How about a option to lock the camera view behind our chars? This having to align the view to where your char is looking in combat is lame. One should have the option to always be looking the same way as one’s char is.

I agree with the OP. Having to endlessly fight does NOT make a MMO exciting, it’s exasperating! Like trying to figure out how to get to that vista point but have to fight mob after mob after mob while trying to do so. Or trying to get a breather after a hard fight but get attacked everytime you stop. Etc. While most zones aint as bad as the mob density in RIFT, some zones (Orr) rival or even exceed that.

Now dark age of Camelot did it right. Aggressive mobs were located in quest areas, the rest of the map had very few, if any, aggressive mobs. Why one could actually travel and check out sites without getting swarmed! Whatta concept!

I’ve been thinking about giving that a try. I nevered played GW1 and from what I’ve heard it sounds like it’s better than GW2.

Magic find helps if you’re specifically going to try and get one in a drop. It’s just luck.

One should NOT have to add a almost useless stat to gear in place of stats that are of more use to the effientcy of one’s char just to have a “chance” at getting good loot. “Magic Find” is the single biggest joke in GW2. Have a powerful char but low to no chance of getting good drops. Moderately strong char (with a reduced chance of dropping the boss) but a possibly better chance at good drops. Whatta great concept!

IMHO, what killed Orr, and pretty near everything else, was FotM. Ever since Anet introduced Fractuals the other zones and dungeons are to all intents and purposes, dead.

That was, IMHO, a bad move in a MMO that was only a few months old. There was no need for it at that time, it should’ve been introduced much later if at all since there was (and is) still plenty to do besides fractuals.

At 60 the correct answer is the cheapest one available.

Agreed. Save as much of your coin as you can for when you get to level 80. I leveled up my Warrior to 80 using blue armor and green weaps and did just fine. I’m doing the same with my alts.

You stated that you like DPS melee. A Warrior would most likely be your best bet. If you have good gear/weaps using the Greatsword will not make you any more squishy than if you were using a one-hander and shield and you can do some impressive damage with it. The hammer is good too but it’s slow.

I have a 80 Warrior and what I use varies depending on the situation. If I’m in a group I use a axe and warhorn, if I’m solo the greatsword. (I carry the extra weaps in my pack) For ranged I use both the rifle and longbow. Solo, the rifle. ( great single target damage but no AoEs) and grouped, the longbow. (good AoEs but so-so on single target) You will need ranged weaps as there are some bosses that are almost impossible to melee as they’ll kill you pretty fast.

Try out any class that interests you up to level 10. You’ll usually know by then whether or not you like that class and if you dont you aint invested a lot of time/effort in it.

Just my 2 cents

Yes, for me this is the number one reason why I don’t enjoy the game. In GW1 it was so satisfying to clear a complete zone, and then just run around it, looking at all the sights. In GW2 you never have a moment’s rest to look at the beautiful art.

Hell, in most places you cant stop to look at your map without having to fight half a dozen mobs. And you’re trying to figure out how to get to that Vista Point but hordes of mobs keep attacking you while you’re trying to figure it out.

I agree that the respawns need to be drasticly slowed down and in some places, like Orr, the density of aggressive mobs needs to be reduced. I’ve pretty much given up on finishing exploring the Orr zones because with the insane mob density, fast resapwn time, and their longer than anywhere else aggro range, I cant do it.

Apparently, Anet has the same outlook as Trion. (RIFT) they seem to think that having to endlessly fight makes a MMO exciting. WRONG! It gets old real fast.

Slowing down while aggroed

in Suggestions

Posted by: Huck.1405

Huck.1405

I remember first seeing this in Vanilla WoW and have seen it in every MMO since. It makes no sense that one would SLOW DOWN when under attack! Is it suppossed to make the game more of a challenge when one is being aggroed by a half dozen mobs (Orr) so that they have a better chance to catch and kill you? If anything one is going to speed up in battle, you certainly aint going to slow down and make yourself a easier target. I’m not suggesting that our chars should speed up while under attack, but c’mon now, we dont need to slow down!

This can also be a major PITA when one is trying to do other things. In one zone i was trying to to the jumping to a vista point but could’nt make the jumps because a mob that was waaaaayy down below was aggroing me. I had to log off and try again later.

My point is that there’s no need for this stupid feature. GW2 has many innovative features that make it different from the run of the mill MMOs and this a feature that run of the mill MMOs all have that does not need to be included.

So how about dumping this rediculous feature?

Seven nearest waypoints, all contested!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Huck.1405

The most serious problem is, there is no safety route to tour the map at all. You need a group to move further into the next zone unless you already have full exotics and play specific professions such as warrior/guardian. Then, everyone keep repeating the same events, no one is willing to move deeper into the zone.

It is only pain to trying to move deeper into the zone.

It is only pain to move around to find things to do, event or mining or harvesting or anything else.

This is what makes these 3 maps the places that most people wants to avoid.

An end-game zone that hardly anyone wants to visit and stay? That’s the last thing you want to implement in an MMORPG.

Plus Anet slips in some doozys like the skill point at Gallows Hang being guarded by a friggin Champion!

You can always go and fight to uncontest the waypoint. You could even ask in /map for people to help out too. I’m sure there are people that want those waypoints to get uncontested too… maybe they just need a point person to rally around.

And 20 minutes, or less, later those waypoints are contested again.

Formal statement from ANet?

By jeopardizing your brand’s image you are liable to lose any future chance of new consumers or old consumers giving you a second chance.

I can agree with that. There’s 3 companies who’ve made MMOs that I will never have anything to do with again due to their outright lies to their customer base, endless unkept promises, misrepresenting game content, and totally ignoreing input from play testers when updates were being tested. UBISOFT, (Shadowbane) Funcom, (Age of Conan) And Bioware. (Star Wars, the Old Republic)

So Anet had best not do like those companies did because a lot of people will remember.

man I knew Asher and Wolfpack aka Stray Bullet games when they were in Austin Tx with Shadowbane. They wanted to do all kinds of things to the game, but their publisher Ubisoft didnt want to give them the money to do any of it…including more servers, better balancing etc..though honestly at its end..that game was one of the best balanced and most awesome pvp centric ever, people are STILL trying to recreate the code in a newer engine.

No, UBI did it to themselves.

If you played Shadowbane, you’ll remember another bad move on UBI’s part. They continuously beefed up spellcasters and gave then levitaion abilities to where meleers could’nt touch them and endlessly nerfed weapons fighters to the point that weapons fighters didnt stand a chance against spellcasters. Which earned SB the nickname “Casterbane”. When meleers started using throwing weaps so that they could get at the endlessly levitating spellcasters, UBI reduced the range of throwing weaps. It’s like UBI only wanted spellcasters and rogues playing the game, and that’s what it ended up being in SBs last years.

Showing preference to a specific class type over all others is a surefire way to lose customers and kill a MMO as UBI demonstrated with Shadowbane.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To me level cap increase = another grind and I’m sure that I speak for many when I say that grinding to higher levels and for more gear is not attractive at all.

Sorry Anet, I like this game but 80 levels is more than enough. And I’ll be saying “seeya!” if you raise the cap. Hell, I was hesitant to even start this game when I saw that the level cap was 80. You dont need to raise the level cap whenever you introduce new content because you wont keep or attract players but will most likely drive off many of them, me for certain.

A grind under the name of “new content” is still a grind.

So Anet, if you want to sell more BL chest keys during events like the Halloween event, for the skins or whatever you’re “offering”, you’d best make it worth the money to buy them because getting nothing for one’s cash dos’nt fly.

I use the keayboard controls to move my char and there are problems with it that I feel need to be fixed. Just as ofton as not, when i push the buton to turn left, my char starts to turn right and THEN swings left and vice versa. Needless to say this makes reacting to a attack slow and clumsy.

Also, not quite as ofton but still ofton enough to be majorly annoying, I’ll push the button to move forward or backward and my char freezes in place until I let off the key.

Plus when one is moving and steering the char the reaction timing is so slow that it’s like a drunken sailor steering a boat.

That is WAY too long since you have no chance of escaping when you’re getting swarmed and in underwater combat getting swarmed is as common as doggie doo in a kennel.

I’m tired of paying for repairs for the endless deaths because when I most need to get away, I cant due to the too long cripples. Please reduce them to a much shorter time. Hell, if our chars cant cripple/root/stun for durations that are that long the NPCs should’nt be able to either. Fair is fair!
