I agree. As someone who has previously scripted his own minor games, I understand how hard it is to make ANYTHING work properly, let alone a game as massive as this. I also understand that any little change could potentially require hours of coding, testing, etc. I also understand we are all humans, and make mistakes. Nothing in life is perfect, especially video games.

I also commend Anet on making one of the best experiences I’ve had in a game.

note I am at work and haven’t logged in today yet so don’t flame me for the LS lag

Same here, I’m on Isle of Janthir and even on some lvl 60 – 70 + maps the chat is empty, but I always see people running around every few mins, and when I say “HELLO?!?!?!!” in the chat get numerous responses.

I have a necro, and love it, and feel OP when I can kill two vets and various lesser mobs solo. I love necro. There are issues sure but it is very much viable and one of the strongest ‘take down everything in sight’ classes there is, IMHO of course.

Yes thief, warrior, etc can kill 1 or 2 things before I can, but I can kill 5-6+ at the same time before any other class.

Lol, yeah. I know what you mean. I have 2 lvl80 Necros (hated Sylvari, so I just started Human). I just can’t help but to love the class like my GW1 Necro. When they balance things, I can see us as being very good classes to have.

I feel like the general forums here have turned into the D3 general forums, which I trolled for months after uninstalling that game.

I know people are upset about certain things and have every right to be, but come on. This game is 100% better than most I’ve played, 120% better than other MMOs (IMO), and 150% better than D3.

It’s not perfect, but the devs listen, they care, they try, and they’ve made a pretty god kitten admirable game.

Everyone was kittening about not having a gear treadmill and that aesthetic weapons/armor are pointless. So they added a tiny treadmill and now people are kittening about that. Who cares? It’s a game, and a great one at that.

I’m not even max lvl yet, I have a lvl 74 necro 32 mesmer 15 thief 5 ele. I’ve played for 200+ hours and are only 52% world completion on my necro. I will play another 200 hours before I even have to worry about ascending.

I know a lot of players are maxed to the kitten already, but that’s not Anets fault you refused to go outside for 3 months. So what you’re really saying is the game is so good you couldn’t put it down until you were 100% done? And now you complain about being done?

I played Skyrim for 60 hours before it bored me to tears. I’ve played this for 200+ and frankly, I still wish I could stay home from work and play it.

I spent $60 bucks on both of them.

Haha I love it! I find myself randomly typing /laugh /cry /wave etc just to hear the voice acting. The laugh is by far the best laugh IMO of all races/sexes. It’s hilarious! The wave is awesome too. I just love it! The norn male that falls to his knees is pretty funny too but this one is just classic.

So to whoever did the voice acting for the female sylvari well done!

JOSH! Here’s my two cents:

First of all, that tower was some of the coolest feelings I’ve ever had from a video game. The anticipation of waiting, the thrill as the fog is rising and your heart is pounding. Absolutely awesome.

I don’t care what anyone says, I did eventually complete it, but it took a long time and lots of practice. Just like anything in life, anyone can learn any skill, it just takes time. Trying 10 – 20 times and giving up doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It might take someone 1000 times to do it, and granted there wouldn’t be enough time for that (which is the only possible issue I see here) if you commit enough you can do it.

Last night (Oct 30th, I’m in BC) at 10:30PM, I was on my 20th or so run. I was getting very very close, and very very frustrated. It’s one of those things that you want to do so bad, but get mad because you can’t. I love getting that from a video game. It’s why I loved Dark Souls, and why I loved this.

I don’t care about the quest rewards or the achievements (I mean, I do :P) but they are somewhat of a back seat to the sheer thrill of the event. You can’t get thrills like that from most games. You have some how managed to make a halloween themed event that MADE you want to push yourself further – just to see whether or not you could master it.

I did want that achievement for sure, but even before I completed it and could see myself getting better it was an absolute joy. After completion, I told myself I would never set foot in there again :P and was SO happy. Like jumping up and down happy. It’s very hard to get me to jump up and down from a video game (28 years old, raised on NES/Atari) I’ve played my fair share of games, and let me tell you that feeling I felt was rare.

I understand people’s frustration, really I do. Some don’t have time, some think they can’t do it, but that’s all irrelevant. It should be looked at for not only the thought that was put into it, but the THRILL of it. Not the difficulty, the thrill you feel in your heart as you ascend that bloody tower. I mean my hands would sweat, my wrist would cramp, I TORTURED myself because I knew if I stopped to adjust or took too long my run was over.

It was absolutely 100% masterfully done, and you shouldn’t feel anything less than fu<king proud for making it. Honestly, well done.

In 40 years when I am old and grey, I’ll probably forget my first girl friend, or the first time I did WvWvW, the first time I ate fast food, the first alcohol I consumed, etc

But trust me when I tell you, I will never ever forget the thrill of that jumping puzzle. I went in an apprentice, and I came out a master, and for this, I thank you.

Don’t ever feel bad for anything. You can never please everyone, but you pleased the hell out of me.

And though I may be a bit biased, in all honesty if I never solved the puzzle last night or today, I would tell you the same kitten thing. My heart hasn’t beaten that hard in YEARS.

Just wanted to say thanks ANET really enjoyed the whole Halloween events and it’s awesome of you guys to give us such great content. I was able to snag all the achievements as well as (obviously) my first exotic, the mad king slippers.

I know a lot of you guys already have lvl 80’s, but this halloween event allowed me (only lvl 67 atm) to experience some cool things! The drops in the labyrinth were fantastic for me, and while I wasn’t able to find an exotic halloween skin other than the slippers, I am very pleased with all the upgrades I found, and being able to use the Crossing staff for a few days was fun too! I did spend $20 trying to get keys, but I never felt like I HAD to spend the money, and I loved the fact you could “rent” a skin for easily obtained currency if you weren’t lucky enough to find one or weren’t lucky finding them in MK Chests.

It’s really good to see devs put this much effort into events like this for a free to play monthly game. With all the corporate greed that seems to plague this industry lately this was a breath of fresh air for me. I expected maybe an extra champ or two and an event, but the four acts were really fun for me.

I’m not saying it was perfect, as there were some minor issues, but the over all event was fantastic IMO, and the clock tower was so fun the first time I made it was a rush!! Met a lot of cool people in the lobby too!

3 identical items always suck!! Although you are a pretty low level maybe that has something to do with it? Not sure..

On a side note, I can tell you I got upgrades for both weapons, shoulders, legs, armor, boots, and gloves including a lvl 60+ rare axe, all in the labyrinth in about 10 – 15 mins. The drops down there are insane, at least for me.

Thanks a lot for your informative responses guys! Hmm. I guess the best avenue would be to test it myself! I think getting the life siphoning wells for pve and then using the same build but 10 pts into spite instead for wvwvw and spvp would be best.

So I’m a little torn and can’t make up my mind for this. Basically, I’m running a power/cond dmg hybrid build with enough points in blood magic for the reduced well cooldown.

My build is currently (I am only lvl 65)

20/20/0/15/0

My question is I am going to invest another 5 pts into blood magic for sure to get the reduced CD on wells, but I am torn between spending the other 10 pts into spite for power and the 20% more dmg if target is <50% health, OR, if I should put the other 10 into blood magic for the wells siphon health when they pulse.

I went on wiki and found the health siphoned to not be that great. (21 per pulse) but then I started thinking if I hit 5-7 targets with both wells it might not be all that bad. I know due to our bugs the 50% increase to life siphoning doesn’t effect this trait, so my question is

Is the life siphoning wells worth it? Can I get an opinion of a necro that has tried this out and their thoughts? I know I could just go to pvp and try it myself but I’m at work and figured someone would know that has given it a solid try.

GUILD. The first word of the name of the game IS NOT WORKING for thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of people. And has not worked in weeks (if not from the start)

Don’t you guys think this should be a top priority considering it’s what the name of the game is? I mean this game has SO MUCH good guild stuff in it, and some of us can’t use any of it.

I love this game Anet, I would give it a 9/10 at least. Having a guild and not being able to edit anything brings that score way, way down. I have never had a guild before, and now I’ve had one for two weeks. Can’t do nothing with it at all. What’s the point? Yeah I have a cool acronym in between brackets by my name, but that isn’t enough anymore.

TL;DR: Fix the guilds for crying out loud, or re name the game to something else.

So you just said that when you tpvp as a necro you get destroyed, and then you said that you win 90% of your tourneys as a necro. I never said it is solely resting on your shoulders, I was merely implying your ‘knowledge’, if you can even call it that, is one big contradiction. Sorry if you’re too dumb to realize that, but what you say makes absolutely no sense.

I told you I love my necro in pvp wvwvw and pve, and you told me none of that matters and the REAL problem is in tpvp. Then, in the very same post, you went on to tell me that you win 90% of your tourneys as a necro.

Trying to understand your logic, or more importantly why you don’t realize you are a contradicting fool hurts my brain. I realize tourneys are a team effort, but if you win 90% of them who really gives a crap if you had more kills than other classes. You played with your necro, and you won – period. And unless you were dead last in every one of those tourneys with no kills and the most deaths, I’d say your argument is void.

How they are “useless” or “unplayable” in tpvp in the mind of someone that has won approx 405 tourneys as a necro is comical to me.

P.S: Saying “next” is kind of funny too, like you have a line up of people just waiting to talk to you or hear your opinion. lololol!

I agree with the last two posters. I’m only lvl 52 but I melt everything in PvE (drop two wells, blood of power, and if they aren’t dead I use DS and megadrain #4, and in the rarity something survived that I still have plague/lich)

I’ve done my fair share of Spvp, as well as WvWvW.

I never die 1v1. Ever. I even had a 2v1 vs 2 warriors in WvWvW and I had BOTH below 30% health before I died.

So much survivability.

I would agree, if people think Necro is unplayable, they are doing it wrong.

Hello! I just made a new guild (and my first one ever) so forgive me if some of this is noobish

I made a guild and invited one person that I want to have the highest rank as I do. I can edit what the ranks ARE but I cannot edit what permissions they allow, or change what rank he is, or anything else. I can’t edit message of the day for example, or the banner. (although I’m not sure if this is unlocked right away)

Basically the only things I can edit are the rank names, and I can invite. That’s it! I’m not sure if this is in the right place or not but I did see a couple people having similar issues in chat so it might be a bug. Thank you!

I don’t know that is tons in your scale, but I suggest you to try out thief/warrior/mesmer/ranger or any other profession and then come here to say again that Necro do tons of damage.

Actually, I use wells too, and I’ve played a mesmer, thief, and necro and necro wins over and over and over again for AoE dps. Have you ever played a necro?

People hear necro and want minions which is cool, but they aren’t viable enough IMO. Wells + traits + Death Shroud = Death.

I can get surrounded by 5 or 6 trash mobs and kill them all with well, well, DS, mega drain.

Even veterans are already half down by the time I’m done my w-e-r F1- 4 rotation. (I use qwert instead of 6-0) and that doesn’t include plague as an elite with + cond dmg that rapes mobs by itself. So much AoE damage. And the 20% reduced CD on wells = GG.

I agree with whoever said Necros do huge dmg because they do if you spec them right. Mesmers are weak as kitten vs groups and so are thieves IMO but thieves are great 1v1 of course and so are mesmers. Necros steamroll groups.

Let’s say a mesmer does 4,000 dmg (this is just a toss up estimate – no truth behind it) per rotation on single target

and a Necro does 2,500 dmg PER TARGET a rotation.

Who does more damage?

Perhaps future quest rewards of some sort? Maybe it’s Anet pre planning

You can reduce the cool down by 20 seconds. If you get the cond duration perk the effects will last longer but you can’t get the wells to pulse more than 5 times to my understanding. But don’t look at it like that, look at it like this:

If you could drop two wells, and pulse any number of enemies in that field 5×2 times (2 wells 5 pulses each) for huge damage, with a 30ish second cool down, isn’t that worth it?

Normally if you lay two good wells everything in it is normally already dead or at least weakened, and you still have 1-5 + your third slot skill + an elite skill to finish them off. ATM my necro uses the bleed one (the one that bleeds you and the enemy) for elites or vets etc. It is an awesome 1v1 move that allows me to save my wells during 1v1 fights.

Get to lvl 30 (if you aren’t already) and put 30 in curses 30 in blood magic and 10 in the bottom one (for death shroud) and use plague as your elite.

With the +cond damage and +cond time and the ground targetting of wells (letting you put them where you want not just surrounding you) you will destroy most that comes after you.

Necros aren’t meant for 1v1 IMO, or at least not this build. This build is meant to kill several enemies quickly. Even in PvP it’s awesome. Granted, people can just run out of the wells and avoid, but 1v1s in PvP are rare, and most times it’s group battles. Watch how fast people fall when you run up to a group fight and drop both wells in the middle of the fighting field!

I’m only lvl 45 so I’m not a know it all by any means, but I’ve made a thief, mesmer, and necro and when it comes to multiple target damage out put necro is the best hands down.

I understand Anet doesn’t want promotion of narcotics publicized in their game, and that’s fantastic. I can see their issue with the word “high” in a guild name, but why can’t I have highway or highmountain or highvenue or highschool etc? To me that’s a little dumb. The word high by itself should be censored but why can’t I have The highway bandits etc as a guild name? I think they’re over doing it a bit. In an MMO it’s hard enough coming up with original names someone else hasn’t already used, without having to jump through censorship hurdles. Highway isn’t a swear word, nor is it anything offensive at all but I can’t use it because of the first four letters?!?!

I agree, it is definitely a “Not today” button. I hear my Norn saying" I’m dying here" I press “Death shroud” and then I get bored. It’s not exciting at all, It is useful to wait for cooldowns and runaway but using it in your fights as part of your combos is a lost of time, attack rate is too slow. I do agree that the attacks should change depending on your weapons for example, you could enjoy better cause it would fit the way you fight.

I disagree. That ‘4’ mega drain is the second strongest move I have, next only to my well of suffering. It has HUGE range and hits multiple targets at the same time.

To each their own I guess but I use death shroud every time I fight a mob. I very rarely die because I do so much dmg so quick I barely get hit unless it’s a champ / elite mob or I get surrounded by other enemies after all my AoE are on cool down.

I also have some traits allowing more life force with skills, so even if I leave DS during combat a lot of the time my LF is almost full or at least full enough to go back and do a second mega drain. I’m telling you if you get familiar with DS as an offensive tactic AND defensive tactic, it will blow your mind.

It makes builds so fun too because I don’t care what weapons I use, my main attacks are both wells, the bleeding skill slot skill, and Plague + DS attacks.

If you want a more powerful Death Shroud you can get the trait that makes siphoning life 50% more effective (pretty sure it works with the ‘4’ in death shroud – the super drain, because when I set it my dmg increases a lot) and get the piercing shot so your ‘1’ goes through targets / hits multiples. Death Shroud for me I use all the time.

My build is a well cond dmg build so I have 20% reduced CD on wells, ground targeting, etc. And if I’m facing a hard mob I drop both the dmg wells, the bleed skill (forget what it’s called) and go into death shroud and hit 4. All AoE, all ravaging. It wipes most mobs out after that, and it’s a tougher mob and doesn’t die I have plague form for more AoE or I can finish them with death shroud pierce.

Forget minions…

Get wells, with ground targetting, 20% reduced CD, and life siphoning with pulse.

Then lay waste with AoE wells of death, use death shroud for the AoE drain attack and extra life bar, and use plague or lich form as elite so you have 3 different forms all with kickkitten AoE attacks and life siphon.

Minions are bad, sad but true, but I love my necro for the pure AoE destruction.

I’ll agree minions aren’t that great, but here’s my two cents:

I have a lvl 45 necro right now, and a lvl 19 mesmer. The reason why I love my necro isn’t minions (although the flesh golem is useful at times) it’s AoE / resilience. If you do the right build wells are ridiculous for AoE damage, and the resilience is awesome as well because you have Death Shroud for the AoE life force drain (huge dmg) and a separate life bar. I’m also really liking plague atm too because you can transform, do pretty good AoE dmg with that, and be immune to stun, daze, knock down, etc. Lich form is massive dps too but I don’t have it yet in PvE.

All and all, I loved playing my mesmer but can’t stop playing my necro. Really really fun IMO.

But yeah, minions suck. Don’t be a necro just for the minions, do it for the pulsating wells of doom that siphon health back to you :P

As for PvP experience I’m not very high rank but I haven’t had any issues winning 1v1s or 2v1s. Most times it takes a group to take me down because of Death Shroud / life drain / wells + siphon.
