Pretty sure everything related to legendaries are account bound. All gifts definitely are account bound, at least.
So, yes, you can trade them from thief to other character.
I have an 80 warrior and elementalist, but I’m still levelling up the other classes.(eventually I will level them all up, since levelling in this game is so easy)
I find warrior to be fairly boring and stiff compared to the fluid, agile-evasive style of ranger. I definitely wouldn’t switch to it as my main. Although, with boon duration food and traited signet cooldown reduction, warrior has pretty much permanent swiftness from signet of rage, which is crazy good for running around.
If I were going to switch to another, my mainstay would most likely be elementalist. They are quite a blast. It’s like a grand mix of an EQ bard, some type of wizard, and a WoW warrior(stance dancing). So much utility and so many fun abilities. Ride the Lightning may be the coolest ability in the game, also.
That said, I still enjoy my ranger the most. I originally started off as warrior, then switched over to my ranger full-time, later on.
Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.
how uncharacteristic of an anet dev to be so definitive with their words
we will hold you to it
Haha. After the way this forum ultra nerd-raged the last time he spoke here, I sincerely doubt he’d say this if it wasn’t already decided.
I got the Dreamer. Nothing annoys the enemy in WvW like a pink ranger shooting rainbows at you with his pony bow
That would be fun. Even better if you are a little Asura.
But, correct me if I’m wrong, enemies don’t see your pink colored outfit. I seem to recall it being to where all enemies show up with that same dark color pattern in WvW
Honestly, spirits dying just seems a bit silly to me, given that each takes up a separate utility slot, but I can live with it.
But, they really could use a drastically larger radius on their buffs.
Er, I am pretty sure threads about the above two questions don’t get closed… because, pretty much every thread in these forums mentions those, haha.
And, the ones that do get closed are probably because 90% of what gets said in them is trolling and complaining.
Well, I think JonPeters stated pretty well what he thought needed fixing the most in his old thread that now has 1,000 complaints. He said he wanted to work on signets, shouts, etc.
In another thread, he stated that he felt Longbow and such were fine as they are. So, what I take away from all that is we’ll see a rework of signets, shouts, spirits, and alot of trait fixes. And, hopefully we’ll see pets get fixed up to attack on the move(who knows if we’ll see this anytime soon though).
Well, I’m working on Bolt first. I probably won’t make The Dreamer or Kudzu ever because of the skins. They are just a little bit too ‘My Little Pony’ for my tastes.
There are better skins for bows, imo, in the exotics list.
I love the crafting, Master Crafter will be the only title I ever display.
Grinding is doing a repetitive task over and over that is not fun.
Just because you need X Karma and X Gold to get something doesn’t mean it’s grind. It’s only grind if you do the same thing over and over again to get X Karma and X Gold.
I agree, I like the crafting and have them all at 400.
It’s not as deep as I would like, but you really can’t have a perfect crafting system in a theme-park MMO, to be honest. To really have a grand crafting system you’d need to be able to run your own shop, etc., like in the sandboxes(UO, etc.).
I do wish the discovery system would be upgraded in future patches, so that you can actually create stuff, etc. It just needs more mix and match, and less discover something once and you are set for life. I think the Mystic Forge adds a bit of variability, which is nice, but not quite the same thing.
And, the name of the crafter on the items would be nice. Ugh, in this game… why is everything so anonymous? I hate how everyone is nameless in basically all modes of the game(crafting, pvp, etc.).
I don’t know why people say crafting is useless in this game, though, because the quality of items is basically as good as anything else, and you can make a large profit off crafted items in the TP, really.
Just want to make sure everyone understands this: This is not a nerf, it doesn’t mean you can no longer play two traps at the same time, it apparently just fixed a bug (that no one knew about) allowing ranger to play the same trap twice :P
Yeah, I can’t believe how many people are currently crying over this. It’s not like they removed some type of class ability. They simply fixed a few broken mechanics with the patch(this duplicate trap one, opening strikes, etc.) and made them work as they are supposed to.
I guess people either didn’t understand the patch note, or they just need something to complain about with every patch.
The reason you make a destroyer short bow over a pearl shortbow is that the destroyer shortbow looks great, and the pearl shortbow looks…yeah.
Seriously, between the pearl weapons and the legendary bows, I’d say ANet might want to review the child labor laws. Four year old girls are too young to be working for you, guys, sorry.
I also am curious about how they will deal with crafting and ascended items. I wonder if they will give it a full crafting system like exotics, or if they plan to keep it as obtainable through grind mostly, to entice people to farm new dungeons. I sure hope they do it the same way they had the current system, to where you can get equal gear through crafting. I assume they’ll update crafting with new ascended recipes when they release ascendeds throughout the different game modes.

What’s sad is when you’re on a wall and you can’t even toss a trap down onto the zerg attacking a door. I mean come on? Ranger aoe definitely needs to be reworked.
A million times, yes. Not even just aoe, though. You can’t even fire your freaking bow over the walls because you just get obstructed by the wall.
I could be wrong, but I think it will show whichever weapon is in your main hand.
Yeah, this was a nice, tight week between all 3 servers. Good matchup. And, frankly, I’m glad Darkhaven should be moving up instead of us. Everytime we move up into a new tier we just get zerged back down, being outnumbered like 5-1 during the daytime hours(I’m on DB).
Anyway, it’s nice to see such close scores and competitive matchups now and then.
I’m quiet deceived of the leathery armors so far.
I don’t think you are using that word correctly.
Back on topic: I agree with how few options there are. It’s pretty much all pirate hats and trench coats for leather armors. There aren’t a whole lot of options if you don’t want to look like a swashbuckler.
Well, according to that guy’s reddit Q&A a day or two ago, they are currently working on alot of changes for WvW. As to how long that’ll take, well, that’s anyone’s guess.
Nevertheless, at least they have commented on some of the things they’d like to do with WvW, so, at least they’ve already been thinking about it.
Honestly, I’d prefer to see a way to remove/destroy your own team’s siege weapons… there’d have to be some type of security features in place for griefers, though.
But, I’d rather see some type of removal system, so you can build new ones, rather than being able to repair the old ones.
The second part I couldn’t agree with more. What’s so hard about making dodge override the chain? Can anyone think of another auto-attack chain that renders dodge unresponsive? If my ranger can’t voluntarily stop himself, he shouldn’t be able to be interrupted either. Rename the sword skill “rage” and make it grant stability.
The last two attacks of the chain involve movement. If they allow you to use dodge to cancel them mid-execution, they would have to change all movement abilities to follow that same idea. I don’t think we’ll ever see dodges interrupting your own jumps. The sword is all about making good choices, anyway. It is far less forgiving than other weapons, but if you know what you’re doing, the added mobility is amazing. This is coming from an sPvP/WvW perspective (mainly WvW).
Anyone else picturing a totally awesome kick-flip animation involving an enemy’s forehead and vaulting through the air? $$
I agree with the others, it is much more a ranger issue than not. You see this non-stop on a ranger, but doing ranged on other classes it’s pretty rare, in comparison.
The pet is definitely part of the problem, but he’s not the root of it. It happens with or without him in the way.
It’s definitely blown way out of proportion. By reading these forums, you would be led to believe you get one-shotted by everything that moves and can’t kill crows.
But, ranger really is the most bugged class, I believe. Aside from the bugs, there’s a few major annoyances. No speed buffs, lousy traits, etc.
Still, though, if you like the class and don’t feel the need to be the fotm overpowered class, it’s fine.
The class is still alot of fun, even though it’s unfinished. The best MMO tip I can give is, if you enjoy a class, never visit the class forum
All these forums are is largely complaints about the bad stuff and fix suggestions/discussions. There wouldn’t be a whole lot to discuss if everything were perfect.
I get the impression they don’t plan to stop them at all, at this point. I think the increased cooldown to a week was their way of dealing with it. It doesn’t seem as if they have any interest in shutting down the free hopping service.
The right time to shut it off was like 1.5 months ago when half the servers started plummeting to the bottom of the pile because all their players left.
People noticed. But, these aren’t new or related to the last patch. These are just more things that have been broken for ages… you know, cause Anet doesn’t ever fix anything.
IIRC, opening strike only works up to a certain range… and it might only work on auto-attack or something dumb also.
You honestly don’t need to dodge roll that often with the sword. Especially in combination with a dagger. There are so many build in evades with the weapon skills that dodge rolling becomes secondary.
That being said, they could easily fix the sword auto attack chain by making dodge supersede the chain.
Yeah, I just hope that’s all they do to sword’s chain. I hope when they decide to “fix” the auto-attack that they don’t remove the leap and snare and make it actually useless.
This is just another placebo effect that hits people everytime there’s a patch
Wishful thinking and hoping for positive, hidden changes
The sword is probably my favorite ranger weapon, to be honest, even with the stupid auto-attack issues. I do find it disappointing how we have to spend half the fight evading and dodging rather than actually dps’ing, but that’s a problem with the melee system in the entire game. This game really isn’t kind to melee players, compared to ranged.
What I’d really love to see changed with sword, is for melee attacks to not hit and aggro neutral mobs you aren’t targetting(with the aoe hits). That goes for all melee weapons in the game, for all classes. This pretty much sucks in all styles of play(WvW, PvE, etc.)
Rather than upping the passive move speed from the signet, I’d rather have it stack with swiftness. Move speed currently takes greatest buff and applies it to your character, so if our signet was allowed to stack with the 33% we get from swiftness, we’d have 43% total. I think that’s pretty good.
Well, then the other classes would really have a right to complain.
I personally don’t like that at all. For myself, one of the main reasons I want a 20-25% passive is so that I’m not forced to equip that warhorn whenever I want to get anywhere. I don’t like the warhorn, and I’d prefer not to be forced into using it just to get anywhere at a reasonable speed.
So, a passive 20-25% would solve several problems at once, in my book. Whereas, stacking the speeds higher and higher would just create more problems all around the board(not just with rangers), affecting the game as a whole.
Something like an Asian-style dragon mask would be a pretty sweet addition to the game.
I don’t really have any complaints about our underwater abilities, to be honest. They work pretty well as they are. The 2 skill is a little mediocre, I suppose. They could possibly increase the duration or damage on it.
I do wish spears could be used as a land set though. Spears are such cool and amazingly effective weapons, it’s a shame that they locked them out of 98% of the game.
Yeah, I think the best thing they could do is give longbow terrain-height advantage, but I don’t see that being in the cards.
I hated it in other games how arrows were like heat-seeking missiles and would turn at 90 degree angles to hit people. So, I don’t want to see that, but faster projectile speed would definitely be helpful with the moving target issue.
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned it, but it’s not just thieves with stellar speed abilities. Elementalists also get 25% while air attuned(think it’s their 5 point minor trait in air?).
Warriors of course have almost permanent swiftness if they use the Signet of Rage.
30 second uptime and 48 second cooldown(traited, 60 if not).
And, of course, the Thief 25% passive signet was mentioned, etc.
So, basically… who cares if the thieves whine, they have plenty of other advantages with stealth, teleports, etc.
In closing: Yes, I’ll take 25% passive, please
I’d even be happy with 20%, but there’s no real great reason for us to not have 25%.
Given the current issues with culling/rendering already, I’m not sure further affecting visibility would be a wise move on Anet’s part.
Nevertheless, I sure would love an impactful weather system. Not just in WvW, but the game as a whole.
Yes, it’s very annoying. It’s been this way for as long as I can remember. I think, someone correct me if I’m wrong, it kicks in when you go over the 1000 range. There’s some kind of dead zone in the higher ranges.
The dagger is an off-hand only weapon for Ranger. It only has skills 4 and 5. You have to equip a sword or axe in your main hand while the dagger is in the offhand to get those to appear.
Well, I definitely think the moderators on these boards are about as anal and ridiculous as it gets. You basically get infracted for no real reason on here.
That said, the fact that threads like this one pop up every single day, probably aren’t leading the team to think of the forum-goers as mature adults. I’m not directing that at the OP, personally, I just mean complaint threads/posts about the devs/communication/etc.
Other than the mods being horribly overzealous, this forum and the dev communication is about the same as every other game.
I am a glass cannon build, 30/30/5/0/5, full CoF power/prec armor and Ranger Rune lvl 80. AC Ghastly LB, Mystic Crescent SB.
And I have a hard time (mostly) terminating DOWNED players unless I open up on them with QZ, etc abilities. Is this a Ranger issue or not? WTH am I doing wrong? lol.
In what scenario? Because i know i have no issue killing downed players, then again i’ve gotten tired of getting interrupted from “Finish Them!” so i either send my pet onto them to slowly kill them as i take care of something else, or i just descend on them with my greatsword swinging and send them back to the way point in pieces.
Well, I don’t recommend igoring the downed player and just leaving it to your pet entirely, because, I’m pretty sure if a downed player kills your pet it will rally them.
On that note, I also hardly use the “Finish Them!” thing. I only use that in a situation where I have teammates DPS’ing them also. If I’m alone, I just DPS them down.
I don’t really have a problem finishing people though. I think downed players do WAY too much damage to healthy players, but that’s another story…
I’m sure you’re all smart folks, and I don’t need to mention the following, but I’ll leave it here anyway.
It is easier to dodge a single hit (especially one that you see coming because of a long charge up), than it is to dodge a multi hit (because even if you dodge the first few, you’ll still take the rest).
Yeah, unless you are facing a ranger in PvP, then you just run in a straight line and all of them miss
I thought rapid fire worked like this for some time until I understood, the numbers on rapid fire are a bit misleading. the last shot in rapid fire is the total dmg from all shots. Each shot in rapid fire only adds to the total that is displayed for each hit, making it seem that you are doing more damage for subsequent hits, when you are not.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure all channeled type abilities work this way. Mesmer/ele beams, etc.
I think alot of people still don’t understand this and think their rangers are hitting a heck of alot harder than they really are.
Yes, it’s not just short bow. For instance, rapid fire keeps tracking and shooting at them, so you can see which direction they are running towards.
I’m sure there’s quite a few abilities that stay locked on for a few seconds after stealth pops up.
Basically warrior abilities do 3-5x as much damage as their ranger counterparts.
^— If you compare ranger to the other classes in this game, it’s not. But, I think it’s intended to be a DPS/control/evasion class like Thief, Ele, etc. They just forgot to add the DPS and evasion to it
I would recommend turning off your Auto-Attack(ctrl+right click) so you can have more control over when you’re kicking, and in turn getting rooted, and when you’re leaping.
This is the only real solution(the player-made band-aid fix). It’s pretty annoying having to spam 1 constantly though when you are trying to kill something, but it’s the only way to be able to move/dodge while using a sword.
Very regressive, feels like playing older MMOs where you just kept spamming the same button over and over.
(translated version) TLDR: Less troll, more re-roll
good luck to get them to fix anything much less something actually useful
Maybe they’ll fix it so that it works 100% of the time underwater and 10% of the time on land.
They need to make 3 usable before 4. I start to self-heal then stupidly stop that to use the pet heal, which as you guys already know does nothing. Now I just interrupted my self-heal and put it on cd so my pet can pee on me.
They just need to make it so using it doesn’t interrupt your self-heal. It just makes absolutely no sense in its current workings. Mechanically speaking, there’s no need for your guy to interrupt himself to “call” his pet over. It’s not like he has to do some fancy animation to beckon to his pet.
Weapons:
Skills-
The traps are fun and I think the ability to ground target them will increase their appeal. My biggest objection is having to be limited to 3 slots when the class is clearly built around the idea of using utility to make up for a lack of damage. I think having five non-epic skills would make sense.
The spirits are fairly worthless as well. The don’t move so there’s no adjusting if the fight area changes, the buffs themselves are also week. Swiftness… this buff again? If this was quickness and increased attack rate I’d use it, but I can’t see how running around slightly faster than the already reduced combat speed is of any value. Chance of protection? Yippee. The boost to damage is useful in limited situations, but I have yet to join a group fight where I was in a fixed position and knew about it before combat began.
Oh, yes, I’ve said it once and I’ll keep saying it. Traps and Spirits need to have their own little mini action bars. Even if they shared one and you had to choose between a spirit or a trap here and there, at least they would be useable. As they are now, you are giving up much better stuff to use one, pretty much nullifying any benefit you could get from them.
Spirits are a moot point right now, anyway, because they die instantly, but, assuming they fixed that at some point…
It’s a total blowout now. Not only did we own almost everything, I heard commanders on our side giving orders to spawn-camp and other players calling to “crush their morale so they don’t even want to play” …
No, sir. I know there are other humans on the other side of those enemy pixels. I don’t like being treated that way and I know others feel the same way. After ten minutes of listening to this sickening chat, I logged off and went to play a different MMO for a while.
I like winning. I don’t even mind losing a fair fight. But this week isn’t about DB and HoD inability to compete with our population … it’s about our populations inability to let others have even a speck of fun.
Well, cheers to you for good sportsmanship and having respect for your opponents. The world could definitely use more of it(not just talking about here).
That was something I never understood in PvP games. It was particularly bad in games where high levels could kill lowbies/newbies. I’m not really sure what they hoped to gain by making people not want to play anymore, as it just kills your own game.
I don’t know what you mean, I can now use all my underwater skills as finishers…. you know, to complement all those amazing combo fields I have while swimming around.
In all seriousness: They tweaked two greatsword skills!
It’s because deep within, rangers are super-powered since, you know, rangers have learned to tame the beast(drumroll please).
I notice that my black bear responds alot better than some of my other pets. He’s pretty good about using his F2. He’s such a pal.
Only ten bullets? Why not 100. It’s only fair.
It’s because, according to JonPeters, there will be alot of SUBSTANTIAL changes, clearly since they are going to be substantial, 100 is pushing it
Well, I rather like Barrage and its cripple debuff, it works as an amazing control ability, people tend to scatter or fall back when you start raining arrows down.
But, like YumCHA said, even if you had 5 groups of 5 rangers, it would be a joke, simply because the damage is so pathetic on it
Yeah, I guess gearscore syndrome is starting to creep in from the WoW pug-elitist type crowd.
I don’t really do dungeons much in this game, so have no personal experience with it in GW2, but it’s definitely nothing new to the genre.
I played a Ranger back during the original Everquest era, so it could definitely be worse than it is here.
Necro/warlock classes have often had this problem in the genre as well. It largely comes down to people not understanding the mechanics of the other classes, and hearsay leading them to believe the classes are worthless without any actual knowledge.
