How to buff Berserker

You know to be fair, I can somewhat make it work, but it’s not easy. Berserker is good on it’s own, but WEAK compared to the other elites.

Well 5 days after expansion and they are already nerfing most other classes but didn’t touch berserker or tempest. Seems they agree with the OP: the problem is the power creep from most other elites, not the “underpowered” elites.

Berserker still cannot compete with those elites, you know why? Because those elites spam evades and reliable damage/healing/sustain.

When has Warrior ever done this garbage? IT NEVER HAS. Ok, you can argue stances and rampage together are broken back in the past, sure. But you were a bad player anyways if you couldn’t react to Warrior damage because their damage out-put was NEVER RELIABLE compared to other classes. These elites are an upgrade and even with the nerf on the OP elites isn’t going to change anything.

Warrior needs baseline fast hands AND warrior sprint at least so they can get actual runes and sigil combinations without getting kitten in conquest.

THANK YOU!

There are certain people out there saying warrior doesn’t skill to play. Ha! What planet do these people live on? Apparently people get confused with the concept, simple to learn & hard to master.

I will say this, as a melee player, nothing’s easy! It’s enough of a challenge dodging aoes & dealing with evades, but it’s another to deal with aoes/evades PLUS the elite specs which are on STEROIDS compared to Berserker. Berserker needs to be buffed.

We should look at what specs need buff

It’s not balanced if it’s weaker than it original class. The goal is that both are equal and offer build diversity.

Its not weaker, its fine. It just sucks in relation to the others!

which means it’s weaker..make some sense out of yourself

I meant it sucks compared to the other professions, not by itself.

I don’t really see berserker as the problem, berserker is balanced. The problem is that other classes got ridiculous buffs!

The thing is that other classes got buffed overtime, while warrior got nerfed overtime. The new specializations is the culmination of all this.

…it’s the fact that other classes got better. Notice that the warrior is the only class without any special effects (teleports, stealth, etc). Warriors have nothing but their own two kitten feet, and I love it that way!

Although I only started playing warrior earlier this year, I KNOW about that warrior hate! I know that it kept getting nerfed piece-by-piece, bit-by-bit, since LAUNCH. It’s plainly obvious that warriors got the short end of the stick in this expansion. With specializations, all professions get both offensive/defensive buffs, warriors only get offensive buffs. (Stability is not enough)

Between mordrem, chronomancers, scrappers, heralds, druids how is berserker supposed to keep up? It seems every time that warriors get something good, other classes like to pile on us.

Hi there,

I am actually very satisfied with how HoT is right now (How dare I!?). I’d just like to reach out to the people who enjoy it and don’t feel like posting something.

Do it! Make a post about how you like the game, how you actually enjoy HoT and don’t let the forum get filled with whinners.

I know, I know, you’d rather be playing than posting. Just take 5 minutes of your time. You don’t have to spend hours here like the crying keyboard warriors.

So thank you Anet, I am really enjoying HoT.

It might not be perfect but when I log in, I get that “man there’s still so much to do” feeling and for me that is great. The maps look awesome and a big praise for the new soundtracks.

You know what? I like it.

The music & environment is great! I especially like that enemies are actually challenging. I got a bit sour with leveling masteries for story earlier, but then I realized its part of the progression. So I accepted them.

I’ll rate it 7/10.

I admit, I like the challenge in the new regions. The Pale Reavers event chain in Verdant Brink was pretty interesting. Exploring & gliding across the jungle is great. The music & art is fantastic. HOWEVER, most complaints about hero points & masteries are correct & I agree. You cannot restrict people like that! ESPECIALLY in the story! To grind like a madman just to learn to jump on a mushroom to advance in your quest is unacceptable! NOT a good idea. It’s telling that devs took action right away on that.

The hero points & masteries requirements need to be cut down some notches.

Grind like a madman? For 30minutes to unlock jumping on mushrooms? Since when is playing the game grinding? <.<

There are hundreds of events, to complete the story you do not even need to do 5% of the events available to you. And you call that grinding like a madman?

To be fair, I glided to the next area with the green star WITHOUT the mushroom mastery. Still, I fully agree that the points as is are steep, for elite specs and masteries.

It doesn’t seem like it left to me. I played a shout build a couple of days ago and held off THREE players at point. To The Limit really helps, when traited it can heal roughly 10k hp!

I think people are overreacting to the spike in burst/condition builds that have popped up recently. If anything, shout warrior is not ‘popular’ anymore, but it’s STILL good though!

No TY, having it compete with Brawler’s Recovery and Destruction of the Empowered, terrible idea.

And you can pretty much throw out the idea of what is an Adept, Master and a Grandmaster out the window. Once you select a trait line you are locked into the entire trait line. All that matters are the traits that compete with each other in their respective lines.

I’d rather have Merciless Hammer compete with Heightened Focus and Burst Mastery than DoTE or BR.

Absolutely correct. Traits as we know them are gone now that we have the new system. Besides, Brawler’s Recovery is really important for condition cleansing/survival.

In all honestly, I love the new Lion’s Arch. It is very pretty. Finally it feels more like an actual city, rather than a large harbor with some vendors. I also like the exterminator quest.

But some points of constructive criticism:

-Some npc’s still reference things from the old LA, this needs to be fixed.
-Many npc’s have no dialogue.
-The Trolls Revenge JP should have some checkpoints or better direction in my opinion.
-One or two of the karka are hidden in really annoying places that are nearly impossible to see and/or target.

And a final request: I would love to see the fountain of the old GW1 Lion’s Arch finally raised to the surface.

The best part.

Well, in my opinion.

Arenanet's Goals for PvP

in PvP

Posted by: JTGuevara.9018

JTGuevara.9018

ANet’s goal: casual-friendly e-sports with little to no developer attention.

According to their past two test leaderboard itterations that’s the complete opposite of what they were going for.

The game has e-sports potential at the core level. But it never had a chance to develop a strong player-base because of the snail’s pace of adding infrastructure (working matchmaking, good leaderboard, reward unification). At the same time, it’s dumbing down the gameplay systems to cater to people who are incapable of learning or thinking. Things like removal of jewels from amulets, forced queue from heart of the mists, “farmboards”, a “PvE race” game mode, etc.

Maybe if they roll back some of the dumbing down, Heart of Thorns will re-invigorate PvP. But it’s unlikely.

They sacrificed pvp experience by adding eye-candy UI and Forcing players to stay in HotM.

  • It only pushed players away.

They combined solo and team pvp for simplicity and population control reasons.

  • Unfair matchmaking further lowering the pvp experience for many players

They added a grindy leaderboard system as if players loved playing 99 games a day.

  • It discouraged players to pvp casually.

They’re not dumbing things down, they’re trying to prioritizing and it’s hurting the pvp experience.
This is the definition of poor infrastructure.

Everygame has poor infrastructure. The fact that ArenaNet is trying to improve it is reassuring. The fact that improvements take a year to accomplish, is not.

premades vs solo players

in PvP

Posted by: JTGuevara.9018

JTGuevara.9018

I’m shocked they removed solo queue. The crying of a very very small playerbase of VOIP teams caused Anet to screw over a much larger solo queue population so the VOIP teams could farm the pugs.

I have even less respect for the players on ‘top teams’ then I did back in solo queue days. Most of them I found to be average at best when they stepped into solo queue, clearly carried players. Very few held top spots in both team leaderboards and solo queue.

High MMR is punished for solo que

in PvP

Posted by: JTGuevara.9018

JTGuevara.9018

After hundreds and thousands of matches, it is very visible that your MMR system functions as this:

  • Ten players que at the same time
  • High MMRs are 10, low MMRs are 1
  • The ten players qued look like this: 10, 6, 5, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1
  • System tries to balance two teams from these MMRs
  • Result looks like this -> RED: 10, 4, 3, 2, 1 --- BLUE: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

Looks good in theory but it’s bad in conquest application. Even if the elite 10 MMR on RED holds a point the entire match and farms opponents back to back without ever dying, it still won’t be enough point value to make up for the other two points where BLUE is slaughtering RED’s lower MMRs. Why are high MMRs punished for solo queing?

I normally run 5 man pre-mades within our guild “which kind of avoids the above problem” but when you are a team captain and run 5 man premades, sometimes you need a break to run solo or maybe duo while listening to mp3s for some casual play. But this is no longer a realistic option for those who have relatively higher MMR due to the visible MMR algorithm.

As priority you need to eliminate impractical and unreasonable match ups
It is one thing to lose 500 to 400 or 500 to even 250 but losing 500 to 100 or lower means that your team never had a chance in hell of winning to begin with and these sort of matches need to be eliminated from ever happening within ques.

Your MMR system is propagating all of the problems that players complain about:

  • 4v5s ~ People leave when they realize a match is impossible to win
  • 5 solos placed against 5 man pre-mades ~ No one has fun and people stop playing
  • r80s being placed with or against r1s ~ Why is this even allowed to happen?
  • ect.. ect.. the list goes on

The above problems are directly responsible for diminished player basis.
I am sure that you do all that you can already.
But please fix this calamity so that high MMR solos can enjoy the competitive scene.

Yeah, the matchmaking punishes you for being…GOOD! Of course, I think the matchmaking system is a reaction to the separation of Solo & Team Arenas which should’ve never been split. THIS is the cause of the imbalances, not necessarily the matchmaking.

I’ve played pvp since launch, from hotjoin to arenas and there never were imbalances like today.

Stop slamming Arena Net for EVERYTHING!

in PvP

Posted by: JTGuevara.9018

JTGuevara.9018

All OP is saying is we should stop slamming Anet for “everything”. He is right about that, we should not blame Anet for everything.

He is making a really good point about all the QQ posts on forums, 99% of those posts were written by people who took a build off of metabattle (the optimal meta build of course), went into ranked and expected to “pwn” immediately. Then when they were not as crazy OP as they thought, since they had no clue, no interest and no inclination to explore why… they came to the forums and complained about certain class/skill/sigil/trait/etc… that killed them. Because obviously they cannot lose with a build from metabattle and them being good and all that.

Sure Anet can be blamed for a lot of things, even balancing based on forum QQ (which is a terrible idea btw.), but we should not blame Anet for our own behavior.

Give this man a cookie.

Class balancing should be the LEAST of our worries. As players we will adapt.

The atrocious removal of Solo Arena & this awful matchmaking should be the real concern. Arenanet has built a fine game, but pvp players don’t grow on trees.

Hotjoin is a COMPLETE DISASTER. That is a fact, deny it at your peril. Removing Solo Arena has caused teams and solo players to merge, creating lopsided games(premades, etc.). This goofy matchmaking has been implemented as a result.

I promise you nobody likes power ranger. So no skill dude standing on a ledge spamming you down is completely ridiculous.

My idea is to nerf it in a way which allows for counter play. The damage of all longbow skills should be reduced by around 10% so there is counter play to getting to the ranger and maybe killing him if you play well enough.

Thoughts?

Please no…

Rangers are fine. This is coming from a guy who plays WARRIOR no less. Look all you do is counter the burst with a block or retaliation, done, sit back and watch as he bursts himself to 0 HP!

Since 5v5 was introduced, matches have become much more abnormally lopsided than in 8v8. People quit losing teams to join winning teams, spectators pounce as soon as a spot opens. 5v4, or worse cases 3 when auto-balance messes up, is not fun for any team.

nah, once people get into pvp a good percentage of them stick with it for good. it’s the entry barrier that is scary to most who have never played competitively. if Anet can get a large amount of WvW and PvE players in, a lot of them will stay for a long time.

unless of course the game mode sux, but anyone who is saying either way is purely speculating and means nothing.

I hope it succeeds. Conquest never WAS that popular, sure the rewards helped, but let’s be honest. It’s slow paced, & all you do is capture points, I mean I still play it, it’s fun but I understand why people didn’t fully embrace it.

It’s important that this message gets continously stressed, that with the merging of arenas. THIS is the one thing causing all the mismatches and what Anet needs to correct. THIS is the one thing that didn’t need to be changed.

Of course ANET needed to change it. Their precious few tournament teams didn’t have anyone to queue with for practice. No one was joining team queues because they were tired of getting rekt by the top teams. So, in anets infinite wisdom,,,lets combine the queues so the top .005% of the pvp population that is good enuff for tournaments can get some practice. **** the general population, they wanna be E-sports sooo bad, they are just going to cater to the few.

If the top teams don’t have anyone to play with, THAT’S THEIR PROBLEM. Let them play each other.

They insta-made everyone rank 80 with one patch?

I knew so many dudes who were grinding a ton to get to rank 80. Those people all quit because there was no rank system anymore.

It was maybe the strangest decision ever made. It seemed like someone who thought they knew everything about the game got giving free reign to just let their ideas run rough-shot unchecked over the game.

In fact that is what development has felt like for pvp on this game for 18 months or so. There seems no checks and balances on ideas at anet with some terrible ideas just suddenly popping up on live servers when nobody ever asked for them.

I have little hope for the expansion. It is like if ONE person (any of us) was put in charge of an aspect of the game it would suck. It is hard to find our own mistakes. Seems like collabarative development truely was just a PR exercise.

I don’t blame you for being jaded, pvp is still unfinished in my eyes. However, the bigger picture must be seen.

Anet only have so much on their plate in developing GW2, so pvp is what it is. For the most part I accept it. I support the reward tracks, matchmaking, current leaderboard systems, but there IS one thing I DO NOT accept & that is merging the arenas.

When SoloQ was taken out of the game in favor of TeamQ of unranked/ranked, it ruined pvp competition & favored teams over individuals. So now soloQers need a team(5 or less) just to compete and stay alive. People of all skill levels are affected by this, hotjoiners, solos, teams, pros, EVERYONE. Nobody can get a good game.

Of course there’s exceptions in skill, but for the most part, to go SoloQ is to go to A LIONS’ DEN.

THIS is the thing Anet needs to correct if they want a healthy pvp community. To do that, you need to restrict the teams to ranked just like before. It’s the ONLY way out or pvp is dead and buried.

Well said.

I’ve always thought WvW was the real pvp for this game. I consistently see way more people on WvW than pvp, that is no coincidence.

Pvp NEEDS more modes. I still play conquest, but not as much as when I used to. I say ‘need’ to be realistic. Any modern mmo, let alone GAME needs more than one competitive mode if it wants to keep players. That’s just the way it is. I’m sure Anet knows that.

JTGuevara.9018

As a more PvP oriented player, I REALLY like to play:

1) Free for all arena: A big arena where you can just go in and attack any player.

2) Fast Deathmatch: 5×5. First team to stomp other team wins. Team with more stomps wins. Stomped = out. 5 min duration. A simpler map, not many places to hide/line of sight.

3) Duel mode: (right click > invite to duel > duel > 3min duration).

Excellent ideas.

DITTO on the simpler maps. What ever happened to an even playing field? How about just one simple arena? No hills, no hiding places, no strategies to exploit, just flat, open space for COMBAT.

Hey there,

I recently made an engineer, but I’m completely clueless about the build for PvP. Does anyone know what build is good to use?

My friend, don’t worry about the so-called ‘meta’. I’ve played a lot of builds since release & I’ve always stuck with flamethrower & elixir gun builds, not to take away from grenades/bombs, BUT that’s what works for me. Flamethrower builds have been hated on & taken to the cleaners here in the forums about their ‘uselessness’ & ‘viabillity’. I’ve kindly responded by smoking every class in hotjoin/tpvp, you name it I’ve smoked it, eles, mesmers, warriors, necros, thieves, guardians, rangers & engineers.

My main point of the response is, enjoy what you play NOT what’s popular or the flavor of the month ‘meta’ build. If you enjoy something, you’ll naturally do better. Just because a build is efficient doesn’t mean it’s the best.

No, this instance of Living Story didn’t work as well as was hoped. It can work, with some reworking and refocus on actually expanding on the game and/or altering things so it actually has impact.

- The biggest problem with living story is that it’s not living or organic. It’s created and released every two weeks. They did make permanent change related to living story in Lion’s Arch with that lighthouse. Nobody cares about it because it’s just a prop with no interactivity.

What makes games worth playing is gameplay – number of decisions player can make that are not mutually exclusive. If there was no jumping ability in this game it would be duller, because jumping is one thing that gives player decision. On the other hand if 3 explorable zones suddenly went missing it wouldn’t necessarily make the game any worse, because choosing which zone to explore is mutually exclusive decision. Same with race-specific personal storylines which is biggest waste of development resources imaginable.

Once you’ve burned through the unique content you’re left with the core system of few player decisions, which causes the boredom players experience.

So very true. You get past these updates that are only 2 weeks long and you’re left with the same content you had a month ago. The biggest updates that seemed the most well received were Dragon Bash, Wintersday (first time), Halloween (first time), and Bazaar Four Winds. There were plenty of events to do and the game felt different. Most people got to enjoy the updates and it didn’t matter what aspect of the game they played (pvp/wvw/pve) because they got to experience it in some way without having to really grind out any items and miss out on what they love doing the most.

Those 4 updates just happened to be party themes, or special events. This goes beyond the typical new dungeon raid, open-world or reward content, these events are something everyone can have fun and take part in. I mean, everyone likes the holidays.

YES, someone gets it.

Do people still want quests?

Not me.

I liked the story in GW1, but I hardly remember the quests I did. Every 3 quests or so, I would just forget! There are a few that stand out in terms of challenge like Galrath, but no I’ll take the event system in this game.

It can work, with some reworking and refocus on actually expanding on the game and/or altering things so it actually has impact.

Which, notably, the last third of this ‘season’ did.

This is a really good point in my opinion. LS has a lot of potential. It is something new. Learning how to use any tool (and LS is a storytelling tool) well takes some practice. Some trial and error. This is an area where I think Anet gets too much flack. They should be allowed the time to either make it work, or to decide that they cannot make it work and to switch gears to something else.

That’s not how the industry works. Players are not willing to see crappy content as active beta testers for something that maybe won’t work.

They should have had a bloody business plan before they released an long running MMO. The LS was an afterthought, badly executed and rushed.

Look at our current incarnation of the LS, the great final. There are more bugs than the story has lines to tell. A bulletproof way to get rid of some customers.

Yeah, this is all a consequence of the two-week cycle. These guys are overworked, man.
You can’t keep up with this stuff in two weeks. However, I like this game. You’re going to have to shut down pvp and wvw to pry me away!

Back to LS, to be fair, the final battle against Scarlet & holograms was insanely good! The battle music was even more epic! The final instance was sweet, I won’t spoil it.

All in all, the living story shouldn’t be the main thing. I think it will be a stepping stone to better things. Let’s see if the event system gets better, more instances are added & most important of all, we get more stories & better gameplay. In the end stories & gameplay are valuable to a video game more than anything else, more so than bytes of character stats & loot.

Cantha would improve this game. It would also increase NCSoft’s revenue stream, as I would throw endless money at them for this content.

Cantha can go to the Underworld and take those seven-times-kitten ed ritualists with it.

lol Like I said above, new zones won’t solve the problem! After Cantha is treaded in a week, we’ll STILL be back at square one discussing this stuff.

Other games have a PTS and get some feedback early on.

On the other hand, in GW2 you get a new bug fest every two weeks, that gets deleted from the game as soon as they get their stuff sort of fixed.

So everyone rushes to see the content, everyone get’s the bugs smashed in their faces, and get annoyed. This LS is pressuring players to play the content that is not polished at all.

That will just cause burn out and people flocking to other games.

Unfortunately I have to agree. The living story was badly handled in the beginning, the story itself picked up but every event up to this day still has bugs in it.

I don’t think ArenaNet should do the living story again, unless it’s a side story. Then it won’t hurt the game.

Permanent content. That should do the trick. Successful other MMOs added it, and people liked it.

Have you ever seen someone complain about more (good) permanent content?

Compare it to the amount of complaining about the temporary content. There you got your answer.

lol I actually did mean permanent content, I should’ve said it up top in the beginning of the thread. Of course there should be permanent content, always.

However, I DO NOT mean perm content like new zones, dungeons or loot. Believe me when I say this will NOT solve the problem. People will just bust through these in a week after it comes out. I think people really want is a new experience more than anything else.

Let’s start with zones: Oh great! Except that there are plenty of empty zones right now! That brings me to the GW2 event system. Add more events! More NPCs, more stories, more perspectives! Make it interesting. Make the Seraph & Centaur war more bloody like it should be. I believe GW2 will benefit with a huge ever-changing rotations of events & stories in a given area.

Next dungeons: Forget it. Fix the ones we already have. At least make Arah story just for a single-player. Make the dungeons for 1-2-3-4 and 5 people

Next loot: Make better rewards for events. (Ex: World Bosses should give at least 15 silver)

Let me just say I like this game. ArenaNet did a great job with this, thank you.
However, how can we truly, meaningfully improve this game? To make it grow?

The living story was an attempt to give us a new experience but it fell short. This game needs something new for pve & living story is not it.

So, the “feature patch” should come nearer and nearer…

But when is the big question. I highly doubt it will be March 18, won’kitten

Furthermore I am just extremly curious about the things ANet’s going to add, especially this features.

I think we can expect at least one new zone, maybe a bunch of the as Mordremoth slept underneath Magus Falls. But more? …

Some kind of Raid-Dungeon would be great to see I think.

I think it’s been said, March 18th is the epilogue to the living story where our questions about Scarlet are finally answered.

As far as what’s to come, I’m guessing everything ArenaNet has tried to do in the beginning before the game was released.
