Unlimited Gathering Tools - Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Highchu.3806

The unlimited gathering tools are temporarily back on the TP and are they really worth it? 1000 gems / $12.50 US / 110g (11g per 100 gem conversion) is pretty steep especially if you decide to get all 3. I gather regularly and at most I might need to replace my tools once a week. The only real reason I can see for buying one is for the look and convenience, but its not like you won’t be regularly visit a merchant anyways. Are we just paying for that extra animation or is it it actually worth it in the long run?

Just in case you didn’t know:
“The banner only revives when it is first summoned. Players can be revived from the Downed state only, while NPCs can be revived from the Defeated state.”

If you are trying to revive dead players it will not work. It can sometimes fail to revive, but I’ve only ever had that be an issue when trying to revive large groups of NPCs or players in WvW. You might want to submit a bug report if it becomes a reoccurring problem.

Non warrior-ish armor

It can also depend on what your race is so just take a look at the armor gallery and see what you like. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_male_heavy_armor

From the looks of it the least protective sets are:
- Twilight Arbor
- Durmand Priory
- Draconic
- Aetherblade
- Braham’s
- Flamewrath
- Zodiac

In my opinion the only sets that really seem “roguish” would be the Order of Whispers and Twilight Armor. Both of which have a more leathery look to them. You can also try mixing and matching different skins if you have them.

Which Runes should I be using?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Either should be fine. If you are still using the GS and not Axe/Axe you are most likely running 6/5/0/0/3 which would benefit more from Strength. If you do ever change to a different weapon set I think Scholars would be a more versatile choice. You might also want to consider “Rune of Hoelbrak” if you want to bring it into WvW/PvP, but you’d still be squishy as a Berserker.

The only place you find hammer warriors are in WvW/PvP. Its terrible in PvE since the CC is useless against defiance. If you are a WvW/PvP player the hammer is still a must have. It just got nerfed again with everyone complaining about it so I don’t see it ever getting buffed.

Temple Status?

Has anyone figured out a new way to keep track of the status for Temples and Dungeons? The megaservers killed http://us.gw2stuff.com/en and http://gw2state.com/temples.html. This has made it incredibly difficult if not impossible to figure out when a temple is ready and finding a zerg running it.

Cavalier/Knight/Soldier + Berserker Trinkets

What armor prefix goes best with a full set of Berserker trinkets + weapons? I’m planning to make an ascended set solely for WvW/PvP and if possible I’d like to make a complete set without mixing different pieces. I’m planning to go with power builds like Hambow/GS/Skullcrack so I’m leaning towards full Cavalier for the higher Crit % and relying on my trinkets/Sigil of Intelligence to cover the Crit Chance. Also, what are the best runes to now? I’ve heard alot of good things about Strength/Hoelbrak for might stacking. With the nerf to Lyssa I’m guessing its really not worth choosing.

Well most of the wealthy players earn their gold by playing the TP (flipping items) or farming the champ trains/dungeons. Alternatively you can get gold if you spend real $ on gems and convert to gold. Theres also the incredibly low chance of coming across a precursor which could be sold anywhere from 200-900g.

Making the Switch: PVP to PVE build

in Warrior

Highchu.3806

Not sure what your current stat set is, but for PvE its basically full Berserker or GTFO. Any kind of “tanky” build would be a loss in potential DPS and as long as you dodge properly you won’t really need that extra toughness. I’d recommend you check out Nike’s video for the new PvE meta builds.

Divinity runes any good?

in Warrior

Highchu.3806

Are Divinity runes a good alternative to Scholars on a Berserker armor set? Right now I’m using a full set of Scholar on my Ascended Berserker set and I’d like to give it a bit more viability to use in WvW/PvP as well. I know it won’t be as specialized as true defensive/utility rune sets like Melandru/Lyssa/Soldier’s, but at the same time it won’t cut into my dps as badly for PvE. I’m just wondering how exactly it will change with the Ferocity update because right now Divinity offers an extra +4% crit dmg > Scholars.

The first image is the Human Cultural Tier 3 “Commander’s” Heavy Set
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_cultural_armor

Fortunately for you human females (in my opinion) have some of the best looking heavy armor sets. If you are just going for a cosmetic look choose whatever set you like and transmute it. My personal favorites being T3 Cultural / Ascended / Arah

If you don’t have enough gold to purchase skins using gems or the cultural sets (T3 is very expensive) you will probably need to start with a dungeon set based on the desired stats. Being a warrior your best bet for PvE is “Berserker”. I’d recommend starting with the CoF set since it looks kitten and its beginner friendly to farm P1/2.

two sigils

I think they should work independently since one removes and the other transfers. You can’t have 2 on crit buffing sigils though (Bloodlust+Perception) at the same time as you’ll only receive one or the other.

That is not how they work right now. Anything with a cooldown shares the same timer so if one sigil goes on cooldown they all go on cooldown. Bloodlust and Perception are on kill not on crit.

Ah thats right my mistake. With the new update are they removing the shared internal cooldowns and making them independent?

Power vs Precision infusions post patch

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Honestly having the Power/Precision infusions don’t make that big a difference. If this is mainly for Fractals the plain +5 AR is fine. The Mystic Forge infusions are ridiculously overpriced to make so unless you have plenty of gold its not worth it. Same goes for the WvW infusions at 5 laurels each which would be better spent on the Ascended earrings/amulet if you don’t yet have them. Though to answer your question I’d probably just stick with Precision since it scales a bit better than power, but the difference is negligible.

Current greatsword berserker pve build

Highchu.3806

I’m not sure if it’s consider the “best” PvE GS Berserker build, but the (30/25/0/0/15) is one of the more popular builds going around. A basic full Berserker + Scholar rune setup with “For Great Justice” + “Banner of Discipline/Strength” for team support. For traits you definitely want “Slashing Power” + “Forceful Greatsword” while using the GS and combined with “Berserker’s Power” it has great Hundred Blades burst. If you don’t want to use an alternate dual wield set you can swap out “Dual Wielding” -> “Great Fortitude” for a little extra survivability.

WvW build recommendations?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

I’m not a big WvW players so I typically just use my PvE berserker build (30/25/0/0/15) with some trait swapping. Now that they will be implementing free respecs without visiting a trainer I’m more interested in trying out some dedicated builds. Any recommendations on some good Power builds that would work with a mostly/full Berserker setup? I’d also be interested in any fun Hammer builds. The only ones I can seem to find are different variations of the Shout Heal Support.

I'm confused what weapon to use..@.@

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

I’d only stick with using the Hammer if you are only playing PvP/WvW. Its kind of useless in PvE/Dungeons since CC doesn’t work against boss defiance and you’ll lose out on the damage of “Merciless Hammer”. You would also be rarely using “Staggering Blow” with its AoE pushback that will spread enemies and kitten off teammates.

I still recommend you go and get a Greatsword. Its really a must have for every warrior with its high dps and mobility making it a great all around weapon choice. The rest of the weapon sets are situational, but if you have the time and money its worth it to have them all.

Mainhand:
Axe – Strong autoattack + burst. In my opinion the best choice.

Mace – Mainly used for Skullcrack (stun) builds as its a bit slow for PvE.

Sword – Good for mobility and condition application. Weak in PvE at least until condition stacking becomes relevant outside of PvP.

Offhand:
Axe – Additional AoE and fury stacking. Less utility if you’re already using mainhand Axe since the autoattack is generally better than “Whirling Axe” (5). There are some good Axe/Axe builds for those that prefer dual wielding over the GS.

Mace – Additional Vulnerability stackings and a AoE strip knockdown. Pretty fun and it functions like a mini hammer.

Sword – Similar to the shield with “Riposte” (5) block. The torment is nice, but knowing when to “Rip” can be tricky.

Warhorn – Lots of team utility. Great for Fractals and WvW where extra condition removal and swiftness can really help out.

Shield – When you need that extra boost in defense. Generally won’t need it, but its nice to have in certain situations.

Ranged:
Longbow – Generally a better choice over the Rifle. Use it when you need to keep some distance and still want to deal AoE damage.

Rifle – Better single target damage over the Bow. Still there are very few situations where it would be more preferable over the Bow. Though with “Arcing Shot” getting nerfed this may change.

Taking WvW warrior in dungeons...

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

It can be done, but you will be a burden on the rest of the team. Most group want full zerker in order to quickly burn down foes before they can deal alot of damage. With that setup you won’t be doing much good and will end up dragging out fights unnecessarily. Its probably okay if its just temporary while you try and earn the necessary tokens to get full zerk, but you want to swap out asap. If you do plan to use your current build you should at least change out the weapons. Hammer is terrible in PvE since most of the CC is useless against bosses and the AoE knockdown (4) will spread and kitten off your party.
With the upcoming Ferocity changes there will be an across the board dps nerfs for any class using Crit Dmg % so groups will most likely become more demanding of optimal setups.

What class would fit me?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Its been a couple years since I last played WoW, but if I remember correctly DK’s felt more like a hybrid class of warlock+warrior which is hard to find in a single profession in GW2. Since your skill bar is limited to (5 weapon/3 Utility/1 Elite) skills your build needs to be more focused. You will have more options depending on which utility skills you choose and what weapons you are using which have different skills depending on the profession.

Unfortunately though if you want something with a focus on melee and “tankyness” your only options are pretty much Warrior or Guardian. Warriors in GW2 are basically the traditional mmo warriors. Get up close and kill quickly relying purely on our large health pool and toughness to get by. We also have some of the best team buffs available with our Banners and shouts making us highly desirable in group play.

Guardians are basically Paladins with less health than warriors, but more team protection and defensive utility. I haven’t really played very much of the Guardians, but they function in a similar manner.

Lastly if you just want the condition and deathly feel of DK’s the closest you can get is with Necromancers which are pretty much Warlocks. They have variety of condition skills/minions. They aren’t built for tanking unless using Deathshroud or using minions as meat shields, but its all temporary. Just keep in mind they are a very selfish profession offering little to nothing in group support focusing only on spreading conditions and dealing damage. Not a very desirable class in PvE/Dungeons as conditions are capped at 25 stacks on enemies, but can be very good in WvW zerg gameplay.

I recommend you just check out the wiki and read up on each professions and their skills to see what suits you best.

Unresponsive Melee Minions

I just recently started up a Necromancer and I’ve noticed my melee minions (Shadow Fiend + Flesh Golem) becoming less and less responsive as I level up. 90% of the time they will not attack anything unless I manually activate their abilities. At best one might attack if I’m being attacked directly, but rarely ever both. Is this a common issue or is it a new bug from the recent patches?

I’m not sure I fully understand. Isn’t the whole point of this patch an attempt to put Berserker builds in line with condition builds? If I’m understanding this correctly the change to Ferocity impacts full Berserker builds the least compared to semi-dps/tanky builds. If this change only makes Berserker builds even more mandatory doesn’t that go against the intended purpose?

Will "Berserker" be viable post patch?

Highchu.3806

This looks to be the first major update since I started playing around 2 months ago and if possible I’d like to get an idea of what direction the new builds may be headed before I continue with my Ascended crafting. Up until now I’ve been running full Berserker like most others and if Critical Damage is taking a nerf of supposedly 10% (some saying its more like 20-30%) will there even be a point to Berserker gear anymore? If they are trying to make the transition from pure DPS (Precision/Crit dmg) to Condition or balanced builds that aren’t dependent Crit Dmg % at what point does it stop being useful? Given that the warrior is my only character atm, I’m used to sticking with only a single prefix for the entire set (Gear/Weapons/Trinkets). Right now if I’m not stacking mostly/full Berserker the Crit Dmg % just doesn’t seem high enough to really be worthwhile. What I’m most worried about is that all the Ascended Berserker gear that I’ve accumulated be made useless in a transition way from the Berserker playstyle.

WvW Banner/Vigor build

Highchu.3806

Since you are going for a team support build with higher survivability you can try going Hammer over Greatsword for the increased CC. Having only 10 in Arms and no Strength you lose out on “Forceful Greatsword” and “Slashing Power” so you won’t be getting the most out of it. If you invested more heavily into Defense instead you can get more value with “Shield Master” and “Merciless Hammer”.

Why so few hammer warriors?

I’ve mained a Greatsword since I hit 80 and was thinking about getting back into the hammer again. Everyone says GS is the way to go and nowadays I almost never see any hammer warriors outside of WvW zergs. It seems like it would be good in PvE/Dungeons with with all its AoE and CC. What are the turnoffs exactly? Is it just because it has longer cooldowns?

Best Sigil/Infusions for Ascended Greatsword?

I just finished making a “Zojja’s Claymore” for my Berserker warrior and I need suggestions on what Sigils and Infusions I should be using for PvE/Dungeons/Fractals.

My alternate weapon set is a (Axe + Superior Bloodlust / Warhorn + Superior Energy). Would it be too much to put another Bloodlust on my main or should I use something else like (Force/Night/Perception) and just swap to it after building up the 25 stacks? Lastly should I go with the (Power or Precision) offensive infusions as a Berserker? I know that extra +5 / +5 won’t make a big difference, but I’d like to be as optimal as possible.

GS DPS Warrior Build

I think you would still be much better off with the 30/25/0/0/15 build. With 30 in Strength you can get “Berserker’s Power” for that extra 15% dmg boost with full adrenaline. Tactics seems like a waste unless you go 15 for “Empower Allies”.

As for skills “Healing Signet” > “Healing Surge” in most situations and I don’t think you really need “On My Mark” when you already have “Rending Strikes”. Unless you really need “Endure Pain” for the added survivability stick with “Signet of Fury/Might”.

I’ve tried using some Knights accessories instead, but I’m wondering if Soldiers would be better with the added Vitality over Precision. Anyone have recommendations on ways to better keep up with weapons and gear while leveling? I only recently started playing and am currently using a lvl 36 Charr Warrior with a full set of T1 Cultural armor. Up until reaching 35 I had alot of trouble maintaining a good set of gear and ended up using the Oldgate set until lvl 30 because I was unable to find anything better.
