Technically, if you keep your crafting levelled up to where you can make stuff for your level, you can make use of the crafted gear. But, it would take so much farming/gathering of ore, etc., to get to that point. Either that or you’d have to buy a bunch of it off the TP.

If it’s your first character and you are just starting out, you probably aren’t going to be able to craft stuff to wear as you level up. This is largely because you level so fast in this game, that you level faster than you can farm mats for your crafts.

asura have superior animations, often being very acrobatic, it is very fun.

dont do a sylvari female, they have this really annoying quote “this rose has thorns, and here they are!” which grates on the mind very quickly ^^

Haha, well, I think all of the races have some annoying quote that gets repeated over and over and will annoy you. So, I wouldn’t let them be a determining factor.

I do love the Asura flip-dodges and stuff though.

My ranger is a human, and for the most part the racial abilities are pretty underwhelming. They are useable, but not particularly enticing. I think that goes for most of the racial abilities in the game though. Norn probably have the most “flavor” with their shape-shifting and such.

Really, though, the main differences are simply armor appearances. Each race looks different in the same armor set. So, I’d just browse some photos and find the aesthetics you like.

Stealth needs to drop on damage

Like other people mentioned, we just need to see damage numbers pop up when we hit a stealthed target. But, I don’t think damage should break stealth.

It’s pretty dumb though that you get no indication when you actually hit them. It really is the best compromise, imo(the one that makes the most logical sense, at least).

Glektor.2934

Yes, the major problems with this game can be summed up pretty easily.

1.) People not able to group with friends/guildies/spouses, etc.
2.) No rewards. Given the amount of time and effort this game takes, rewards are pretty important.

I actually thought the Toypocalpyse game was fun, but it just takes so long that I don’t really bother with it. However, if there were decent rewards from it, I probably would play it more. Or, if it were shorter(less waves maybe) with no rewards, I’d maybe play it more just for fun. But, when it’s both long and thankless, it’s just work.

If we didn’t have a massive botting problem, the number of giant gifts in game would be significant lower and the price on the TP wouldn’t be 60c for a gift, but rather around 3-4s which would also result in 200-300g for the bell instead of mere 50g.

I’m about 90% sure you shouldn’t be able to get your pet inside a keep where you yourself cannot enter. I can see it getting out via the portal doors, but I do not believe it should be able to get in through doors you do not control.

Actually, Mesmer illusions, Thieves guild, etc. all can get up on top of walls from outside, as I recall. So, the way I see it, it’s fair game until they fix NPCs in general.

I can’t count the number of times a mesmer outside has sent clones on me while I’m on a wall, or sent them up top to attack cannons, etc.

Charged Lodestone

Glektor.2934

I really hate the lodestones in this game, I’ll be honest. They are the single biggest holdback to everything. It wouldn’t be bad if you simply had to “put in the time” to farm some. But, their drop rates are absolutely horrible, and the methods/places to farm them are so incredibly limited.

I mean, you can farm these things for hours and not see a single one unless you just happen to get lucky. They really aren’t farmable, tbh. The only way you will ever get them all is to buy some(or to spend 3 years trying to get them yourself).

Either increase droprates quite a bit, or give them more/better farming spots. I think we all know how little time there is to farm charged, for instance, with the temple contesting thing, now that Orr is abandoned.

As it stands, the only people who benefit from the current system is the bots. I see bots farming the elementals and the colossus, etc. every week… And, we all know how quickly bots get banned. Same bots in the same spot farming the same path for 2-3 straight weeks after being reported.

Rapid Fire is pretty weak, doesn’t really do much damage at all. Doing the auto attack seems to do just as much damage through the duration.
The only thing it is useful for is the amount of arrows that can go through a field.
Other than that, it’s just crap.

QFT. Auto attack is technically more damage than rapid fire… depending on how far away you are. Rapid fire isn’t scary to anyone on the receiving end, at all. This isn’t even close to being a “kill shot” or burst skill. It’s main role is combo fields, applying sharpening stones, and such.

As somebody PM’d me about this. Yes I realize my score is low compared to the team as a whole. I am disappointed in it myself even. But you really don’t earn points doing the defensive portion.

Yeah, that’s absolutely a non-issue. In my achievement game(5 dolyaks one), I basically did the sniping while my teammates did the building. I did a couple upgrades/hay feeds when the items popped up near the base, but largely I just took stuff down with the rifle, while my teammates did the base formation. I wish my real weapons had the range on those guns

Needless to say, my score was like 250+ just on kills alone, while the rest of them were under 100, I think. The scoring is a joke. Just like playing a healer in PvP in MMOs, you may be doing the most important job, but it’s the most thankless.
Without the dedicated builders, you really can’t win. Even though I had 3x the points of the others, I know they contributed as much(I daresay more, since the building is alot of boring running around).

Crafting rare weapons-->mystic forge?

in Crafting

Posted by: Glektor.2934

Glektor.2934

It’s really a crap-shoot. You can spend the time farming your own mats and throwing the rares in the MF. Or you can buy the mats and throw them in the MF, and spend the time farming the gold to buy the mats…
Either way, you are farming :p Unless you do a ton of TP stock market trading.. in which case you could probably just buy everything straight up.

Really, though, you aren’t going to make a huge profit. The odds are a pretty low on rares, and exotics are fairly expensive to be smashing in the MF. It would be worth throwing 4 exotics in the MF if you didn’t need all those globs and mats for the other gifts, but since you need to save them up, it’s too costly.

Often, you could make more money by simply selling the rares(depending on the market, a rare weapon can go anywhere from 25s to 50s). But, personally, I usually throw them in the MF and hope for the RNG to smile on me.

It’s like playing the lottery, you just hope that one of those times you hit the jackpot and receive a Dusk or something worth hundreds of gold.

Longbow Ability: Snipe

in Ranger

Posted by: Glektor.2934

Glektor.2934

Personally, I’d look to adjust the #4 skill as said above and in the other thread on this same topic. This way if the target is close, you do the knock back and if the target is far away you do the long shot/snipe attack or you can do it as above where you simply charge the ability and the longer you charger the more damage it does, but they are thrown back less.

I actually kind of like that idea. If you hold it and charge it all the way, then it does a separate type of power shot, and if you don’t, then it does the basic point blank shot. Given how limited the use of point blank shot is, this would be the ideal situation. It would make #4 useable in far more situations.

It’s debatable how useful a snipe ability would be to ranger, since ours probably wouldn’t do half the damage of a warrior’s killshot, and would have twice the casting time, but it’d be a fun tool.

@Italyguy, your proposal is cool, but a crossbow doesn’t need do be overcharged so i would rather see a “more long you press much better it is” on a longbow. Anyway, having a crossbow would be really cool!

I agree, I’d rather see some type of charged, arcing shot on longbow or something.

To be fair, though, crossbows may not need to be “overcharged” but they do have a long loading time that could be factored in, so be careful what you guys ask for :p
It could be like crossbows in Mount&Blade or something, where you have to spend a couple seconds loading each shot.

No.

You seem to be mistaking “rewards and achievements” with randomly being assigned high value and low value items based on a Random Number Generator.

If person A runs the JP faster than anyone else, completes it on their very first run through without falling off they get a tiny chance at a good reward at the chest at the end.

If person B runs the JP 200 times, falls off every time and eventually hobbles through and opens the chest on their 201st time, they get that exact same chance at a good reward.

With RNG, what you get is a totally random distribution of reward. Person B is just as likely to get the awesome loot as person A.

That, surely, is the “Trophy-for-participation” mechanic at work?

I get what you are saying with the random gem rewards and RNG system. I think the RNG system in this game is way too ridiculous.

That said, I don’t have a problem with your Jumping Puzzle example.
If Player B gets the same loot chance as Player A, I’m fine with that.

The tradeoff is that while Player A may be more skilled at it, it only took them 5 minutes for that reward, whereas Player B had to spend several hours doing it. Skill vs. Time is acceptable to me, because, let’s face it, not everyone is good at certain things. So, if they are willing to plod through it, hour after hour, and eventually succeed, then there should be a reward for finally managing to overcome the obstacle. After all, they still had to win it, they just had to put in alot more practice for equal results.

So, I don’t think the JP example was a particularly good one, but I do agree about the ridiculous RNG system.

I completed this JP on my 2nd try. I feel it was too easy. Especially after the intense challenge of the Mad King one.

That said, I found it enjoyable, just way too easy. I really enjoy the jumping puzzles, overall. And, I especially like the timed ones, as they are more intense and challenging.
But, honestly, the timer on this one is a joke. You really don’t have to rush much to beat the cold timer on this one. Whereas, in the Mad King one, you had to really be on the move to keep up.

Suggestion: Have two different levels of a JP in the future. One for the people who aren’t good at them, and another that’s challenging/hard. Maybe the hard one could have a decent reward, and the easy one would simply only give you the achieve without the loot.

^On that note, the chest in this one didn’t actually have much of a reward for me(at least not yet), so it’s not like the easy mode would be missing much

Present mobs got... buffed?

Glektor.2934

Well, the things is, they want people to group up and “participate” with other people. I don’t think these presents with toys/dolls were designed to be soloed or to show how macho people are.

They were probably expecting it to work out the way the doors did for Halloween, where there always seemed to be multiple people hitting the doors at the same time. To be honest, these things are super easy when you aren’t alone.

All that aside, I play a ranger mostly, and I was able to solo the dolls. But, it wasn’t worth it at all. It takes forever to kill them all because of confusion and their protection. Constantly having to turn off my attacks and just stand there looking dumb until the debuff fades. I was mostly letting my pets do the work and just focusing on not killing myself.

Really, though, I found the dolls easier than the Toy Ventari with retaliation. At least, with the dolls, the confusion does fade and have gaps between them. The retaliation on the Ventari was basically permanent.

Good lord, people will always find something to complain about won’t they? :P

I have seen nothing BUT sportsmanship during my time in the snowball fight. Support classes turning into snowballs and putting up walls to help their team mates, heavy gunners shielding those people who have been downed…. Yesterday, no word of a lie I was carrying the present back to our base, was downed. The a scout made us invisible and rallied me, he picked up the box and started running, then dropped it for me so I could hand it in…

Absolute 100% truth.

Plus, at the end of the day achievements are called achievements because they’re achievements. You have to achieve something – Not eveyone seems to be able to complete the jumping puzzle achievement and they’re up in arms about it. Why? You have to achieve the outlined criteria to get the achievement and if you don’t then who cares? Does it really matter?

I mean I haven’t even tried to get the kill the present achievement and looking at it apparently I’m 2 out of 3 atm… without trying!! o.0

I agree with this. When I was carrying presents, I had teammates cover my back and whack the guys chasing me, every single time. And, in turn, I did the same for them when they were carrying gifts and being chased.

It was definitely alot harder to get the “Stop the Carrier” thing, due to the opposing teams covering their carriers(which was teamwork on their part as well).

All I saw, for the most part, was good sportsmanship and quality teamwork while I played. Admittedly, though, I did have some crappy teams where we didn’t capture any gifts or anything, because people just wanted to sit in the field and rack up kill counts(but this is unrelated to achieves) instead of stopping the carriers, etc.

Edit: I should note that I did all of my snowball games on Saturday, so maybe things were different on Sunday and you guys got screwed with bad players on that day.

Anyway, at this point, I’m going to be really surprised if they remove free transfers at all. They just need to make it so you can only transfer to lower populated servers, and stop letting people swarm/crowd to the upper ones.

Q: How do you get "Gift Stopper"

in Wintersday

Posted by: Glektor.2934

Glektor.2934

The best way to do this is

1. Pick scout
2. Find the enemy carrier
3. Run ahead of them in a distance
4. Charge up your #4 skill and if you did it right, he should most likely be running around your area when you are fully charged.
5. POW, you’ve hit him for like 90% of his health from a single charged attack, now just finish him off.

Thats the best way, as others tend to take too long and the carrier can drop it on his own or someone else interferes.

This is exactly how I did it. As scout, you can also use stealth to slip past the bodyguards and charge up your attack while stealthed. By the time they even see you come out of stealth you are hitting them with that super sniper shot which nearly kills them.

Example of hitting far beyond max range

in Ranger

Posted by: Glektor.2934

Glektor.2934

I’ve noticed that vertical distances can increase your range somewhat, I’m not really sure if bug or feature, but it’s kind of cool sometimes.

Arrows have “bodies”(physics/collision detection), so they often hit things beyond their supposed range because of collision contact. That said, there is some kind of strange hard-cap on how far they will hit something. After certain ranges, they just tend to stop existing physically, so, even if they touch something, it doesn’t hit.

I’d sure love to see a dev comment on how exactly ranges are factored, because it’s pretty hard to predict when your arrows will actually hit something or when it will simply say “out of range”.

or if you’re using a bow you can turn off auto targeting, clear your target, and manually adjust the level of arc, by doing -that- you can stand at waterfall/quarry in the legacy of the foe fire map and attack the blue/red keep respectively.

Guns and spells, unlike bows and our throwing axes, have a hard cap on their projectile range, IE once it hits the 1200 yard mark it despawns projectile no longer goes anywhere, arrows and thrown weapons do NOT have this issue.

Man, if only they would make it so we could manually aim our bows beyond the hard-capped distance, that’d be my dream come true. Being able to manually hit something 2,500+ units away by aiming the arrow’s path, now that’d be some fun stuff.
It’s clear based on the way arrows work and the fact that there is some soft-capping on bows, as is, that the physics are already there with arrows to manually aim.

Yeah, that’s the dream… Standing on a cliff, aiming my arrows to hit something 3,000 units away down below. Imagine how hard that would be to hit moving targets with those slow flying arrows, though.

I don’t know why this is so hard for people to see in-game, but Sleepy and Sarcasmic are right in the sense that arrows fly farther than their “max range” on bows.

This is due to the arc, as they are coming down and “fading out” they can still hit things past their max range due to the flight progression.

Come on, people, just look in-game. It’s not hard to see. Yes, we don’t know their exact “unit of distance”, but you can see easily how it compares to the distance on other skills/weapons. So, even if there is a bug with the red distance bar, and they are only flying “900 units”, it’s still going farther than the other weapons, which would only be flying “600 units”.

I don’t know what the exact max range is on shortbow and longbow, and I don’t have exact numbers, like Sarcasmic is throwing out, but they definitely go farther than their listed numbers respectively.

Now, if only you could actually arc an arrow over a wall or use terrain to increase distance, we’d be getting somewhere…

Edit: Felt I should add, the distance an arrow can hit is not infinite(obviously) based on its flight path, there is a hard cap in there. So although an arrow will strike past its max distance as it’s “falling”, there is a point where even if the arrow touches something, it will not hit and you will get the “out of range”.

Frostgorge has definitely stayed the same for my server. I farm it every day on 3 different characters, so I know that those haven’t moved since the last patch.

I can’t really comment on the other zones, I don’t go to them often enough.

Well, personally, I doubt it even is possible to get it, if no one ever has.
But, the best compilation of info I saw through a quick internet search was this article:
