Ok, so let’s take 2 different professions.
The first one has 2 skills that do damage:
- Skill A, does 50 damage, has a 10 second cooldown.
- Skill B, also does 50 damage, and also has a 10 second cooldown.

Now the other professions, sadly has only one skill to do damage with.
- Skill C, which does 50 damage, and has a 5 second cooldown.

Clearly, the first profession in this example is stronger (overpowered), because it has twice as many skills.

A more correct example would be

Profession A:
- Skill A, does 40 damage, has a 8 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.
- Skill B, does 40 damage, has a 8 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.
- Skill C, does 40 damage, has a 8 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.
- Skill D, does 40 damage, has a 8 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.
Profession B:
- Skill E, does 50 damage, has a 4 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.
- Skill F, does 50 damage, has a 4 second cooldown with a 2 second cast time.

Clearly Profession A is better…. wait a minute

Hmm seem to have fixed it self after a pc restart, though i would still label this as a weird problem as it only occurred inside WvW maps (no matter which)

So usually i get around 90fps in wvw and goes down to around 40-50 in large scale fights.

But today when i logged on, i logged in, no problem running 120+fps in Gendarran Fields then i go to our border in WvW and then the load screen starts to lag, when i get there, my fps has tanked down to 2 fps.

I then restarted the game, but same problem. I then tried every other WvW map, even Obsidian Sanctum and EOTM, same problem 2 fps consistently.

My FPS is well above 120 in all the other PVE maps i’v tested, even Heart of the Mists is fine, no problem there

I have no idea what the problem might be, was playing fine just 12 hours ago.

The ele does need some balance changes, but i have to disagree when it comes to WvW.
I see plenty of them running around compared to Mesmers, Rangers, Necroes and Engineers. However all these classes will look underrepresented if you look at percentage since Warrior and Guardin is overrepresented

Also i have never seen anyone die alone from retal unless you are in EOTM as retal damage there is pre nerf

Also if your hp is 14k, you should have a look at that for WvW.

I’m more upset with the fact one person cried about this and got an instant dev response than the actualy change. It feels so degrading to always be ignored when you present ele issues, whereas a single complaint from the recieving end gets adressed straight away…

This is probably the strangest fact about the announced change. The bug forum is bursting full with far more important issues and THIS gets fixed? If they did (miraculously) solve all the other issues as well I would not say anything, but how likely is that?

Bugs have different priority levels and ease of repair. I’ve fixed low priority bugs that were simple fixes because they were exactly that — simple. I’ve also postponed high priority bugs that were incredibly difficult to fix.

From the original forum post, it seems that this was a simple scripting error which didn’t require any changes to the code base. That would make it something trivial to repair.

I wouldn’t look much deeper than that regarding why this is getting fixed so soon over other bugs. In fairness they have fixed issues nearly every patch. They are getting thru it, although slowly.

True, i’v myself have done that a lot, but that doesn’t explain why the other spells don’t get fixed that has the same problem.

hmm it seems pretty easy for me to decide what to do

Every event gives about 300 +- 25 bags (staff guardian) + everything else that drops

Rescuing 1200 citizens give you a small chance of actually getting something good, of which every ultimate bag i’v gotten by now was absolute kitten (around 10 ultimate bags so far give or take)

Just for clarification, Meteor Shower is NOT the only AOE spell out there that doesn’t follow this red circle rule, in particular multiple of the mesmer spells don’t like Feedback and Null Field, would be nice to know if feedback is friendly or hostile before i hit myself in the face…

In all fairness yes, it should have a circle, but i bet if we go and complain about any of the other spells missing the red circle, not a kitten will be done about it. That is what most people are frustrated about.

Another thing i find weird is how Anet wants to take time and “balance” every small change they make, but as soon as they found out that this spell was missing a circle, they decided to hit it asap without actually testing it in action which doesn’t seem like the kind of balancing they seem be so fond of.

The problem with going down this path, is that it applies for every AOE in the game, you have to consider that almost every skill IS AOE, should Whirling Wrath or the similar skills have a red circle around it?

The same arguements listed for giving Meteor Shower a red ring, applies to the other AOE attacks in the game where some of them deal more damage than a meteor.
The only exception might be that it can be difficult to tell if it is friendly or not, but this goes out the window in big fights where people complain about not being able to tell if a Meteor shower is friendly or not, as it is really hard to see the animations of enemies in big groups

You mean a bunch of small circles that appear where each meteor drops right? Cause each meteor has a 5 target aoe cap.

Whatever is easiest to implement and would have the least impact on game performance is my vote. If that is the entire field or the individual drop, doesn’t matter. Just want to know I should dodge something before I eat a ton of damage. Some of those shower hits would easily clip my thief for 5k+.

If Meteor shower gets an AOE ring, then thiefs backstab and all that other crazy stuff that hits for kittenING 15k+ of an ele’s already low hp, should also have a big red ring around the target and reveal the theif for a longer periode of time before the stab due to latency…

You should look both at the upside and the downside.

RTL ignores chill and cripple but doesn’t get any range bonus from swiftness. Rush is affected by chill and cripple but gets affected by swiftness.

That’s such a small downside though. At a certain point, advantages and disadvantages are too small to be worth mentioning. The fact that you can’t get an additional 300 range is more than compensated for by never losing 600+ range. Plus, the current condition meta makes it an even better trade. You’re very likely to be snared and they are less likely to be the conditions removed.

What i meant was that 98% of the players were doing a good job and don’t fail horribly, but the rest 2% were ruining the event for all these other players. Also don’t take the % i just said for being true, just trying to point out that it is a very small minority of players who can be the deciding factor between success and failing and that you cannot change that by giving 110% of yourself.

Dude, if you’re getting mad/angry at other gamers for how they do or do not play, you need to switch to games that don’t involve people that can’t live up to your high standards.

I never said i can’t live with it, but it is frustrating that so few players can be the deciding factor between success and failing. Even if the rest of the team gives 110%, it cannot change the outcome of the event.

Also for the record, i play multiple other games on a competitive level, but that doesn’t mean i should drop playing gw2 because of the frustration from bad players, when the reward and fun on TS with the rest of the server, even when failing, is worth it. Though at the low difficulty of the event, it shouldn’t happen.

In an interesting little experiment in psychology, people seem to behave as though it’s the same group of people who fail the event every time. Like there’s a cadre of players sneakily following each of you, making sure to get on the same platform each time as you, and failing it. Yes, it IS “always that 1 kitten platform”, but that doesn’t mean it has to be the same 1 kitten group of 3-5 people.

The thing about this event, is that people don’t need to fail their platforms very often -at all- for the overall event to fail more often than it succeeds. If my math is right, then the number is around 89% for the platform success rate which the “raid” needs overall, and that’s just to break the 50% threshold on Marionette wins, i.e. to beat the Marionette sliiightly more often than it beats you. If you want to beat the Marionette more often, say three times out of four, then you need an even higher platform success rate.

So some of the things people are saying, like “90% of the players are crap”, is simply not true according to the math. Personally I would say that someone who finishes their platform 88% qualifies as “pretty good”, but a full raid of such people is still going to fail the Marionette more often than they kill it. Many of the people complaining about bad players probably themselves don’t have an >89% platform rate, and so have no ground to stand on, so to speak. (Confession: I think my rate is only 84% or so.)

Thing is, i personally have never failed a platform of the many events over this week, not even close and i know a lot of other players who have never failed it either.

It is not an event where you can say “You win some you lose some”, that is the same as saying that right after you died from a Moa that killed you in PVE, it simple should not happen.

The players who fail this are simply bad, or depending on the event, a single guy on the platform can cause the platform to fail for the rest of the platform (warden 2 with mines)

It is not 90% of players that are bad, it is 98% or something like that, that ruin it for the rest of the players. Btw my server wins most of the events, but a lot of them are pretty darn close but even if 1/5 fail or less, that is still 1 too many and hours are wasted on it because of a very few players.

If anet had made a better algorithm for sorting people on platforms, like spreading out people who have succeeded their platforms a lot and some other criteria like that, then this wouldn’t be such an issue (except on warden 2 possibly as 1 player can mess that up).

I was literally fighting a boss alone with 4 noobs on the ground.

The amount of kittenstorm I unleashed on them after the event was of biblical proportions.

So yeah, they get good, I get nice. This or Anet makes better events.

Instead of blasting other players with nasty comments and and getting reported for being a d**chebag, why not offer to teach them.

Because we do that at the start of every kitten event and as each lane get ready for the next encounter, we will (again) explain what to do

When they then fail horribly while you have been done for the past minute on your platform, you just watch them while telling them what to do in the map chat and attempt to help them out by using AOE spells on the edge of your platform (if possible)
Then you get mad because a very few players are ruining the entire event for the rest of the map, while you have been waiting there for an hour due to it getting hardcapped long before the event starts.

That is why people get mad…

It is always that 1 kitten platform…

I totally agree with what you wrote, but Haltair thinks otherwise. He want more points for beating lower servers than AM will get for beating higher servers.

He want that the sistem more fair.. I’m from baruch and i have to agree with him, last 3 weeks we were fighting against weaker servers, and we are trying to fight to reach top 9 again (to be on gold league on the next one), and we are finding that with this sistem based all on luck it’s not fair the actual leaderboard. And as he said we won Abaddon for about 40k points, and now because they had “luck” fighting against higer rated servers they are close to be on a higer place on the leader than us.

Of course they are doing a awesome performance wining Jade and GH, but I don’t think it’s really fair that with this they can be on higer tiers than other servers who can beat by a lot them. I think that the sistem should have to do the MU’s more accuarate on ranking points, because now we started (rating):

Baruch – 1 656.234
Miller – 1 524.748
Ranik – 1 467.823

Now we are winning them by almost the double, and we are +11.505 . So, while some servers just wining them by 1.000 points can earn lots of rating (or even losing they can win rating), other servers due to the unfair system can loose lots of rating (or wining really few) just by wining them for a lot of points.

So the point of this posts, is to have fair matchups so we can have a more accuarate leaderboard.

I don’t know if you understand what I mean… Also, i know that my english is not the best and maybe i’m not saying what i want to… haha

I agree with you guys that the system really isn’t fair when it comes to these ratings. We had the same situation last week against Kodash (1st) and Jade Sea (3rd), where Kodash won with 80k points over us, but they dropped in rating a lot due to our rating. http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/23/138

I think a way to solve this problem is really just making the ratio between higher ranked servers and lower ranked servers lower. It is “okay” if a higher ranked server is up against a lower ranked opponent and lose a little rating, but the amount of rating that some servers lose in matches they win by a landslide, is insane. Though it is kind of a bandage solution, as another system should really be found to replace it, but i have a feeling Anet likes bandage solutions…

Guys, excuse me, but… reading about blobbing? at miller? mwahaha. To be honest, we’re happy getting 80 ppl on the whole ts-server…

fsp, you mention yourself the “guildy guildy gvg yay” – server? then try it with one guild only, everything about 30 ppl (~40 w/ randoms) is just blob. So I nearly always saw 3 or 4 of your 15+-guilds together, or one guild with approx. 50 members. Just a few minutes ago, 60+ in our hills. So, lets be honest: I know you got the manpower, but… You think that’s skill? I dare you. I know some of you (yeh, hi dF, had some nice wipes against you ) have that skill, but most of your players, i think especially the ppl talking ‘bout miller blobbing here, are just wipelings in a blob, benefitting from fsps core of good players. No offense, but my opinion. Not more, not less.
I didn’t think fsp is in need to do something like this. Surmia? sure, they don’t have the guilds. Even Miller. There were many WTJs leaving after season 1, but yes, even miller had two or three events with a 60+-blob.. But generally, everytime I see a blob – everyday-, it’s fsp.
May be that you have more than enough players for wvw. Ok with that. But those comments? As I mentioned before: lol.

Just a small comment here, only 1 guy used the word blobbing about Millers and not really accusing them of blobbing, just saying there was a blob. From what i have heard on TS, no one really accuse Millers of blobbing outside the norm (everyone blobs during primetime more or less), so please don’t feel like you are being accused of blobbing, because you aren’t.

As for FSP blobbing, i can’t really comment much on that, as my guild currently don’t run guild events, though i try to organize a 5 man party once in a while to go make havoc on your borders from time to time :P

I see some very nice changes you have come up with, but i can also see some issues with some of them.

Now i come from a WvW perspective, so i cannot say if your suggestions are good for SPvP.

STAFF
Fire
Fireball: Totally agree

Lava Font: Maybe not instantaneously, but really a lot quicker than it is right now so you cannot run out of it without using dodge. (unless you are on the edge)

Flame Burst: This spell is already pretty strong, not sure this needs a buff, but that might just be me

Burning Retreat: The staff is really not close combat, so i don’t see why this should be made into a very up and close aggressive spell. Though this spell could use a little damage boost as there really is no consequence for actually running into the fire

Meteor Shower: While i would enjoy that i was able to run while casting it, i am not sure it would be for balancing. It is a pretty powerful spell, but i can see how it isn’t in SPvP where the opponent is smart enough to just stay away while it is active.
This should be a change that only affect SPvP and not WvW in my opinion.

Water
Water Blast: This spell is pretty good for support in WvW already, with some pretty good healing. So for WvW it is fine as it is as a support spell, but as for being useful as anything else than a support spell, it would be nice if it also healed the caster, but i am not sure it would be useful. For it to be useful, it would either have to give very high healing compared to the cooldown, or you would need to be able to get away from the opponent for a while and cast it. The problem with the spell is the little cooldown, so ANet cannot make it a very big heal and then the question becomes, should you use your time on healing a little, or just put out damage and put pressure on your opponent, while cooldowns reset.

Ice Spike: Now also causes immobilize for 1 second if target is chilled.
Can’t see a problem with this, if the target didn’t see the big floating ice spike hanging over their head, they are doing something wrong… that is really the main problem with staff spells, they are too easy to counter.
It would be nice though if this instead was made into a Combo Finisher to work together with Geyser and Healing Rain.

Geyser: personally i am fine with Geyser being a healing spell only, also i think that both Geyser and Healing Rain are fine, what we need are more blast finishers that doesn’t have a cooldown that takes ages or cast times that takes so long that you have to cast it before you place your combo field.

Frozen Ground: No changes.

Healing Rain: Direct healing can come from blast finishers.

Air
Chain Lighnting: Lightning is suppose to be high single damage so i very much agree with the damage % changes you suggest, also i agree with the travel time, eles really need at least 1 auto attack on staff that have a low travel time.

Lightning Surge: more or less instant would be a nice improvement, as there really is no use for it atm with the high cast time. As for it being a ground target AoE spell, i am not sure, again, lightning is suppose to be more or less single target with higher damage.

Gust: Made A cone would be a great solution for the problems this spell currently faces with it missing like 80% of the times you cast it. But lighting is still single target (mostly), so perhaps they should just fix it to start with and lets take it from there.

Windborne Speed: i’m fine with it as it is, maybe an adept trait could change it to give superspeed for a few seconds.

Static Field: No changes. No changes

Earth
Stoning: While the damage on this spell is not high, it does add conditions that will affect the battle, also it is a projectile finisher, so you could throw down a firefield before you switch to earth and do extra fire damage with it. you could also throw a water field and get extra regeneration with it.

Eruption: What it needs is a lower cast time, so it is possible to cast a Geyser, switch into earth and put down Eruption and have it blast before the Geyser ends.

Magnetic Aura: While i agree that it would be useful in a lot of situations with stability as an ele due to a lot of our spells being blockable, i think it would be a very powerful spell to just give stability, it should be a trait if this was implemented. Also it is already possible to gain protection with auras if you trait for it (Earth trait V)

Unsteady Ground: Personally i’m fine with it as it is, though i wouldn’t mind if it also knock down people who stand on it. What i would like if it just gave a little damage since you basically tun into a solid wall (this is for tagging purpose in WvW :P)

Shock Wave: I feel this spell is perfect as it is when it comes to cast time, form, etc, what it needs is a little more damage (20 sec bleed for like 1000 damage, really?)

I love when I check the map and UW holding down their BL! Keep up the hard work!

We are fighting hard we can just about manage to hold 2 towers and garrison but,it’s tuff with both servers hitting us at the same time with so many.It’s been fun even tho we are lacking numbers…we will fight on.

Edit: i spoke too soon the other servers decided we becoming too much of a threat so zerg’d bigtime:)

With the come back FSP is trying to make, I’m sure that as long as its not green, it won’t be a primary target;) Just really glad to see you guys didn’t give up! I’ve been on servers that do, and nothing is more frustrating. Keep up the hard work though; UW will only get better from it!

I thought sbi’s player base was one of the most loud mouth arrogant servers I have ever faced but far shiverpeaks is right up there and maybe even worse. You all talk about fort ranik players running from fights or intentionally avoiding them but no one from your server will fight if they dont have a numbers advantage.

Whats wrong FSP? thought you had this week in the bag did you? yea, its too bad most of my guilds coverage isnt strong until your supposed “prime time” comes to an end because Im definitely not alone in wanting to shut all of you up.

Look at the video right above your post, pretty sure we didn’t have the numbers ^^

Anyway enough with the fun, i personally haven’t said anything in this thread before so my opinion wont reflect those who have, but i think we all can agree that both sides do it, i can’t say which one does it the most, as i’m not on 24/7, neither am i on the opponents team watching it from their perspective, which makes it hard for anyone to say who is doing it the most.

From my perspective, it seems FR runs more than UW (take what i said above into account)
