You should take a look at the Dulfy dye gallery to compare different color shades: http://dulfy.net/2013/12/24/gw2-dye-gallery/
I’d recommend:
Royal Blue / Blue Sky
Red / Blood
White / Celestial
Black / Pitch / Iron
Lemonade / Banana
1) Minions have a tendency of not attackING/getting stuck/not following, but from what I hear they don’t wander off as much as they used to. They are okay in PvP where the problems aren’t as apparent, but in PvE I personally find them too troublesome to use. I don’t know about pets since I hear Rangers have alot of problems so I never made one.
2) Mostof the Queensdale champions have been converted to Veterans which killed it. The only one left is the Frostgorge Sound train which also had some major changes.
They lowered the drop rates of gold+Bloodstone dust from champ bags and turned the (Fish/Kodan/Norn) into a separate event on a ~20 min timer.
The new rotation is:
2-3 cycles of (Wurm/Drake/Troll) and (Fish/Kodan/Norn) event on respawn.
3) I only WvW casually, but from what I can tell theres been any major changes. I only started playing maybe 6 months back so idk how if differs from before then
4) The April 15th Feature Pack was the most major update. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/April_2014_Feature_Pack
For more information you should probably go over the patch notes from when you left. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates
At the earlier levels theres not alot of armor variety to work with. Its not until around 60+ that unique skins will become more available. If you are still leveling its best to just stick with the gear you can buy from the Quest vendors or off the Trading Post. You can also craft gear which is probably going to be hard if thats your first character since you won’t really have the gold or materials to level it.
I’d recommend you just tough it out with regular gear until you hit 80 and start running Dungeons for tokens which you can trade in for weapons/armor. It would be best to start with Citadel of Flame (Path 1+2) which is the most beginner friendly. Once you have enough tokens trade them in for Berserker (Power/Precision/Ferocity) gear which is what you want for PvE.
Thats the “Look Behind” keybind. To set that you need to go into
(Options → Control Options → Camera → Look Behind) and assign a key.
You have a few different options depending on how far you are willing to go.

(Ctrl+Right Click) only affects Auto-attack for skills which I assume isn’t what you’re asking for. As far as I know you can’t toggle auto-targeting on/off without going into the options and changing it manually each time. If someone does know a way I’d be interested as well since I prefer it off for melee and on for ranged.

I like to use Condition builds for the added survivability. These are the two that I switch between, but there are many variations so see what works for you.

I’m assuming you are looking for WvW builds. I wouldn’t recommend using mainhand Sword unless its with a (Sword/Sword) condition build. Theres no real synergy with Sword/Shield in a Power build unless all you want to do is tank and thats it. Mainhand Axe has much better dps and you can also try Mace for a Skullcrack build, but I haven’t used/seen very many of those in WvW lately so idk if its still worth getting into. If you are still intent on using the Sword its a good offhand alternative to Shield. Try out some Axe/Shield or Axe/Sword builds which are still pretty popular right now. There are many different variations so see what works for you and tweak it to your liking.
Axe/Shield + Greatsword
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJEQNAneRjMdU2ZZIehwJaAmgCdnPBfwx0OAU+EfOA-T1SBABUcCAoZ/BKV/xMlgXp8LiDoQHHBA803swBIQjDBAAPIASBwkwI-w
Axe/Sword + Greatsword

Since warriors have a naturally high base armor/health we are tanky enough to survive in full Berserkers gear if you know what you’re doing. For more survivability you can change out the armor for Knights/Soldier, but of the two I’d go with Knights for the extra Precision.
With the recent nerf to Rune of Strength its no longer the top spot making Hoelbrak/Melandru a more viable choice than they were before. Both are excellent for the (-Condition Duration). Go with Hoelbrak if you want to be more offensive or Melandru to be more tanky.
These builds will also work in PvP so if you decide to try them there consider swapping out Greatsword for the Longbow and adjust the traits accordingly. Either way it should still be fine.

I’ve never seen any Necro Commanders, but you’d probably be best off using a Tanky Wellomancer build like this:
Spectral Walk + Locust Swarm should help make up for the Necros lack of mobility, but you’ll still be lacking in anti CC so you will need to be careful not to get focused down. I’m still not sure what the best combination for equipment would be since you need good survivability as a commander while maintaining decent damage for wells.
(edited by Highchu.3806)
Depending on the weapon type you can still buy some with Celestial stats like: Crystal Guardian (GS), Stardust (SB), and Shiverstone (Mace). You can’t buy Charged Quartz, but you can buy the regular Quartx Crystals off the TP for cheap.
(edited by Highchu.3806)
As far as I know Celestial gear is only obtainable through Exotic/Asended crafting or TP. Some of the Mystic Forge recipes can be chosen to be Celestial, but those can cost just as much or more than crafting.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
(edited by Highchu.3806)
The main purpose is to just have scaling armor in order to reduce/eliminate the need to constantly search for and replace armor while leveling. While it doesn’t necessarily need to be Ascended, having something along the lines of WoW Heirlooms would be beneficial. The normal strategy of using karma/crafted gear works its just troublesome and costly having to constantly swap things out.
One of the things I hate most about leveling Alts (besides the new trait system) is the search for decent gear. Most players that have already reach 80 before don’t want to do it all over again starting from scratch. Why not allow those of us that have invested the time and gold into making Ascended/Legendary gear usable for leveling our alts. It would add more value and encourage Ascended crafting. Given the high price and minor stat boost between Exotic vs. Ascended the only real reason to invest in making it would be to either look cool or run high level fractals which seemingly not very many do. It could even help close the level gap from (80s only) dungeons and allow lower level players to function at equal/near equal effectiveness if its scaled correctly.
My idea is that it would be scaled down to Rare/Exotic quality gear for gear of that level. Additional attributes will also become available as you continue to level up like:
Ascended Berserker Gear
Lvl 1-20 (Power)
Lvl 21-55 (Power/Precision)
Lvl 56-80 (Power/Precision/Ferocity)
The only issue I can think of would be how Runes/Sigils would scale and stack. At least for me I never bothered putting on any until lvl 39 for Major components which still didn’t seem like it made a big difference.
For a Terror build you’d benefit more from “Rune of the Nightmare” over “Rune of the Undead” for the increased Condition duration + extra Fear. You’d need to swap Carrion -> Rabid for the Toughness to really make use of Undead.
You can also try this more defensive Terror build. Its still not a true bunker, but combined with the high health pool + DS/Plague you can take some hits.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNArYGjc0Ucj5N83mIYoksF+gobgA4cpMJiCA-TJRHwAC3fIwpAAZZAAPBAA
The 2nd utility slot is up to personal preference:
Spectral Grasp, Spectral Wall, Flesh Wurm, Well of Corruption/Power/Darkness, and possibly Signet of Spite (Better with 6/4/0/0/4 Signet Mastery)
You need the Stun Breaker so I always carry Spectral Walk, but it can be substituted for Spectral Armor if you prefer. Flesh Wurm can act as a 2nd stun break and can be combined with Spectral Walk for stomping.
Those are all very high ranked EU WvW servers #1 Seafarer’s Rest, #3 Desolation & #5 Gandara. The highest servers typically have the most dedicated WvW communities and the longest queue times. Seeing as they are all Tier 1-2 they should all be fairly similar. Take your pick.
Berserker is the go to choice for PvE and power based WvW builds. The Karma Trinkets are limited to (Cavalier/Rabid/Magi/Soldier) which aren’t particularly useful for most professions. Rabid would be good for condition builds and Soldiers if you want surivability. Cavalier is mediocre and alot harder to work with due to the lack of Precision. I’ve never found Healing Power to be worth investing in so I wouldn’t recommend Magi. In PvE you should be focusing purely on DPS so none of these would be any good for that.
If you can make use of the Karma sets go for it, but crafting/buying Berserker would be best. I’ve never tried maxing out Jewelcrafting, but finishing the last 400-500 levels of any discipline are always the most expensive. If you can’t afford to level+craft just buy it instead. Compare prices to see if any of the named trinkets with the same stats are cheaper. Exotic is generally good enough with Ascended being only marginally better stat wise. Its only really needed for high level fractals where you want the extra infusion slots. It takes awhile to earn the required Laurels and Pristine Fractal Relics to buy them.
The only way is through PvE unlocks or purchasing with Skill Points. If you are short on skill points farm the Frostgorge Sound Champ train and they should start adding up fairly quickly. I think the new system is supposed to replace the old Training Manuals and offer players an option unlock for free rather than paying. It just ends up taking more work and skill points which is really annoying. Nothing we can do about it though.
Your home server only affects which guilds you can join and your WvW standing.
If you do want to start playing WvW I wouldn’t recommend the top 1-3 servers (Jade Quarry/Blackgate/Tarnished Coast) since they will have the longest queues and biggest zergs. Somewhere down the middle (Tier 2-5) I’d say would be the most balanced and enjoyable for more casual players. The lowest tiers will have the smallest populations so if you join those you may find yourself outmatched or underpopulated some of the time. PvE has Megaservers so outside of grouping up with guildmates you’ll be able to play with others outside of your home server in open world. PvP is regional so your home server makes no difference as far as I know.
(edited by Highchu.3806)
Minions just have a poor AI. It got a little better from before, but its still really bad. Alot of the time they will either lag behind/pull random enemies/get stuck/not attack/attack wrong targets. I try to avoid using them outside of PvP where its more trouble than its worth. They also stupidly die from any and all AoE so you have to watch out for that.
How often will these new Living World episodes be released? I only just got around to starting the 1st episode which only took about an hour to complete and I was slowly taking my time. Having only played the very end of Season 1 (Fighting Assault Knights & Killing Scarlet) I’m hoping Season 2 will help fill in some gaps. For the most part Episode 1 was fairly interesting if a bit on the short side. In the meantime I guess I’ll start working on the replay achievements, but I’d like to continue the story ASAP.

I don’t think so since the vendors only appear during Queen’s Jubilee/Festival of the Four Winds. I haven’t been inside The Crown Pavilion since S2 started so if its closed you probably can’t get it anymore.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sovereign_Weapon_Vendor
If you still need the Living World S1 rewards they can now be purchased from the Laurel Merchant, but everything is insanely expensive (25 laurels +15g) each.
That shouldn’t be a problem. Check the infused Backpiece to see if it still has the extra infusion slot.
If you still have all your Cultural pieces equip them again to make sure they register in the wardrobe. You can also check the Cultural vendor and look at each piece to see if the skin is unlocked or not.
The biggest change we had was from the Aptril 15th patch. You may want to look over the previous patch notes since you left for more information.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/April_2014_Feature_Pack
You can view the Prefixes on the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature
The new “Nomad” prefix is (Toughness/Vitality/Healing Power). The first stat is always the highest and the last two are lower and equal.
World Bosses are now set to a schedule which you can follow here:
http://dulfy.net/2014/04/15/gw2-world-boss-schedule/
http://dulfy.net/2014/04/23/event-timer/
To see which are on the schedule and which are off you can see on the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_boss
The World Bosses themselves have remained mostly unchanged the same with a few minor updates. Shadow Behemoth got updated to require more than just auto attacking which made the event a little longer. Everything is still super easy though with the only exception being Teq which requires a fair amount of coordination.
(edited by Highchu.3806)
“In PvE a character’s effective level and attributes are automatically reduced based on level themed sectors within the given zone. For example, a character in the Venlin Vale area of Brisban Wildlands will be lower level than a player in the Koga Ruins area of the same zone. Although skills and equipment (runes and sigils particularly) are retained, zones should still be challenging to play.”
“A scaled down character continues to receive experience and loot that is comparable to what they would receive at their real level, though it is still somewhat less efficient for obtaining experience and items than playing level-appropriate content.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dynamic_level_adjustment
You won’t earn as much XP as you would in an appropriately leveled zone, but if will still offer a good chunk of experience. With a higher level character you should be able to blaze through it fairly quickly. You will need to complete them eventually for Map Completion if you ever plan on going for a Legendary weapon. Better to get it out of the way early or the XP will continue to scale down as you gain even more levels.
“Within a trait line, traits are grouped into 3 tiers: Adept, Master, and Grandmaster. These tiers unlock sequentially as a character progresses and determine how many trait points can be spent in any trait line.”
“Characters acquire their first trait point at level 30 and earn 1 additional point every 6 levels up to level 66, then they start earning 2 points at a time. In total, a level 80 character will have 14 trait points.”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trait
At level 30 you only have 1 trait point to spend on any of the minor Adept Trait Lines. Once you earn your 2nd point you will be able to spend it in a Major line. As you level more you will unlock higher tiers which offer better traits the more you invest into them.
I started with a Charr Warrior and while I really enjoyed it in the beginning the appeal wears off fast. The larger size makes jumping puzzles a little harder, but its not a big deal once you get used to it. You will experience alot of tail/backpiece clipping unless you don’t use certain pieces. The four legged running animation is pretty cool, but not everyone likes it.
Humans are alright with nothing really special about them. The female models look the best besides Sylvari if customized correctly. The human Cultural armor imo looks the best of all the races.
If you are in it for the story I found the Charr storyline much more enjoyable. The quests you take with your warband are pretty cool though I wish they played a bigger part towards the end. The human storyline was kind of boring and felt more like it was just going through the motions.
An AI fix would be the ideal solution, but thats asking for even more than a simple Attack/Passive toggle. I can understand them not wanting to give us too much control since minions aren’t true pets after all. We don’t need need the extra functions, but just having Guard (what we have now) and Avoid Combat would be a great help. There are times when you just need them to stop attacking and theres nothing you can really do besides let them die or use Lich Form to kill them all.
I’d change “Near to Death” → “Path of Midnight” or “Spectral Mastery”. With only “Necrotic Grasp” (Slow) and “Necrotic Slash” (130 range) you won’t build up LF fast enough to really make use of a shorter DS cooldown. Your Crit Chance is also a bit on the low side so you might want to consider swapping to “Knights” and use “Potent Master Maintenance Oil” for extra Precision..
I’m a little skeptical about Aristocracy runes in a PvE condi build. What does it accomplish? It supposedly grants us might increased duration, but where is our source of might?
And any other rune/stat ideas?
You would need to trait Spite VI “Reaper’s Might” or you could bring “Blood is Power”. I think “Rune of the Undead” is a good all purpose choice which is cheap and offers maximum Condition Damage. The other Condition runes aren’t particularly useful for PvE.
(edited by Highchu.3806)
Unlike PvE/WvW all our stats in PvP come from our trinket choice. You need to decide whether you want to go Power (Berserker), Condition (Rabid/Carrion/Dire), or Bunker (Soldier/Knight). Certain prefixes combo better with different weapon sets and your trait choices will determine which runes/sigils fit best.
Weapon Sets:
Power – Axe (Mainhand)+ Focus/Warhorn (Offhand)
Condition – Scepter (Mainhand) + Dagger/Focus (Offhand)
Bunker – Axe/Dagger (Mainhand) + Warhorn (Offhand)
All Purpose Utility – Staff (2hand)
These are some of the builds I use, but there are other variations out there. Play around with different build types and find out what works best for you.

Sword/Sword only works with Condition builds which are very impractical for PvE. If you do decide to use a Condition build I’d avoid using Rifle and go for Longbow instead. LB has way more utility over the Rifle with the added benefit of AoE which the Rifle has none.
Heres an example of a Sword/Sword+ Longbow build for PvP/WvW:

I always collect and save my Scrolls of Knowledge to use on alts. Any new characters made post-patch will have difficulty acquiring enough skill points on their own for skills/traits. You will need to be incredibly selective on what you spend it on or farm it up on an 80. I wish they made our total skill points account bound and save us the trouble.
“Hold the Gates of Flame against waves of Flame Legion” is the last part of “The Battle for the Flame Citadel and Senecus Castrum” pre-event to open up the CoF. The entire event takes place just outside the CoF in “Fireheart Rise” (The Baelfire). It will only come up when the zone is contested and takes about ~10 mins to complete from start to finish.

I agree with all the points you listed and would like to include the addition of DS stomping/res which imo is reasonable since we are lacking in reliable anti CC compared to other classes. It can still be done by exploiting which has been around for awhile and they’ve done nothing about it. Might as well simplify things and just include it into the mechanic.
If they ever do decide to rework Axe it would be nice if they added cleave of some kind. Since I mostly stick to Scepter/Staff condition builds its not a big issue for me. We can still make due even with our slow LF buildup, but it could really use some improvements. I think an easy fix would be to be to just add some low LF generation on the Scepter/Axe auto (2-4% would probably be good enough).
I still don’t see any of these changes happening though since Anet is only really concerned about maintaining overall game balance and not improving convenience. Necros also aren’t that popular so even if they were to make changes we’d most likely be bottom of the list.

If you want a “Nuke” build you can go with the standard Wellomancer:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNAndWjc0UdbLN20whbiahC66MAmho6Aqnj2oaB-TVSDwAP3fIhSweK/ep+TlzAAI9BDeAAAM/J5QAQKgIWGB-w
The most common weapon set is Axe/X for power. You can use mainhand dagger for the Life Siphon, but I’m not a fan of the shorter range. All 3 of the offhands (Warhorn/Focus/Dagger) are viable so it just depends on the situation. I typically keep focus as my default and will switch to Warhorn for mobility or Dagger for AoE conditions. I always carry a Staff as my alternative weapon set for the utility. The auto can be used to stack Life Force.

I don’t play an Engi so I can’t offer any input, but it would be helpful if you specified the profession in your title. You should also try posting in the Engineer subforum where you’d probably get more feedback.
“The boost increases bonus crafting experience, but does not affect experience towards leveling. In other words, you use fewer materials in order to gain crafting ranks.”
Nike’s video explains the current meta after the April 15th patch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ll2dXedsxw
In one of his older videos theres a pure Dual Wield build which is also viable, but most people prefer to just stick with Greatsword camping. Heres what a basic GS build should look like:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQNAR3ZjMdU5ZfH2ewJagfAxYgBnXtZUymLB-TlSBAB0s/Alq/YmSwrU+FxBUojDCAe6eW4IEAwDCIvLAApAiYZE-w
The alternate weapon set is up to personal preference (Axe/Mace) is the most common, but you can go with (Sword/Warhorn) for mobility and cleansing or (Longbow) if you want some range. I always carry “For Great Justice” and 1-2 banners for group utility (Discipline/Strength) are the best. You swap out “Signet of Rage” for “Battle Standard”, but the cooldown is long so I typically just stick with Rage. If there are more warriors in your party work it out with them to make sure you don’t double up anything. If you can’t afford “Runes of Strength” just go with the standard “Runes of the Scholar”.
I’m sure this has been asked alot, but will they be introducing new PvP game modes in the near future? While Conquest is fun and all it feels really lackluster having only the single game mode. I miss the PvP modes from GW1 Factions: (Jade Quarry/Fort Aspenwood) which were my favorite at the time. Even if all they added was a basic Team Deathmatch/Free for All/Capture the Flag mode it would help mix things up.
I use full Rabid on my Necro for WvW/PvP and while I like the extra Toughness, I’m not really sure what I’m getting out of the extra Precision. Since Condition builds rely primarily on (Condition Damage + Condition Duration) to deal most of the damage which isn’t dependent on Crit chance does it really make a big difference to have it or not? Without utilitzing ferocity normal crits are weak and conditions themselves can’t crit so is it just there mainly to help with on Crit Sigils? Coming from the Berserker meta I’ve always just gone for Precision thinking it was the normal thing to do, but when it comes to Condition builds it seems way less necessary/useful. What makes it a better choice compared to Dire/Carrion or the hybrid [Dire+Rabid] Ascended trinkets?
(edited by Highchu.3806)
I’ve been using a Razer Anansi (Keyboard) and Razer Naga (Mouse) for a good year now and they work pretty well. I don’t really find gaming keyboards to be all that beneficial unless you really make full use of all the extra keys. I’ve never really found myself using any of them at least in GW2. Its probably more useful for other MMO’s with alot more skills. You should easily be able to keybind everything on to a normal keyboard without any problems. The tactile feedback on the keys feel nice so if thats important for you give it a shot.
Having a gaming mouse is very convenient since it gives you full access to certain keys (depending on the model) with just a press of your thumb. A normal mouse is good enough, but if you game alot it can make playing alot easier. It will take some time getting used to it in the beginning (1-2 week or so) to start feeling natural. Once you do get a feel for it normal mice just won’t feel the same.
I’ve always felt that necro minions were just basically shaped ectoplasm. They used to come from corpses in gw1, but now they come from nowhere. So, where does all the flesh and blood and parts come from? My guess is the ether.
(Insert wrong answer buzzer noise) they are simply created by using dead crap that’s all over the place. The corpse mechanic was removed because it was highly limiting and created bad gameplay, not because minions are not still created from corpses.
I mained a Necro back in GW1 and liked the corpse mechanic. Even in PvP corpses were fairly plentiful with all the NPC enemies. It offered the possibility of creating a much larger minion force than we can now. They served a function as meat shields and had a true Necromancer feel to it. Now its just cast and forget which makes playing a Minion Master feel lazy. I also miss the old AI models for the minions which imo were alot cooler.
Wait so do i use Banners of Discipline or Strength? and Signet of Fury or Dolyak?
You typically take banners in dungeons for the group utility. Discipline + Strength are the ones you want the most so work it out with other warriors to make sure you don’t double up. If I’m the only warrior I’ll take both as well as Battle Standard, but the cooldown on BS is incredibly long so I prefer Rage most of the time.
The 2nd utility slot I typically leave as a filler for Signets/Stances/Shouts. I like “Signet of Fury” for the passive Precision boost and you can activate it for full adrenaline when you want an extra burst (not really useful when camping GS though). I swap it out for “Dolyak Signet” when I need stability/stun break and it also offers a passive toughness boost for tougher fights. “Signet of Stamina” can also be useful for the increased Endurance regeneration, but I don’t find myself needing it that often in PvE. You will want it in certain instances that require alot of dodging/condition removal.
I always keep “For Great Justice” for everything PvE as a good all purpose DPS boost. You can always benefit from more Might and its even better if you are running a Might Stacking/Sharing build, but don’t worry about that until later.
Your standard lvl 80 GS build should look like this:
You will mainly be camping GS with this build so your alternate set is up to personal preference. The most popular options being: Axe/Mace (Stack Vulnerability), Sword/Warhorn (Mobility/Condition Removal), and Longbow (Ranged AoE).
Dual Wield builds are also viable which offer better sustained damaged vs. Burst damage that Greatsword offers. You can run (Axe/Mace + Axe/Sword) or swap out one set for a Greatsword if you like.

The best leveling weapons are probably the Greatsword (All purpose Cleave) and Longbow (Ranged AoE). You won’t really need the LB once you hit lvl 80, but its still good for leveling. The stats you should be focusing on for PvE is Berserker (Power/Precision/Ferocity) which is a purely DPS set. Theres no need for additional Tougness/Vitality as long as you dodge and pay attention to attack animations.
Your skill choices depend on the content that you are doing, but the most commonly used PvE skills being:
Healing – “Healing Signet” (Our best heal skill)
Utility – “For Great Justice” / “Banners of Discipline/Strength” / “Signet of Fury/Dolyak”
Elite – “Signet of Rage” (All purpose) / “Battle Standard” (Group)
I’m sure you can find some leveling guides/builds online. Warriors are the most beginner friendly profession so you shouldn’t have much problems picking things up.
The skills/traits themselves look okay. How important is it for you to stack Healing Power? If you plan on running a condition build you should go with Rabid for higher Condition dmg+Precision instead. Lyssa runes got nerfed pretty bad so unless you actually activate Healing Signet pretty often it wouldn’t be worth using. You’d benefit more from condition runes like Krait or Undead..
Checkout Nike’s PvE Condition build (Sword/Sword+Longbow).
