high dps. As the Guard, I adjust as I can to keep damage off of him, and if he is going down, he’ll call it out, and we’ll be ready to pop him back up in less than 3secs.
And don’t forget the dodge roll. Use it as a temporary invulnerability rather than to get out of the way.

I personally would love this idea, though not allow every color of the rainbow. Perhaps allow a light/dark slider and a small color range.
It would indeed increase the time it takes me to identify professions though. Then again, whether I’m in sPvP or WvW, I don’t worry about too much about that. I’m more focused on getting a good estimation of their DPS potential to adjust my playing accordingly. Anything beyond that isn’t relevant.
If I am interested in their profession, I just look at their buff bar. That tends to give it away even before a fight.
Being able to darken my Guardian’s light blue effects would be insane. I’m already clad entirely in black, and working on my Twilight.

Over 1200 hours here. Found my guild at about 300 hours or so. I was actually strolling around Queensdale after hitting lv80 on my second toon, when I /mapped asking for a small guild. Accepted the first one I received. I’ve always felt that was a great stroke of luck. Luckiest I’ve been in this game.
My guild isn’t big. We actually only have about 10 people who play everyday. It’s even quieter right now because of Christmas. We dungeon, WvW, clear zones, sit around Cities talking on mumble. Everything everyday. We’re all content in the guild. Even those that have been gone lately due to reasons in RL, we all know what they’re doing, because we keep in touch with most of them.
Progression can be a glue for guilds, but only a certain kind. As I see it, there are two types of guilds. Those with purpose, and those with community. Progression is important for the first. The one that needs it. The members of this guild are there for a reason, not because they care particularly about one another. The second doesn’t need progression. It’s completely irrelevant in fact. The members of this guild are here because they enjoy each others’ company.
Find a guild of the second category. It may be hard, especially if you are looking for it. But it’s what makes an MMO fun in my opinion. My guild, for example, isn’t even entirely within GW2. We play games other than GW2, and we chat outside of the game. Even when a some of us aren’t in the mood to play games, you’ll often find us on mumble anyways.

I’ve ran with glass cannons that have done exceptionally well. As the Guardian of the group, I, more often than not, am the tank, and if I know someone is a glass cannon, I put a little more effort into keeping them alive. I can see a substantial difference in DPS when the glass cannon is alive, and when he is running back.
Then again, I’ve ran with glass cannons that have just been repeatedly shattered, not aiding the group at all. My favorite ones are the ones that stand next to me while fighting a large group or a boss.
Skill is important, but so is a good party. If the glass cannon is constantly pulling to much aggro, then he will be mostly useless, regardless of skill.

The word of hundreds of gamers isnt good enough for them then frankly they dont deserve to have a good loyal base.
A few hundred players complaining about bad luck out of several hundred thousand players isn’t exactly indisputable evidence. I’m not saying there isn’t a problem with DR, but I’m personally convinced of nothing. I’d be surprised if Anet was.

The only real obstacle to a legendary is gold. Whether you obtain it from the TP or you craft it. Nothing has changed.
Guardian
I did have a problem with thieves and culling, until I picked my own thief back up and started WvWing on it. After some theory crafting and play time, I’ve come to the conclusion that even without culling, a thief will still have complete control over when the fight begins, and when the fight ends.
I figure that once culling is fixed, which requires very fundamental changes to the game, and if not done carefully, can result in an entire host of new bugs, people will move on to whine about thieves being OP.

How does this make someone “worthy” or more “deserving” of a legendary? How does it make a Legendary more special?
All the regulars in my guild have obtained these. The only reason they don’t have a Legendary is because they don’t have the Gold.

I started gathering for my legendary about a month ago. My plan from the beginning was to simply get the Gifts, and then save gold as I wait for my Precursor.
If my estimations are correct, and I don’t get lazy doing certain things, I’ll have everything but the Precursor in just under 2 weeks.
Afterwards, I’ll save up gold. Then one of two things will happen. I’ll acquire it through RNG, or Anet will do something that causes its price to drop. Until then, I’ll just keep chugging along.

My “win” is when I’m 1v1ing someone in WvW, being eyed by the 5-7 bodies of his team mates I just killed, waiting and watching for a res that will never come. Then I land the stomp and watch as their bodies disappear, one by one.
Other than that, I’m just having fun. And when we’re having fun, we’re all winners. (>o.o)>

Grind is usually associated with repeating a task into extreme monotony. If you go out and kill 1000 monsters, just because you enjoy killing them, then you are not grinding. If you go kill them, not because you want to, but for some other reason,(e.g. profit) then you are grinding.
I never grinded anything on my first character. I got to 80 just by playing content and exploring the world with a little crafting here and there. I got exotics by doing dungeons, playing content I missed, WvW, and helping friends.
On my second character though, I grinded. I was more concerned with getting him to lv80 and geared than actually engaging myself with the content.
My 4th character, lv42 now, I’m not grinding at all with. I just WvW and play with friends.
Now my goal is to get a legendary. I am in no way forced to get one to be competitive. I’m not trying to keep up with anyone. I’m simply want one because it looks cool. Am I grinding? Yes, but not that much. I invest about 15mins of my time into the TP a few times a day. The rest of my time, I spend doing things I enjoy. Progress is being made, but I’m not burning myself out with grind.
Grind is certainly a part of GW2, but it is at an acceptable level. I allow myself to grind a little, but I will never grind so much that I begin to resent it. I’ll get my Legendary, and when I look back at the time between deciding to get it, and obtaining it, I won’t see “One Large Grind”. That’s much more than some games offer.

Time is Money
Pay to win is when money is more valuable than time, to the point that time is worthless in comparison, regardless of how much of it you can spend.
I find the opposite to be pretty bad as well. Why should someone with ridiculously large amounts of time get an advantage over someone who cannot afford that much time?
I believe GW2 has found a pretty decent balance. It takes neither a large amount of Money or Time to reach the plateau. After that, players are equal to one another, regardless of how much Money or Time they have.
Guardian
Whether you can sell the final product or not, the only barrier between a player and a legendary is gold. I see no difference between SoA and SoE legendaries.
Guardian
Projected Profit is the amount of money you will receive when the item sales. This is only taking into account the 10% selling fee.
The 5% Listing fee is not taken out of the money you receive when the item sells, but straight from your inventory when you list the item.
So to determine actual profit, subtract the Listing Fee from the Projected Profit.

I salvaged 100 rares made from t5 mats costing 14.5s a rare today, out of curiosity. With Ectos being at 28s, I came out about 3g under. Meh, perhaps I was unlucky. Perhaps I need a larger sample.
On the other hand, a guy I know was able to take advantage of the pre-patch giver trinkets, and he made a good 150g or so.
I fail to see how the first could in any way have similar results to the second. The bottom line, imo, determines what is or isn’t an exploit.
