Invoker.5462

As a warrior who has played a number of builds for quite some time- i have come to find that ranger seems to be that class i fear the most.

It seems to have qualities that an overpowered class would have- long range. Heavy dps- and strangely maintaining that high dps against something in heavy armor. (Does heavy armor even matter anymore?)

And then- when i do close the gap i’m fighting what seems like some sort of magic samurai- i’m not experienced enough to know precisely what it is but

A. I cannot knock them down
B. They seem to have some sort of skill like “endure pain” (warrior) where they are not taking and dmg

I’m sorry- i dont mean to be lame. But i’m going to bring in another MMO for context.

Archeage… Primevials (archers) in archeage had a similar setup where they burst down someone with arrows but certain classes which countered this and closed the gap would usually win.

It just seems a bit strange that when i get up close to these long range high damage archers they are just as effective as i am in melee range (if not better)!

In high level 5v5 premades i’m sure there is some sort of “balance” but for random search games rangers seems to be unstoppable if they know what they’re doing.

Invoker.5462

Today- as i’m playing with my typical hambow- i come across a team consisting of 4 warriors, two of which were using greatswords.

Is it wrong that deep down inside- before any combat began that i knew i was going to win? Is it wrong to think that facing more warriors means an easier match?

Well in this case it sure felt like it. For once i was able to truly see why so many people make fun of great sword warriors. It was so easy! If you know the class- its actually pretty difficult to get hit by anything substantial.

The only thing i couldnt dodge was gs 2 skill- where they whirl foward but everything else- even when it hit it seemed to only tickle my health.

Eventually i was able to fight the two gs warriors 2v1. It was simple- Cripple one, lay down conditions. When they got close i’d just stun and i think one had stability for a little while but once it was gone he was on the ground too. When they tried to hundred blades i’d just interrupt or roll away. Sometimes they would just miss altogether.

Were they bad players? I dont know- but it really felt evil being able to win them over so easily. The fact that one of their weapon’s (the gs) was like a big napkin that they swung around.

Seriously ANET, if someone actually gets hit by the GS they should be taking a whole heck of a lot more dmg than they are now.

I find warrior fun and different as it is the only class in the game which can rely purely on melee only. In fact, there is a glaring lack of melee prowess in the game overall and when i use Warrior with Combat mode i feel like i’m playing a really well made Dynasty Warriors lol (minus a few hundred bodies)

I guess its just my play style. I tried Engi, Mesmer, and Guardian but their approaches to combat seemed really strange to me. I guess i get a little more “plugged in” to the game than most people a prefer a specific style based on my personality- rather than the number’s it displays or what other people think.

I’m also pretty excited to find other warriors because i fantasize about one day having a line battle or shield wall.

As a warrior i smirk when im surrounded in spve because i know the more they throw at me the stronger i get.

I also feel like Warrior has an insane amount of mobility which can outrun any class by using bulls rush- sword 2 – greatsword charge and greatsword spin foward.

Overall i like the warrior and as an added bonus if i ever have to take a break i can just come back and pick it up easily.

PS. I can almost guarantee a hundred blades with a number of CC that the warrior has. I also believe that 2 warriors in PVP can team up to pin down a player and hundred blades them- killing an individual faster than any other burst i can think of coming out of a two players.

I.E Warrior 1 bull rushes enemy then CC with hammer while warrior two uses Quickness/hundred blades and arcing blade. Dude thats like 10-15k DPS right there! 2 seconds of that and ur dead!

But i do think that certain weapons on warrior need a buff like rifle and mace.

Yikes!

Every time i see someone ask about how what class is “best” and see similar responses from different people i can’t hep but wonder if that even matters- Shouldn’t we be more focused on the gameplay elements we truly love and not what looks best number wise?

I digress- there are some things rifle warrior Cough.. That are just so bad that even though i may love their concept or even game-play style to death- the numbers are just SO INCREDIBLY disappointing that seeing one used is about as rare as finding 20 bucks in the street.

But i ask you, Guild Wars 2 community- do you faith that H.O.T. will breathe new life into some of these mechanics? Balance and rework every element of what we already have? And change the way we look at certain weapon/class combos?

Another thing worth mentioning is Southsun Survival- another off the beaten path gameplay element which is completely optional yet so fun and refreshing.

Despite their underdog status, I absolutely adore necromancer. so much fun to play and pretty diverse, too.

Everyone and their mother has a warrior, they’re easy to play, boring and bland.

HUGE opinion there lol. Extremely vague without much detail whatsoever. This- ladies and gentlemen, is what we try to avoid here on the forums.

I would strongly recommend to ANYONE playing this game to play as a warrior. I feel as though many of the mechanics in this game favor a more mobile class- i also LOVE the feeling of being able to stand toe to toe with anything and butcher it.

While the Rifle and the Bow are a bit strange on a Warrior- i ADORE the rifle for killing world bosses as i’m not very fond of looking at a dragons foot the entire time- i like to sit back and blunderbuss that mother kitten.

I’m also GREATLY against having an AI companion as a mechanic in my gameplay- i like to be COMPLETELY self reliant and wish for other- real players to follow my lead as i burst into combat with axe and sword- shouting FOR GREAT JUSTICE along the way.

BONUS: Screenshot of another warrior and i exploring a cave.

As the title asks, which story is the best? The game has been out so long that i feel this is a valid question. Particularly for those curious lore lovers who have played all three of them.

As i’m finishing up the vigil story, i’ve been looking into other story’s as well. My curiosity is peaked for the whispers- but as the saying goes- the grass is always greener.

This question focuses on quality of lore, entertainment, and immersion. Not a single Fok is given over what armor skin or weapon comes with it.

Key Farming- My thoughts

Key farming

Its been around for a while but as i just came back from a break i was made aware of what key farming actually is. For those who don’t know- its speedrunning up to a certain quest in the human questline in order to obtain the award (which is a key).

Those with practice can average about 1 key every 20 mins or 3 keys per hour….

I feel like this should be reworked- i don’t know how exactly, but i think there is something to be said about the overall health of the game when one of the single most rewarding things to do is a tedious speedrun on a new character every 20 mins.

The big picture is most people can obviously make about $10 an hour at a job and double the amount of this method as you can get 3 per hour using the in-game method and about 6 keys with $10.

But i still dont like the principle of it. Guild Wars 2 is a massive game with tons of different things to do- why can’t you just remove this award or make it once per account? I think the drop rates in the world could use a little buff- maybe increase the frequency so people get more than 1-2 key a year off doing normal game-play stuff (i.e. getting keys from mob drops)?

I don’t really know how this effects the econonomy- i guess it just floods the market with all sorts of convenience stuff- and the people farming these keys are likely making a LOT more gold than someone who just enjoys the game normally.

-GuildWars 2 is very casual compared to the traditional MMORPG. You can get the top tier gears with moderate effort, and they are only 5% better than the second tier gears which is extremely easy to get. Moreover, It encourages players to help each others (revive system ) and everyone get relatively the same amount of reward when doing something together, so players are not as competitive and nicer.

Guild Wars 2 is casual if that’s the play style your going by. Perhaps you have chosen to be casual? I find that the game caters to both the casual and the hardcore. The skill ceiling is actually quite high at the upper level of PVP and i bet not anyone can come up with a perfect PVE group without really putting in the effort. While i’m not familiar with too much of the late game PVE i remember when i was playing a while back that many, many runs in Gw2 dungeons were unsuccessful, much more so than the unsuccessful runs i had in WoW.

In the case of GW2 i have found that the community here is somewhat of a bastion away from what has become of most of the gaming community- People here are decent, nice, and helpful quite often.

I have come back from a 2 year break and this is my second week. I have had people guide me to vistas, volunteer on lowbie story mode dungeons, and of course, answer my noob questions.

Even more- people in gw2 are likely to be “light” roleplayers, not going full on roleplay but rather acting in character as select times to increase overall immersion.

In contrast- my 2 years spent in WoW a while ago i found a large portion of the playerbase to be like zombies, some of which didn’t even seem all that happy about what they were playing yet ran several raids per day. It got real awkward before i quit, i remember i could confront with 100 players in a day and not socially interact with a single one.

On a broader note, games in general i.e H1z1, Dota 2, Rust, Archeage and a number of first person shooters are filled with toxicity- trolls and people who find that yelling and spamming and just generally being annoying is entertaining. Quite sad.

It is my opinion that in its current state (as its clearly been updated over the years) Gw2 is by a large margin the best all around game that i own. The fact that its so well polished and that they spend the extra effort to add social stimuli to the game i.e the harp, the bobble head thing ect- shows that these developers are EXTREMELY active and caring about their product- and i think that love for their game spills over into the community.

It’s hard to believe that a game which is 3 years old is the best one i own but Arena net has really stepped up.

P.s. Havent seen a single bot! This used to be a MAJOR problem, glad its fixed!

No, great games don’t inspire great communities. Case in point are games like LoL, Smite, Dota2, WOW, diablo 3 (post patches) and etc.

What inspires good behavior and good community are game mechanics that encourage good behavior such as ones in GW2.

Those game’s are not really all that “great”. Sure, the Moba scene is a fun one for many people but they are more like indie titles without much depth. The substance of a Moba comes from how simple yet complex its basic game mechanics can be. The items and item recipes can actually be completely removed from the genre and it still works (HoTs).

World of Warcraft on the other hand – now you have an argument. I can’t really say that its not a great game. But my overall opinion which would take several pages to write would state that for a sum of all its parts and design decisions, Guild Wars 2 far greater than WoW. And you’re right, the Gw2 dev team seems to have taken major leaps to promote a good community. And i’m glad its payed off.

Invoker.5462

Not really.

Toxic behaviour is proportional to dependence on other players.
This dependence is low in GW2, and the community is decent because of that.

If your fun in a game depends on others, you are much more, lets say, critical towards them. Which in turn snowballs fast into toxic behaviour.

Mobas are toxic hellholes because your game depends on 4 other people not kittening up.

What your stating sounds believable in context but there are actually a great deal of player dependencies in this game. From the simple “hey i’m lost” which i mentioned in relation to vistas- to someone random selflessly guiding noobies through a story mode dungeon and watching the cut-scenes with us.

Even on a more extreme end of the spectrum- pvp in this game is actually extremely player reliant and so are difficult dungeons. Out of the 150 matches of pvp i crammed in these past two weeks i only met one truly toxic individual but the rest of the team just went on and joked about it. In other- lesser insulting comments i usually see some other person saying “Wow calm down” or “Oh you must think you’re soooo goood” In other words, players sticking up for players.

Thus, the community of Gw2 is extremely friendly in this regard and i do believe your assumption is false about the dependency’s.

Stealth in MMO's will always be overpowered

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Invoker.5462

Stealth is = but less offensively viable than complete invulnerability, allows you to fight on you’re terms, has no immediate counter skill (no ability to keep someone from stealthing or to reveal stealth players) thus making it one of those abilities thats always safe to use. And as an added bonus- gives you time to think about you’re next move (clockless chess). This is why stealth/invisibility as a mechanic will always be overpowered.

A couple of things.

1) You will need to explain on what terms stealth is “widely accepted as not being see[n] anymore.”

2.) Stealth is not clockless chess in GW2. As was stated above, the traits that favor stealth as a mechanic all sacrifice damage output in exchange for longer duration. Most stealths last less than three seconds unassisted, with the minor outlier having an interruptible cast time and Shadow Refuge essentially marking a wide circle with “here is where the thief is hiding.”

3.) It is not equal to invulnerability in any respect, because stealthed players can be downed, killed, have condis applied, and take damage like regular players.

4.) [Sic em] and [Utility Goggles] are direct counters to stealth. Other less noticible counterplay include using illusionary wave, PBS, or another knockback skill to cripple Shadow Refuge stealth due to the fact that projectiles track if initiated before the target lock is lost.

5.) Stealth is not always safe to use. Feathers cause an effect that show a thief is in the area, as do blinding powder and SR. Hide in shadows does not, but it has a cast time.

6.) Thieves are all about positioning and using circumstance/terrain and strategy to down players. That is an inherent feature of their class, not a symptom of bad design. They cannot facetank much of anything, less so if they are not Shadow Arts Specced. They have no invulns, no blocks. Everything they have as active defense borders on stealth or evades (That cost them initiative, which they also need to attack).

IMO, I don’t think its overpowered at all. I play both a warrior and a thief, and going from a person that only played warrior into thief gave me a newfound respect for all the junk thieves have to put up with to be more than a nuisance, especially against tanky warriors.

As much as i enjoyed your narrow minded response based on theives (its ok, everyone here thinks this a thief thread). I’m going to jot a bit on a more contextual note.

Stealth- invisibility- whatever.

Lets think about what it means to be a skilled player. How do you want to be skilled? Do you want to be the type of player who has a quick wit, the twitchy nature to be able to block or counter the swing of a sword mid swing?

Or maybe you’re the type of person who looks at the bigger picture- an overwatch. You’re strategy makes up for your lack of twitch skills because you know exactly what the enemy is thinking. In fact- you’ve already set traps and know precisely what your enemy is about to do.

Lets dive a bit deeper, stay with me…

PVP combat, in its most basic skillfull form, can be found a fantastic and long lived title known as Mount&Blade Warband. In Mount and Blade you control the swing of your sword by its direction (up, down, left right) and the direction to parry (up, down, left, right)..

TingTing- thats the noise you hear when two skillfull players begin fighting. Parry after parry.. But wait, this can’t go on forever can it? Don’t worry, there’s also a mechanic to feign a swing, basically swing halfway then stop to fool the enemy. This, combined with tricky body movements, ends with a victor usually within about 40 seconds at the highest skill level. (most player’s are dead within 10 seconds, as they have not practiced their ability to parry)

This is how i see the basis of all combat in every game. Someone swings, other’s respond, and its a good old back and forth fight until the winner comes out on top.

But what happens when you can’t see the other person swinging? What if you don’t know he’s there at all? How can you possibly even begin to plan around something you don’t even know exists? Seeing is half the battle- is it not? What if the entire sword swinging mechanism was entirely invisible.. Every move, every play, gone from sight.

Welcome to stealth/invisibility in MMO’s

I could go on and on. I hope you get the point by now- and stop talking about thieves.

with Warrior being one of the best roamers and in sPvP bruiser Hambow builds are one of the most overpowered things in the game right now.

What?

The best roamers in WvW;

1.Thief
2.Engineer
3.Mesmer
4.Elementalist
5.Ranger
6.Warrior
7.Guardian
8.Necro

Mesmer, Ranger and Elementalist are very debatable, and perhaps guardian should be way higher too, but they lack mobility which is an important tool. But warrior is so outclassed in fighting by the first 5 classes that being mobile is just not enough to call it ‘one of the best’, IMO. Especially when you are talking 1vX. Even in 1v1

And hambow OP? This is new to me

Well lets talk about 1vX and hambow’s then
Let me show you how I play hambow 1vX

And thiefs on nr1 of roamers ? LOL Dont make me laugh!
I eat thiefs while sleeping ;/

Hey bud- i went ahead and watched your vid- similar to my note about blacktruth, that theif in the start of the video played into everything you did. You were standing in one spot mashing ability’s and the thief just stood in it. Why would he do that? Then we came out of stealth he hit you one time and retreated for no reason.

These types of video’s spread such an awful impression of how classes actually preform and for some reason i have never seen a single warrior video with commentary explaining each fight- it’s usually just some kittened dubstep showing off some big crits or something.

*Blacktruth enlightened me that that viable aggressive melee builds do exist, but with close analysis i found that these are just “fun” builds that exceed overwhelmingly against someone who play’s into everything you do. While also lacking the ability to buff allies in any fashion nor having any condition/boon removal threat.

This is in essence what a Greatsword/Hammer build is. It’s fun and aggressive until you meet the Ranger/One of the Condition Kings/the Evasion Thief/PU Mesmer or the Turret Engineer. Then you come back to reality and realize the meta builds are required because of such focus.

+1

If you view any of the outnumbered video’s done by proven players- you’ll notice that in each one the warrior is usually the least threatening and actually gets put down as a priority as it so easy to kill.

Revisiting the topic- i remember seeing some video about this about a year ago when Archeage hype was building up. A big debate on a youtube video about stealth as a mechanic in MMO’s.

1. It’s become an accepted mechanic that “stealth” or “invisibility” is more or less not being see anymore. It’s like -poof- now you’re gone. In its defense- Blizzard did an excelent job in Starcraft and Heroes of the storm in making invisible units still noticeable to the keen eye.

Some MMO’s also cause invisible player’s to show if they are too close to another player.

The problem here is that while invisibility is not exactly invulnerability- in many cases it is. Not the type of invulnerability like getting a star in super mario- but actually a bit different in execution- while you can’t attack, its obvious that you won’t be attacked AND no one knows where you are.

Which gives you everything you need to be as oppertunistic as you want. Lets talk about some of the little things.

1. Many player’s (even good ones) can choke from time to time, misclick or make a mistake. This is drastically reduced if the player can begin his attack whenever he want’s from any position he wants. You can even imagine in your head the precise rotation you want to do for the given situation.

So in other words- its like you’re playing chess and the clock doesnt start until you want it to.

2. Being able to disengage opens up a MASSIVE amount of opportunities for you.

A. Enemy just used a buff you can’t fight against? Wait it out
B. Odds somehow turned against you based on position or outnumbered? Wait it out

These mechanics became well known to me as i became the top Arena player in Archeage playing a class called “Shadowblade” which used stealth and disables. I always fought on my terms and that allowed me to potentially beat any class- even those which countered mine specifically.

In conclusion.

As someone who began gw2 3 years ago playing engineer non-stop. I eventually decided that i’d had enough of it, came back from a year long break and decided to make what i’d originally thought about being in the first place- A warrior.

Now those of you who remember back in the day- Warriors were actually a pretty scary adversary on the front line of any WvW front- particularly mid ranged groups. Warrior “squads” Acted like Calvary swirling through frontlines with greatswords and effectively breaking the monotony.

This was sort of an inspiration to me. Warriors in this game seemed like they fit the role of something that is rarely seen or played in other MMO’s. An all in arms fighter which excelled in full on aggressive play-styles. Typically in other MMO’s the arms archetype is usually not strong enough and people opt to play tankier classes or ranged classes as they usually beat the arms archetype using class specific counter’s like blocking and kiting.

Things have changed quite a bit with Warriors in Gw2 since then.

1. Warriors have had their greatsword nerfed hard (without any re-distribution). In other words, direct, merciless nerfs.

2. Due to the lack of great sword power- many builds which worked well with greatsword (a HUGE number of builds) became obsolete, and now you’re forced into using a bow to be effective in PVP* (My biggest source being metabuilds.com)

Conclusion/Solution

If you’re thinking of making a Warrior- you should only make one if you’re interpretation of such a class involves being a supportive player. Otherwise you will play for a while and slowly realize that you do just about everything worse than another class DPS and SUBSTAIN wise

I.E

Attempt to make a DPS warrior? Theif and Ranger are far more effective at raw dmg while guardian can DPS just as well AND provide slight supportive effects to allies in the process.

Attemp to make a SUSTAIN warrior? Guardians have surpassed warriors in just about every regard- if you need proof of this simply tune in to some 2014 tournaments and witness for yourself how incredible guardians are at staying alive.

Thats my piece- it saddens me that i have wasted a week with a class which i thought had a completely different play-style than what i was expecting. This will be my last post here as i will no longer be attempting to play this class any longer.

When I made my warrior a couple weeks ago I imagined myself being a frontline hack and slasher with one aim-… to fight and to kill (preferably with a large weapon or two small ones) sort of like what I’d expect a warrior to be out of any generic culture where the term “warrior” is used.

Instead I think I have created some sort of cleric or perhaps a combat medic. The only builds which seem to be working involve use of a bow and horn. The build “hambow” seems like it’s aim is to push the enemy away and shoot with the bow for damages rather than enjoying a bloody trade-off face to face.

Either way I’m shouting a lot, placing banners, and in many cases I’m actually doing more at a distance than I am up close.

I’m not even sure what rampage is supposed to do but nobody is using it. Signet of rage is making me run faster and buffing me up- but where is my hack and slash in your face warrior? Why has no one found an optimal build where warrior jumps in and wreaks havoc?

Why do devs keep injecting PVE into PVP?!

Turrets, pets, undead, whatever. All these mechanics where you spawn an AI driven character into the world are going to keep these type of games out of the serious realm when it comes to PVP.

I think for the biggest realization of this came after about 1000 1v1 arena matches in Archeage. Call it gimmicky game, sure. But the point here is how much of an advantage the AI character gave.

-In context…

At some point during about month 2 of archeage players began using pets in 1v1 arena. This was frowned upon by many and somehow the overall shame factor of it caused the use of pets to die down. However, some observations made it clear that PVE does not belong in PVP, particularly in a tab targeting style game.

Clear cut reasons-

1. Tab targeting systems are never perfect and even the absolute best player’s are prone to hitting the AI character (pet, turret ect) with an attack that was 100% intended for the actual player. In 1v1 Archeage- at the top level, you would sometimes see the number one in the world players hit the little pet running around, its an easy mistake to make and can cost you the game.

2. AI character’s have one purpose- auto-attacking. This leaves me to believe that in the idea/brainstorming phase of development, ideas ran out and in order to add more diversity someone thought that injecting pve elements into the pvp elements would make the game more exiting. It doesn’t

Lets take a game like Dota 2 for example- it’s AI which is readily programmed to run across the map and auto attack can be manipulated in a way that is purposefully and carefully designed to add multiple elements to the gameplay experience- but any player spawn AI characters are controlled directly by the player- thus making them more or less and extra arm and leg for the player to control. Can you imagine if some class in Dota 2 could spawn self reliant AI characters? Would probably take away from the amount of skill involved in the game.

TL;DR too many player spawned, self reliant AI characters are being put into our pvp games.

This is a game i have not played in a long-longgg time. I recently burned through some other MMO’s and i’m ready to come back to this old standard- but i fear the worst for myself…

Sadly- and unfortunately, i quit about 2 years ago as my engineer was not performing how i wanted him to. Long story short, i found i did great by playing to my classes strengths, it wasn’t a matter of balance, it was a matter of disappointment.

My combat consisted of about 2 different builds

-PvP build which i used grenades- fantastic for the big wvw stuff but so incredibly shallow and repetitive. I wanted to believe i could combo this with my wrench but this type of combat was so unorthodox i just found it quite tiresome. A class which sucks at both melee and ranged combat which excel at using both in combination with each other- essentially making me the greatest puss of all time in order to beat someone and putting a ton of effort and practice into doing so (far more than a warrior or ranger)

-PvE build where i just laid down bombs. I found this highly effective and actually allowed me to kill things far quicker than any other class. But then again- a shallow and boring way to play. It’s as if my entire virtual life was spent making a poop trail which ended up killing my enemies very quickly, so quickly that changing for fun’s sake was overshadowed by this builds effectiveness.

Has engineer changed?

Another question is how the leveling is. I was told a long time ago that this game encouraged a second play through (which i hate, i never liked rerolling) and i was thinking about trying another class with a more exciting combat role.

I don’t know what to tell you. I personally like the fact that the entire game is open to the entire gamer population as something fun and casual that can be done and which does not have a massively absurd entry barrier for the end game content the way that games like Final Fantasy XI (horrible loot system), Perfect World International (best gear in the game costs over 1,500 USD and is absolutely required for end game content), and certain other games. At least with this game everyone has an even shot at participating in almost everything, and you can reasonably farm for all high end items, if you spend enough time working at it without having to shell out 500+ USD.

You missed the point entirely but okey

You could start a new discussion to talk about casual content ya know

Um… no, I really can’t. Your entire point of making the game harder (which it is still anything but easy) hinges on the fact that you want to make the game more like the standard fare of the MMO Genre from around a decade ago.

Well I hate to tell you this, but I will personally start the picket line that storms Arena Net’s Texas Headquarters if they ever think about making the game as difficult as Perfect World International, or heck even just Final Fantasy XI. Especially if they make it as difficult as Final Fantasy XI was a few years back. We do not need single boss fights that take over 18 hours of continuous fighting of them to discover that we still can’t beat them in one sitting.

Well can we so called “Hard game lovers” have more than 5% of the land to die on a few times a day? Maybe we could split the world in half. You have your side where you can do whatever at anytime, and we have our side where it takes an hour to traverse a a few yards

You could always ask them to make the Tower of Nightmares permanent you know. That seemed pretty hard when I went into it.

“A tower of nightmares” Maybe its best i stay away from this title…

A challenging MMO to play. Woah, sounds nuts nowadays. Ya know, venturing into a monster cave that im actually afraid of.

I recently tried to get some friends together to play this game for old times sake and no one bit. After the exploration buzz, the few, yet challenging and entertaining story quests, short-lived funburst dungeons which were fun the first two times, it was like Guild Wars 2 caused aids, NO one i knew was playing.

Ghost shores, the one place i got to that was like “Woah”. Really liked the place, most of the people i knew who still played were scattered across the world, roaming effortlessly through meaningless mobs.

Then the ghost shores. Like the one place where i felt compelled to hold hands with a nearby player, make use of pitstops, and appreciate exploration and running into random groups. 5% of the game that seemed right. Too bad the theme gets old after a while, it gets so old roaming through this 5% of the game all the time.

Thus, the scouring of PvP through the culling years, was the end. No one i knew even spoke the words Guild Wars for over a year, and now i think of all the good times i had here for 2 days, the current pool of games is getting dull.

There is a massive gap between this gen of games and the next gen, gamers are in limbo and there really is no go-to game that is’nt getting dull by now. Here i am, i want to come back to this game, but no one else wants to. It’s just too darn easy to be fun.

So i have been thinking recently (for no apparent reason) as to why me, and all of my awesome friends i came into guild wars 2 suddenly left the game, and never returned.

I have drawn my conclusion about why my feelings for the game waned and why some nights just started boring me to tears. Ill keep this as short as i can.

-When i joined guild wars 2, the adventure, the newness, the talk of “lets do this! It looks fun!” Feel was what really felt awesome, the best gaming memories of my life came from week 1 in gw2

- week 2 to week 10 were iffy, strangely enough we began to get separated, we have different likes and dislikes. While some wanted to go do a dungeon, i felt more like WvW or exploring the dynamic events. Eventually, things became dull, even after transitioning into a killer guild, i began to realize the game just didnt have much of meta, or one that was fun if applicable.

-week 11 foward, i eventually finished my story quest as a last resort to find some excitement, and it payed off well. Shortly after, however, the distaste of doing the same thing over and over (especially with the bot debacle), just didnt fit my style of play, it never has!

CONCLUSION AND TLDR

I want to relive those feelings of week 1, i want to start again as something completely new, with empty bags and nothing to lose. I want to do it with someone else, thats the way its meant to be played.

So join me, if you have skype or something that’s a plus, lets start anew and experience Guild wars 2 as if it was a new game! (preferred server, magumma)

One of the problems I see repeatedly on the forums is people equating what is a matter of taste with some sort of failure on the devs part. Let’s face it, no matter what they release, it will never please absolutely everyone.

I see nothing wrong with complaining about the content as long as people stay away from hyperbole, but personally I think it’s more productive for people to tell the devs what they DO want over just complaining about what they don’t want.

Not directing this at you OP, just throwing it out there.

This is correct, but very vague. While i DONT want content that plays itself, i also DO want a more dynamic world. I bought GW2, along with my friends, becouse we watched videos made by ANET which told us we would be fending off massive waves of dynamic enemies to protect key towns and structures.

What we didnt know, is that Guild Wars 2 just became WoW with a twist.

They got their money they just don’t care anymore…

Based on what evidence? More content every two weeks? The introduction of the wallet. The LFG tool is coming. A redesign of T’quatl.

This must be some strange usage of the words “don’t care” that I haven’t previously been aware of.

You may not like the content or find it fun but the amount of content and the work that goes into creating that kind of content implies a work ethic quite different from what you claim.

Well lets try not to insult here. There is a thing called behaviorism when it comes to money and quality. Thats besides the point though

They can release content every day of the week, but if the content is stale and repetitive, it will be shunned by those gamers who do not have that kind of taste to do the same thing all the time.

My point is that Anet didn’t really have to go and redo T’quatl. They’re not doing it because they don’t care.

The problem is two fold. Someone is allowed to say Anet doesn’t care without any evidence whatsoever, and I present some circumstantial evidence to show at least some caring and you’re going to try to take me to task? lol

Let’s put it another way. Anet is not a sentient being. Anet is a company. The company has around 300 employees. Certainly more than 250. Let’s say 250.

So what are the odds that everyone at Anet doesn’t care? Every single person. Because we know Anet can’t care…it has no mind. It’s a fictious existence.

Throwing around words like don’t care without evidence is just plain silly.

This tends to happen a lot on gaming forums, but the fact of the matter is, the devs “dont” care, they didnt ask you what you wanted, they didnt ask me, or anyone else we know. Can you prove me wrong? Let me know when you find evidence showing people asked for anything in the upcoming patch.

they need to reconsider the reward for the time consuming world boss, dungeons etc… otherwise they will be abandoned after few tries because people will later find it would be worth more farming champions, just like they did to Ascalonian Catacomb dungeon, they made it hard, now it is more or less abandoned. people doing it only for Gift of Ascalon…..

While i agree that rewards are an important part of the game for most gamer’s, I also dislike when lazy design is covered up by a special reward at the end…

Sadly, i have seen people do some pretty braindead runs in Tera for months just to get a single set of gear. To each his own, but to appeal to the majotity, the whole package needs to be quality, not just the reward.

Seems like a very on rail experience based on whats seen so far that will get repetitive after the first time no doubt. The amount of creation here by the devs is frighteningly low, management needs to encourage some better brainstorming. Guild wars 2 coulda been the best MMO, but the devs slacked far too long while they had the launch audience.

My rant stops there, and while i dont want to seem like the kid who didn’t get his candy, i have seen what attracts people to games. Achievements and long on-rail objective based fights are a very shallow, almost gimmicky attempt to step back into the spotlight.

I would have liked to see things mentioned to be good enough, but when the devs are telling me with enthusiasm that a shock wave is going to get bigger as the fight goes on, im thinking “and?” then he goes on to say, " we wanted to force players to fight in front of the dragon"

While most posters would come up with a “this is how i want it”. I dont have that kind of suggestion. Sadly, my imagination for MMORPG’s is pretty limited, since i dont know what the current tech can handle.

But, for starters, i think “protect this town from monster or town will be ravaged” thought process was lost within the game, as i never really saw much of it going on in a town that mattered to anyone.

Perma death -OR- the dropping of all loot on death, i dont know why, but i feel like this makes MMO’s so much fun for so much longer! Can you imagine how many more guilds would work together so much more seriously, how many people would travel in massive groups, how much RP…. Just the thought makes me kitten. A HC mode of Guild wars 2, where loot tables are quadrupled in favor of the player, and mobs are taken more seriously!

Grr, not sure why i like this, maybe its an immersion thing?

An MMO Formula that works

Invoker.5462

You’re talking about a completely different game, and one that I probably wouldn’t play. I play casually, often going online at odd times of the day and usually playing solo or with a very small group. After the initial rush of players, would there be enough people online to accomplish anything at 3 am? Or at 2 pm?

Your idea sounds a lot like the old MMOs like Everquest were in the beginning… but to reach a large enough audience you need to provide the game people want to play. If this was a more popular kind of game then there would be more games like this on the market.

There is one, and its been going strong for over ten years. It does not follow my formula to the T, but it derives from it a bit. Its called Final Fantasy 11 online.

And this formula would fit the casual gamer perfectly.. If you wanted to get on for 10 mins, go help a camp or just find a few mobs that strayed away from the main group, kill those! in the end, you will have helped your faction a little. Its even more casual friendly than guild wars 2 becouse you wouldnt even need to look for a suitible party, they would be visable across the land, and if you saw one of your faction, go help! No invite requests, no ques, just pure fighting to make a difference

A feel mysrlf time and time again, craving more from this mmo, as well as others, if you are like me, you may find phsycological peace with this thread.

There is a big disconnect with todays MMO’s, let me sak you, where did you meet your clan? Do you feel like you actually need them? In some cases yes, but thats not the point im trying to make, but the thought matters, so keep reading while its f.resh in your head

Take a moment, and think back to your first approach to an MMO, where you playing with others? most likely yes, when you think MMO, you assume you will spend every moment of the game interacting with other players in some way. Anything you do, you want it to make a difference.

Is this possible? In guild wars, the answer is no, unless you are playing pvp, anything you do will just blend in with the rest of the envinment, and in the end, your actions made no change in the big scheme of things, in fact, most people will agree they would not be interested in completing a so called dynamic event mor ethan twice a day.

So, the equation is simple

P(2)=m/p=p(10)

P=players
M=mobs

Here, let me put it in words now tha you know how serious i am.

lets say the moment you approach lost shores, you see a village, an abandoned village. In the universe of guild wars, you stick to your allegiance (race), in this situation, you are a human. The town has a single leazon that works to send a message to each faction (Race) based on territory control, REAL control.

in order to gain control, you have to clear out said mobs (see equation) which are far too powerfull to take on alone, and act as a party of their own. The only way to win, is to set up camp in a particular spot. The longer you hold that area, the more local mobs that come to your location. If the camp holds strong long enough, the camp will become part of a percentage.

Percentage of your factions camps and the amount of mobs they have killed (which also clears the path for other players to traverse, making a difference) then goes to determine what land belongs to that faction.

For example, if lost shores belongs to the humans, then the humans get a shop there, which is stocked exclusively by the humans and works much like a local auction house, allowing a compitition free trade envirnment based on player work, rather than gold farmers who sit at the action house all day manipulating the item exchange. Humans also get local discounts on npc items like salvaging kits ect.

Each area owned grants a unique buff to all players of the faction, exp bonus, karma bonus, gold gain bonus, or stat bonuses.

So, instead of ariving at lost shores in its current dull state. You would be greeted by several members of your faction (race) who would gladly take you into thier pary, regardless of gear, skill, or relation. In this type of MMO, any player can help make a difference. No more worrying about being rejected or required to research a boss fight firsthand. Just come in, learn as you go, create clans of friends you actually get to play with without being rejected, and creating a competitive pve scene

Thank you for reading, please post your thoughts. No suggestions please, just say wheather you like it or not, thanks!

Love the game, dislike my character

Guild wars 2 as a whole is a fantastic game, not as good as it was at launch “nostalgia” :’(

I really feel like it has the ability to last, i have a char statue right next to me, and the collectors edition painting in my kitchen, but i cant seem to get into the dern game for very long..

Let me start by saying that i play a Char Engineer, at first, i enjoyed the new race, it was different, i liked running on all 4’s and i liked wacking things with me ol wrench and throwing nades.

In the long term however, i began to realize that i picked perhaps the WORST combo of all time. Let me number reasons to make it clear

1) Char looks like a dog with a muzzle in engineer clothes

2) The shield protrudes so far from the actual body of the char, that its an immediate immersion breaker, unless the char is controlling the shield by some magnetic force, its a real goof.

3) The best way to kill things in Spve is with bombs. Bombs kill things so fast that it makes no sense to try any other toolkit in pve, i can kill a group of 20 mobs my level in about 8 seconds with bombs, not possible with any other toolkit

4) I dislike the rifle animation, it looks so unrealistic, each time i shoot my char looks the same and i feel like im playing a robot the moment i start shooting rifles

5) as an engineer, i cant see any weapons when im toolkiting

6) sometimes i just wana get on and kill stuff, but with the engi its so dull. I walk up, plant 5 bombs, kill, repeat. bombs would have a more lasting, immersive effect if ragdolls were more prevalent

7) The morter has no polish to its funtions at all, my char clips into the morter and sometimes the shells lag and then suddenly all come out at once, its a nightmare

8) Its EXTREMLEY hard to role play and engi char, i really wish i had some cooler gear options, leather just looks so drab and i dont think anyone could tell im an engineer at first glance

9) Coming back after a long break is hard with the engie, as each time i have a different motive, weather its a hack and slash feel or a explosion feel, i have to go respec each time and its a real pain each time

10) engineer just doesnt feel like its meant to be played in 3rd person sometimes, its the only class that has a terrible time trying to make the camera work (especially with grenades)

Solution: Just let us change our race and class, i know you will do it one day, can you just do it now?

Gold, items, anything you like. I strongly reccomend adding an arena, several. Maybe over the ocean area of lions arch, or a flying airship. Regardless of what it is, minimum bet would be set at at least 1 exotic item, or 5 gold (something like that) So that we dont have to wait on unnesccasary matches. The reason for this would be that all arenas would be observable, with players sitting in benches in a gladatorial arena style.

Major bet events could be reserved ahead of time, with a system like no show-you lose or an appeal system. However matches would have a 5 min hotseat with a possibility of a tie, however you can only place 1 bet per day across your whole account, so dont spam!

I feel this could bring in hundreds, no, thousands of new players becouse there is a large playerbase in hardcore pvp that would just love this sort of thing… You might even end up having IPL broadcasts on 10k gold matches or matches betting on several legendarys, the player base can also bet on matches as they observe, these bets have no minimum but are peer to peer (might not be a good idea due to possibility of exploitation…

Add thoughts and bump if you like, lets get this out there!
