I don’t see the point of a tournament for a casual unbalanced game mode sadly…
I love WvW. But it’s not fit for competitive play like tournament.
It’s not GvG as you know it today but rather the mix of WvW and PvP. A mini RvR system where guilds replace worlds.
@STIHL I agree with your concerns about the difficulties of organizing an event like that for a guild. Like you said, just organizing guild missions is hard enough. But you know, since it will start every day at the same hour no matter what, you don’t really need to organize it if you don’t want. You just need to hop in as a player when you want and leave when you want.
Sure, if you want to get to the top of the ladder you will need a lot of organization and dedication, but if you are happy to play once a week and be at the bottom of the ladder you can do that too.
I’m just worried that it might be very boring if your opponent doesn’t show up because it’s not their raid night… An idea in progress I guess…
TLDR : Do you want a competitive and balanced WvW format where the winners could get very good reward? Then keep reading
You will never get competitive WvW in its current form
WvW is not a competitive game mode. Let it sink in. WvW is not a competitive game mode and it will never be. At least, not in its current form. There are 2 main reasons for that :
Reason #1 : It’s active all day long : There are more hours in the day where you will not be able to play than hours where you will be able to play.
Reason #2 : There are too many players. You just cannot organize all the players that will fill all the 4 maps 24/7 in order to win a match up.
To become competitive, it needs to be shrink down because right now, it’s too big.
Introducing GvGvG
Here are my proposals to bring competitiveness to the game mode.
- A day is split in 8 timezone of 3 hours.
- A new match up starts at the beginning of each timezone with new opponents
- There is only 1 map per match up and the map selected is random between the 4 we currently have
- There are 3 opponents per match up, each opponent being one single guild
- A guild can chose 1 timezone it will compete in and it will only be able to play during that timezone
- Glicko ratings are now associated to guild instead of server
What to do with WvW as we know it today?
By all mean, keep it. I think that WvW and GvG (as I describe it), can coexist and should coexist. The game need a game mode where a player can just hop in at any time to capture a few towers or kills a few enemies and that mode is WvW. It’s a fun casual mode but it’s not competitive.
To get something competitive, we need something else. My take on it is GvG. A WvW version that is reduced to a scale that players can manage and have a real impact on the final score.
Considerations
It’s a rough general idea. Of course, there would be many things to discuss, change and/or polish but I really think that it would work.
What do you think?
Coming from a semi-casual raiding guild without set raiding time and no consistent group, the boss progression for the guild has been as follow :
- 2 weeks for VG first kill, 4 weeks for reliable kill in 1-2 try
- 2 weeks for Gorseval first kill after VG first kill, 8 weeks for reliable kill
- 2 weeks first kill, 4 weeks for reliable kill
- 1 week slothasor first kill (first guild kill last night)
- 1 hour trio first kill (first guild kill last night)
- no data on Matthias
My personal progression has been a bit faster but still slow as pugging is a hit and miss process. On the other hand, I know guilds that have practice every week for 4-5 hours since raid were released months ago and still can’t down any boss.
Don’t be fooled by all those saying that you can clear both wing in 1h30 total as it’s very unlikely that it will be your reality if you are new. Last week we cleared wing 1 in 2 hours but it’s not representative of the months of struggle before that. During those months of struggle, the longest part was finding enough players to stop pugging half the raid every night… It takes a long time to form a good raiding group unless you are very lucky or have very good friends.
By the way, I have this idea for a hard puzzle that takes only 15 balloons if someone is interested
Wow, these put my JP’s to shame lol.
How do you make the clouds n such so high? Continually stacking items to reach the height you desire? My puzzles generally are only as high as the tallest single deco I have lol.
Same deal with the ones over water? stacking things outward perhaps?
I used 2 techniques
1. Like you say stacking things upward until I reached the desired height. It works but it’s not practical when you are very high.
2. The second one is to use decoration that can go downward (snow pile and fountain). For the “Golden Dragon Path” puzzle, I was making “U” with snow piles non-stop then I would remove all the decoration except 2 and I kept going like that until I got the full path.
With both technique it’s a slow process. You can figure hours to build the puzzle.
Happy building
I think that having observer could greatly improve the raid experience on many point.
What is a raid observer?
Someone that can watch the fights but is not there “physically”. The observers are not part of the 10 players doing the raid.
Why I think it could help?
1. It could be a way to quickly swap out players. If you have observers, when someone disconnect or have to go, you could simply replace the missing player by one of the observers without going through the LFG once more. The waiting time is what is really killing the raids and this might reduce it.
2. Give something to watch while your guild group is full.
3. Might help to teach/learn the fights
Thoughts?
Snakes & Ladders
The puzzle start at the mine waypoint and there is one rule : “Don’t go on the left half of the map”. The puzzle stop when you reach the sandy dunes at the very top of the guild hall.
I chose the name “Snakes & Ladder” because there are many ladders through it and it reminded me of a game I liked to play when I was very young. The snakes will be all the time you will fall…
Difficulty Warning
This one is by far the hardest jumping puzzle I ever made and is much harder than anything else you will find in the game. If you are the type of players, like me, that spent hundred of hours trying to find all the place where you could break off the map when the game got release then this puzzle is for you. Otherwise, I would suggest that you don’t waste your time.
The puzzle has been up for 4 months, hundred of players have attempted it but only 2 have succeeded :
- Larxene
- Kizuku
Note : Most of the difficulty come from finding the path as it’s more of an exploration puzzle than an execution puzzle. So, if you want to really try it, don’t watch the video.
Video
Ask me if you want to try my madness
Except for the collection that gives you the precursors, do we know what material we need to gather to get the legendary armor?
How small is the “raiding community”?
I have seen way more “raiding” guild that cannot kill any boss than raiding guild that breeze through every boss.
Here how I got into raiding.
I started to raid in February so I was pretty much in your situation. Every group would ask for insights that I didn’t have or experience that I didn’t have either so…
1. I opened metabattle in order to setup my 2 favorite class correctly : druid and tempest
2. I gathered information on the next boss I wanted to kill. That meant reading Dulfy guide and watching video until I thought that I knew the fight
3. I created my own training group for boss that I never fought before in order to assimilate the mechanics.
4. Once I got comfortable with mechanics I either formed serious group or tried to find one.
5. With time I met many people and we decided to form a guild together.
You can do it too!
If you don’t like queues, don’t play WvW on reset night.
First, thank you for answering.
I know that mechanic impact it a lot but I have also seen countless pug group that just don’t have enough DPS and would be better to practice on that immobile golem than to waste time on the real boss. We might disagree on that opinion but…
Let’s stay on topic
Still working since the patch?
Now that we have a dps training area :
What do you think should be the time to kill a golem with 10 millions HP as a group of 10 in order to meet the DPS check of each boss?
Example :
Vale guardian : 2min00sec
Gorseval : 1min40sec (big hit box golem)
Sabetha : 1 min45sec
I think it would be helpful for groups to know what they should meet.
My learning curve for gorseval phase 5 has been :
1. Get egg every single time for a few run… and being yelled at
2. Then I started to completely focus on eggs wasting like 5 whole seconds of DPS in order to properly avoid eggs
3. Then (since they fixed it), I realized I can just continue to dps, count to 2 when I see the orange circle and dodge. (yes you can dodge into other people egg without problem now)
If your group is not confortable enough with eggs they waste a lot of time at that last phase and it’s usually where everyone wipe.
(Sabetha flamewall has pretty much the same learning curve)
All they need to do is release 3-4 raid wings a year and people will be satisfied
Yup.
At the rate the “average” raider is able to kill every boss in a wing, I would say that rythm is pretty good.
Easiest
1. Bandit Trio
2. VG
3. Gorseval
4. Slothasor
5. Sabetha
6. Matthias
Hardest
Well, that’s pretty strange.
Just did gorseval this morning and someone in the team said that slick shoes no longer worked on him. I couldn’t believe him so I asked the engi in our team to CC him to see if it was working and he could only get 10% of his break bar with slick shoes…
Maybe he was not using it correctly…
When did they nerf engineer slick shoes to break gorseval bar? I just tested it today and it no longer work,
I’m stuck in a room with a big crystal and spikes under it. Anyone know what to do next?
+1 I support this
Personnally I would love to have perfect replica of every raid boss that would just be standing there so we can practice the dps checks. I would probably go out of my way to craft them if they are guild hall decorations.
/sleep?
Just kidding
If you Selfish elitists instead of logging every Monday and do the Raid three times in the row, and don’t log any more and go complain the rest of the week “THA game is dead” -“Im bored” “raids too easy” blabla black desert bla bla I quit on forum and Reddit, YOU could do the full raid at Monday once and get the remaining shards during the week helping new people getting into raids in a chill relaxed way, maybe people wouldn’t need to fake anything (or would be less surprises in your raid).
I personally don’t use chat codes, cause I want to get my own LI with my own effort even if take for ever and i got lucky some people picked me up even knowing I had low exp no eternal bla bla and taught me stuff. But right now the best way to get into raids (if dont have 9 friends that are into it) is to watch a kittening video 50 times, lie and link 5-10 LI (use common sense) and hope you dont mess up too much and reveal your true exp.
I’ve actually posted in lfg before looking for inexperienced players to teach them the raid, all I got was people who did it before but were just bored.
Strange, I introduced vale guardian to 5 new players just this morning. There are many around that want to learn and get started to raid.
If you enjoy raiding with pugs, I’m sure you have noticed that the groups will often ask you to have a certain amount of insights before inviting you. It’s all good for veteran raiders, but it excludes those that just started to raid.
Fortunately, you can use “chat link format” to link items you don’t have in the game. For example, if you type [&Agr2LQEA] in the chat, it will appear as [Legendary Insight]. Here are the first 36 legendary insights code.
- [&Agr2LQEA] -> [Legendary Insight]
- [&AgL2LQEA] -> [2 Legendary Insights]

Video of me falling countless time on my first try of katniss puzzle.
Have you completed it?
Yes, it’s easy to do once you did it once. Finding the path (solving the puzzle part) is the hard part.
I just finished a new jumping puzzle in the guild hall yesterday. Sadly, no one is able to complete it yet…
The name of this new puzzle is “Snakes and ladders”.
Anyone is up to the task?

Golden Dragon’s Trial
A jumping puzzle I created for the guild [EBAY]. A nice feature of the puzzle is that it doesn’t require any gliding to complete.
Initially it was supposed to be our Christmas puzzle. My goal when creating it was to make it feel like if we were Santa flying in the sky. I was planning to make the path 10 times as long and go everywhere in the guild hall with my path of clouds (snow) but…
Let’s just say that reality sink in : gold cost, time to build, decoration limit, etc. So I had to change plan. The puzzle stood there incomplete for 6 weeks until I finally found the golden dragon and then I found the trees.

Really great video editing! I like how the scene synchronise with the music
The Twins
A jumping puzzle in Gilded Hollow that I made for Prescribed [Rx]. The leader ask me to build a nice and easy puzzle for their guild. I’m not sure about the “easy” part as I’m really bad to judge difficulty but I hope I achieved the other objective :P
It’s called “The Twins” because the path split in 2 at some point. Initially, there was only one path but it required gliding and they wanted a way for their member without gliding to reach the top, so I created the second path.
The second path is probably a bit harder than the first one as their are some tricky jumps but it is shorter.

Floating Rocks Adventure
A jumping puzzle I created for the guild paradise [para]. It starts around the arena and go all the way up to that gigantic area at the top of the guild hall.
My idea when creating this puzzle was : “adventure”. Think like if you were that adventurer discovering this mysterious path in the branches and those floating rocks wondering : “But who put those torches there? And why are those rocks floating!?”. Then you just keep going as you are thrilled to discover what lies at the end…

Balloon Festival
The balloons puzzle I built for the guild paradise [para]. The puzzle starts and ends at a green balloon.
My idea behind this puzzle was to create something that fit in with the decor of the guild hall. I didn’t want it to look like a jumping puzzle at all. Since the market was always making me think of a festive place I decided to add balloon everywhere and that’s how the puzzle was born.

Just did Katniss puzzle and it’s really nice. I’m not so sure about the “more easy” part he’s talking about as I felt countless time trying to go up but it was worth it. If you have a chance, take the time to try his puzzle.
I’m going to upload of video of my run soon.
I’m creating this thread to post all the jumping puzzles I create in the guild halls. Anyone that would like to try them is welcomed as I love when players try my puzzles.

How to join someone else guild hall?
The easiest way to join someone else guild hall is obviously to get invited into his guild, but you can also simply join his party. Once in his party, you can join his guild hall if he is also in his guild hall. In order to join him, go to the portal to enter the guild hall from Auric Basin for Gilded Hollow or Verdant Brink for Lost Precipice. Then when you enter the portal you will see a select menu from which you can select which guild hall you want to enter. Select the right one and that’s it!
NOTE: The only way to join someone else guild hall that is not in your zone (NA / EU) is to get invited to his guild. At that point you can visit his guild hall but you won’t be in the same instance…
Want a puzzle for your hall?
I’m also for hire if you would like to have your own unique jumping puzzle in your guild hall. All the puzzles I build are different and I don’t charge anything to build them. The only thing I need is some decorations
Happy Jumping

Balloon and boulder are basic decorations at the vendor
That’s awesome. I didn’t know someone else was in the business of making jumping puzzle! I made a few myself (10 over 3 guild halls). Here are 2 of them that I have recorded yet :

Give me a call when you see me online, I will show you how to get back your decoration without resetting everything and maybe I will have the chance to try your puzzle. Or you could try one of my 10+ jumping puzzles!
I don’t think there is an API for EotM. Is there?
With the new PPK system to be introduced the abuse of killing alt chars on zombie accounts will reach new heights.
Btw, PPK will not make much of difference if at all. Especially in lower tiers.
For example, in tier 8, the total score is around 728 000 while the total kills is around 5500. The kills will not even represent 1% of the score at the end of the week…
This is really cool!
What kind of numbers you think would mean a good and successful map? Can we know how much kills and deaths / week there used to be in the alpine borders?
I had no idea the problem is this big, I play mostly on borderlands during prime time and there has been fights going on every time I play wvw, but this really shows how empty the maps are compared to EB.
Thx.
For me, a good balance would be kills / points = roughly constant on all maps. There is 260 points coming from EBG and 145 points per borderland for a total of 695 points. For the 3 borderlands together there is 3 * 145 = 435 points
Tier 1 EBG : 54347 Kills / 260 points = 209 kills per point
Tier 1 3 BL : 29242 Kills / 435 points = 67 kills per point
It’s not normal that there is such a huge gap. The 3 maps together represent nearly the double in points but have together only around 50% of the activity EBG.
If we want to have the same level of activity in the borderland maps they needs to be much smaller.
(edited by Gudradain.3892)
I wonder how those metrics are coming to fruition
It’s directly available in the API.
Thx.
Is there still something to debate?
The idea of having 3 gigantic borderland maps in each tier just doesn’t work. Maybe it would be better if there was only 1 copy of it per tier or maybe it would be better with a different and much smaller map.
I took the time to create this table that display the kills & deaths for each map and each tier in WvW (NA). The information is updated every time you refresh the page.
http://coveragewars2.com/death.php
I think the table speaks for itself : the player base in general doesn’t like the new map (or maybe even the home borderland concept)
Warning : The page will be slow to load.
