The new VisualWood video pretty much sums up what the community believes about the x-pac, and why there should be one… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MDd95CwA0U
(( Why are we not doing this for every LS ?))
EQN`s fully destructible world can be some how countered by a fully destructible WvW map in gw2. EQNL and Wildstars housing and all this creativity in general can be to a small degree countered by gw2 with the addition of guild halls that you can fully visually modify. Also there are PvP changes coming next year that will make gw2 pvp more rewarding and enjoyable (hopefully). Now these are just SOME suggestions, that probably are going completely to be ignored by Anet, but thats the reason of all this complaining in the forums, because Anet ignores the players all the time and now after they saw their declining profits they thought that our opinions might be useful….
That income stream is quite low for an MMO. Come March 2014 with 3 huge online RPG titles set to release; Arenanet better have a Hail Mary.
what 3 huge titles is that?
Im guessing one of the 3 is Wildstar, which is NCsoft so they not even gonna bother with sales from that because it seams it will be successful, so this is Anet`s problem :/
Why don’t we wait guild wars 2 releases in China before making any hasty conclusion?
i.e making expansions.
Tasty here wants to make a point, that ppl are less happy therefore they spend less in gem store than before and that NCsoft is now finally heading to the right direction because of that im not trying to say anything bad about NCsoft or Anet, just the truth…
NCSoft Q3 quarterly earnings report was just released and GW2 revenues are down 15% from the previous quarter. We now know what was the impetus for the Collaborative Development stuff that appeared in early October. Is that going to make any difference? The numbers show that the Living Story content has not been enough to stop the continuing decline in sales – if anything, the decline has accelerated.
I think at this point the only thing that can turn it all around is a new box expansion. The longer they wait to do this, the more radical the expansion will need to be to get people back.
Dont forget that the game was at discount 40% for about a week or so, this means that they had a boost in sales just before the Quarter`s financial report, which means the drop in revenue could be even more…
Well i would recommend you start with warrior or guardian, they are powerful and pretty easy to learn…
It wont fail, it goes up regardless just like the flame and frost did. Nothing more then the illusion of progress.
Too bad then, there should be this option anyway…
Ez content = bad
moderate content = boring
hard content = elitistic
my opinion = most of the community thinks
i dont like it = bad design, fire someone
<3 this community
I know right? isnt annoying?
I wouldnt say best LS ever, but yeah i liked it, it felt rewarding and different, and i really really like also the fact that many players are required to inject the antitoxin and make this LS event succeed… which you know kind of feels that the players finally can change the world around them.. im wondering what will happen if the event fail :P GJ Anet!
Ok first of all which one of these two you would like to see the most in Gw2? And second what features you would like to have.
Personally ill go with the guild halls because it will encourage the social interaction and in addition to that it will be nice to asking you guild members for suggestion to what features or upgrades the hall needs…
And the features that I would love to see is: Crafting tables, Permanent Buff Banners, and above all the ability to visually modify it! Oh Yeah!
Yeah i couldnt agree more… Hopefully the legendary armor sets will not require it…
Maybe, they SHOULD do something to keep ppl interested otherwise you know, Wildstar, EQ Next, ESO… I dont even need to explain…
I’m a bit dense, could you explain it?
Players will leave, because they are bored with nothing to do.
Yeah exactly, and all that just because all these other games will offer a new experience, not because they are better than Gw2, i dont thing they are..
Just to point out to all the doomsayers, Everquest, yes one of the grandfathers of graphical MMOs as we know them, still is quite lively with casual and hardcore players and a new expansion (#18 I think it is). If you are really worried about some next big thing killing off GW2, just look at the old MMOs that are still around releasing content every few months. WoW coughing out another expansion will do little to GW2.
WoW was awesome 2-3 years ago, NOW, is not that is bad and ppl stop playing, is that is getting old and ppl find other things to play, Gw2 is one of them… but you got to admit that the industry changed. MMOs and generally other games really dont last for more than 2 years anymore… and since Gw2 is already been out for 1.5 year and next year are all these MMOs coming out im just saying that if ANet doesnt fix couple of things players wont care so much about Gw2, is just a game anyway…… BUT i hope im wrong!
Good post, too bad nobody did not give it any attention..
Just get an expansion out that revolves around another Elder Dragon and some other cool lore, pushing the story forward. Who’s gonna be the next Khan Uhr? Can the Norn get their home back? With Zhaitan down we can finally push the Risen back more and more, perhaps eventually healing Orr?
There’s so much to work with and even though Scarlet is a decent filler arc, we need something big and I think it needs to happen soon. With so much on the horizon in the MMO genre alone it will be a very hard year to compete with all those new games and expansions.
Yeah i made a point like that 1 hour ago but they removed it, i totally agree with you, it will be hard to compete, it was good as long as it last it…
Living story is less than successful. And amet is still trying to push living story on us and trying to make it a success when it isnt delivering in so many ways?
Anet needs to ease up on living story amd give us moreof what we want…like housing or a true living world that doesnt revolve around living story and achievements. And this needs to happen rapid.
Look the truth is, living story can become something really good, and also the truth is that they can add in the game content such as Housing (which is awesome) through LS/LW, they really can. It wouldnt bother me if they were putting the content via LS, the problem is that they dont seem they know what to do next therefore thay dont add good content through LS therefore we are start getting bored…

Part of the issue here is that content that bleeds from one release to another doesn’t automatically have an “owner” in terms of which team builds it and/or maintains due to where it falls in the build schedule. That stated, Steven Waller, Angel, and I have been working with folks to bridge releases with this sort of lore-building stuff.
Expect more of that in the next few releases, and by all means I would encourage you and others to let us know how you feel about it.
Part of the problem is that we have been hearing that things are going to be revealed for such a long time. There have been promises for months that things in the story would be revealed. Flame and Frost started in January, we are finally learning that Scarlet was behind that and we still haven’t learned how she was behind it, how she got the alliances to do what she wants and why she is doing it.
Im pretty sure they got stuff going on, such as improving the lore maybe adding new events and new bosses, the problem is the company, NCsoft… these guys have other MMOs to fund and a new one upcoming next year, im pretty sure they cutting funds from here to fund their other games, and that COULD i repeat COULD BE a reason why the quality and the quantity is not satisfying and on top that this might be the reason why all these things they promised have not yet been released in Gw2… The ANet Devs look really interested in improving their game and LS/LW, obviously, but ANet is not the only factor…. :/
guys, guys, guys.
World Of Warcraft has as of this year, over 7 MILLION subscribers still active (according to mmodata.blogspot.com. And that game has been in existence for nine full years.
Unlike Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft has not got nearly as advanced graphics, voice acting, or any of the other advanced features that this game has. Additionally World of Warcraft has been coming out with story content almost continuously since its release in an effort to keep its subscribers happy.
Guild Wars 2 does not have subscribers in the way that World of Warcraft does. As such they are not as dependent on making their viewers happy the same way as Blizzard is. That said, unlike World of Warcraft who is probably slowly running out of ideas for new content, Guild Wars has a CRAP TON of stuff already available to it that we haven’t even seen yet.
1. We have as of now only defeated ONE out of SIX Elder Dragons. Two of them we aren’t even sure actually exist as more than just hear say. That is Five Full Scale Updates right there. Each with a possibility of a level cap increase and or new weapons and skills.
2. Elona is cut off from Tyria thanks to Palawa Joko. We will probably need to go in and deal with that issue as well. Probably even to the point of dealing with the Margonites a second time.
3. Cantha is cut off from Tyria, and possibly under the sway of yet another evil Emperor. Heck Shiro might have returned again somehow for all we know. Being dead already he has some advantages on the immortality deal.
4. There are at least SIX missing Gods to figure out at least for the Humans. The Norn have their Spirits to figure out. And the Asura have the whole Eternal Alchemy thing to figure out. Then the Sylvari still seem to have unresolved issues with the Nightmare Court. Not to mention the Charr’s issues with the Flame Legion. Those unresolved issues could be yet another content update.Truth be told we have a whole lot we can still do in this game that has yet to be released.
You know i like Gw2 a lot, really a lot, im just a bit bored and yes thats because most of the living story updates (not all) are not so good, if they really have so many options what do they need the collaborate development? im not trying to be offensive against Anet, on the contrary i posted many times some of my ideas in this CD post, but really, when they gonna start adding all these awesome ideas?
What will Wildstar, EQ next, eso, B&S and Archage online do to keep people interested?
Good question really, Wildstar they made the lore this way so that actually everything will be revealed to the player after level cap and they said they will keep expanding this story every 2-3 weeks, thats all i know. it sounds something like living story but the difference is that wildstar is for hardcore players so it will take them much longer to level cap.
Maybe, they SHOULD do something to keep ppl interested otherwise you know, Wildstar, EQ Next, ESO… I dont even need to explain…
So i was reading this http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_summary, if you could just animate all this story every time you release it it would already be an improvement, just saying…
Running around in circles smashing some hp-bags, so thats their great vision of an MMO in 2013?
And a year after release Anet is still trying to figure out how to design their game.Seems everyone can call himself a ‘Game Designer’ nowadays.
Please remind me, why is this game called “Guild Wars 2” again?
It’s 2013, you’re right. For the last X number of years, the entire genre has basically revolved around the trinity. That’s changed. As with all changes of this type, it takes time to learn what you can and can’t do.
The game was clearly rushed. It had to be released. That’s a business decision just about every MMO has to come to terms with. The first year was all about fixing the game. Implementing guesting, a looking for group tool, dealing with culling and fixing a myriad of bugs (which they have). People claim bugs haven’t been fixed since launch but the list of bugs that have been fixed is a long one.
Now, they’re working on making encounters better. It’s business as usual in the MMO world. You either launch with a tiny game with nothing to do, or a big game with lots of bugs which you have to fix. Then you work on improving stuff.
Because very few companies can afford five years of development on a major project without seeing some return on it.
You are actually totally right, and still this game is very enjoyable. And dont forget the collaborate development which mean they looking for ideas and content to add.
well as you can see in this thread ive done many comments which mean im following it from the first day, so i think is time to make this hard question for me and for everyone else thats im pretty sure wants to know… Dear Anet Devs you got more than plenty of ideas here, once you start putting all these ideas in an order, how long it will probably take you to start adding them in the game? because from this thread i think you can easily have half year or even more worth of content, if you delay it might be a bit late when you finally add this content simply because the players wont care about this game anymore… maybe.
In a game promoted around dragons we rarely see them around and for a new player they don’t even seem like a threat to the world. The road to reach them is long and boring so many heroes quit the journey and satisfy their fighting needs killing the trolls and boars and occasionally some grawls or Sons of swanirs
let the Dragons be the main actors let them threaten the world everywhere and without a dragon timer
What he said!!!! The problem is i dont think we gonna ever see something like that or similar to that…
What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?
Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.
I would like to see more diversity, i mean doing a dungeon and from all the chests taking the same low lvl masterwork sword is just bad, and my engineer doesnt even use sword. Ive been in situations were i was in a dungeon i did the story, path 1 and path 2 (it was CoF) all one after the other and i just got useless FINE and masterwork gear my MF was 80% plus the food i used that gives me another 30% = 110%, it was the moment i stopped dungeons and i start doing only fractals… Also i think you should add more skins and the ability to acquire them easier from dungeons… Thanks for your time you spend reading this:)
I would also like to add something for PvP, the problem for PvP exept the bad class balance and the game modes is also that you take no rewards for PvE and WvW, other games use PvP even for leveling and it works pretty well, personally i like PvP in Gw2 a lot but i always playing about 15 mins and after that im getting bored simply because i know that is waste of time and the only thing that i will take from it that i can use for WvW and PvE is a finisher…

Is pretty clear is not ONLY the permanent content through LS that ppl are asking for, but also the PERMANENT changes from their decisions, well hopefully the gw2 engine is supporting that (i dont know if it does) yeah this game is beautiful but i start playing it because they promised me living breathing world, something that i saw only few time so far:)
Is there any NA Server that does Mad King’s Labyrinth this weekend?
For a Living World, we need:
Seasons
Better Weather Effects
Dark Nights (no, not Christian Bale)
Purchasable Real Estate
Player Owned Shops
Player Owned Farms (for Livestock and Produce)
Fishing, Hunting & Farming Professions
Player-Generated Dynamic EventsFor a Living Story, we need:
An In-Game Calendar that lists recurring festival events and distinguishes them apart from the Living Story releases.
Shorter story arcs, more zone-by-zone storytelling and less focus on larger player-funneling zerg events.I’m a fan of this post. This can all happen in conjunction with larger lore/world updates that are merged with the Personal Story and focused on expanding the world with new content rather than changing or disrupting it through alterations to existing content.
Yeah, these are some interesting ideas.
These are some awesome and very player-friendly ideas..!!
[cont’d from part 1]
Phase 5 (weeks 9&10): Climax and Resolution
The players play a part in finding and enabling a solution to the crisis, a series of sequential events that culminate in a definitive climax. Putting the lid on a cataclysmic sequence of events shouldn’t feel like janitorial work— it should contribute to a sense of accomplishment and finality. This should be reflected by some permanent alteration to the game world.
Phase 6 (weeks 11 & 12): Epilogue
This wraps up the loose ends of the story arc, allows players to bid farewell to NPC allies, offers latecomers a chance to catch up on limited-time content, and shows a restoration of some damaged or devastated parts of the game world to their former functionality, or perhaps a new functionality. It also functions as a period where the Foreshadowing phase begins for a new, separate story arc. Because it arguably requires the least demands for new content, the epilogue also represents a period of time where the next arc can be tweaked and polished.
These ideas aren’t terribly detailed, mainly representing a strategy of sorts. In many ways this structure already resembles what already exists in the Living Story, which is why I think it can be made to work. Some might argue that a 12-week schedule is too long, but it is an alternative to the disjointed 2-4 week schedule that currently exists.
Thats a very intelligent way to keep players interested and also keep them log in at least every week to see whats next… Is quite similar to what happened with the tower of nightmares but in a more precise way and focused in the lore even more… In addition to that it would be good to see the actions of the players from the previous phase has an impact to the next one….
update notes for dec 10th patch shines light on the problem…
Introduce ascended weapons…celestial gear… laurel and other time gated items… have people make a build and spend all their time attaining said items… implement a patch and totally destroy everyones current builds and make all the time they spent getting said gear now useless and pointless…
Is not useless at all is just content for hard-core players and not for casuals that gw2 attracts the most currently
1) Ascended gear.
2) Excessive particle effects obscuring combat encounters.
3) Emphasis on Zerg gameplay.
4) The implementation of interrupts and other soft control options.
5) Poor performance of archery options for rangers.
6) Ascended gear.
Yeah i think if they had introduced ascended skins instead of grindy stat oriented gear would work much better…
I hear a lot of complaining that people quit playing GW2, and from the personal experience of my previous 80-man guild, that’s true. After two months since the release I was the only one playing, and after almost a year I’m only one playing.
So my question to you is, why do you think people stop playing Guild Wars 2?
I had many discussions with my friends about issues like that and we made some really good conclusions:
-The problems are many but there are some factors that affect that the most, unfortunately as another guy said before the days were 10 million+ players used to play an mmo are gone.
- First of all because there are so many mmos out there that the population is divided
-Also the ppl of our generation are getting bored of a game much quicker than 10 years ago and thats for many reasons such as today we expect to much from a game than 10 years ago were we had only one PS2 a or a game boy color and we could play super mario for months non-stop.
-Also is fault of the companies, companies dont see games and mmos (and not only games) as something timeless at all, they see it as something consumable that will last for3-4 years and then a new one will come out and make them profits, which means their effort of making it attractive and good is not as good as it used be, see WoW for example, blizzard managed 8 years ago to create something good with proper development and marketing and there are many players that still playing it but even WoW start losing players, nsoft made gw2 1.5 year ago and now for next year already got another game coming out that they hyping about it and advertising it massively.
My only hopes for a game that will entertain me and will keep entertaining me for years to come are upon EQ Next if even that one fails then ill just stop hoping and start playing RPGs or whatever, above all they are just games that are just for our entertainment nothing more…
- I like the warrior, elementalist and mesmer changes, and i would like to see more pvp useful changes for mesmer
- I dont really like the guardian changes, i thought that guarding was a pretty balanced class this changes might make them OP, but we have to wait until the release to see if thats the case cause i might be wrong.
Ok whats with the lag the last couple of days? first time i lag so much:/
ok thx a lot ill try that
Is that achievement bugged or am i doing something wrong? i jumped over the waves successfully without getting hit and knocked more than 10 times and only counted two.
(edited by Immensus.9732)
King of the hill would definitely work in GW2. PvP is basically designed for that.
Probably with a new map or existing maps with only the middle point enabled.
An other possibility would be an Orb so the fight is more mobile and not focused on one point the whole time, because i think that could get boring after a short time.Capture the flag could be a possible game mode as well.
- Every team gets a treasure, Gold coins, Orbs, …
- There need to be some people defending the treasure (bunkers)
- Others have to get the treasure from the enemy (DPS)
- If the enemy breaks through, CC could be use stop them.
MOBA Same as Dota/LoL, with minion waves etc.
- Level is fixed 80, you receive trait and skillpoints instead
- You start the game with a blanc white armor and you have to buy new stuff with the gold from your kills.
- You only have weapon skill #1 just like a lvl1 character
- The only thing that is free of charge are those basic weapon, so you can get every weapon from the beginning
Smaller Scale battles
- 1v1 (duel) and 3v3 would be nice
larger scale Battles GvG – Castles
- Every Guild has their own Castle with a Guild lord.
- You have to kill the enemy Lord to win
- There are Quagan Camps to support you, etc.
- Castle could be the Guild-halls and you are able to modify the castles so they are unique.
Just like a small WvWlarger scale Battles GvG – Ships
- There will be a new Science Tree for the guild
- Every Guild has their own Ship (probably some different designs to choose from faster+weaker vs. slow and heavy)
- It is possible to build jollyboats so you can have smaller squads and different tactics
- One person has to steer the ship
- The ships are full of canons etc. and you have to destroy the enemies ship
ookk this is so goooood!!
After a long 2 month hiatus caused by GW2 burnout and its living story, I’ll just give my 2 cents as to what burned me about it:
· Living Story doesn’t feel alive at all. I know the devs intentions are good, but what’s the point of changing something in a map when it will be gone in 2 weeks?
· Irelevant stories that have very little weight or importance in a world under dragon siege. I can’t for the life of me understand how it’s been 1 year since GW2 came out and we still don’t know squat about any other dragon beside Zhaitan.
· Too many celebrations. Seriously, drop some serious content every once in a while. Everything feels like a gag or a sitcom. I know it’s fun to find a reference here and there, but please, just do some serious content every now and then.
· Cheap-ish content. What’s fun in slaying 100 [insert name here] or collect 100 [insert item here]? Where’s our grindless GW2 promissed in the manifesto?
· Having to keep up with 2 week content. This might be my biggest buzz killer. I love getting achievements, but I also love enjoying the game at my own pace. Having to play at Arenanet’s pace of delivering irrelevant 2 week content so it just vanishes into thin air really puts me off. Please Arenanet, could we get an expansion? Please? :‘[ Loved Cantha and Elona so much due to the change of world, setting, plot and all that it’d just be amazing…just change your Living Story for a proper, big expansion.
I agree with that in every aspect and one additional comment is that from the suggestions in this thread so far i see that people wouldn`t bother to have content in more than every 2 weeks if that content was better…
Thats my second reply to that topic, i wanted to add that as part of end game more lvl 80 dungeons are good idea as well…
I would like to see the living world changing areas or even better adding new ones, i would also like more world bosses and generally group events related to living story and in addition to that an in game timer i think is essential cause everyone is always checking websites to check when teq is spawn shatterer etc.
maybe indeed adding more mechanics is the answer, although i enjoy tequatl every single time but thats personal preference…. i do many world bosses every day and the truth is the ones that are not challenging are the ones im really getting bored, from the other hand there are guilds that kill teq everyday even twice per day the problem is they always do that at overflows where and this makes it hard to other players join in…
Is Anet ever going to make world bosses or at least most of them even harder such as Tequatl? i mean yes if you farming champions maybe a hard boss will consume your time but is too bad the fact that a gigantic boss can be killed in less than 7-8 mins (sometimes even by just AFKing) when you were expecting an epic and fun battle!
I really think they should change the way that we acquire the precursors, image someone that have done everything has all the gifts and he just spends hundreds of gold all the time for weeks and still not getting it because of bad luck!!!! something like that shouldnt be matter of luck….
Thx guys, i join TTS and i also found the http://gw2dragons.com/dragons/leaderboard website very very helpfull
ook thx a lot!
Is there any server still doing tequatl? unfortunately i joined the game 2 weeks before this update therefore my lvl wasnt high enough to attend it! and i cant find anyone to do it…
For PvP:
1. Class Balance, especially Warriors, are way too OP!!!
2. Guild V Guild, there is a huge amount of people asking for it!
-I think is good that PvP is going to become esport
For WvW:
1.More abilities for commanders
2.New WvW maps!
