MAJOR power/damage bug since last patch.

If the situation is as Zsymon has described it, repeatedly, over and over, with little alterations or new information, then it is obviously a bug. It’s a pretty serious bug that will likely be fixed soon.

I just visited a lv3 area with a lv80 and a lv16 and there was nothing out of the ordinary. My 80 dropped the mobs with a single skill. My 16 dropped them in a few seconds.

Everything is normal, for me.

Is anyone avoiding ascended gear and why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

I don’t avoid it so much as I haven’t bothered to get it. Since I mostly play WvW, and run Dungeons with guidlies, I have no need for anything higher than Rares. Two of my 80s are in full Exotic from casual play, and one more was in full Exotics until I changed builds. Haven’t bothered to get him more than Rare yet. Lastly, my thief is still in Masterwork. Apothecary is pricey.

I’ll get Ascended eventually. I’ve done plenty of Fractals, I just haven’t bothered to farm them, though my last two runs have peaked my interest. I ended up with 1 Exotic, 9 Rares, a Lodestone, and 2 cores afterwards.

Because it can’t be dodged without using bugged traits, try dodge it on guardian/thief/ranger/engineer/mesmer/necro. This attack is undodgeable which dev (Robert Hrouda) confirmed.

Then perhaps they should get onto fixing that because, as of the time that I last did Arah, it was indeed able to be dodged, by any profession.

Nice, but you realize he’s using bugged trait which today should be fixed, right?

I was referring to dodging the skill you said cannot be dodged. I’m not concerned with how he went about soloing the boss, and it isn’t relevant to my response. I had to link a video since my anecdotal evidence of dodging on my Guardian would likely not have been enough.

So a “hardcore” 15-year old who has a ton of time and can afford to get so good at grinding encounters until they know them by heart is supposed to somehow have exclusive access to the best gear in the game so they can roflstomp everyone in WvW (you know, the part of the game which actually requires some skill)?

Sorry, but no. I don’t want to grind PvE content for months just to be competitive in a completely different part of the game.

If raiders get to have the best gear drops, I say we PvP-ers get to have those too, only how would that work? Can’t have a noob on his first day in WvW drop the same quality gear or tokens or whatever as a veteran who can turn you into a crater just by sneezing in your general direction.
And how would the game know which is which, who is the PvP equivalent of a “boss” and who isn’t?

No, I think gear with actual stat differences should be accessible to everyone on an equal basis. Titles, skins, have at them. But no gear grind and especially no gear grind which requires PvE raids.

Please re-read the thread entirely and actually respond to what has been said. In this thread, no one is asking for better gear.

If a player who is running a Dungeon changes his gear to MF, he WILL perform worse. There is no debate there.

He is increasing his drop rate by decreasing his performance.

Actually, your wrong ~ it was. Everything in this game was/is and always has been created for the casual players. I think the problem is here, especially it seems to me there is just alot of newer posters who haven’t been around here since the very start, and in fact way ‘before’ launch.

The casual player makes up way more of the playerbase than the current hardcore players, the problem is ~ most of the current playerbase who hasn’t quit are the hardcore/elitist base who want a much more controlled game (in their favor)

This is one of the major reasons I have problems with elitist players, they tend to ruin MMos in general – often using entitlement against players, when its really the opposite – its more like, I have this (insert item/title/shiny) and you don’t… so its more like egoism. The problem is in the MMo world, there just isn’t enough of humble players, whether its a casual or a hardcore player.

So you, as a casual, deserve to have the game tailored to your needs, but hardcore gamers do not? And we suffer from egoism?

Explorable Dungeons were intended to appease the Hardcore crowd. Whether it lived up to that is irrelevant. Saying that the game was built only for casuals is false.

On the contrary. GW1 community coming into GW2 expecting some basic principles to be adhered to. You know … level cap as a constant. It is not QQ, it is a personal choice that I don’t want to play games that destroy my character every once in a while.

Yes… Cap increase not only makes my character less viable, it actually makes all content. Not only that … a level cap increase actively destroys old characters and content which is why I’m against it. I don’t believe gaming companies have a right to reset character progress. You can disagree but this is my philosophy. A.net can disagree too and they’d lose me as a long time customer.

You’re assuming Anet is going to introduce Level Cap exactly as WoW does, or other MMOs.

All WvWvW Titles Unreachable

I always thought it was 50k, which is a good number. 250k though, is absurd.

It has been exactly 15 days since my return to WvW. I have obtained about 2k kills in that time frame. I don’t play AoE either. For 50k, it would take me 345 more days to obtain the Title. While indeed being a very high number to reach, I believe it is perfect. Not just everyone can go out and obtain that. The Title carries weight. Legendary weight, I might add.

As for the rest of the Achievements, bah. Those are ridiculously out of reach for even the most hardcore of players.

i don’t see the need to grind in GW2, even though it’s ideal to get to max level so that you are not an ankle biter in WvW,

Best part of this whole thread. Gave me quite the chuckle. I’d also like to point out that if you get enough ankle biters together, they’ll gnaw right through you. A bunch from my guild all hopped into WvW with <lv10 toons, and it was hilarious.

And to be on topic, GW2 is a relatively grind free game in the sense that the Quote from Colin describes it.

My 2 cents on Legendaries, and similarly valued items, which are the vast majority of Grind in GW2…

They HAVE to be hard to obtain. Defining hard as time consuming.

They can’t be acquired through Skill because every player who isn’t skilled enough will NEVER get a Legendary. Skill doesn’t simply come, as money does. To put it into prospective, making it hard enough that only 1% of the players could do it would be far too easy. I’m imagining seeing a Legendary on every 100th player, and they don’t seem all that Legendary anymore. Maybe those in the top 5% may be able to become proficient enough to get a Legendary with practice, but to the other 95%, it’s an unobtainable item, regardless of what they do.

I even have a friend with arthritis who plans to get a Legendary. If it was skill based, the goal would be an impossibility. But with money and the “Slow but Steady” approach, she will have it one day.

But with Legendaries requiring gold, every player can look at the price, see how much money they make in a day, increase it in every way possible, and actually see progress, as minute as it is. Gathering gold is possible by EVERY player, so Legendaries are obtainable by EVERY player.

This is of course not factoring in the rabid inflation, which I personally believe will be fixed eventually. As for the DR, I still believe it is a Myth. Maybe it is just because my drops have been pretty good, having got countless rares and 5 Exotics in the last two weeks(3 from player kills).

I do believe, however, that the current rewards for playing in the open world is equivalent to some sparkly dirt. Hopefully, it will be rectified in the coming months.

Elewars vs Guildwars

Gisei.5749

@Febrizzio

This isn’t WoW, or other similar MMOs. In GW2, you can spec to take damage on any profession, regardless of armor class. I run Thief, Guard, and Ele all with Major Tough, and they can all take hits to the face, as well as 1vX. I have a friend to plays a tanky ranger, and can skirmish with multiple opponents. Mesmers can easily take multiple opponents even as glass cannons. Push a necro’s health nearly to 30k and spec for Death Shroud, and he can tank for ages. One of my guildies is a Warrior who is built high in Vit and Tough with perma swiftness. He can easily fight 3-5 players for a while.

The only class I have not witness go tanky is Engineer, though I don’t fight many of those, nor have I played one.

@ExZee

So why are your QQing about the QQers who QQ about QQers? (hurrderr, this game is fun)

And I never said that D/D Eles are not OP. If I did, please point that out. I said they are not as OP as people are making them out to be. The situation is manageable, and doesn’t warrant crying, especially after making the dev’s attention. And just to note, being on a Watchlist does not guaranteed a nerf, though does increase the likelihood.

Elewars vs Guildwars

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

Only read OP.

First, there are not that many D/D Eles. Thieves easily outnumber them 4 to 1, if not more. Whenever I face a Zerg of 30 or so, there is normally 1-2 D/D Eles in it, but easily 6-8 thieves bouncing around. Actually, as of late, I have been seeing a larger variety of professions, as well a some very skilled Engis, Warriors, and Mesmers.

Second, there is a very clear distinction between a Good D/D Ele and a Bad D/D Ele. A good one will run circles around a zerg. It doesn’t matter how many hit him, he will always get away. The bad ones are barely capable of pestering a single player. The D/D Ele has a high skill cap, which allows those with the skill to rise up and shine.

Third, the only reason D/D Eles are considered OP is because of their mobility and CC. Another potential reason is because most players don’t have a D/D Ele, and do not recognize skill tells and patterns, and they have a lot of skills. I fought 2 D/D Eles yesterday alone, and I had little problem, on my thief by the way. I even managed to kill one of them before the rest of their group caught up. I was only able to do this because I have a D/D Ele that I have played extensively, and those Eles, though pretty skilled, were predictable with their combos. They switched to Earth, I backed up which lured an Earth 3-4-5 combo. They switch to fire, expected Fire 3 followed by 2 and 5. When they go to Air, expect 3 and 5, or if you are running, a 4-5 combo. Hold back your cooldowns while fighting them, until after they leave water attunement, then burst burst burst and be prepare to snare before they Air 3. That’s exactly how I killed the Ele above. I kept 8-9 bleed on her. When she healed up and left water, I hit her with 20+ bleed. She melted away helplessly. (Note: If you can’t identify all the skills these numbers refer to off the top of you head, you have no right to complain.)

Fourth, compared to other classes, D/D Ele has very mediocre DPS. It may seem different if you don’t have one, but we focused on keeping you in control, unable to do anything while we whittle you down. We have two decent spikes though. Two very easily avoided spikes. Fire 5 misses most of the time anyways, and Earth 5 has an insane channel.

I would, again, like to stress that learning a class by playing it makes it infinitely easier to fight. Prior to me making a thief, I always found fighting thieves to be a chore. Now, I know what every tell means. I know exactly how long they will stealth. I know when to dodge. Everything is much clearer, and easier. If those who feel so threatened by D/D Eles take the time to learn one, you’ll see that they are not quite so OP. While it’s still a very good build, it’s also very manageable.

Yes, you are laughable… Obviously you must’ve missed last week’s livestream with Colin Johanson.

Q: Do you find any profession to be out of balance like Ele bunker, roamer, thief one shot combo, mesmer portal?
A: Ele bunker is really strong, on our watchlist

Any other QQ would have a reasonable amount of doubt involving learn 2 play issues or culling or hackusations or whatever. But when a dev has specifically stated that a single build of a certain profession is “on our watchlist”, now it’s time to make fun of QQers QQing about QQers that are actually justifiable. So QQ on everyone except the OP. Because obviously these same people who tells the OP that he’s QQing will QQ when d/d eles do get nerfed and say it was the QQers that nerfed it.

If you take the time to read that quote, you’ll realize it is on a watchlist. That means they are not entirely convinced it is OP, but they are watching.

There is absolutely no logical argument for MF. Losing a stat gimps your performance, and it is at the expense of others. If you have three apples, and lose one, no matter how you try to word it, or twist it, you have less apples. The same applies to stats.

What the nay sayers here are failing to understand, is that Explorable Mode Dungeons are supposed to be the hardest content in this game. As it is right now, any pug can do any path of any dungeon with relative ease, with the exception of Arah. When a pug can enter the hardest content and complete it with extreme ease, then the content needs to be buffed, a lot.

As for those asking, “What/who does WP rushing hurt?” The answer is no one, but Anet does not want their dungeons being beaten like that, and that is all that matters. I’m personally getting a little excited about Dungeons now. Hopefully, they’ll become challenging for once. I found them challenging and fun back in September, but now that I’ve beaten them all countless times, they are just a place to grab some quick coin.

As for me, this change will make very little difference. I rarely let anyone die anyways, and I also run with guildies a lot, who all know the importance of reviving.

Give melee a SLIGHT buff in wvw / Pve

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gisei.5749

Gisei.5749

I made it to “I’m a Guardian” and quit reading. Not really, but you lost credibility to me.

My Main is a Guardian, and I love the profession. I run GS and Sword/Torch in WvW. In the last four days, I have gotten about 350 kills, and died about 20 times, if not closer to 15. When Zergs collide, I’m always in front of my Zerg, buried in the sea of red. I tank through a lot of damage, and I deal decent damage. Decent being about half a health bar per whirling wrath.

In all honesty, it comes down to a L2P issue, as much as I hate saying it. Melee is harder to play than range, but not inferior. You have to keep an eye on the tide of battle, and make sure you sway with it. You have to know when to back out to take a breather, and when to give that risky push. The majority of the damage you take will be ranged, but that’s nothing a WoR won’t fix. It also bolsters allies to push forward, many going melee to do it.

When I die, it always comes down to one of two reasons. One, I pushed my luck and bit off more than I can chew. I do this a lot, because I’m always pushing my game, trying to do better. Or two, the enemy begins pushing forward, and I don’t notice(sway of battle). Now I have to wade through red to get back to my allies, which can get ugly fast.

Everything else comes down to just how well you manage your resources, and how skillful your play is.

As for PvE, I just whip out my hammer and can auto attack the vast majority of bosses. You mention the Dredge Fractal Boss, and I melee it too. Learn the tells, and dodge. Take a breather if you must. Use aegis at the right time. Keep protection up. Heal, dance, be the one to tip the bucket.

Lastly, players always go the path of least resistance. Range offers this, as it should.

8 tries and no clovers isn’t incredible with a bit of bad luck. When getting my 77 clovers, which I did in one sitting, I had several strings of bad luck where I wouldn’t get any clovers with nearly 15 attempts. In the end, it took me 226 Ectos, which is only 5 ecto less than par.

I always lean towards the Defensive side of the spectrum, and I’m satisfied with what we have.

Healing is only one form of mitigating damage. Unfortunately, it is also the most visible. If someone can heal themselves for 111 health per second, and they are taking 864 damage per second, then 13% of the damage is being blocked. With protection, it is 54%. Throw in blinds, aegis, dodging, and CC, and one can negate the vast majority of incoming damage for a time.

And to note, my self Healing per second far exceeds 111. It’s at least 10x that. I tend to play on the defensive extreme though, so I’m no where near 864 DPS.

I have this feeling though, that most players who see Healing as lacking haven’t quite grasped how Support works. A support build only using heals is similar to a condition build that only uses poisons.

And lastly, the goal of a survival built character is not to survive endlessly, but only to survive longer than what you’re fighting.
