Email Authentification broken - Fix when?

It looks like the email authentication is broken and does not send out emails to your email address. At least a few German users have that problem.

It broke down within the last two weeks, as I logged in fine, from another than my regular IP, two weeks ago.

When will this be fixed?
I don’t think that we should disable a security feature just to make it run from other IPs.
(and using the mobile app is no alternative for a broken feature that is supposed to work and protect the customer)

Possible preview on upcoming WvW abilities?

Dear WvW developement team,

I know you want to have some surprises left for us for future updates, but can you please make some (vague) announcement about the future of WvW abilities?
I think it is fair to assume that after the Trebuchet Mastery the Golem Mastery will eventually be reality (as all all “blueprints” are covered after that). But what about abilities that allow more defensive tactics and “utility” (like Repair Mastery, or Supply Mastery)?
Trap Mastery comes to mind, but there are currently just two traps out there. Will the trap variety be increased?
Dolyak Mastery has been mentioned a lot on the forums already with ideas concerning buffing speed boons, adding protection & regeneration or denying killers the supply gain.
Tower Defense Mastery could make the life of defenders easier, if it grants a small buff on the range of weapons, or better defense stats while fighting on walls etc.
What about Mercenary Mastery that buffs “Quaggans” allied with you (although there was a hint to remove them from Borderlands), Sentry Mastery, etc.

Are there any ideas in the pipeline of the developing team concerning ability lines that go into the directions described above?
Or will new abilities just stop after the “blueprint” masteries have run out?

Im confused about the WXP thing. I have a level 180, 60, and 6 others between level 20 and 50. What happens to these characters levels?

You will get a level 181, 61 … and so on.

As far as I can tell there will be not retroactive rewards for things we have gained so far. It did not happen when they doubled the WXP gain a few months back, the same happens now.

According to Devon more powerful siege with longer range is not power creep so its all O.K.

Did you refer to that quote from Devon Carver?

“We will continue to work on these abilities in the hopes of making them more fun and providing more variety. We are however quite set on not adding power creep, at least not much, which makes them fairly constrained. We have yet to unleash our craziest ideas.”

That sounds a bit different.

We have even less reason to defend, and that much more reason to zerg. Anet might as well remove the outer wall to the Bay Keeps and the castle. The Garrison wont have a wall for long either if the bad guys get into Cliffside/Longview with enough supply for a couple of trebs.

You’re not supposed to lose those towers, and if you do, its because of a 2v1… and in which case Garrison wasn’t going to have walls or supply left in it anyway. This at least shifts attacking Garrison/Hills (lol Bay) from “We have to spend two hours sieging down its walls and 1700 supply pool, and then five hours prying it from the cold, dead hands of its defenders!” to “We have to spend half an hour sieging down its walls and then five hours prying it from the cold, dead hands of its defenders!”

Anything that encourages people to hide in their keeps less is a good thing.

Not sure how/why this would encourage zerging anymore than before.

I think what he meant (my interpretation) is “why would I defend a tower with a small team”? Right now the only chance is to hold up the attacking force long enough for your own counterforce to arrive. With huge zergs outside, this means repairing the wall or gate with supply on the character or in the depot. (Repairing gates is difficult enough due to Mesmer clones & pets glitching inside & AoE circles hitting the back of the gate – but that’s another problem).
If a Treb shot would also drain supply from the tower this would make the job of the few people inside even more difficult. So why trying at all and risking to damage your amour, needing to be repaired and giving the enemy breaching the gates free badges, WXP & loot?

Like I said before: We need defensive abilities to counter all those offensive ones.

Golem mastery announced in 2 weeks boys and girls! We all know its coming just like we called this

I think it is pretty obvious that all in-game siege would get a mastery eventually. But that is kind of a problem, too.
There are hardly any defensive abilities that work as a counterweight to all those stronger forms of attack, especially if they involve structures (I would consider the two Guard tracks, the Mercenary ability and Siege Bunker & Supply Capacity “personal buffs”).
Points in Build, Repair & Supply Mastery hardly counter all the offensive abilities.

PS: And more offensive abilities make it even less rewarding to defend anything, which is getting the short end of the stick right now anyway.

The WXP boost is to basically everything and should significantly increase the rate at which characters gain ranks.

I am not sure if faster “ranking up” is really need, but it leaves some questions open to me:

1. Will this increase in WXP points mean that it is the developers way to counter the achievement problem with tiers so ridiculously high, that it will take decades to get close to max for a normal player?

2. Will this increase in WXP points mean that it is the developers way to counter the problem with account wide WvW ability points, as you can “level” an alternative character faster now?

3. Will there be point reset for abilities, like we had when the Arrow Carts where nerfed, because you will be able to gain “low-point-abilties” (e.g. Repair & Build) easier now?

and concerning Trebuchets

If the ability to “supply-draining effect to your basic shot” (whether it is to structures or players) adds such a big impact, where are the defensive abilities for WvW? We are lacking those, especially when you are outnumbered or in a small team.
e.g. Caravan Mastery (yaks receive increased swiftness duration; add protection, add regeneration with each swiftness boon applied; deny supply loot) or Defence Mastery (gain +200 range when fighting on a wall of a fortification; gain 1…x% health when fighting on a wall of a fortification; gain 3 sec of Invulnerability when repairing gates or walls)

There are some updates coming soon, quite soon even, that hopefully will dispel this. Say bye-bye to the Quaggan.

Why? Interacting with the NPC Quaggans is a nice event chain that severs as introduction to WvW newcomers, can provide help for capping camps if you are alone or with just two people, can contest a keep to divert attention and does provide a source of WxP.

With new prefix items coming in regularly (e.g. Settler’s, Sentinel’s as temporary ones) and the appearance of a great variety of ascended items with new and permanent prefixes (e.g. Celestial => Solaria), I really wonder why there is no ascended line of amulets, rings or earring/trinkets with the Carrion prefix.

So here is the question (more to developers than to the community):
When will those Carrions items be introduced?

(I see no reason why they should not exist, so why don’t we have them)

WXP/WvW levels Account Bound When?

I recall their response to the whole sPvP ranks being account bound because they offer no benefits in game, as it’s only a number. I also recall them saying that WvW ranks are character bound for the opposite reason, as they provide distinct bonuses in combat.

IMO, this argument is moot, as you can not play more than one character at a time anyway.

We have to keep in mind that most people don’t event want different ability sets for their different WvW characters. They just want to be able to play a variety of characters. It completely eludes me, why the WvW abilities have not been account bound from the beginning, but re-writing databases to make it that way now could be a bigger problem than we think.

I made it to the kite today on a last attempt & together with a guildie. I am really proud of the Aurora Glades server people I saw this morning, because although there were a lot of us in the puzzle, they did not repeat what Abbadon’s Mouth & Gandarra guilds did the last two weeks: Killing off players from opposing servers at choke points.
Two RoF players passed me during the puzzle and they both did not attack. I am happy for them to get to the kite unharmed.

This does not mean that I will now say: “The achievement in Obsidian Sanctum can be done is you try often enough so stop complaining.” Putting the achievement there twice (!) is still a very bad decision by the content designers and I hope we don’t see something like that a third time.

Although it is probably futile to explain to some posters here, I will make the effort.

The Obsidian Sanctum JP is NOT part of the WvW meta-game as WvW is played. Holding it does not earn you points needed to defeat the an opposing server. Therefore no world has an advantage at keeping it locked down for other players from other servers. The only reason would be to deny them access to WvW specific loot (badges, blueprints). If you think it is worth the cause, you can still set up a force at the end chest and lock down the access for players of an opposing world.

This thing is different though. The pirate cache is a bit away from the end chest. Killing people off when they emerge one by one from the menagerie area & across the dome (that’s where a team of three ganked me) is just a method of bullying players than came that far and exploiting the fact that you can pick them out one by one. This requires no skill in PvP. This is no tactical warfare in WvW. This is just a perfect spot to allow a handful of people to deny hundreds (potentially thousands) of people from two other servers a “Living World” achievement, which should be a fun event for all players.
If this would still be a cooperative game (no, it isn’t any more, developers have to take a look at their Manifesto video again), those players would let people get the cache and block access to the chest, making it clear that if you go further you will get killed.
As a few people a self centred and found a way to feel superior to others, this probably will not happen.

By neglecting the outcome of what will happen by putting the cache at this exact location, Arena.Net developers have either shown a complete misunderstanding of human behaviour, or have deliberately allowed a few morons to dictate the experience of the many. The later one could not be forgiven, as it shows a big disrespect to their customers.
For those, who are “completionists” or those who are after the Meta-Achievement, the Obsidian cache is a problem too. Not getting the JP means not getting the “complete cache” achievement, too. This means that you have no choice whether to play the dungeon or not. You have to complete it and you probably need to get an extra task achievement too. I am not sure how many non-hardcore-dungeon-runners really will go for that.

And before anyone can say: You don’t have to get the achievements or the Meta!
The Living Story updates were to supposed to fill the world with content, to make it feel alive and vibrant – to make it fun! Where is the fun in some of the decisions made for this part – especially if it is available for a limited time only?

Obsidian Sanctum for achievement, really? [merged]

This JP is something I have never done before, so now I tried to get it for the Pirates event. It is no easy puzzle, but there are ways you can retry if you mess up a jump at each new stage. This is challenging, but not impossible.

But thanks to three morons from another opposing server, there is no way to get to the cache. They cowardly killed off every person emerging from that “menagerie area”.
This has to do nothing with PvP or that WvW is competitive. Its just a way of showing that you are total idiot. Sadly, I can’t post those guild tags or names to publicly humiliate them for their cowardice.
Killing off players in sight of the cache instead of denying them the access to the chest is even worse.

This complaint is also directed at Anet developers that put the event achievement in a zone that allows player kills. In the Developers Manifesto GuildWars 2 was about community, not stealing each others loot or experience, helping out each other. This is the complete opposite and was put there not accidentally, but by choice.
Shame on the person that made that decision to reward anti-social behaviour.

After getting the history buff achievement tonight I wanted to check if it shows up in the Explorer tab of the achievements (or not, like the Speedy Reader). Checking that, I saw that I no longer have the Dive Master maxed (37/38 now).

So here is the question:
Did the Sky Pirates introduce a new diving location? (And if yes, where) Is the achievement bugged somehow (so it has nothing to do with the latest patch)?

Seeing AM being able to guard dolyaks, sentries & camps with one to four people while being able to send out 30+ zergs pretty much everywhere, I really wonder if AG & FSP should at least call a “Borderland truce”, by not attacking each other on their own Borderlands.
The system of matching EU servers right now is really not favouring even matches. ANet better find a solution to zerging & kill farming from larger forces against outmanned ones (e.g. not awarding badges & XP for the later ones at all).

I see the first people on AG quitting WvW and it makes me sad.

1) Make WxP account wide (Helps playing with more than one character)
2) Make the abilities from WxP account wide, too (see above)
3) Give defenders on walls, manning a Canon or Burning Oil pot a protection boon as long as they are using that siege weapon. Currently using Burning Oil is almost suicidal
4) Move the POI boxes a bit away from the icons on the map, so you can link them easier in chat to team mates
5) Give Caravan Guards a “moving circle of debuff”, so they can uncloak Thieves in stealth, as currently those can snipe way dolyaks far too easy (would make defending Caravans more worthwhile)
6) Fortified Walls should have a “Murder Hole” upgrade that deals increasing stacks of Bleed to enemies “camping right next to it” in a siege (perhaps at 300 range). That would require some softening up the wall /gate with a siege weapon and no World War Z rush on walls we see by massive zergs at the moment
7) You should be able to buy Letters of Commendation with Badges
8) Sentries should call out a text warning on map chat, if a large zerg (e.g. 20+) is closing in fast, as “they have spotted an army” (They are Sentries!). This would slow down zergs on the map, requiring them to send a tactical strike team ahead, if they do not want to be discovered.
9) The same should apply to Towers, Keeps and Castles/Garrisons (omitting the supply camps). This will help small population maps organize a defense against a large invading force.
10) A Tower Lord should be able to “purge” a fortification of all dead enemies for a certain amount of supply (e.g. 20 for towers, 40 for keeps), so you can prevent a stealthed Thief from rezzing a Mesmer. Again, this will help small population maps that can’t afford to have people search forever for a Thief or dead body when outnumbered.

Actually it is Ascension of Jesus, which means the more catholic states have a day off.

Playing on the AG Borderland today, I was surprised about the large zergs RS can muster and maintain over a long period of time. e.g when they tried to get Hills several times.

I posted a problem I had with Tidal Wave today in the bugs forum. I am not sure if it is a true bug or a freaky problem I had, so others might want to check it out and report back.
Problem I encountered was that Tidal Wave did no damage at all, just flashing “Missing” all the time, even when you went through small groups or “against the wall” in an cornered situation.
Confirming the bug or dismissing it as a singular event would be nice.

When I did my aquatic slayer today, I noticed that Tidal Wave (Trident/Water Magic/Skill #5) did not hit anything. I was in the lake in the SE corner of Diessa. I tried rushing through groups in open water, cornering them and bursting against a wall – all with the same result. I did not get a single hit, just “Missing” messages you usually get when dashing past foes, but not hitting them.
Is that a freaky singular encounter or a general bug after the update. Could other Elementalists please reproduce the effect or do you see no difference at all.

I think this is overdue. Why do Copper, Iron, Steel … & Orichalcum tools look the same in the inventory?
As many of us carry around three sets (Ori for high end nodes, Mithril for t5 and slightly lower and usually Steel for quick and “on the run” gatherings in low level zones – e.g when doing dailies outside the major towns), we have three identically looking picks, axes & sickles in out bags.

Even giving them a different “glow” outline would help finding the right tool to swap in/out.

We really need a Mystic Forge recipe for that. About the right amount of Basic Transmutation Stones, I’d say 50 sounds like a good number (+ the usual thing like those skill point ingredients you need to upgrade materials, 5 Philosopher Stones)

No tracert data from me, but suffering from the same stuff:
ISP: Dt. Telekom
Location: Germany
Server: Aurora Glade

No problems before last update with disconnects (except Karka event); No consistent lag, but intervals of lag spikes; Happens in open world and personal story instances. Diagnostic tools & other programs running at the same time (e.g. Firefox, Skype etc) show now problem with pings or severely reduced download bandwidth.

Please work on this problem

I can not even express how disappointed I am that cross region guesting will not be possible. ANet practically destroys the international communities that were build for seven years in GW1.
We over at GWOnline.net, who have such a community suffer already from the divide and were looking forward to some cross region guesting to close the gap again.

Vapor Form fix? Coming sometime?

Several different things to be discussed here:
1. " most useless downed skill ever?" – No. After it became instantly available after the down, it is a very good skill, especially if you have endurance left to dodge away.
2. “it will be nerfed to not heal the user” – This needs explaining to the OP. After you have used Vapor Form (once), it heals you to about half (please correct me if I am wrong here) of the health bar.
3. " accumulated downed penalty each time you fall after using Vapor Form?" – Actually this is true. Using Vapor Form three times without any means to reduce the death penalty will mean you have killed yourself (or a second Vapor Form if you already have a death penalty on you – not sure if it has to be a “yellow one”) .

Battle of Fort Trinity

I had the same problem as the OP Helnar.
After I was downed, I chose to respawn at checkpoint, which is inside Fort Trinity. By then the gate garrison had been slaughtered. There are two groups in front of the door now. Some loosely arranged Risen closer to the gate an the hive minded “zerg” group in a tight formation.
After you have killed the small, loose group, the command to close the gates should appear. If you attack the zerg, you might get downed a second time.
I guess you can avoid being downed there at all, if you stay away from the enemy zerg and flank the group to reach the gates. The NPCs will die anyway (not that you know that when you do it for the first time!).

I hope that helps others.

There were two chests there, one locked (on the right) and one open (on the left). Non of them could be opened for loot.

I think the way GW2 checks the hints is kind of bugged, which also affects the achievement for completing hints.

1. Finish Foes in PvP
>> I have done the complete PvP tutorial before entering the Heart of Mists and I have finished people in WvW. I have not unlocked the hint though. I can not remember if I ever saw the hint pop up.

>>> Solution that worked after experimenting: Kill a profession foe in the Heart of the Mists training area and close the hint at the [x].

2. Mailbox is full
>> A full mailbox does not trigger the hint, at least not when the envelope turns red. After several zonings today (with a full mailbox), the hint finally appeared. For a guildie the hint did not appear at all.

3. Pet swap F4
>> I acquired more pets (via the HoM) and swapped them with F4. The hint never appeared. The F2 hint worked, when I clicked the guard/heal button.

4. Broken Armor
>> Although my armour was broken several times, the hint to visit a Repair NPC never appeared, even when hovering over the small red shield next to my life orb or in the inventory.

I know, not very important things, but still strange and thing sthat should be fixed somehow.
