rifle or bow in PuGs

Most of the time you wouldn’t need to bring a ranged weapon, but if you did the general consensus is (Bow>Rifle). The utility is better and its just all around more useful than the rifle. Dealing ranged damage is pretty low to begin with so whichever has a higher AA dps doesn’t make much of a difference. In PvE pugs you’ll be dealing with trash mobs so the LB will be better with its AoE damage while the Rifle is all single target. Also, having a burst skill that doesn’t root you in place can be a big help in boss fights.

Make all shouts audible

I think it would be better if we just had clearer indications of which boons are active. Maybe adding more border effects to show important boons or just larger/floating icons. I’m not sure how many people actually listen and pay attention to shouts. Also, if you make them audible to both sides (friend/foe) it can cause confusion in groups fights as to which side cast what.

What do players do after map completion?

I figured most people just do Map Completion for the Title/Star/AP, you might actually be in the minority that enjoys it. You can always level another character and do it all over again if you want. If you like the exploration and story tryout the other races and play through their storyline. Theres always PvP/WvW which will give you something to do if thats what you’re into. Theres not much to really do in PvE outside of the usual (WB farm/Dungeons/Fractals/Dailies). It starts to get pretty stale after awhile and hopefully the new Living Story will give us more to do. It’ll probably be some time before we get a full expansion.

I do enjoy it, but I also love my current character and I would prefer to just keep playing her
What is the WB-farm you speak of?

World Bosses. Can be farmed daily for Dragonite Ore and Rare/Exotic loot. You will need the ore if you ever plan on making Ascended gear.

I just bought the “Infinite Watchknight Tonic” hoping to play around with it a bit and it only lasts for 5 mins with a 30 min “Recently Transformed” cooldown. Aren’t these items supposed to be for fun and even if its a combat tonic it doesn’t negatively affect balance in any way. I don’t see why it needs to be so long and couldn’t be brought down to ~15mins or less. It just seems unfair how long we have to wait between uses for something that only lasts 5 mins and ends on death/zoning.

The hair has never been a strong point on Charr. I think its all about the Horns and ornamental accessories. Anet releases updated hairstyles every once in awhile to sell more of the Style Kits. They are still very expensive so unless its really good looking or heavily discounted most people just stick to whatever they chose at the start. You’d also need to disable your helmet most of the time to ever see it.

Transfer Cost

Transfer costs are always higher for higher rated/population servers. I think it depends when Season 3 starts maybe around October-December like the Season 1. People might try and switch over to the winning servers so I think they most likely stay the same. Not sure if its cheaper to move to a lower ranking server though.

Condition builds aren’t optimal for PvE and mainhand Sword is hard to work with outside of Dual Sword builds. Its only really good for applying (Bleeds/Cripple/Immobilize) where the Bleeds should be covered in your average pug and I don’t see any reason to ever need to cripple/immobilize. Theres also no real point to using a Shield since stuns don’t work on boss Defiance and you never really need to block when you could just dodge/strafe for free. We already have the highest base armor+health so survivability shouldn’t be much of an issue outside of really high level fractals.

Superior Sigil of Bloodlust

As long as you have the sigil on at least 1 of your equipped weapons you will maintain the stacks. If you unequip all your Bloodlust weapons you will lose the stacks. In my opinion its a waste to put Bloodlust on two weapon sets. They are expensive and you won’t benefit from it anymore once you hit the 25 stack cap. Also, remember you can’t double up on the same stacking sigil or use two different ones at the same time. Using 2x Bloodlust (1 on Axe + 1 on Warhorn) will be treated as having only 1 sigil. Same goes for (1x Perception + 1x Bloodlust) you will only get 1 stat which I believe is the mainhand or top sigil if its a 2H.

Are you just going for the normal takedown or achieve? If you want the achieve for killing no mini-oozes you have no choice but to use the rifle or you risk cleave/aoe damage.

This is what I use and it works for the 3 or 5 gambit achievements. You just need to pop all cooldowns and burn it down as fast as you can. I’ve never had any issues using this, but I’m in full Ascended so idk how much harder it would be in Exotics.

Charr Storyline: What happens to our warband?

Once I hit 80 I never really felt the need to go back and finish my personal storyline (stopped at 73). Once we reached the point where we choose which order we want to join (Priory/Whispers/Vigil) I never really saw my warband members again which I thought would have played a bigger role than they did. Do they make an appearance again towards the end of the personal storyline or did they just fade into the background? If they do it might actually give me a reason to go back and finish it. I always wished I could bring them with me like the henchman from GW1.

How should a beginner build his warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Running full signets is fine for solo content. It can be nice to just take in all the passive buffs if you are feeling lazy or just messing around. Its just in group content (Dungeons/Fractals) where you can’t be so selfish with your skill choices and will be expected to bring part buffs (Shouts/Banners) and might get kicked if they see you with more than 3 signets.

While you are still leveling you can use whatever you find to be most effective. Most people go Greatsword early on because its so strong and still the best choice at endgame so might as well learn it early on. Rifle is pretty bad though with its only real use being WvW sniping, but it would still be better to bring a Longbow 99% of the time for AoE and control. Rifle is fine for general PvE content and probably won’t be a big deal or having it over the LB.

The most important thing to learn is proper dodging and paying attention to attack animations. Since you are only ~ level 30 its probably not a big deal now, but once you hit 80 it becomes essential. It can be a lifesaver at times and alot of people neglect learning it until later which makes it more difficult. Once you have those skills down you won’t need any addional armor/defense as you’ll be negating damage completely.

Once you hit Lvl 30 and start earning trait points you should search online for a good leveling build. I’m not really sure whats best since the new update. Just remember to gear towards full Berserker for PvE (Power/Precision/Ferocity). You don’t need to spec into the Defense line, your base health/armor is enough.

As for Melee vs. Ranged, you always want to go melee. Ranged damage on a warrior is really weak so if you prefer ranged combat you are better off playing a Ranger or caster profession. The only time you should ever really switch to a ranged weapon is if you can’t fight in melee or if its too dangerous to try.

I wouldn’t worry about feeling overwhelmed now, you will pick things up quickly and you continue playing. The warrior is probably the most beginner friendly profession and is fairly forgiving with careless mistakes. The hardest part is probably understanding the gearing system which has alot of stats and percentages, but it becomes clear once you start using it. Good luck.

Why can't we get any decent looking headgear?

in Charr

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Charr never seem to get any decent looking headgear and everything always ends up becoming a stretched out version of the original with either pieces cutout or missing entirely. Its as if they couldn’t figure out how to work around the face (muzzle/snout?) and it ends up looking cheapened. Some people might like to always see their Charrs face, but in my opinion everything is starting to look pretty similar.

Like why is our Ascended heavy visor just a plain crown and not a crowned helmet like the other races? The Heavy Armageddon Helm doesn’t get the skull faceplate like the rest. Mesmer masks (Harlequin/Phantasm/Fanged Dread) don’t extend the entire face and just cutoff at the upper jaw. Armor skins like the “Rampart Heavy Warhelm” looks like a plastic bag with a hole cut out and “Scarlets Veil” makes us look pretty ridiculous.

Ascended gear dilemma

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Its more worth it to upgrade into Ascended weapons before armor. The stat boost for Ascended vs. Exotic armor is very small and doesn’t make much difference outside of high level fractals where you want the infusion slots. The cost of max out crafting and collect the materials can be pretty expensive. I haven’t had the need to max out Artificer for staffs/scepters, but I’d assume its cheaper than how much it cost me for Weaponsmithing which was (200g+) from 0-500. The typical cost of crafting any piece of ascended gear is around (50-70g). If you are lucky you might come across an Ascended Chest in either Fractals (lvl 10+) or in WvW/PvP bonus chests. Theres still the risk of getting a bad prefix though. I’d only recommend going for Ascended once you reach endgame and really have the gold to spare.

Should I get a legendary for my engineer?

The whole point of Legendaries is to show it off and have the cool special effects. If you won’t see it as often on your Engineer don’t go for the “The Predator” which imo is one of the plainer Legendaries. Theres no other class that can really utilize the Rifle that well either. I’m not a big fan of the “Incinerator”, but all that matters is that you like it. If you ever use the Sword on your Thief you can go “Bolt” which is my personal favorite. More transferable than daggers/rifles on other professions.

Highchu.3806

It just looks very unusual. Alot of your choices are out of the ordinary and for a Condition build it looks like its trying to do too much at once. I don’t understand why you would bring Mace/Shield. It seems like an odd choice to pair with S/S, but I guess if it works thats fine. I’ve also never seen or used a Confusion build so idk how well that works with “Rune of Perplexity”.

You are already going in the direction of full condition so theres no reason to bring any Berserker gear (waste of Ferocity), maybe even switch out Rampagers and go full Rabid. Theres also no “Balanced Stance”/“Dolyak Signet” which could be a major problem. I’d prefer “Bull’s Charge” over “Stomp”/“Kick”, if you do bring two I feel like you should being traiting “Physical Training” to get the most out of it.

Can warbands ever contain non-charr?

in Charr

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

It seems unlikely, but I guess its possible that they’d accept non-charr. On the wiki is said that Warbands typically consisted of 5-15 (up to 20) members. This would mean that they are family oriented or at least fairly close knit group. Being a part of Charr culture would probably make it less acceptable to break tradition and accept outsiders. If anything they might accept someone if they proved themselves worthy on the battlefield and earn the respect of the high ranking Charr.

Still I really don’t see any race that would really fit in. Norn are typically independent or travel in small groups with other norn. They don’t need to form large groups for survival and probably don’t care about what the Charr are up to. Theres also the long standing feud between Charr vs. Humans which would carry alot of bad blood between the two races. Asura/Sylvari are too small and squishy to be of any use to the Legion.

The personal story missions is the (Green Star). The details are highlighted on the upper right hand corner of your screen and the location will be marked on the map.
As a new player you want to do the story missions when you are closer to the suggested level. As a warrior you can probably go as high as 5~10 levels above if you are skilled enough.

For starters I’d recommend picking up a Greatsword and later a Longbow as your secondary set (when you need ranged). Update your gear/weapons every 5-10 levels and for PvE you should prioritize the stats (Power/Precision/Ferocity). Warriors have a higher base health/armor so we don’t need anymore armor/defense. Just learn to dodge and pay attention to attack animations. This will be incredibly useful and important later on when you need to do dungeons ~ Level 30/35. The Warrior is the most beginner friendly profession so you should have little to no problems picking things up.

Another good way to learn mechanics is jumping right into WvW. You will be scaled up to lvl 80 (temporarily) and participate in basically a massive siege mode capturing Keeps/Towers/Camps. Just follow the zerg and do whatever the commander says (Blue Dorrito icon on map). Its a good way to earn quick experience and karma which you can spend on weapons and armor. It might even help you find a guild which makes the game alot more enjoyable.

Branching Relationships in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

While the main storyline has branching paths they are all pretty much tied together and don’t really affect anything in the end game. Its basically just to direct leveling, unlock new zones, and better understand the lore. While I think it would be fun being able to maintain dynamic relationships with NPCs it would just be too much work to implement and has so far been unseen in any mmorpg. I think alot of people hoped that Elder Scrolls Online would be something like this (closer to Skyrim), but unfortunately it just turned into another generic mmo.

Challenge Vs Payment Anamoly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

The issue with the events ties in with the Megaserver problems. Its near impossible to find an active Lyssa/Grenth Temple and a group to actually run it. I’ve pretty much given up on ever running Temples again since the patch hit. Theres also the unlock for Karka Queen which is a problem if you can’t make the time slot. If they moved it to something more frequent it might help solve the problem, but I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. The way I see it is if you really want/need the trait just buy it. It would be faster for you to just farm that few extra gold and purchase it rather than waste your time waiting for the event that may or may not come up.

assassin ritualist paragon monk dervish

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Maybe we’ll get new classes in the next expansion, but that might be awhile with the China release. I always enjoyed playing the Ritualist in GW1, I’m just not sure if they can really recapture the same unique flavor it had before. Since all our main skills are tied with weapons we probably won’t be getting to use full bars of spirits like we used to. With the current skill/trait system I’d imagine it becoming something entirely different than what we remember. Also, they would need to open Cantha back up as they don’t really fit in with the current lore.

As for the Paragon/Dervish I didn’t care much for either of those. Guardians are basically a combination of (Paragon+Monk). There may even be a little Paragon in Warriors with Shouts/Banners. Dervishes were pretty cool with the Avatar Elites, but from what I can recall they were completely unbalanced. I would love for them to bring back Scythes though. It was the main reason I would choose Dervish as my secondary profession.

I’d go with the 1st build which is a bit more balanced Some changes I’d make would be to take off 1 point from Arms and put it into Defense. Being a glass cannon build you need that extra survivability rather than a small boost to burst precision. If you can make it work I guess it won’t make that much of a difference.

Can we get trait off-specs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Its great that we can now change our traits freely whenever we want, but its still very inconvenient having to constantly reset and choose every trait we need when swapping between game modes. It can sometimes be easy to forget to change back and at times it may be too late to. I think it would be great having 1 or 2 preset trait builds to quickly and easily switch between. An option for saving armor would also be nice, but is not as important. Maybe include an (on/off) option for that for those that want to utilize it.

I tried to post this in the Suggestions forum and was unable to post a new topic.

Guardian higher dps than Warriors?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Seems highly unlikely, but theres no dps meter to really compare the two. Guardians have way more support skills and their best dps weapon (greatsword) is more utility than direct damage like on the Warrior (can’t beat 100b). They also have a much lower base health which makes them less suited for face tanking without carrying any defensive skills. Comparing equally geared/experienced players the warrior will generally have a much higher dps. I’m sure there are some really powerful Guardian builds out there, I just have yet to see one that really stands out.

Best weapon of all?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Depends on the mode and intended function. I wouldn’t say Hammer has the best damage since its main function is aoe CC and the attacks are slow and choreographed. Greatswords have good mobility and the best burst damage with 100b, but its requires CC setup for WvW/PvP (still has some bugs). Neither are perfect and in my opinion the auto on both are terrible. If it was just for damage I’d go with Greatsword for burst and Axe for sustained. For roaming or dueling I’d go Hammer purely for the CC.

Hammers just have an advantage due to its low skill requirement and high CC making it very strong against the average player. Greatswords have a much higher skillcap and an experienced/skilled player would be far more deadly than any Hammer user.

How To Tank In All Ways?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

In PvE you don’t need more than your base armor. Just be aware of attack animations, strafe, and dodge and you should have no problem. For PvE you want be running full dps (Berserker Armor/Trinkets/Weapons) as soon as possible. You can use a couple “tanky” pieces (Soldiers/Knights) in the beginning to help get the feel for it, but you don’t want to get too comfortable with it. Its only in WvW/PvP where you want to spec into Defense for extra survivability and condition removal (Dogged March+Cleansing Ire).

I want ranged warrior. [PvE]

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

There aren’t any practical ranged builds for PvE. You can carry one as your secondary set, but if you try camping Longbow/Rifle your group will not be happy about it. The damage is alot worse than melee so you should only swap to ranged if you absolutely have to. If you have to choose one go Longbow, it has AoE while the Rifle is purely single target damage. You’ll get more use out of the LB if you want to take it into PvP/WvW. No weapon sets compliment either so just take your pick of primary weapons. Just avoid mainhand Sword and Hammer for PvE.

What are rifles good for?

in Warrior

Posted by: Highchu.3806

Highchu.3806

Yea the rifle is mainly WvW sniping which isn’t even that great. Bow is still infinitely better with more utility and versatility. I got an Ascended Cavalier weapon chest awhile back and stupidly chose the rifle and I still regret it. For WvW/PvP I’d rather just bring an exotic bow or another melee weapon which would be more useful. Its fine for PvE single targeting if that all you want to do. It has nothing to help deal with groups and you will rarely ever find a use for 5 “Rifle Butt”. If I were you just avoid it all together, theres really no reason to choose it over the longbow.

After playing 30/25/0/0/15 for the longest time I’m pretty sick of Greatsword. I actually like the dual wielding playstyle so if you’re using it might as well pickup DWA. Still ~8% dmg boost is pretty good and its the best GM trait in Arms. In certain situations though it may be better to switch for (Phalanx Strength/Berserkers Power). I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I don’t really see any problem with it and if people don’t like it they don’t need to use it. If anything they should be doing something about the useless Brawlers Recovery.

Rampagers isn’t that great. If you are running a condition build it generally doesn’t require very much precision if any at all. Dire or Rabid would be a much better choice and both would offer better survivability and more condition damage.

For runes (Balthazar/Flame Legion) are weak and nobody uses them. Building around increased burning duration is pointless when we only have 2 skills that inflict burning (Fan of Fire+Combustive Shot)and it only last for a few seconds anyways. Instead of Privateer use Hoelbrak or Strength. They have better might duration and rank6 bonuses. IMO anything that summons a temporary pet is always weak and useless.

A dual Sword condition build with Krait runes would actually be viable. You should checkout Nikes PvP condition build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stnsN5ozLsg

Warriors only need around ~3000 armor to have good survivability. You can go a little over, but 3700 is overkill and unncessary. Theres also no point in stacking all precision and have no crit damage. Cut back and add more ferocity, if crit chance becomes too low use the maintenance oils or add “Sigil of Intelligence” for guaranteed crits on swap. You should also change out your weapons+trinkets for full Berserker to improve damage.

Build wise you seem to be going in the direction of the Frontline Shout Healer. If thats what you’re going for you should have more than 1 shout to make better use of “Vigorous Shouts”. Combine this with “Superior Rune of the Trooper” for additional condition removal with shouts. Other alternatives being “Superior Rune of Melandru/Hoelbrak” for reduced condition duration. I’d also swap out “Spiked Armor” for “Cleansing Ire” or “Defy Pain” (synergy with “Desperate Power”).

“Ascended Defenders Chests” offer the prefixes (Cavalier/Knights/Settlers/Sentinel/Celestial/Shaman).

Settlers/Celestial/Shaman are bad for warriors. We have no use for Healing Power and we don’t benefit very well from the stat spread of Celestial. Sentinel might be an okay alternative to Soldiers, but I’d still go with Soldiers if I had the choice.

The only two of any real use for Warriors are:
Cavalier (Toughness +Power+Ferosity)
Knights (Toughness+Power+Precision)

Whichever you choose depends on what kind of build you are running. I think Knights is the safer choice since its always easier to make use of higher Precision over Ferosity. The Shoulders/Gloves/Feet offer the lowest stats so either way it shouldn’t make a big difference.

The only builds you really missed were the (4/6/0/4/0) Empower Allies:

Greatsword EA

There has never been alot of build variety for PvE, the current meta is either GS or Axe/X built around (Berserker Power/Empower Allies/Phalanx Strength). Whatever you choose to run depends on personal preference and your group needs. As long as you are running the proper gear the difference in DPS shouldn’t be a big deal.

(6/5/0/0/3) still has top dps and according to Nike’s chart its just behind (6/6/0/2/0)

Looking for an action-packed profession!

Every class has its upsides, but experience and understanding with your class makes the biggest difference. Once you’ve read the profession bios you should have a general idea of what you want to play. Also, depending on which game mode can make a big difference. Choosing one that is “action-packed” is very broad and depends on what you are into.

If you just want the challenge I think the professions with the highest learning curves are: Engineer/Elementalist/Thief. Just level and test out each class to ~20/30 to see if you like it.

Rune of Strength - Can we expect a nerf?

So because this rune is good its overpowered ? Are we really supposed to use garbage runes? All classes have access to those runes I don’t see how it can be overpowered.
Maybe cleric gear is OP? Heals too much lawl.

This is the problem, there shouldn’t be such a disconnect between viable choices. Everything is either incredibly strong or complete garbage. Unlike every other rune Strength works on pretty much every profession/build/game mode. At least before we had a couple decent options for each mode. If we have 1 that does amazingly well across the board it makes everything else redundant.

Probably the best rune available now that Lyssa got nerfed into oblivion. Whether its overpowered or not its starting to become a problem as its further diminishing our already small diversity in gear choices. In my opinion its a little too strong and compared to the rest of our options (even Hoelbrak) its really a no brainer that its just way better. Some players argue that its balanced and that every profession can use it. Thats would be fine if it didn’t seem like thats all anyone is using. Being uncraftable and overpriced (14g each/~70g set) makes it incredibly difficult for the average player to acquire it and the prices are actually going up. Is Anet planning to do something about this?

Viable PvE Longbow Build?

For Warrior PvE:
Berserker > Everything
Power > Condition
Melee > Ranged

Both the Longbow and Sword/Warhorn are utility sets and in my opinion you should only be carrying 1 or the other and never both. Ranged weapons deal alot less damage than Melee and should only be swapped to when you need to maintain distance or recover health while still dealing some damage. The Sword/Warhorn has nice utility, but its not something you want to fight with. Theres no real reason to use mainhand sword in PvE unless you want the added mobility.

For your primary you are better off with either a Greatsword or Axe/X which would deal the most damage. Both of which really need Power builds to work .You never want to use the Hammer since the CC is wasted on champions. If you have one it would go nicely with your LB for Hambow in PvP/WvW.

You can maybe try a build like this and see if it works for you.

The only traits we have that affect LB is “Stronger Bowstrings” + “Burning Arrows” in Tactics. SB probably wouldn’t be needed so you can replace that with “Empower”.
