I really like this game. I’ve made no secret about it, but the idea of limited time content, combined with bugs makes the game as frustrating as it is fun.

I’m not sure what the solution is, but three days into a two week patch is too late in my opinion for the event to be what its supposed to be.

Perhaps the two week cycle is just too rushed and it should be made longer. I, for one, would prefer avoiding a couple of days of frustration in order to get a working event.

YES, op I agree.

I feel the living story was too rushed. I think it’s obvious, ArenaNet is having trouble keeping up sometimes. Two weeks is not enough to develop & test these things judging from all the disasters we’ve seen & heard about in the past year.

I’d rather have quality content every two months then mediocre content every two weeks.

I can’t say, really. I missed most of it until Nightmare Tower. It’s…ok. I heard it was really bad in the beginning but I guess it picked up later on.

I don’t like the idea of the living story taking the spotlight & becoming the main content for the game. Also, you can’t play it ever again. If you miss it, you’re screwed, UNLESS they make a sort of in-game archive to play through in case you missed it. I doubt it at this point, though.

Is the living story worth killing GW2?

No it’s not worth it.

The living story is an interesting concept, but I don’t see it as the main driving force in this game. It’s an ok side story, though. Personally, I think ArenaNet is better off adding & improving to the dynamic event system, personal story & dungeons.

I would honestly give it: 6/10 no more no less

The writing & the story itself is subjective. Personally, I missed everything leading up to Halloween 2013 & the Nightmare Tower, which is when I started playing the living world. I don’t think the story is that bad, but it’s servicable.

I believe what REALLY burned people is the execution.

Bugged world events, Scarlet, server problems, glitches, the living story was a drunken man telling an epic tale.

Why pug at all?

As I read all these complaints day after day, bad pugs, people won’t listen, run this build, use this gear, all I can say in return is why don’t we have henchmen &/or heroes?

A lot of people say henchmen/heroes can’t be done, the AI will be bad, it will kill teamwork & socializing, that’s all speculation. What WILL happen is that inexperienced players will learn the dungeons for themselves without pressure & experienced players won’t have anymore pugging headaches, it’s a win-win.

In the end, pugging is not about socializing, it’s about getting the dungeon done as fast and efficient as possible. Dungeon runners will be all friendly and sociable until you mess up, unless you play with friends or guild mates.

instead of creating followers for dungeons (which I believe is not possible since you need intelligent AI for certain encounters other than npcs who are quite stupid) I’d suggest following:

Improve the scaling mechanics and make versions of each dungeon / encounter for 1-4 players. Now I would be able to enter the dungeon with my friend only and have a slightly different experience. Yes, some bosses might feel totally different (easier), but wasn’t this the idea behind scaling in GW2 from the beginning: Monsters get new skills, the more players there are.

BUT don’t forget people who enjoy soloing 5man content. There needs to be an option for not being scaled down to 1 player. It should show in your UI, so that people who managed to solo an instance will get the prestige when showing it on youtube. Why not reward those guys with titles too?

I think a lot more people would try to solo an instance non-scaled, if they learn to play it in a easier version – scaled for 1man.

To give incentive to play with a full group – rewards (tokens) should be best when playing with 5 players. Since bosses have less skills for 1-4 players it’s only logical to be rewarded with less token.

That’s actually a great idea! You’re right, solo-ers need love too, but the thing is how would this work in fractals like swampland or dredge facility? Solo-ing on youtube for bragging rights? That will make dungeons competitive which I think is good, plus it adds a new dimension for dungeons other than “get loot & get out”.

First off, I like this game, sure it’s got flaws but I like it.

ArenaNet, PLEASE reconsider playable NPC’s like henchmen & heroes for dungeons & fractals. Pugging is either hit or miss, also friends & guild mates aren’t always around or easy to make for some. I think if you guys want players to experience content & stay in the game, you need to give them access & freedom of choice. Personally I pug, some experiences are good some are a disaster, but sometimes I don’t learn the dungeon paths since everyone’s skipping thru them! The attitude people display when you don’t play their way leaves a lot to be desired.

A lot of players say heroes/henchmen will ‘kill’ teamwork like it ‘killed’ Guild Wars 1, but I don’t believe that. Heroes gave more years to that game than anything. Nothing is stopping them from forming a team with friends, guilds or pugs.

In the end, I’m reading that dungeons/fractals are the supposed, mythical ‘end-game’ everyone’s talking about! I never heard of that word in my life, I play a game because I like to play! Dungeons/Fractals are being catered to the raiders & farmers like every other run-of-the-mill MMO and not to the general public and it needs to end.

I have to confess, I was less civilized when I posted negatively about the living story. To me, that’s one of the major things that NEEDS to be changed in this game. I can’t imagine the court allying with krait, the inquest yes, the aetherblades yes, but the krait? really? They’re pretty much loners. Also Scarlet needs to go, not just because I think she’s not a serious villain but because I see constant threads of people that don’t want her in the game. I believe it’s because she’s holding back not just the living story but the progression of the main story as a whole.

Another major change I’d suggest is encouraging smaller groups by rewarding them more than bigger groups (aka ‘zergs’). Say you fight a champion for instance in Kessex Hills, it takes about 10 people to beat. Those 10 get, say 15 silver a piece, as opposed to a huge group of 30-40 people that will get 2-3 silver each fighting that same champion.

Other changes to the living world, I’d say make the events have more impact, more meaning. The concept of the Nightmare Tower poisoning the land is great, the Crown Pavilion being built is great! Also, I’ve read complaints of the content being so temporary, here today gone tomorrow, that NPC’s in-game & players aren’t affected by changes. It’s as if the events after the content pretend that the content never existed. I believe that needs to change, which goes back to the start of the paragraph, make the changes more meaningful with more impact.

I like the changes to the enemy AI & the landscape. I used to just run around & kill some bandits on Kessex Hills, now that same action feels different with the dark, smoggy sky & huge looming tower across the waters.

The story, however, desperately needs to get better. The whole business with the alliances & Scarlet is getting old, she needs to make her intentions known once & for all. She’s dragging this out for too long, & like others said, she’s like Team Rocket, always doing shenanigans but never all that threatening.

There are a lot of players that have legitimate complaints about the direction the story’s going thanks to the entire living story revolved around her. Plus, she’s been over-represented at the expense of other characters & the overall story. What happened with the elder dragons, the white mantle, tengu, kodan, the mursaat, the white mantle? Also, the largos interests me, what’re they like? Where is the STORY?

I really like this game, it has great potential. I just think developers aren’t using it fully.

Meh.

Another stupid alliance, this time also breaking lore by doing something that would never, ever happen. Again this annoying possessed mad sociopath who thinks she knows more than anyone but only gives headaches.

Meh.

Just make her open some portal to a demon realm thinking she’ll control them and get her killed by them when she can’t control them or something, and be done with it. I don’t mind if the demons go and swarm the entire world.

I’d rather fight an army of a million grasps of insanity and scythes of chaos than have to deal with her again.

She was interesting for one story, but we had way too much of her by now. Go back to the REAL Guild Wars lore and stop making up stuff and destroying the story and the lore by making everything centered around her.

Meeeeeh.

My thoughts exactly.

The krait in an alliance doesn’t make much sense to me.

I know people are ALWAYS going to find SOMETHING to complain about, no matter how hard the devs work, no matter what content they release. I just wanted to take the time and tell you that I’m VERY impressed with the “Tower of Nightmares” patch. I LOVE IT!

I haven’t had this much fun with the living story since “Flame and Frost”. LOVE the story/lore arc here. LOVE the idea of “finishing” enemies, kind of brings that WvW flair over to PvE. LOVE the new heal skill, and the accompanying tool belt skill for my Engineer

I would very much like to see more open world content like this, driven by a great story/lore arc, content that a solo player like myself can just jump right in and enjoy, join a Zerg, farm some spores, etc etc…. and I haven’t even been IN the tower yet hahaha

Been playing from day one and you all are keeping me interested. Keep it up A-Net! Now the haters can get back to hating

You’re right, people will always find something to complain about. What I like is the improved AI, I hope it’s permanent, it’s very interesting to see an enemy NPC revive another! I also like the changing of the landscape, I’m a little disappointed it’s Kessex Hills since it was such a beautiful place just to run around! Now, it’s a warzone.

Keep in mind, though, there are valid criticisms in the update & that is the living story. You can’t just keep rehashing Scarlet over & over & over, the chick’s more annoying than threatening. Something’s got to give. I think everyone’s tired of Scarlet.

I think I stomped a few enemy before I realized that I was stomping NPC enemies thanks to extended WvW time, and I love it! Not only can they be stomped, but I’ve seen enemies try to revive enemies in the downed state and that just made me smile. Much better NPC mechanics with that little addition there! I’d like to see that spread to all sentient enemy NPCs to be honest.

So far I’m really enjoying this update!

I like the improved AI, I hope it’s permanent.

So the little picture preview we get of the next patch in line is up…and it pretty much confirms Scarlet’s involvement, since the next patch will probably have us heading into the tower.

The question is, what is that thing behind her?

Did the krait prophets actually return?

Is it a massive Nightmare Court boss?

You’ve GOT to be kidding me. They NEED to kill her off so a real class of villain can show up or this living story is DONE. Stick a fork in it.

It’s gotten to a point that Scarlet is just dragging this charade on and on. This chick is not a villain. This chick is a bootleg Joker. The Joker, at least, knew how to be funny & sadistic. This chick is neither. I also don’t like the fact that the developers made her look like such a hotshot at the expense of other characters.

It’s gotten to a point when a lot of people are complaining about her now & want her gone.

Whats with the Scarlet has to go hate?

I dont get this. Scarlet has been a major and decent villian ingame for a while now.
But most of the player base wants to see her get killed of or either just be ignored.
Sure i’d rather see an elder dragon awaken but if its going to be another shoot the canons at zaithan fight I prefer they wait until they are able to make it a decent encounter.

Scarlet on the other had gave us decent content with interesting enemies and more.
so whatsupp with this scarlet needs to die , its like trahearne all over again -_-

Well, first off, she’s annoying. Second, she’s holding up the story & not advancing it in anyway. There’s NO explanation to anything about her. Who is she? Why does she do these things? Is there a point? That psycho act of hers is played out.

I like Guild Wars 2, but the living story’s been ruined by Scarlet in my opinion.

Guild Wars 2 is outstanding. I love it. The story & the lore is great and Tyria is a beautiful, colossal world ready to be treaded. Still, the game isn’t perfect. There are bugs & balances to be sorted out as any MMORPG.

I want to take this chance share to appreciate the good things in this game. Feel free to share about anything you enjoy about the game.

The game offers nearly everything you look for in an MMO with superb quality. Great visuals, combat system, creative races and ideas, customization, mechanics that encourage the community to work to together, the list goes on.

I do have to agree on the storytelling aspect though, compared to Warcraft who was really good at grabbing your attention with a serious story, Guild Wars 2 feels a little “goofy” as far as in game delivery goes. I had to actually read the lore online, the written lore is actually told much better.

Still, this doesn’t hurt the game very much, what we have right now is an outstanding product worth the purchase price.

lol The voice acting & delivery is goofy once in a while, but that’s been true since the first Guild Wars. This is a hell of an improvement!
