Good thing I live in good old Europe.
They should simply wield weapons of the same size as norn do. That would both fix the problem and would look funny.
I dont dislike TP baroning because they are rich, i dislike it because the game reward systems are too based around the economic style of the Items team, and not enough about game design.
the problem is the things the game are the best at, dynamic events, open world content, instances, etc, are not properly rewarded, or have weak incentives (not just talking about gold here) And while the pittance of copper from events isnt much, its really sad to see events get even less incentive for completion.
Its sad to see that common players who primarily kill stuff will have less available money, and also make less money from sales, (because the bulk of day to day materials are collected by all players) Dudes in the Tp forum even have graphs and equations showing how prices for day to day farmable goods will drop with peoples wealth.
So who wins? The people who dont earn based on drops. The gap between regular play wealth and tp mastery wealth grows, and that benefits no one but TP players. Playing the game feels less rewarding, and i have to run merchant based activities more when i want to make money, which i find boring.Hopefully the last blogs have something built in that will actually foster some type of progression or reward systems that work to incentivize people to do more interesting activities, but im not too hopeful.
I don’t like TP flipping at all. Those guys do nothing but buying and selling stuff and yet get the most gold out of it, while people who play the game how it’s meant to be played earn less and less gold. Ofcourse, you could argue that making profit out of the TP requires some sort of skill. But I think those guys ruining enough in real life, they don’t have to ruin my game-experience too.
I happily repeat myself regarding that matter.
There are waypoints like litterally one, maybe two minutes apart in every zone.
What the general F are people whining about? The only area that “needs” mounts is the WvW, and that would mess things up quite a bit since the maps are too small for that amount of a speed boost.People seriously need to rethink the “mount issue”.
Waypoints suck. And they cost money. I like money. I don’t want to spend it on traveling. And I want my chocobo.
If you don’t Like using Waypoints because it costs money, you can walk. Plenty of people do… I don’t take a WP unless I am meeting someone somewhere, and then, only because I din’t want to keep them waiting. If I am just playing with my partner… we walk…everywhere.
I don’t want to walk. I want to ride. My chocobo.
Ok, then fix for sword aa and deletion of mainhand axe, longbow and shortbow.
Deal. But the rangers have to be renamed to meleers, so noone gets confused.
Would it blow your mind to know that the concept of a Ranger isn’t all about actual range/distance?
It blows my mind that you obviously never heard about #sarcasm.
Sword AA sucks tho.
They just have to fix the townclothes (and more transmutation charges would be nice) and I’m happy.
@Thread: Keep it alive
Walk around outside a school in a swimsuit and get a visit from the FBI.
It’s a game… And you have to be atleast 12 to play this game. I think no 12 year old child will be shocked if he/she sees an adult in a bikini.
Lots of text.
I just want my chocobo. <3
Besides, I would’ve no problem with just 4 or less waypoints per map if I get to ride my chocobo then.
I hope that legendary armor, if it comes, will not look like the legendary weapons. I neither want to be a disco ball nor I want the effect of the armor interfering with my legendary weapons.
How would making it permanent stop us from getting other content? Its already been done, all they have to do is set it up once and be done with it. Just give us the new worlds when they’re done. Permanent is far better than temporary in the long run. Sure, you don’t run it all the time, but it is an available thing to do. And it is instanced, so its not like it’ll be “OMG ITS SO EMPTY DED GAME” that we hear frequently about Southsun.
I want them to evolve the SAB. If they take it down, I’m fine with that. Furthermore, it was meant as April fool hoax and I want to keep it that way.
Moreover, the SAB skins have both a good and bad reason for their rarity. The green and yellow skins are rarer, because they’re harder to get and account bound. That’s good. However, they’re also rare because some people don’t have that much free time and can’t get them in one calendar month (especially if they happened to be on holiday or lose internet access that month). That’s bad.
God forbid that there is more reward for those who play more than for those who aren’t…
kitten . a → r → s → e. kitten . No thanks, the filter is sharp enough.
It’s time to bring it back.
I miss it.
I want to play it.
Why can’t we permanently have it?
What do you want to do with it? Once you obtained all you can get, you’ll hardly, if ever, revisit the SAB.
SAB has a lot in common with 8-bit games and I think that includes the replayability.
People still play the original Mario games. They aren’t getting anything new or different from it, they just enjoy the content.
If people want to play mario games, they play mario games. If people want to play GW2, they most likely wont play SAB.
If you don’t like SAB. Just say you don’t and be done with it.
You’re in the minority.
I do like the SAB. I just don’t want to grind it as any other thing you can do in this game. Saying that I’m the minority is very cheesy.
If people want to play mario games, they play mario games. If people want to play GW2, they most likely wont play SAB.
I just bought mario for 3ds… and I play gw2 and I play SAB (also known as GW2) when it’s around. I don’t see your point.
How long will you play SAB? For more than 2 weeks? I rather want to have an update every half year than the box as permanent but irrelevant content.
Also, I’ve spent much time doing all the achievements and getting all the weapons. They’re rare. I want them to stay rare.

Just tell people Aragorn was a ranger.
Or that the ranger archetype is based around knowledge of nature, and not fighting exclusively at range.
Or that ANet mashed that so called “ranger” with the archer and created a crippled being.
New ranger pet: Chocobo. You can ride it and the F2 summons 5 more chocobos (4 for your allies and one for your pet). While you’re riding, this music plays: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlyV0IPjwq0

Rangers have sword plus offhands and gs, not sure why they would have to be deleted.
Because reasons. Sword AA sucks.
It could indeed mean a lot, but If this means gear that is even more powerful than Ascended, pretty much introducing a required grind, I’m out.
I can imagine someone is giving her a stern lecture right now in the office. Poor dev.
She should get a kitten medal. At least she actually told us something about what the devs were working on.
At least she told us that the devs are working.
What if you were just in melee and you just rallied them off a mob, res’d them or just killed the boss/mob faster?
Yeah, delete all ranged weapons (and rangers)! Power to the melee master race!

Please, always think about the game mechanics and your teammates as well. If you want to do worldbosses from max range do it in ranger only events. Otherwise I would suggest you to cooperate not to be a burden for the team.
Yeah don’t use bows! They’re like the apple for Eve. ANet gave us the weapon as temptation but you have to resist! Or so they say…
It’s very amusing to read how people say that the ranger is good, but in the same breath they say that you shouldn’t use bows. Ever. And if your pet dies it’s your fault. Yours alone.

“…the few conditions we can deal without sacrificing survivability?” Um, how do I say this nicely? Toughness and condition damage are in the same trait line, along with protection boon. Aside from that, ranger is strong in, um, range, evasion, regen, bleed stacking and combo field mechanics. Of course, strongest is kind of a foolish concept. I am sure anyone could come up with a useless fringe build that is “strongest” at (insert something here) but otherwise very weak.
The perfect example of the current ranger. Outlasting your enemy. Kite him as long as you can, so your conditions can slowly kill him. The ranger is all the time in a defensive position. Not acting but reacting and keeping those conditions applied.
Every other class can kill their opponent actively. The ranger can’t. He relies on the enemy beeing foolish and keep attacking.

Do you guys realize how silly this is? Who cares if you can’t agree on the severity of the problem? Both sides acknowledge a problem exists. Why not move the conversation back over to the Post CDI thread instead of bickering over who deserves to be at the bottom of the barrel more?
I will step away from the term “broken”. “Broken” implies that something isn’t working. The pet however does work, it’s just far from being optimal. There are a vast number of examples when the pet is suboptimal. I take it for granted that everybody knows some of these situations.
There are two major flaws with the pet:
1) The server is the one who controls the pet.
This leads to it’s clunky behavior. The pet can’t follow directly at your side, all commands you give are getting delayed. The simple reason for this is because the server, and not your client, executes the commands you’ve given.
This should not be an excuse for the awful AI, that has to be addressed too. But it would be the first and a mandatory step towards a working AI.
2) The pet holds a huge portion of our damage.
The ranger is the only class which has a handicap as classmechanic. The pet has positive aspects aswell, but they don’t make up for the huge damageloss the ranger has to pay in order to justify the existence of the pets.
An AI will never be as effective as the player will be. Besides, why should the pet do something we already do? Why can’t the pet do something else while we deal the damage?
So how could ArenaNet fix these flaws?
1) The client should control the pet; it would be way more responsive.
The only argument against this is that the client could be hacked to boost your pet.
But this would be hardly more an issue than the current hacks, which you can use to travel faster or to use noclip.
2) The ranger should get all the damage he currently loses due to his pet.
The pet should furthermore still deal 5-10% additional damage of ours.
The main purpose of the pet should not be dealing damage but supporting the ranger.
Investing points in Beastmastery should diminish the damage the ranger is doin by up to 30%. The pet gains, additionally to all the stats it’s currently gaining through beastmastery, the damage the ranger is losing.
In a nutshell: Shift the damagepatern from (70%/30%) to (100%/5%-10%). Investing 6 points in Beastmastery will shift the damage back to (70%/35%-40%). The pet’s new purpose is to support the ranger.
I will give some examples what the new supporty purpose of the pet could look like:
Bears:
- Lower their movementspeed by 20%
- Each Autoattack should knock the enemy down (for less than 0.25 seconds)
Feline:
- Increase their movementspeed by 20%
- New skill “sprint”: charge at a foe with increased movementspeed. Cripple the enemy with the next attack.
Eagle:
- F2 marks an enemy. All projectiles will hit definitely hit the target if it’s not out of range or obstructed. Furthermore, the enemy is revealed for the duration of the skill.
Raven:
- F2 commands the raven to repeatedly hit the enemy and blinding him with each hit.
Spiders:
- Each Autoattack will remove 1 stack of stackable boons or 1 (or 0.5) second of non-stacking boons.
Drakehound:
- The Drakehound is able to scent stealthed enemies and will follow them.
- F2 reveals all enemies in an AoE without them getting the revealed debuff.
Owl:
- The owl can see and attack stealthed enemies.
Wolves:
- Wolves should get some new wolf pack related skills
Moas:
- Moas should constantly buff the ranger (might per hit, fury per hit, vigor per hit, …)
Porcine:
- Porcine should constantly debuff the enemy (vuln per hit, weakness per hit, roots, cripples)
And there should be one pet which gives on demand swiftness and one which gives auras (zerg optimised pet).

I want to buy my own charrcopter. Or atleast a bicycle.
At the end of the day these dungeons must be run multiple times. Can you see yourself running molten facilty and aetherblade retreat, every day, multiple paths for tokens or money and not get fed up with the mechanics at one point? Cause that’s what happened with the aether path :P
I would do the aetherpath if it would be more rewarding.
Problems that would be solved:
Stacking in dungeons
People complained about the no-skill tactic of stacking in dungeons. That wouldn’t be possible anymore.Nope, try again. We will continue to stack.
Once again, people trying to identify a problem that doesn’t exist and offering poor solutions.
If neither you, nor your enemy could stay in one place, simply because you wont be able to walk into another players anymore, you wouldn’t be able to stack. Period. You could still hug the enemy but it wont help that much. That’s why I’ve suggsted an AI overhaul to punish players who try to just hug the enemy to death.
In addition to that: swinging a sword against a wall will cancel the skill because of the obstacle collision I’ve suggested.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
C’mon man, ‘organized zerg’ is kind of an oxymoron. Also, if you find that most zergs are well organized, then why are you suggesting gameplay mechanics to counter them? Why do you want boss encounters to require more organization?
Because at the moment, a huge zerg can’t be stopped. Defending a keep is unrewarding and it becomes even more unsatisfying if a giant meatball rolls over your defenses. As for more organized content: I want the players to do more things than just standing at one point and facerolling the keyboard.
At tequatly, some of the players could build and defend additional siege, some could get a sniper rifle with 3000+ range, so they can hit tequatl. Some others kill all the fingers.
It could be game breaking because it would make res’ing downed players difficult, bordering on impossible in some situations.
Just increase the amount of health one player can restore. Fixed.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
You collide with the wall and keep running on the spot. If there was no collision detection, you’d run through it and into the Abyss (no seriously, I once fell through the map in CoE. Not during a Fiery Rush, though.) I think what you’re really suggesting is that Fiery Rush ends when you collide with something.
In other terms, collision detection. >.>
Collision detection won’t stop the zergs, it would just limit the way players position themselves. Co-ordination is usually the opposite of what happens in zergs – There’s a handful of players who do the important stuff (turrets at Teq, Dropping siege in WvW) and everyone else just runs around and smashes things.
But I have noted that it could potentially be game-breaking. Is that what you want? Because that’s how you get ragequitters.
I don’t know what kind of players you have on your world but the zergs I participated in were, for the very most part, good organized.
Like I wrote, boss encounters have to readjusted to be less of a zergfest and damagetest but more of an organized fight. This does also apply to keeps in WvW.
And how exactly would it be gamebreaking?
I don’t see how character collision would stop PvE or WvW zergs. It would just make them spread out a bit more. Large scale zerging is already pure chaos for the average player as is, due to frame rate drops and particle effects. Moreover, I think this would be game-breaking in a few ways. Think of the implications for res’ing downed players for starters.
I want to see how you would coourdinate 100+ men who a trying to get into a tower.
Or how to you want to fight the tri-worm or tequatl if you can’t stack on his feet anymore.
Also, it’s collision detection that allows FGS rush to work in the first place. Lol.
???… If we would have proper collision detection in the game your fiery rush would stop once you hit a wall.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
If those guys from ArenaNet don’t know what to do anymore, they could do this:
Suggestion:
Simply add Charackter- and Obstacle-collision.
Impact:
If you Fiery Rush against a wall, your character would stop, because he collides with the wall. This would solve all problems with stacking and zerging simply because it wouldn’t be possible anymore.
Precautions:
Ofcourse, some things have to be tweaked, you oughtn’t be able to block paths for other players, as example. Also the bank in each city has to be tweaked, so all players can get to their own safe and events, which meant to be completed by zergs, have to be readjusted.
Problems that would be solved:
Stacking in dungeons
People complained about the no-skill tactic of stacking in dungeons. That wouldn’t be possible anymore.
Zerging in PvE
People complained about championfarming and zerging as new Metaevent-meta.
This change would solve the problem.
Zerging in WvW
Some people have complained about not being able to hold a fort against an enemy zerg of 100+ men. Well, those zergs would be really hard to coordinate with this change.
This would break every boss who needs to be killed with more than 10 men, WvW, AoE’s and a lot of other things. But it would be fun and I think it would improve the game.
Combined with an overhauled AI, this change would make stacking impossible.

So…Gimme, Gimme, Gimme is a perfectly acceptable request now?
My favorite response! “You’re dissatisfied so clearly you’re a whiny kitten who deserves nothing!”
Fact is that drop rates for these items are so extraordinarily low that you could spend your entire play time in a day trying to get one to no avail; literally zero progress toward the goal. It’s not like you got some tokens, and it takes a lot of those tokens to get the item, so eventually you will get enough tokens. You made no progress toward the goal, and theoretically, this could happen every time you play.
God forbid somebody expect to get tangible results from sinking hours of their time into something they don’t even have to be doing! I mean it’s not like Anet has a vested interested in people continuing to play the game.
+1
I nearly got my Fractal Frequenter achievement done, which is equal to around 120 runs. Atleast 100 of them where higher than lvl10. The one and only weapon I ever got was the fractal rifle.
I sat on a rock with the ranger on longbow one time. We didn’t wipe…
Clearly it was because you were a ranger using a bow instead of a warrior using a bow. You carried your group there.
I’m proud now.
One time I did a CoF2 run where an incompetent warrior sat on the rock during the assassins stage using a longbow. That left me and 3 spell casters down on the floor to take 20% more hits, and him neither giving nor receiving any boons. We wiped twice before kicking him. We finished the run effortlessly on the third try with a player who stayed on the floor taking his share of the hits, giving and receiving boons, and doing cleave damage.
I sat on a rock with the ranger on longbow one time. We didn’t wipe…
THE MOST STUPID QUOTE EVER
STOP QUOTING THAT OLD FART OF A DESCRIPTION. IT IS 100% WRONG; OUTDATED, MISLEADING, UNTRUE AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, IRRELEVANT TO TODAYS RANGER!!

This discussion is so 2013.
You, good sir, should be banned from this forums for this sentence alone.
ANet openly said they understood the community’s concerns related to the lack of permanent content. That’s why they decided to take longer breaks for story stuff to come out. The test will be when Season 2 starts…we will see then if they actually learned anything at all or not.
I remember them saying they are heavily considering expansion style content for the future and are taking in consideration if it will be payed or not.
For now it’s literally useless to point out things they already said they are trying to address in Season 2. U can start QQing again if things don’t get improved during S2..but not prior
They said they will do a season 2. Do you really think they step away from temporary additions? I honestly never read anything about them trying to deliver more “expansion-style” content. They’ll tweak some things, like they always do, but it will be still just temporary additions. The bazaar wont stay that’s for sure. So there is already one proof against your thesis.
No. Only one noble-man-like armor, only 2 good looking armors for Asuran females at all. I’m not that satisfied. Furthermore, the most armors look cool on females, but not on males and the other way around. Best example is the witch costume. Men get a I-am-the-death look at women get a look-at-my-breasts armor.
Well, giving the longbow and GS some active defence would be great (smoke fields, dodges etc Oid’s suggestions), not only would they solve a lot of ranger survival issues, but would make them fun to play again.
Hunter’s Shot
Fire an arrow that grants you stealth when it hits an enemy. Your pet gains swiftness.Point-Blank Shot
Push back your foe with a point-blank shot. The closer they are, the farther it pushes them back. That’s two defensive abilities already. Really, I don’t think this specific part is where Longbow is hurting. When they changed Hunter’s Shot, I was more thinking that it’s losing its specialized role too much, adding more defences to it.
That’s the worst argument ever. Really. Mesmers or thieves can use stealth. If you don’t hit them, you can’t stop them. Guards, warriors, engineers and eles can use some sort of stability or invulnerability. You can stealth yourself for 3 seconds but you’re not able to reposition yourself properly during that timeframe. You’re forced to swap weapons or lose damage. Beside, even if you’re able to knock someone back, they have probably a second or third gapcloser.
Don’t listen to Prysin, he just has a big heart for those filthy animals we call our “best friends”.
Seriously, Prysin is one of those guys who say that the pet isn’t broken, it just needs to be played well. I’m one of those who say it’s broken. After all, you have to decide if you consider the pet worth investing time and resources in.
(edited by HHR LostProphet.4801)
What FilterKat gently excluded was our greatest liability strength, the pet.
The reason why you can use Bearbow in open PvE is because your enemy, even the hardest bosses (tequatly and tri-worm excluded) will die anyways and you’ll hardly set yourself in danger.
The pet can be very good in dungeon, since your targets are not moving, so your pets can’t be kited. They tend, however, to die very quickly to AoE heavy bosses like subject alpha. Same applies to your frost spirit.
At last, even a thief is easier and cheesier to play in dungeons. You have to do more to achieve the same effect as other classes get. You have to compensate your pet and to prepare your buffs (like putting the frost spirit in a safe place) before you can start to fight. But like I said earlier, if you want to be effective, roll warrior. They do the same, if not more, with less punishment if they screw their combo.
And to be honest; those “educated” dungeon- or fractalgroups: You wont find them with the LFG-Tool.
@HHR
Yes i know how the class is intended to be played, so does durrzla, jcbroe, chopps, terravos, aefa, forzani, euranthien, battosai, warriorjrd and many more. We all have different playstyle. That and, there is a metric ton of stuff nobody surpasses the ranger at, no matter how hard they try or spec for it.
What you did is taking just one element of the ranger and improving it until it works.
You buff pet until it works, you buff your spirits until they work, you buff your conditioncleansing until it works properly or you buff the longbow until it works. You can’t take an element of the ranger and simply use it because it’s too bad initially.
Other classes however boost not just one aspect but multiple. A warrior can also get high regen, high condition cleansing and is still able to kill things.
And what is the ranger better in than any other class? In kiting? Hell, no other class has to kite. They simply kill their oponent. While we have to draw circles over and over again until our enemy finally dies to the few conditions we can stack on them without sacrificing our survivability.
Sure warriors are smooth to play but we have so much more style for crying out loud! With pets, spirits, traps, bows, swords, and limitless evasion… Ah, nothing compares…
What would a thief reply? 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, Stealth
But yeah, rangers are somewhat fun. As long as you don’t look for PuG groups.
The audioquality was pretty bad for the fact that they had an Audio Engine Programmer on camera.
I think all those guys from ANet should stream more often and less forced, maybe also less long, so they get more confident. They all look so stiff.
would have happened with the old system just as well. I don´t see how map instance+1 is any worse than old overflow.
With the old system, you knew atleast immediately that you’re on the wrong server.
And with the old system, only ppl from their homeland would know about the karka queen. But since all get mixed on megaservers, multiple servers knew.
So yeah, you could say that the megaservers are a poor implementation of a cool idea.
It was said often now, I’ll just repeat it: It’s not like the ranger is unusable, but it’s worse than all other classes at the moment.
^user error.
So you want to tell me that you’re one of the god chosen pro players who know what the ranger is capable of? And every other casual or average player is not allowed to raise any critisism?
If you would spend as much time with any other class as you did with the ranger, you would come out ahead of what the ranger is capable of. Just because you can beat others doesn’t mean the ranger is at a good spot. The average determines if a class is balanced or not. And the average of the ranger is definitely lower than any other class.
Albeit some incompentent and blatantly ignorant players that stubbornly refuse to play the class as intended nor listen to advice, still keeps saying pet is one big issue.
^ That is blatant ignorance. Claiming to know how the class is meant to be played.

Ok first up..in GW2 it ain’t gonna happen..secondly..why should it???? Why should Devs spend their time creating stuff that hardly anyone will use or port too except a few Rp’ers. I just don’t understand..This ISN’’T the Sims…
Need more zones/classes/weapons/races before trivial fluff like housing.
Simple. You can customize it, creating your own little property. If you look at the current example, Wildstar, you can even customize the sky or the lighning. You can also show off your farmed titles or special items. You have furthermore something else to do than just get a new armor or a new weapon. On top of that, you could also put all your characters you have in your house, so you can interact with your own characters (If ANet could make this possible).
