I liked Trahearne. But I like everybody. My biggest fault.
There was no gap between legendary and exotic.
There was a gap in the ability to obtain them. As in, the difficulty of obtaining a piece of exotic gear and the difficulty in obtaining a piece of legendary gear was massive.
I’ve basically putts’d my way to 80, and obtained a few exotics here and there along the way with minimal effort. The difficulty of obtaining a legendary is so great, I would likely never attempt to get one. I now have something that I will probably enjoy working towards, even through it has a minimal stat increase.
A gear treadmill would indicate that you need to grind for new gear as to experience new content, as well as stay competitive. From the reply, I feel we can infer rather easily that by playing the game in general, ascended gear will be obtained. Not only by running dungeons.
So, we get a whole slew of new content. I can play through all of it with my mix of exotics and slightly crappier gear. I can still kill people in wvw, even if they do have a piece or two of ascended gear. And all the while doing so, I will probably obtain ascended gear of my own. Where’s the bad?
I want new content. I like new loot. New items. I don’t care if it’s visual, horizontal, vertical, or a few point step ladder.
Yay new stuff!
If they continue to add new content, with new loot that includes minimal stat variances, I would be rather okay with that.
You’re assuming that higher slot upgrades will never be included.
“A new resource to harvest with 200 new crafting recipes.”
If any of those 200 new recipes happen to be for crafted upgrade slot that raise stats above Ascended gear, suddenly this fervor is unnecessary. Ascended gear would not be the end all be all outside of it’s specific dungeon, and the many crafting professions that create slot upgrades would not be obsolete.
What? He’s just wrong, period. I’m not assuming anything, and what you posted is completely irrelevant to my reply.
Pardon? How is the suggestion that the many crafted recipes coming along in the update could possibly include upgrade slot items that would push Exotic + Upgrade items beyond the stats of Ascended gear irrelevant to your post?
Let’s give it time fellas. I’m still of the opinion that Ascended gear will probably only be of benefit in the specific dungeon.
I’m well aware that the Ascended ring shown does indeed have higher stats than the ring shown. But we’re also getting 200 new crafting recipes, and a new gathering resource. Could it be that some of the recipes included will be for craftable upgrades?
I have to follow this idea because I find it very hard to accept that exotic and crafted upgrades would be scrapped outright as the community seems to believe.
1. There is no stat increase !!!!!! they took away the upgrade slot and put the points that you would have gotten from the upgrade slot into the main stats of the item!
that is right Ascended armor is worse then exotic as it is not as customizable as normal armor!Stop spreading misinformation.
The new gear IS better even when considering the upgrade slot. It’s as good as an exotic with an upgrade + 8% extra.
So sorry but you are actually just wrong, despite all the many exclamation points.
You’re assuming that higher slot upgrades will never be included.

Hey guys, what about the new resources we get to harvest? What do you think those will be for?
Wouldn’t a DPS ring out DPS the Yakkington’s Ring?

Yeah, that is a magic find ring and it is a lot better than normal magic find rings.
An ascended dps ring should be a fair amount better than the exotic one.
If there is such a thing. Again, we speculate that there is an entire new slew of dozens of pieces of gear. Can we really think they would make Exotic, and all manners of gear enhancement obsolete? I dunno, maybe. But it seems like a rather large leap of conjecture.

Why yes sir! I think you brought up an interesting point worth discussing!
While your post contains speculation, so does much of this thread.
The notion that only a few pieces of ascended gear will be available, utilized to baseline the dungeon running player base so that the content designed around player skill mechanics rather than the loot people may bring with them is a curious one! This of course leaving Exotic gear the ability to be modified, out gunning Ascended gear in the field.
Let’s think about this, rather than yelling and calling each other names. I would highly doubt that they would make Exotics obsolete in one fell swoop. Again, speculation on my part. But I feel there is such a thing as reasonable, and unreasonable conjecture.

only mmo where people complain when new gear is added.
Yeah, and why? Because this MMO was supposed to be different. For the people who dislike traditional MMO’s. And what happens now? Not 3 months after release it’s turning into a traditional MMO with a gear threadmill.
If two stat points is a gear treadmill, it’s gonna be a long run!
Most of us are in support of the upcoming update, just a small minority complaining.
Exactly.
Then the two of you bought a game despite something to the contrary being explicitly promised.
Even if you want gear-progression, a game.studio breking its promises so quickly should worry you.
I personally don’t care what’s “promised” and what’s not. As long as it’s fun, I’ll be happy.
If Anet’s vision for the game has been entirely flip flopped to a vertical progression philosophy, I’ll be fine with that. As long as it’s fun.
That being said, I highly doubt this. Personally, I feel this is most likely gear that is restricted to the lost shores, the dungeon’s themselves, or a new slot of gear / gear for backs.
I think it would make perfect sense for them to implement gear that only works for these specific dungeons. How many people complain about the desire for gear progression? Give it to them in a segmented portion of the game while retaining the stat flat top of the rest of the game.
People will run the dungeons for the gear / look that they desire.
It has also been stated a number of times that they’re reworking (Possibly this patch?) the rewards for doing a dungeon. Hopefully, more incentive. But, I’ve yet to spend more than 5-10 minutes attempting to get a group together for a dungeon.
ITT: We have doomsday speculation over something that will be entirely accepted / forgotten a week from now.
Could it be that they just wish to add a step between exotic, and legendary? I am quite okay with that.
They already risked things on hype and we got the broken promises. Now all thats left of the game are the fanatical devotees, the army of bots, and a game flawed beyond comprehension. “Mission Accomplished” as Bush once said.
Man, could you have possibly spun that to sound worse? This guy should work for foxnews.
I think it would be rather nice if you could invite a friend to a full server.
Maybe make it a – Once a week – kinda deal. I’ve a few friends that I would very much like to get on my server. :/
Disagree, heavily.
I would like to see greater skill diversity in a number of areas, but I certainly wouldn’t want them to replicate the standard formula.
It’s good to speak your mind. They want your opinions. But, lets be nice about it. If you’re acting like a giant flaming kitten, they’ll likely not heed your words.
I hope they add a clock tower every content update. This is how we sift out the weak.
Do we know what time the event will take place?
I’d rather my end game be – They add new stuff for me to do every other month.
Seriously, if they keep up the trend after the November update, it would be pretty stellar. It would be no small feat, that’s for sure.
More jumping puzzles! Or maybe a snowboard race? That would be kinda neat.
I think the rage is part of the experience. I was getting rather irritated myself. Not really in a “OMG ANET I HATE THIS.” kinda way. It was more of a Nintendo era rage feeling, haha.
But once you master it, it’s not bad. There’s a number of areas that just take trial and error to learn the hangups. Along with that, once I finished, I felt pretty great!
Yeah, the back harness doesn’t show. I’m waiting for cloaks!
Welcome to software development. Chris, I’ll let you in on a little secret: No matter how much time anyone in software development has to make something, things will always go awry and there will be bugs, and glitches. Preventing all this from happening is near impossible.
What you must have is patience. That’s the key to it all.
Software development is fickle and bugs happen no matter what. This isn’t new to anyone in the MMO business.
^ Right there.
Everyone knows this is true. But they still talk like someone deliberately went, “Aw heck, we could test this a bit more…but lets go out for mammosa’s instead.”
^ Right here didn’t read my latest posts.
I know about software dev cycle, I know about the QA cycle…
There are a lot of things they could do to prevent a lot of the bugs I talk about/server issues.
I know it is not on purpose they make these things happen, it doesn’t even take half a brain to point that out….I am offering them feedback that it is getting frustrating at least to this customer.
If I didn’t care I wouldn’t be on the forums nor would I be playing.
I don’t really care about your latest post. Or your feedback. What is your feedback exactly?
You – “Anet, I dislike when your game has problems.”
Anet – “Really? Well thank you for pointing that out. We would have had no idea otherwise.”
Again, had they not told people that it was something they could miss, people would have been rather upset. Make a stink if you like. But you’re just being silly.

I gotta admit, I love these events. But holy crap, it would be nice to get something cool.
Well, lets see.
In Act 1, the only way you were able to get the set pieces was to open chests.
In Act 2, they gave one piece away for doing the jumping puzzle, and gave you a chest to open once a day for killing bosses.
We’ve two more acts people. Slow your roll.
After getting used to doing it on my charr, I found it a bit tricky to do on a human. But, finally got it across a few alts!
It took like…4 hours. But I loved it!
Haha! It took me 4 hours total to get to the end.
But once you get it all worked out, it’s not bad. I was able to complete three runs in a row after finally finishing.
It’s like Battletoads all up in here!
Got it! Charr.
I tend to feel that doing it on a Charr is somewhat difficult. Since we move on all fours, it feels like we need to jump before we really should. Kinda messes you up.
Yeeeeah. I love the Charr. I think they’re really interesting and all that. But I would totally race change my charr ranger if I could.
We just look goofy a majority of the time. Before I started getting CoF gear, I looked like a monster trying to wear human clothing.
Side peeve – I somewhat find the tail flick animation while shooting my bow to be a bit obnoxious.
I do feel that this will be addressed though. I commonly hear that Char look the worst in most gear. Especially medium.
I enjoy this greatly.
Same. I think they’ve stated something on the topic. But I am far too tired to go look around for anything.
Yeah, it’s not hardcore. They should delete it.
If implemented correctly, I would not kitten. But walking in to a camp, clicking 6-8 people with a quest marker, then rolling out to do everything, only to later return…do not want.
It’s been said already, but if Guild Wars 2 were like Guild Wars 1, the player base and over all success of this title would be dramatically lower.
Yeah, I don’t really get any lag. I’d also be willing to bet that the servers we run on are just as good, if not better than a server for a pay to play mmo.
This thread has no purpose, other than to be a butt.
Yeah, people are whining a bit too much about this. No one is making you spend money. You could just as easily farm the gold. If you don’t want to farm the gold because it “takes too long” then spend cash.
If I had to wait another day for this, I would go Mad King Thorn’n around town, and end up in jail.
I’m hovering between 500kb and 1.5mb.
Stead out Bessy!
I want notes! Notes I say!
I think it would break the game rather quickly. Since there is no dedicated healing, or res spells, the downed state provides a player with a last stand, and the ability to be resed by another player / res themselves if they’re lucky.
I actually think this promotes teamwork. Your poor teammates caused a strain on the rest of your group. Wouldn’t this qualify as a teamwork? Or well, a lack there of? You had to carry the dead weight. As you would with any team based activity.
Being downed is not a good thing. But it is recoverable given that people are paying attention. Which I believe, is the idea.
GW2 already has a very large loyal community.
The problem is people tends to come in forums for complaints, so you’re more likely to find complaints than anything in any gaming forum, from GW2 to WoW.You know what they say: “Do something right and you’ll get one or two handshakes. Do something wrong and there’ll be dozens to throw it right on your face.”
^ Right there. Guild Wars 2 will be just fine.
I too generally have rather good experiences in game. On Darkhaven, we used to have a guy that would do daily trivia at around 7pm, handing out silver to those who get the question right. It was fun.
I also come across the same people here and there while hunting dragons and such. But of course, there are the goobers that will pop up every now and then to shout silly things in /m chat for their own amusement.
