When I dodge, I press a single button and negate all the damage I should’ve taken. Better fix that.

Can you please stop giving such silly answers?
One singel reflect can negate all damage for several seconds for your whole team.
Your dodge just negates damage for you for one second. It does furthermore not negate dots and AoEs.

Let me give you a better one then.
The only point I agree on is the sometimes ridiculous reflect damage which should be limited imo.
Not every class has access to reflects and they’re not useful at every boss, only on certain ones. Out of those, not every can be reflected for those ridiculous amounts of damage.
Yes, reflects are powerful if used correctly, but that’s because they’re situational.
They’re better off giving the boss new melee or non-projectile attacks instead of nerfing reflects.
Btw, I want to see a reflect which stops DoTs from ticking and aoes from damaging me.

There are multiple bosses which can be rendered useless by using reflects. AC P2 endboss is one example, malrona another. Or triple golems in SE P1. Or Kholer in AC. Or the turrets at the endboss of TA up.
DoTs inflicting- or AoE creating projectiles get reflected aswell as any other projectile does.

In your infinite wisdom of what is intended and not. Where exactly are theses abilities to be used that isn’t cheesy? Or is their entire existence wrong?

It’s just ANet’s fault that there are bosses who can be completely countered by reflects and they try to fix that.

Cheesy play huh? So it’s reasonable if I share your opinion that using things as intended is cheesy? Ok…

So you say using one skill to block all or atleast a huge protion of the damage a boss is able to do is not cheesy? Ok…

Lets remove everything that has situational uses. Anything that when used correctly is beneficial. Lets just be left with damage moves and dodges, that’s it!

Don’t say that too loud. ANet might listen to you.

no damage?

Yes, I’ve seen that each AoE of malrona deals 14k damage to her. I’ve also seen bearbows dealing 35k damage while under the effect of her poison.

It’s not reasonable if you think about reflects being useless most the time now.
It is however reasonable if you want to fix cheesy play enabled by such reflects.

I never said they can’t undo. I’m saying people made that argument for Alphard. So for AC spider queen, people are making the argument that ArenaNet did it to stop stack, exploit, zerk, or whatever they think this change does. Now if ArenaNet changed it back to how it was before then everyone making the argument this was intended to stop stack and such were wrong. In the same light of how people talk about the Alphard change. These changes are undocumented so nobody knows what is or is not intended (on top of ArenaNet not saying anything about it). So at best you can only say if this change is good or bad and why. But that isn’t what you are doing, you are saying that x was changed because of y and ArenaNet intended to do this because of a,b,c reasons. That flow of logic doesn’t make sense.

That is
A) ANet being not good in analysing and stopping stacking by its core and
B) The people being stubborn and claiming a lot of things which are flawed and not elaborated.

What is this I don’t even… did you even fight this boss?

Reflects did an incredibly huge amount of damage to Malrona. A solo mesmer could literally kill this boss with just two feedbacks.

Moreover, Malrona has two attacks, one of which was never reflectable. So it’s also wrong to say that reflects prevented all damage.

The second attack is a poison which doesn’t kill you but buff your damage by what? 500%? Something like that.

Point is nobody knows so why is anyone trying to say ArenaNet intended X when it isn’t documented. Logically you can only assume why something was done. Even then people have different ideas why something was done. On top of the bias too.

As for TA spider boss. You can fight it without reflect stacked and you do just fine. Just have to dodge tbh.

That still doesn’t discard the fact that one reflect made this boss very easy and to no threat at all.

I agree that the reflect damage against this particular boss was way out of whack. But the solution is not to make all reflects useless. We’ve just moved from one bad extreme to another.

The reflect did literally no damage… It just protected you and your mates from taking any damage, making that encounter way too easy.
And I’ve already said that this change did not being the smartest one. Just the easiest.

If Alphard was intentional why was it changed back? It was changed where the bomb explodes instantly for months then recently changed back. See we will never know

Aren’t they allowed to undo things they’ve done? How should they broke Alphard’s kegs in the first place? The kegs aren’t reused anywhere else, so they had to change that intentionally.

You can still reset CoF p1 anyhow, nothing changed.

That’s ANet being du … not efficient. Like always.

No because the changes are undocumented. What you are saying is just an assumption of why this change occurred. For all I know it could be a bug or unintended (e.g. Alphard change)

And the CoF P1 change? Did they just accidentally added a door at the ritual event? Or did they try to hide something behind it? Or did they just want to stop the players resetting the aggro?

Alphard was just one boss (and most likely done intentionally), whereas the reflect changes affect multiple bosses of different types.

Actually it’s just ANet pandering (again) to the crybabies like with their genius spider queen change where they thought “a boss with melee and ranged skills? meh, lets just make it spam everything instead, to hell with actually adapting to player proximity”.

That was ANet listening to those who said “stacking is cheesy and bad!”, so they changed the spider queen. The changes to reflects should’ve also influenced the stacking.
ANet just didn’t realized that you could kill the most bosses even if stacked and without reflect before those bosses were able to seriously hurt you.

How do you know how the fight was meant to be designed?

I say that the bosses were not meant to be fighted by just stacking in front of them, putting down one reflect and kill them without them being able to hit you. The recent changes proved me right, didn’t they?

plz tell us how you know developers meant for bosses to be kited

kthx

If you stack in front of Malrona without any reflect, you’ll die instantly.
The reflect doesn’t hurt her but it negates her only damagesource outside of her highly telegraphed poison.

The projectiles are just as obviously telegraphed as the poison. As for stacking, well…

1) Stack in front on Malrona
2) Notice tell, dodge through her
3) Stack behind Malrona
4) Malrona turns around
5) Go to 1.

No kiting needed without reflects.

And? One reflect can still protect your whole party without any need to dodge or kite. That’s not how this bossfight was designed.

“Kiting” typically means running around while the boss chases you.
“Stacking” means standing on top of boss.
“Dodging” is useful in both cases, but these three things are not the same.

Same as above.

i can just dodge/evade that, without kiting her. the timing is incredibly easy to figure out. i usually run a full glass, no defense LH ele in this fight and stay entirely in melee. next?

dodging is kiting…

O.o Kiting is running around at range with a weapon so a boss can’t touch you with their attacks— like dragging a kite behind you in the park when you’re a kid. I’m talking about using evade frames and staying within range of the boss at all times. But ok, if that’s what you meant, I guess we agree.

Example: http://www.wowwiki.com/Kiting

kiting = damagemitigation
dodging = damagemitigation

So what are reflects/walls for then? Trash adds? negligable boss attacks? If that’s all it’s for then there’s no point, and we’ve just eliminated another build for guard/mesmer and quite frankly the need for either in many cases.

What’s next? Defiance being on them initially so we can’t pull them into corners? Just to solidify the uselessness of mesmers? Then get rid of Aegis so we can have the same for Guards? Lets all just play warriors and ele’s!

1) I’ve neither said that I’m happy with this change, nor that it was a wise one. But it was a reasonable one.

2) Let’s take a look at AC P2 endboss. The boss has basically just 2 different attacks and both could be reflected, which meant that your whole party could not die if you had just one well placed reflect. Same applies to the triple golems in SE P1, to Bloomhunger in FotM, Deadeye Dunwell in the Queen’s Gauntlet and many more bosses whose damage can be signifcantly reduced, if not negated, through reflects.

That’s ANet’s problem: Their bosses are too easy and they’ve fixed it. They’ve not chosen the best way, they’ve chosen the easiest one.

Good information. So I guess the question is, what is the cause of the decline in quality and attitude in pugs? When I used to pug daily everyone was friendly (back in the gw2lfg days). People were helpful. Most of my best friends in game are met that way. Now the only people I form new relationships with are on the forum or in divinty’s reach while showing off shinies. It’s weird what has happened. Have the players changed? Or are they not the same players now? When did it start to decline?

Gw2lfg was fairly unknown. I always had the feeling that all the people looking for a group on gw2lfg were somewhat experienced. The LFG Tool changed that. Often enough are ppl with ~100 AP joining my “experenced zerker only” runs, not knowing what is going on.

Well, I can only speak for EU, but I try to do CoF p1+2, SE p1+3 and AC all path every day (Haven’t played since the stealth buff for AC, so that’s gonna be fun). CoE all path are also one of my favorites. I usually PuG, sometimes with one guildy. I always look for “experienced zerker only”, “speedrun, zerker only” groups with warrs/eles/mes/guards and I have to say that, for the most part, it went pretty smooth. The only thing I really can’t get over with are the staff guards, who are spreading their useless might while I, as ele, try to stack trustworthy might.

A CoF p1 run usually lasts for 10-15 minutes (more 10 than 15).

Reflects are fine and exist in other games including MMORPGs.

What is not fine is to halve the hp of a single boss by reflecting his projectiles.

I basically agree with this. However, I’m worried that the approach taken by ANet leads more towards destroying the usefulness of reflects. I think that reflects should still work on bosses, but damage caused by reflect skills is capped at a certain amount of damage based on the player’s attributes.

It’s not the damage they want to stop. The damage is completely neglectable. It’s the fact that you can stop the hardest attacks the bosses have, which are meant to be kited, with just putting down a reflection skill for 5~10 seconds.

Well, we could take it to the next level. All bosses are bad designed, simply because their AI is too simple. All bosses are just acting, not reacting. They’re all punching bags, some of them are onehitting puniching bags (Lupicus, Liadri). But not a single boss is reacting. Like using blocks when you’re using a hardhitting attack. Or using poison when you try to heal. Or walking out of AoEs. Or using AOEs when the party is stacking. Nothing like that. That’s what GW2 misses. Reaction.

Please, stop this nonsense. They’ve nerfed QD champtrain for obvious reasons and they (overly) nerfed Queen’s Gaunlet because it was way too rewarding in the first place.
One might get the feeling that they don’t want you to farm. But on the same time they have diminishing returns which renders normal farming impossible. The dungeons also got no love since the start. They made some QoL changes to PvP and WvW but never actually expanded the gameplay. So what does ArenaNet to do?
To play the living story, obviously. But other than that, we honestly don’t know. It seems like they have no concept how to improve GW2, no direction to follow.
That’s the underlying flaw. We need a statement from ArenaNet what they want to do, in which direction they want to lead the game, so we can judge thembased on that. But claiming to know their intentions based on the recent changes is nonsense.

Is this a warrior complaining that he is weak? If you would be a proplayer, playing only against the best of the best, I could probably understand you. But this is an assertion without substance. I play warrior myself some time in PvP and I can handle even 1v2s. Ofcourse, you will probably fail with an all melee setup, but still: the warrior is the last class which can complain being too weak.

LS Season 2 didn’t even start. And it has been stated that LS Season 2 will have more permanent content. On top of that fact that it has been hinted that there will be new maps since that is where the direction of the storying is heading.

“We will add a merchant and he will stay forevaah!” Something like that?
You haven’t understood what the major part wants. They want new permanent content. They want lots of new, fun or challenging (or both) content. Not some changes in a zone. Not some reheated stuff. No tower of nightmares which is spoiling Kessex Hills. But if things will go the way you’ve forseen, the next city ANet destroyes will be destroyed forever…

As for professions. More =/= better. I think we have enough professions as is and that ArenaNet has its hands full trying to balance and perfect these professions. Adding more is just a burden. People will complain that another profession isn’t used much or viable in dungeons, WvW, or sPvP.

I would agree with you if ANet wouldn’t prove you wrong. They have less skills than GW1 had, yet the balancing isn’t even worth for a game in beta status.

What’s worse I for me is what has been done with professions, which is next to nothing. They occasional get tweaks and balance changes, which is expected, but half the time they when they fix something they break something else or don’t actually fix it.
Many bugs and dead skills/traits have been so for at least 6-12 months, sometimes longer. This might not have been as much of an issue if Anet continuously added content to the professions, since they did go out of their way to future proof it.

Things aren’t going to work perfectly in all game modes. Take the recent Mesmer changes. It was bad for PvE but for WvW or sPvP not really since those changes opened up options there.

Balance is a mess in GW2. A bloody mess. They couldn’t even balance the few skills they had pre April 15th and lots of the new traits are also worthless. They wouldn’t even have to split PvP and PvE if the AI would be more potent. But they’re all like punchbags. And that hasn’t changed one bit. Even Liadri is just a punchbag who’s able to oneshot you. Oneshot-mechanics are the compensation for missing AI.

With regards to the thread, maybe they could come up with some kind of OUTFITS for swimwear that only appear when you go underwater (like the aquabreather does). You would THINK that that would please both sides of this issue. Nothing immersion-breaking or unnatural about a bikini underwater, right? Well… until you go underwater in Frostgorge Sound…

AQUABREATHERS! THERE’S a “real” issue… they really need higher quality aquabreathers in the game… and a checkbox to conceal them, just like normal headgear.

I can understand that some see swimsuits as immersionbreaking. But I rather want to see someone fighting in frostgorge just with a bikini than no bikinis whatsoever.

Regarding Underwaterbreather, I think they should merge the breather with the normal headgear.

And I don’t think it is. I sat here and watched it go off in a direction I have little to no interest in, giving it the benefit of the doubt and hoped something would come of it.
Alas not much did, and it didn’t even begin to alleviate the major issues I have with it, so what’s the point in wasting good time and money.

In what direction is it going then? I ask this question myself but for me, it just seems like Anet is all over the place, having no direction whatsoever.

…you’re a bad ranger…
…you’re a bad ranger…

Stop it, immediately! The ranger is subpar to the warrior. Period. That doesn’t mean that the warrior always wins or that a selfclaimed proplayer is able to win the most fights as ranger vs. warriors. But it means that the warrior has to invest less skill and less effort to beat a ranger than a ranger has to invest to beat a warrior.

So your logic is “Warrior is easier to play than ranger therefore warrior is better than ranger.”, by that logic warrior is the best profession in the game because of how simple it is to play at a competent level. Got it.

Even a ranger played to its fullest potential can’t outshine the warrior who’s considered to have a cap you can’t go beyond statwise, because the warrior starts at higher levels statwise, with no flaws. The ranger on the other side starts way lower, further hindered by flaws such as relying on an AI wich ArenaNet repeatedly fails to fix.
And please don’t consider working against the flaws of a class as skillfull since you wont get anything just by compensating the lacks of the ranger.
If you invest a set amount of time to master one specific class, I can assure you, that you will be better with any other class than the ranger.

Liadri isn’t hard by any means. You can die rly quickly to her, in fact, I died a lot too. But none the less, once you’re in the second stage, you only have to survive. Liadri nearly dies to a breeze.

All I want is being able to fight her in a private instance in a map like the Nightmare Chambers.

I’d like to TRY and fight her, but despite my system being well over minimum requirements and having set both the game’s and videocard’s settings to the lowest, and while I have over 60FPS while right outside the arena, as soon as I enter the FPS goes back to close to nothing.

It doesn’t help how inconsistent the visions are. They don’t have something like an animation they do to hit like illusions, and the distance at which they will kill you is variable. Sometimes they hit me under melee range, sometimes over 600 units.

And to top it all, the fence around the area makes the camera face the floor and jump around every time I get slightly close to the border of the arena.

I don’t need people looking at me while I do it, I just want to ATTEMPT it while having at least an ice elemental’s chance in the Fissure of Woe to do it.

This needs a private instance in a low-res arena without lots of geometry all over the place, some fancy FPS-eating floor and camera-boggling borders.

If your PC isn’t able to maintain acceptable fps, you might consider buying a new one. This wont help you now but GW2 is already extremely low-end optimised.
On a side not: try it again late in the night: less players → less to load.

Rangers and Fractals, looking for tips.

The only thing I can add to the discussion is that if I run any high level fractals, I usually carry 4 different armors and all weapons with me and I’m retraiting or switching pets for nearly every boss.
Adaptable the ranger is, yes, but not outperforming any other class.

What are Rangers for?

…you’re a bad ranger…
…you’re a bad ranger…

Stop it, immediately! The ranger is subpar to the warrior. Period. That doesn’t mean that the warrior always wins or that a selfclaimed proplayer is able to win the most fights as ranger vs. warriors. But it means that the warrior has to invest less skill and less effort to beat a ranger than a ranger has to invest to beat a warrior.

Loot = Why We Play (Stop the Nerf)

They don’t “nerf loot”, they enforce a fiercely Spartan/sparse model and go around wiping out aberrations. They don’t want you to stop farming… they want you to never have done it in the first place, because farming/grinding sucks the joy out of play.

For some players.
Others enjoy getting gold and drops. I remember when I first did last year’s Queen’s Pavilion. It was a farm fest and I did it for weeks on end.
I remember when Orr had the ember farm going – the same – i spent tons of time doing it.
Also CoF P1 before dungeons were changed – I spent a huge amount of time doing that.

Looking back at my GW2 experience those two instances are the first that pop to mind when I remember my fond and good memories related to the game.
Not the Zaithan fight, not Teq 2.0, Not Liadri. But those – the good farms that were very rewarding were what I believe to be my most fond moments spend in the game.

I’m not the only player who sees things like this.
For some players just playing is enough – but the gameplay alone as I’ve said before in another thread is not enough to warrant the time investment needed to play an MMO. Players play MMOs for loot and character improvement.

I have to agree with Harper, atleast to a certain degree. The last 10% of the game (Ascended, Legendaries, Gem Shop purchases) are up to 1000% more expensive than the other 90% of the game. You don’t have to grind, or even to farm for those 90%. But if you want the 10%, you have to find the most effective way to get gold in order to obtain what you seek. That’s the point when the game turns grindy. And while I disagree with Harper regarding the fights versus early Zhaitan (The fight got nerfed veeery hard), Teq 2.0 or Liadri, those fights were great, I have to agree that farming CoF P1 all day, having 20G – 30G at the end felt more rewarding than beating Liadri one time, getting a title and a minipet.

I have to agree with the loot being subpar. But not because they stopped the QD champ train but because they failed to deliver alternatives to the current farm methods.

I’ll leave the link to a thread I’ve created regarding Eventloot:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Feedback-Event-loot-nerfed/3820952

I can’t get behind this decision. I can’t remember one single event which is worth farming because of the loot you get at the end. All in all I think ArenaNet should work on making eventfarming more desireable to compete with dungeonloot.
Reducing the current abysmal poor loot is definitely the wrong way.

Sex sells. Everybody knows that. That’s the reason why the women in this game can have so abnormal big breasts and booties. So why don’t add swimsuits and bikinis? They could make so much money.

That isn’t new by any means. They collect about pretty much everything we do. Where we are in which zone, how many fps we have, how much memory gw2.exe is using, which graphic setting we use. And also how much damage we do. This is a good way to track the consequences of changes but they wont be able to determine the causes of these consequences. They have to find the causes themselves, which they often fail to do. Or they aren’t able to fix the issues.

All in all, their datamining isn’t bad, in fact, it helps to determine bugs or malfunctions.
But if they aren’t able to reliably determine the cause of those bugs, which they aren’t currently, atleast in my mind, all their datamining wont mean much.
