WvW isn’t the place for GvG. Players wanting it, and WvW being the only place for it is completely irrelevant. It does not align with the stated Vision of what WvW is to be. It will not be supported, and any updates to WvW will not include any consideration for it.
Players need to quit arguing for it to be accepted in WvW, and start arguing for it to become an addition to GW2. The former is wasted time(it’s the internet). The later may obtain results, even if long term.
Guardian
Easy, increase AoE to hit 10 people instead of 5… Thus a group of 5 can stop a 50 man zerg, grats.
Anet has already explained that it’s not easy and reasons they won’t do that.
It is is easy to increase a cap from 5 to 10, they’re not being totally honest. Case in point: DAOC, a game > 10 years old, had no AOE cap and supported higher player density as well.
The servers can’t handle the calculations with the current cap. Increasing it would make WvW even more unplayable.
As for DAOC, as you said, it is 10 yrs old. It required a fraction of the calculations that GW2 does. GW2’s combat was designed in a way that requires far too many computations for WvW. And before it’s said, I highly doubt “buying better hardware” is the answer.

Most of the complaints are about Blobbing, Skill lag, and Stale maps. Undertaking any one of these will result in a busy team for a long time. I’ve just assumed the lack of content is because they have done just that. Giving out the new Masterys is a resource light way of providing content, while pursuing more resource intensive goals.
At least, that is my view on this particular subject. Makes far more sense than the “Woe is WvW, We’ve been abandoned!” view, imo.
As for new content, I would love to hear some non-stupid suggestions as to what they could add. Emphasis on the “non-stupid”. I’m fairly certain adding to PvE is far easier than to WvW.
Guardian
What would happen? I assume the server would crash.. or combust.
Guardian
Let’s not forget the 2 week patches are for PvE, or more specifically, Living Story. That was made clear in the beginning. We’re lucky that the patches include anything at all for WvW. Until a “WvW” patch is announced, it’s best to expect nothing. Complaining about the lack of WvW support in a PvE specific patch is pointless.
And when that glorious patch finally arrives, expect it to be for WvW’ers(W = World) and not for the PvP’ers that enjoy roaming for the fights. Anet does not consider WvW to be PvE or PvP. As such, the emphasis will be on what WvW is all about, siege and objectives. As much as I dislike it, being a roamer myself, it’s what I believe should be expected.
As for players who score a lot of kills getting an advantage over those who don’t, I wholly disagree. I can win entirely on my own skill. The only perk a player who enjoys killing needs is a target on them that screams “Big Wxp, come and get it!”.

Started my Twilight back in November as well. Finished it in early May. The only “Grind” I did was 20-30 minutes on the TP a day. Nearly all of my time after that was spent with my guild or in WvW.
I didn’t cling to every copper I could either. Since November, I leveled and geared 4 more classes, as well as spent over 100g in respecs. Made sure to enjoy every event, obtaining as many of the limited skins as I could. I threw about 200g into the MF for Dusk, but decided to just save up the 600g instead.
While the entire process may be a horrible grind, it is quite painless if you treat it exactly as it is. A Long Term Goal.
I don’t particularly like the way it is now, but I also cannot think of any other method more suitable for making an item extremely Rare than extreme grind. A lot of people complain about this without offering solutions, which as far as I am concern, it a complaint without any merit. Any skill based challenges would not work for obvious reasons, so what is there besides grind?
Guardian
I’d have to agree with Viking Jorun on this one. Level 80. While obtaining all the skills at lv30 is a good start, the professions just do not feel complete until you have all the traits. A lot of the skills just do not shine until paired properly with traits, and the same with various play styles.
Guardian
Arrowcarts do not have the problem with skill lag, so treat all AoE “calculations” like Arrowcarts calculations except with different animation.
I’ve seen this mentioned several times, and it wouldn’t work.
The calculations are very likely to be the exact same between AC skills and Player skills, since the AC acts as a bundle. It simply replaces the player’s skills with different ones. The difference is that AC are restricted to 5 within a certain radius. In most fights, only 5-10 players will have access to the 50man AoE cap(AC usage), while everyone else is still at the 5man limit. In this case, the servers can “mostly” handle it. But if everyone was able to have an increased cap, the calculations would be far greater than the current system, a.k.a more skill lag.

Woo! Finally succeeded in logging off. Took a rather long shift keeping eyes on Quentin Lake. Was very intense there for an hour or two. I’m glad that DH broke and went for IoJ. While the loot was exceptional, it was exhausting. It took me nearly an hour to fix up Quentin. Finding all the pieces was quite the challenge.
I’m the little Asuran Guardian with a Twilight. Fear me!

Any decent thief will see a Guardians GS 5 or Shield 5 coming, and dodge. When I play my thief, I can dodge three times consecutively within my Refuge, which covers nearly the entire duration that I’m forced to remain in it. What gets me most is the Mesmer’s pull on Focus, since it is ranged.
I find a Thief’s stealth pretty balanced. It really only takes one good move on your part to kill a thief, or if they are tankier, to send them running. D/P, though, is ridiculous at the moment. Permanent stealth is horrible. On my thief, I don’t have time to wait after I stealth. I have to attack for the bonus damage, get another CnD ready(using initiative), blow a utility skill, or back away. I have a matter of seconds to decide and execute, but with D/P, I have all the time in the world.
The only real way I have found to killing these guys is to throw my body into the way of their heartseeker, to reveal them, which is rather tough to do.

On to the more important topic though…

Confusion was ridiculously OP prior to this patch. I have no idea if the fix was too much yet, but it seems to be the case.
Now for the best part, will all these bandwagon Mesmers adapt, or move to the next Hot thing.
Guardian
Substantial amount of communication? That’s an overstatement if I’ve even seen one. Four or five Eles figuring how what order to go in is nothing to be praised.
This encourages better trebbers and better treb placements. It encourages players to actually look for enemy trebs. No more can a treb just be placed in any old spot as a counter, and let Eles make it invulnerable to counter fire for as long as they choose. No more can players simply hug the treb and not have to worry about how it’ll fare.
This is a good change. Not a bad one in any way. Anything that makes trebuchets less convenient is a boon in my eyes.
Guardian
Perhaps instead of trying to make Confusion your primary source of damage, use it as just another source of damage. Even with a 50% reduction, it won’t be weak, but it also won’t completely insta-kill most of the player base.
And it isn’t “easily negated by attentive and intelligent players”. Not in a long shot. My Engi can push confusion to 5k per skill use, and I’m nearly a bunker(3k tough, 1k Healing power). My friend pushes Condition damage and has his Engi pushing 7500 damage per skill use. No amount of attentiveness will prevent that first attack. Most players won’t be able to stop their second attack. At that point, even attempting to remove the condition will kill you. And waiting nearly 10secs is not an option.
I personally think this will only kill off builds that rely Solely on confusion damage, which isn’t a bad thing, since no “condition build” should rely on a single condition.
I’m not saying 50% isn’t overkill, but I don’t think it is ridiculous either.

Hello peoples.
Just wanted to pop in before a nap and say that NSP’s roaming groups are nothing to brag over. I’ve been doing a lot of roaming with my Ele friend, and I haven’t really been impressed. Haven’t noticed any guilds that I just jump at for the thrill yet.
I miss Yarr.
Though just to make sure, does any good NSP players go to EB? That may be my problem.

Yes, if i have 3g and run across an item that has a buy order of 100g, i can’t sell that item because i have to put up 5g just to sell it. So the solution for me, which doesn’t affect anything about the way the system works now, is take the money off the sale, since the buy order money is a guaranteed sale.
I see two problems. Undercutting, and using TP as storage.
Guardian
That guy has one, so I should get one too!
Logic at its finest.

Oh people. How can you be so ignorant of WvW?
The zerg is obviously the most important part of WvW. Dismissing it is ignorance. Small groups can be a strong asset as well, unless all they care about is fighting rather than helping the zerg where it needs it. Of course, the zerg has the higher skilled players, just because they have more, so the likelihood of a having a gem is higher, though among all the other players, it’ll go unnoticed.
Then again, why do I care? Whether I run into an enemy zerg with my own zerg, or a small group with my own small group, I’m going to be in the middle dropping them left and right. If a certain red fiber-rich Guardian is with me, cut the time in half.
Look for me… I’m sure you’ll enjoy the fight. I like EB, less walking.

So, the people in this thread honestly don’t see double SE as OP? It’s simply being blind and/or biased to think otherwise. I’m rather new to the Engi profession, about a month since I hit 80, but I instantly latched onto the old Kit Refinement. It was simply a must have, since stacking SE was ridiculously powerful. I couldn’t care less about the effects of any of the other kits. I simply wanted that second SE, as it pretty much gave me and my allies 10secs of invulnerability.
I’m beginning to think this profession is a magnet to people in Theatre.

We have been trying to tell this to SF for a long time now, and our reward was to have what we said met with snark, attacks, rage and hate, and.. well. lets just say they did not take it well at all, which is why, 9 weeks later, they are still here, they are still stalling, and T7 is laughing at them.
Maybe they will listen to you, when they would not listen to us.
Not going to go into an argument, meaning I will neither continue a discussion on the topic, nor will I acknowledge a response. This horse has been kicked enough.
My 2 cents to the average ET response, being both arrogant and condescending.
My point is ET isn’t any better.
ET isn’t any more decent on the forums than SF. I’ve seen players from both servers act like kitten. Your post shall be the example. If you try to deny it, answer this question to yourself. What was the point of the response? The only answer is a jab at SF.
The average ET isn’t any better on the field than a SF. Of course, this being from personal experience. Just look at the 50 man zerg that’s been running about. Looks like SF from last week. Messy and disorganized, and trust me, I know what both those are.(I’m from SF)
If anything, FC outshines us both in average skill and, heck, even forum behavior as well. Just look at them after observing VK. I’m seeing them begin to move like VK, even when no VK are present. I’m not saying ET is worse than SF, but it’s about time to hop down from that high horse, and do as SF is trying to do. Improve.

That video hurts my heart. Unfortunately, me yanking players out of your formations and killing them, including commanders twice, didn’t make the cuts. =/ Good video though, even though I didn’t get any star roles.
But as for communication, that’s our biggest flaw in my opinion. Half the players on SF won’t even respond in chat. If we try to get a portal bomb together, maybe 10 out of 50+ will heed the call. If we have a zerg attacking a tower, and we need reinforcements elsewhere, anywhere, no one on that tower will leave to assist. Our guys who get to the trebs and mortars first shoot at the wrong targets, and won’t listen to players trying to correct them. People place golems at gates, and trebs within catapult range. Players rather stand on the wall and shoot rather than help erect siege. It’s all rather frustrating.
And well, they say be the change you want to see. My guild isn’t WvW centric, but I’m willing to join one that is WvW focused, and doesn’t just want to play WvW, but to be best at it. One that strives to be more VK-ish in the field, and willing to put self interest aside to up the score. I will not rep 100%. PM me if your guild would like +1. (CoSa, don’t bother. Trim 70% of your players and I’ll think about it)

Do all of [ret] plan to join VK?
I actually hope not. That’d be overkill.
No. We are a separate guild. We broke off from them when we made the move.
WE ARE NOT HERE TO STAY.
We are here until thursday of next week than we return to our home in Fort Aspenwood. We are simply here to take a ‘vacation’ from the insanity of T2. It was needed. T8 has so far been nothing but fun as hell.
I’m not sure if I’m disappointed or relieved.
Guess SF needs to make your first and last T8 reset as fun as we can. Be sure to be in SM asap reset. If we’re lucky, ET will make their first appearance in over a month.

might be out of place here, but those of you that just saw VK join t8 and are already announcing they are the best thing since sliced bread. I’m going to have to say, from fighting Yarr for a long time now, I do think they’re the best small group out there… at least until I see otherwise.
just imo. but I have a lot of respect for them
Yarr is definitely skilled. I have a lot of fun targeting them, but they are completely different than VK. Yarr is best is small fights. 5v5 and under in my opinion. Exceptional at 1v1. Yarr aren’t really all that special when it is 20v20. Another face in a crowd.
The few VK I pulled out of the back went down quick. The few 1v3s I had were decent at best. VK shines in- -a- -zerg(censored?.. why) scenario. It’s very safe to say that there is no other guild in T8 that matches them… yet.
And great. BAck to losing SM in the mornings. =/

Oh hai, SF was nice introducing my guild to your server in EB tonight. Jerrifers was fun.
We are thrilled to have you guys in T8, you guys are now one of if not THE MOST skilled small group on your server. The fights have been great, and the tactics have been a little eye opening. Keep it up, and welcome to the tier
Most skilled among all 3 servers if you ask me. Almost ridiculous =p
Hopefully, they will wake up SF from its complacent state. Our guilds got nothing on VK, but numbers.

Don’t forget that ET and FC aren’t the only servers to get a large boost from the WvW patch. SF was fielding more than three times our usual numbers tonight.

I wonder if these incredibly small guilds (aKa. less than full parties)complain that they can’t complete a dungeon because they don’t have 5 players, and shouldn’t have to ask for help from pugs. It really is the same concept.
Guild missions are made as Group Events. A public group event. Emphasis on the public, and group. 3 people aren’t a group. 5 players are a dungeon party. Think bigger. 8 players is more like it.
My guild was able to rally a whoppin’ 8 players for our first round of T1 bounties. We successfully completed them, without cheating. We are an incredibly small guild, managing 8 players for a scheduled event. Any smaller than us, and you’re not a guild, you’re a fancy dungeon party.
And I thank you Anet on behalf of my guild. The only thing holding us back was influence. This will no longer be a problem. It has made all the difference.

The Devs mentioned in the Gw2 Guru State of the Game interview that Guardians lacking escape is very intentional, so any hopes of them gaining the ability to escape beyond their current leaps and ports are in vain.
Guardians are able to escape if conditions are ideal, but as a Guardian, I much prefer standing my ground. It’s more natural.
