I’m willing to see how the idea works out, and most people in this thread are over-reacting.

Ah, but this is the GW2 community, so perhaps it is a pretty good reaction.

I imagine that it’ll be a direct counter build to boon heavy builds. As a Guard, I can already rip my way through most players rather effortlessly. First to run into the enemy zerg, downing players left and right. Once I’ve gathered enough attention, I get out, wait for a CD or two, and dive back in tearing a path through the enemy zerg again.

I think having anti-tank builds will make things interesting. Perhaps something threatening to my Guard other than the combined focus of 10 players.

Though my only concern is that that speccing Anti-tank should have a decent sized opportunity cost.

Merits - two guild bounties in a row

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No. To get the full 25 for the week, you have to complete Tier 3. If you have done Tier 1, you get 15 merits. If you then go complete Tier 2, you will get 5 merits, totaling 20. If you then finish Tier 3, you’ll get another 5.

If you do Tier 1 then Tier 3, you will get 15, then 10. If you do Tier 2 then Tier 3, you will get 20, then 5.

Just tested with my guild less than an hour ago.

I am an avid penitent shelter farmer too. I get between 2 to 4 rares per hour farming there. With the patch that introduces tough mobs much less people are farming there. I think the actual supply of ectos are about the same as it balances out the chest drop increase.

And I farm grenth too. Not the chest but the ice elementals. Post grenth buff patch. Lots of people farm grenth and deliberately fail the event to farm the mobs. I think the chest drop balances that too.

I can get 6-8 rares from Champ chests an hour. I also severely doubt there were enough players, pre-patch, farming Orr to cause 10+ sec skill delay and overflow servers.

Even if the rares per hours are the same between Orr farming and Champ chests, Champ Chests are far more accessible, less grindy, and doesn’t require constant activity throughout the hour. Because of this, the amount of participation in Champ Chests now FAR exceeds the amount of participation pre-patch in Orr, thus the rares generated far exceed the number pre-patch.

WvW – PvP takes a long time to get boring. I’m always looking for that next player to really challenge me. Between meeting those gems, I"m busy throwing myself at impossible odds for fun.

Legendary – I’m working toward a Twilight casually. Started on November 23rd. All I need is Dusk.

Friends – I could run the same path of a dungeon a 100 times, and as long as my guild is on and along with me, I won’t be bored. They are fun just to talk to, and I enjoy watching them make progress towards their in game goals. Guild of about 10 actives. We’ll be trying Giuld Bounties as soon as the upgrade finishes(started yesterday), hopefully that will be fun.

What if culling is unfixable?

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Anet said they have certain lines they will not cross in terms of performance and bandwidth usage. Culling helps the game maintain acceptable performance and bandwidth usage. Removing Culling without crossing those lines is a tough challenge.

Culling’s implementation was not unintentional, but it’s effects on WvW were not foreseen. Fixing it requires changes very deep into the code. Fixing it correctly without causing other major problems or crossing the performance and bandwidth lines takes time. A lot of time.

Saying culling will never be fixed is ridiculous. The problems that it cause are too big to be ignored.

Do charr get targeted alot?

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

I target rangers first and foremost. They are easily downed, and cause unnecessary damage and control. After rangers, I target Thieves, followed by Warriors. Those are normally downed easily enough, and can be a real threat if left unattended.

As for Race, I prioritize Norn>Charr>Sylvari>Human>Asura, if proximity allows that is. If the Norn is necessarily large, or the Charr unnecessarily ugly, I will go out of my way to kill them.

I also prioritize any players who look or play similar to any of my characters.

I didn’t take the patch notes to read “Retaliation used to be able to affect 25 players in an area and now only 5” so much as “For every individual player, Retaliation can only stack duration 5 times now instead of 25”.?

Both are incorrect.

Let’s say there are 25 players with retaliation attacking a mob. The mob casts an AoE that hits all 25 players once. Because of the retaliation on each player, the mob would take damage 25 times. Now, post patch, if the mob hits the 25 players, only 5 of the retaliations will hit him back. The other 20 buffs will not tick.

So Sorrow’s Furnace wants HoD to basically take a couple weeks off so they can climb up to our tier more easily? That makes zero sense. Umm, we’re in T8 because of the Glicko System, not because we aren’t strong enough. At the moment, just before reset, we are winning by a 250k point lead. How will our Rating change based on this? A very meager amount I can assure you.

If you consider that the case then no one from your server should have suggested HoD take a vacation so they can join tier 7. Because it wouldn’t do a thing would it? I never said you guys weren’t strong—you put that out there.

It would quicken the swap. Selfishly, that would be fine with me. The new T8 doesn’t concern me. The outcomes of T7 doesn’t concern me.

Why Is There a Cap to Condition Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

It’s not even big events, just two condition players gimp each other severely. My thief has no problem maintaining a 25 stack of bleed for 15secs, and can maintain 17 after the spike until the next one. Having one other player who stacks bleed above 8 starts cutting into my damage. What about 20 players each stacking nearly 15 bleeds?

Perhaps they should just cap all damage in a target to 3k/sec. Let’s the vast majority of the player base experience the woes of a condition build. Perhaps the QQ that would erupt will make change.

And yeah. I read about the Bandwidth response. If that is indeed the case, then it is sad. Very sad.

New Thief Trend in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

GC Thieves are incredibly easy if you can twitch react.

As a Guardian, the moment I hear the hiss of the daggers(You know, the “shing” sound, and chunk of health missing), I pop protection. I stun break if necessary. I hit them twice, use Ring of Warding, switch to GS and down them before RoW expires. If they don’t teleport away, I’ll have them hooked with my Binding Blades if they do survive. If they use Shadowstep, then good game, they don’t try again, and my RoW will be off CD before their SS is.

On my thief, the moment I hear the hiss, I’ll use Death Blossom twice. They just blew their entire burst into air, as well as have 6 stacks of bleed for 20secs. If I am stunned, then I use Blinding Powder and their Heartseeker can’t touch me.

On my Ele, Shocking Aura, which also grants Protection. I can often times auto-attack them to death afterwards because they are still spamming Heartseeker =/

I personally feel like Thieves hit just a little too hard, but not absurdly much. Even while I played a heavily defensive Guardian, 3300 armor and 21k health, I still had to twitch away from thieves. Playing the most defensive profession to the defensive extreme should allow for some survivability against anything. I’ve recently become a much more offensive Guardian, and I find thieves much easier to handle, since I can drop most within the duration of RoW.

I find the easiest way of handling thieves is to know the thief. Make one yourself and learn the tells. Having stuns, immobilization, denials, chills, cripples, pulls, and knock backs go a long way in killing a thief. Prevent that Shadow Refuge and most thieves go panic mode.

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

A lot of arguments here are falling flat because they are supporting their points with no accessibility. This is completely wrong. Everyone can participate in the guild missions, whether you are in the guild that kicked it off or not. You still get rewards and everything, you just don’t get to be in the “Spotlight”.

I can see it now. A 5 man guild, err party, kicks off a Mission. They begin to do it and 20 Randoms flood in and complete nearly the entire event for the guild. What a lot of QQing that would bring.

As I have said, if gaining 10k influence is “extremely difficult”, as some has described it, then you are barely larger than a party, much less a full fledged guild. These are “Guild” Missions. My guild, less than 15 actives, has generated nearly 5k influence in the last 48hrs. My Guild isn’t a “small guild”, it is an “Incredibly Tiny” Guild. Often times, we have to pug the last spot in our party.

If a Guild wants to do Guild content, it should first be large enough to actually gather a Presence. If a guild can all fit into the same party, then they already have their Guild Missions. It’s called Dungeons.

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gisei.5749

We have to define “small” here people. A Small guild is 20 active players in my opinion. In this case, maxing every Tech wouldn’t be hard at all.

A guild that rarely sees more than 6 or 7 players online at once is hardly a Guild. It’s more of a party.

Will Guild Missions need a levelled Guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Can two of the same mission be going on at the same time?

If not, then I can see why this is the case. We can’t have every single guild trying to activate the same mission, so having prerequisites is important, especially when there will only be a handful of missions to complete.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who put a little thought into it. I never for a second considered it being a low level guild upgrade.

And don’t forget that just because you can’t afford to “Start” the mission doesn’t mean you can’t still participate.

My guild has never had more than 15 active players, and we are fully upgraded, with pretty much every item stockpiled. Apparently to most of the posters in this thread, 15 is a large hardcore guild.

Could always come to SF, and help push us out of T8 ;D

As for SF, outside of a few groups, we lack any sort of coordination. Having a large portion of the server speaking spanish doesn’t exactly help either, and will be another hurdle to jump. Whether it’s due to the language barrier or not, half of the players I whisper in game do not respond at all.

Once the zerg starts rolling, nothing can stop it. Then when it wipes, 40% of it will disappear. When the other 60% sees this, most of them will disappear as well, leaving only handful to defend all the objectives that we had just claimed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Even a broken watch is correct twice a day.

I see nothing wrong with the way Anet handled it. Then again, I had no problem with the word “perceived” either. The code said there was no problem, a small number of players said there was. I’m assuming most here have never taken a car that feels off to a mechanic, and the mechanic say with absolute assurance that the car is fine, only to find on the fourth or fifth visit something wrong. Not a bad mechanic, just not perfect.

What do the players here want to see? Arena-net say you were right, and we were wrong. I remember demanding that a lot when I was six.

And just to note, the Conspiracy people are not necessarily right in this situation. The fix on the 26th may only fix the loot from Champions and Veterans, and do nothing for the average mob. In this case, Nothing has changed. Loot will still suck.

So before everyone starts giving high fives and demanding compensation, lets wait for the 26th and see what actually happens, and if you are correct, proceed with the parade.

I’ve done the above before, and as long as both players can do their part, it works nearly without exception. I was the D/D Ele, and toying with 10-20 people isn’t a problem. When you dive into them, they all go kitten mode thinking they are about to +1 their kill count.

Thief/Thief works well too, but if you run into the wrong player, then you could both get dropped pretty quick.

If you get caught four times within the cooldown of these skills, then you’re not doing it right. If no cooldowns are used, a decent D/D Ele “should” be able to escape from any situation regardless.

As for adding a Global Cooldown, I vote no. The last thing I want to do is have my inventory open half the time using these items on cooldown. It’s tedious and annoying. There is also no UI functionality that adds ease of use to items in the inventory.

As for food buffs, I don’t see anything wrong with them. If you can’t afford the lv80 kind, get the lv65 kind. The difference is negligible, and normally less than 25% the cost. I’m actually building a lot of my chars with food buffs in mind now, as they can be used to cover weaknesses in builds.

“weak” server would imply you’re somehow better than either fc or et which is a far cry from the truth, but numbers are what wins games so if you call mindlessly charging at objectives in a larger group then yes, you are stronger than us.

Score suggests otherwise. In a game of points, the player with the most points is the better player. Whether it’s due to tactical prowess, average skill, or just raw numbers. SF, as a whole, is stronger at WvW than ET or FC, regardless of how competent your small forces are. And don’t assume everyone on SF lacks skill, as your tone "implies’. We have just as many great players as you do. We’re just lost in the comfort of a zerg.

As pointless anecdotal evidence, just last week, a group of 7 SF, myself included, successfully defended Overlook from 25 ET for nearly an hour, before we had 5 or 6 more SF join, resulting in stomping them out. Unfortunately due to ET never being around for most of the day, we rarely get such opportunities.

Also, you should read up on how the ratings and elo work my friend. I feel you are grossly misinformed.

I actually understand how the ratings work quite well. Maybe you should read up. (This game is fun… and stupid… and unwarranted) In the most simplistic terms, good servers go up, bad servers go down. As I recently said, score is the ultimate factor of “How good” a server is. Of course, due to the low volatility of the current match ups, a population shift can have a long term effect on the balance of matches. Hod is currently a stronger server than SF. Whether or not that will change though, will be decided in about 3 weeks time.

In the end though, I wouldn’t get my hopes up that HoD will be a much better match. I may be wrong, and I hope I am, but my posts are evidence that I don’t believe it will be.

Not to be rude, but I can’t want for a real opponent that will be able to actually challenge us without just mindlessly steamrolling us.

Then you have a long wait ahead of you. ET is after all, the weakest server WvW wise. Even if SF moves up a Tier, our replacement will likely be too strong for T8.

As of Feb 1st, SF’s rating was in the 800s, and ET’s in the 600s. Henge of Denravi, just above SF, has a rating of 1k+. If we somehow replace them in T7, they will likely steam roll ET and FC just as SF does.

I believe it would be better to hope for improvements in ET, rather than hoping a weak server drops to T8.

Reset was good today. I actually played WvW for 9hrs straight… on a Friday night. Heh.

FC was hitting awfully hard and using some nice coordination. I was surprised to see it. I hope SF can become more like that.

As for ET, your Trebs in Overlook are annoying as hell, but at least I was able to rack up kills next to your wall from those defending the trebs.

I think I topped 300 kills since reset.

And as Mira posted, Thank You for the party [PK]. It was a great way to finish off the night.
