Oh there is, they could add big lakes with tower in the middle conquered by building siege ships or something.

Maybe enlarge walls and add ladders to climb them, ofc they would need to make the walls wider so that you can do battle for walls, cuz walls atm are lame.

Add some rewards for being 1st, like 7 day bonus in something for winning last week and maybe applying same bonus to PvE world, so ppl get even more motivated to fight for their server.

At its boring. Waste of money and time.

Suggestions that take an enormous of work to implement, as well as careful and long balancing? Yet everyone expects them so soon after launch woes are mostly cleared.

There is still a massive amount of class balancing to do. PvE has to be kept up, squashing new bugs and all. They have special event content that must be finished and tested. They still have a lot of work to do on the current WvW, and they are probably re-working orbs as well.

Yet people continue to ask for more? The Halloween Event can be Example A. As fantastic as they did, many still weren’t satisfied.

And if the satisfaction of beating an opposing server is not enough motivation to play WvW, then WvW is not for you. Adding more rewards/boons to winning would just increase the gap in population a server experiences between Winning Matches and Losing Matches.

As for WvW becoming stale, a little internal server competition would fix that.

I think it has nothing to do with the Orbs, but with the fact that rankings are balancing out, slowly. Free transfers are still annoying, causing outliers, but the huge masses of nomads seem to be settling a bit.

Honestly, I didn’t really feel too much of a difference when 1v1-ing with or against orb buffs.

Finished my Ele last week. 14.5k health. Defining it as squishy couldn’t be more incorrect.

As I learned with my Guardian, health pool isn’t such a big deal.

And to above, Staff is ranged AoE that is sub-par when alone, or in smaller groups. Dagger is best when alone or in small groups. Scepter is in between. I find that pretty well balanced to be honest. Switching attunement is what the Ele is all about, so of course Arcana is best. Ignoring that is like a Guardian ignoring supports, Thief ignoring stealth/mobility, Mesmer ignoring clones, Necro ignoring death shroud, etc.

I do agree that the Ele needs some work though.

I was actually asking for any other reasons to get badges, as those are commonly known.

The legendary is an impossibility to obtain for the average player. For those who can get it, it takes long enough that running the JPs once a day will net more than enough.

Gearing up via badges isn’t an option, as they only offer a single set of stats. With all the possible combination of stats, the vast majority of players will not need these. If gearing up was actually something one could do, my opinion would differ. The WvW exotic set is essentially a skin, and little more.

Back to the question, why are badges necessary? I see no uses for them currently.

@florgknight So does my ranger, if not higher. I forget. But that is at max range. As soon as that distance is covered, which takes 2secs for any decently built toon, the game is over. Not to mention, walking back and forth will dodge everyone of my auto-attack arrows without exception at max range.

My guardian and ele have never once lost to a ranger in a 1v1, or even come close to losing. I’ve lost to every class at least once before, but never a ranger. They die easily, and their damage is mediocre.

He is level 65, and I have no idea how well up-kept his gear is, so hitting low numbers and being squishy is entirely possible. At lv65, he should have just purchased the lv65 masterwork set.

WvW scales your stats. If you have the best stats you can at lv50, for a lv50, then you’ll have decent stats when scaled. But if you have crappy stats at lv50, for a lv50, then you’ll have proportionally crappy stats at lv80 after scaling. Tested on my ranger. Each level I gained actually lowered my stats in WvW, until I refreshed my gear for my level.

I refresh my gear at 15 level intervals starting at lv20. My rangers attack and armor, after scaling, was roughly 2800 and 2300, respectively, at lv50. At lv64, they were roughly 2200 and 1900.

I’d also like to point out that 5 out of 7 of the hits shown, were critical.

I’d also like to point out that there is hardly a gear divide. Upon hitting lv80, the masterwork gear, 30s for a whole set, will do. Anyone can get these. Rare, less than 3g for a set, is mostly identical to Exotics except for a small insignificant difference in stats.

Now if you are referring to the gear divide between a lv10 and a lv80, that’s a different story. Still not a gear divide though.

Supply Camp Defense Strategies

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Nice video, but I hardly consider having 10ppl and siege and fully upgraded NPCs versus waves of 20-25 invaders terrible odds. Not great odds, but partly manageable. A wave of 50 would have been an impossibility though. Unless you had your “oh crap” skills on, you would have been dropped when they got to that first ballista.

All that lost siege could have instead been placed on a wall.

When it comes to camps, the only upgrade that really matters is the double supply runs, and that only costs 10s. I defend a camp if it is defend-able and I abandon it if it isn’t. I can re-cap it in 5mins if necessary.

I do understand that there is a time when a camp needs to be defended. Most often the case when a tower or keep has been taken, and is in desperate need of supplies. Double supplies, a maintained camp, and Doly escorts is often times the deciding factor on whether that objective will fall or not.

The only difference between the two is that one is bigger.

Zergs exist because more people increases the odds of taking the objective. More people lowers the odds of dying. Not many other reasons than those.

Thief Perma-Stealth Video

Gisei.5749

I’ve lost track. Mind summarizing all your valid points as to why perma-stealth is a fair and legit class mechanic?

I haven’t stated that perma-stealth is a great mechanic at all. And this thread has seemed to steer away from the perma-stealth discussion altogether and become a ‘complain about stealth’ as a whole thread.

Stealth is a legit class mechanic, that is all there is to it. I personally feel as though there should be a limit to what amount of time you can spend in stealth before getting a debuff that prevents it for an amount of time – lets say 30 seconds tops stealth – I think that would be fair.

Stealth gives thieves the element of surprise, and people don’t like that. But, that is how the class was built, and how ANet intended for it to be played.

You actually got me to re-read the entire thread. Nowhere in this thread does the topic change from perma-stealth/ThiefOP to complaining about the general stealth mechanic, except when you rise to defend it against no one. If you believe it does, point out the post that does please.

No one here is complaining about stealth. We’re complaining about perma-stealth. Due to culling, even though the thief is technically visible for a short time to himself, the other players do not get that opportunity of visibility.

And one guy wants other classes to have escape skills too.

Thief Perma-Stealth Video

Gisei.5749

Initiative is one of your arguments? So, because we as a class have a LIMITED RESOURCE that we have to work within, when ALL OTHER CLASSES can spam their moves anytime they are off cooldown, that is a good feature for us? Come on.

Something wrong here…

How so? That’s how all the classes work. It isn’t like initiate magically replenishes itself – it takes time to come back. We can’t help the thieves that spam heartseeker over and over – they make us look bad sure.

Not all of us are backstab/glass canon builds either. I run a toughness/condition build and I don’t abuse stealth. Stop with sweeping generalizations everybody!

I guess I’ll explain.

Initiative and Cooldowns are basically the same thing, just a different skin. Don’t act like one is vastly inferior to the other.

And to cover the bold part, there is no spamming skills while they are off cooldown. Cooldowns are initiative. If our skills are off cooldown, we can use a bunch at once. If a thief has full initiative, he can use a bunch at once. Same thing.

Also, my Ele will accept perma-mist form, my Guardian will accept perma-aegis, and my ranger will continue to suck in the meantime to keep things balanced.

^
I’d like to have perma-Death Shroud for my necro and limitless number of illusions for my mesmer.

Again, this is when you don’t understand the mechanics. If we hit you, it breaks stealth. Mist form can’t attack anyone. Perma-aegis would be bad because you can then hit and never be hurt. Death shroud permanence would be unfair because of the massive health pool and additional damage. More illusions for the mesmer would be unfair because there would be no way to counter it. You guys are really reaching here.

Understand it, once again. THIEVES CAN’T DO DAMAGE WHILE PERMANENTLY STEALTHED, OR IT BREAKS THEIR STEALTH.

Why Orb Removal Will be Very Bad for WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Where were all these orb defenders when the threads asking for the removal of the orbs were everywhere? Sigh… Regardless, removing the orbs was the best course of action. Until they are reworked, let ‘em stay gone. Also, I’ve met very few people who actually cared about the orb.

WvW will get its updates in due time, but honestly, there is only so much that can be added to it. New siege will only lead to old ones becoming useless or the new ones never being used. Adding new keeps or structures isn’t exactly possible, not without reworking the entire zone for balance.

As for stagnation, that will take a while to happen. It’s PvP. Fighting other players takes a lot longer to get old than fighting NPCs, so of course PvE will get more attention. Even if March rolls around and not a single WvW update has been issued, it would still be a thriving place. With servers still shifting, and few truly being able to experience even wars, WvW is nowhere near stagnant.

To most people, the destination is more important than the journey.

I just read a post somewhere around here that said losing isn’t fun. I honestly disagree. Losing means there is room for improvement. There’s a chance to progress, to become better. Stop Selling Commander Title

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

My guild leader was aspiring to get a “Commander” title a few weeks ago. But we soon realized how weightless it has become.

I lost all faith in Commanders I don’t know when…

One tried to build Siege in spawn and asked why it wouldn’t let him put it down. Then proceeded to leap off the cliff and place two trebuchets within catapult range of a gate and within enemy arrow cart range.

…and…

another Commander later that night was absolute sure that ninja-capping the supply camps would “weaken” the enemy server. The enemy server at the time owned the entire zone, and had every structure(besides camps) fully upgraded, as well as stocked.

The best part was that each of the Commanders had rather large followings that believed he was the best thing since internet pron. They begged everyone to follow him(after multiple failures I might add), and if we did, it would turn the tide of the war. Anyone who didn’t were worthless idiots, and the cause of our server’s horrible score. Questioning him or giving suggestions was the highest form of mutiny.

I would have liked the Title to not only cost gold, but require a certain;

- amount of time in WvW
- number of kills
- number of supplies used
- number of objectives captured, of each type
- number of players “supporting” said player, each of which have met the same conditions as above, but to a lesser degree.

First four would allow the Commander to at least have some knowledge as to how the basics work. The last one I’m unsure of, but I assume you know what I’m getting at.
