I for one remember soloQ being a terrible experience similar to hotjoin. I remember anyone who actually wanted to try solo’d in teamQ.
Do you remember why?
People just did their own thing and did not try to work as a team. I do not recall people trying to form strategies and elect a leader at the start.
Why SHOULD you? It’s SOLO QUEUE.

As of now, there is no place for individual casual players to play. This is the bread & butter of pvp. I’m not down with the system forcing people to play on team.
You CAN have room for both solos/teams like we used to!
Guild Wars 2 is a financial success. Google it. What do they need solo sPvP for? There is no subscription.

Let’s be honest here. Everything about the design of this division system, intermingled with the mmr system, screams “Make a team or go home.” Perhaps the intent was to lure in pve players, let them get farmed, and hope they group up. However, one of the aspects of gw2 that was so appealing to players was the lack of a time commitment. That’s all changed with HoT. There’s little room to stay casual and this is just another instance of that trend.
And THAT’S what going to put pvp in a casket, the leadership/management forcing a competitive spirit, all because they want prestige without the work. They just want the REPUTATION of a ‘e-sport’ without being….an e-sport!
This is supported by the changes made to pvp over months and years, (removing of solo queue, matchmaking system). They’re trying to put a league infrastructure without basic pvp functions. It’s like the NBA trying to build arenas in poor neighborhoods by tearing down the local parks and ball-courts. It will NEVER work!
I like this game, I want to see it thrive. The developers & artists labored & worked hard on this game, they deserve the support. I don’t get angry at them, they don’t set the direction of the game.
However, where is the LEADERSHIP? This system is TERRIBLE. Who in the upper echelon decided that this matchmaking system and no solo queue on top of leagues is a good idea? It’s killing the audience. People are leaving pvp everyday. I believe them because players don’t like to lose constantly, especially if odds are constantly against their favor.
No I will not support ‘e-sports’. This is a huge case of ‘just add suits’. Business people have their fingers in the pie and make changes that players never wanted, they think only of the bottom line and nothing else. It’s killing the game. How about investing all that ‘e-sport’ money to make a better experience for the public for a change?

I’m TIRED, TIRED, TIRED of players defending the system. The system is not good. It’s bad by DESIGN. It doesn’t matter how good or bad of a player you are. The matchmaking is designed to make sure nobody succeeds or fails. After the loss of solo queue, individuals are the mercy of premade teams. It’s a terrible system.
You say ‘make a team’? I say don’t take away queueing from solo/individuals, then maybe they WOULD be open to making at team. Alas, that’s impossible now. The artists and programmers designed a great game, but the leadership and direction of pvp is absolutely unacceptable.
Drunken party animals can balance this game better than this.
I’ve moved up a tier to Amber-2 plus 1 unranked win, so 6 wins. Then again it is 6-12 and I played a warrior. Warrior struggles a LOT today. Still, I’ve adapted. Plus, some of those losses were pretty close.
I’m guessing most will struggle since everybody is in the same beginner tier. Some will move up faster than others. I think it will settle soon.
If that happens, that’s unfortunate. I hope not.
If a league is made without a separation of individuals and teams, then nothing will change.
While the Dunning-Kruger effect is very much real, Anets matchmaking that will actively try to make you lose to keep your w/l rate at an even 50% is also very much real. Its quite understandable that this system gets under the skin of many people.
You got THAT right. The system needs to go. Let’s see what leagues bring to the table.
Anet devs need to understand that buffing damage of a warrior does NOT help a warrior at all. It’s the bloody mechanics that doesn’t allow the warrior to fully utilize himself.
1) Very little survivability – Adrenaline nerf (rapid degen ooc) and Cleansing Ire nerf (draining adrenaline whether or not the attack is missed/block) has hit the warrior’s ability to perform consistently hard.
Solution: Undo these changes
2) Bugged physical skills – Seriously will they be ever fixed? Rush, Bull’s charge, savage leap, Eviscerate and Whirlwind attack (rarely) are the skills that comes to my mind that misses the target ~50% of the time except WW which is a rare case. Imagine if mesmer’s shatter skills missed, a guardian’s trap missed, ele’s burst skulls missed, etc. This renders the warrior completely useless in certain situations where the tides could’ve turned into the warrior’s favor.
Solution: Make Rush and BC teleports and increase the range of the other skills and fix the bugs first
3) Blind spam, evade spam, block spam of other classes – while warrior can’t do any of these lol. Blind is very powerful on a warrior, being a melee class primarily and two handers on warrior are so slow that blind spams almost neutralizes a warrior.
Solution: Nerf access to blind, blocks of ALL classes. They should be rare and should be used wisely, not just spam it. Remove sigil of energy from PvP as well
I disagree, actually buffing the damage is good. ANY buff is good! However, it’s not enough! What good is buffing our attack power if can be completely nullified? I swear other classes get a LOT of blind spam, teleport spam, get-out-of-jail free cards. A lot of that stuff is PASSIVE.

Lots of talk about balance following HoT. Here’s my take on it-
Balance for eSport comes down to balance in classes and balance in environments/arenas. GW2 actually does both quite well. Balance for arenas comes from consistency. Minor variations map to map are allowed, but overall the core mechanics should be identical and VERY CONSISTENT between maps. The map play mechanics define the game being played for which the team’s collective skill is being leveled for the win or loss. Consistent maps are probably the most important aspect of good esport.Class balance comes from the developer though nerfs and buffs, but also from the community though meta builds. If you choose to run an inferior Guardian build that you slapped together yourself against a team with a Dragon Hunter that owns you then you are the problem, the balance of the game isn’t. Consider that: You had access to the current meta, you have access to all weapon, armor mods and max stats. Not playing a meta build and screaming things are not balanced is ridiculous. It would be like trying to play basketball in flip-flop shoes and complaining because you have to wear sneakers.
I think we find a great deal of balance in GW2 PvP though meta and ANet has been good in the past with keeping the unbalanced maps out of Tournament rotation. Overall I don’t have a lot of complaints.
I expect nothing less from a guardian. You guys are the golden boys! OF COURSE you’re going to say balance is ok, you’re benefiting from it!

Balance is atrocious. Warriors and thieves got NOTHING this expansion.
UPDATE: I do think berserker has gotten better as I can name at least two builds to be an asset to my team, very much appreciated!
Sometimes it hurts in 1v1s, but I find the worst matchups to be dragonhunters and engineers at times. Strangely enough, I don’t struggle with reapers. They’re almost there, perhaps a little more 1v1 potential and we’re good!
sigh…The thing is, yes, it’s a step in the right direction,…but…elite specs can counter us directly. ANY class that’s even remotely competent can completely shut down our burst & without any defensive utility skills we’re DEAD. The Berserker spec is still the worst of the new ones.
Warriors and thieves are still at the bottom of the barrel. At least the thief can use his new dodges, our berserker can be directly countered with everything else.
The new buffs are good, but it’s not enough, not even close! Other professions directly counter our Berserker! It’s STILL the worst elite! This isn’t even a contest!

One of the important things apart of balance, MMR and other top tier esports stuff is HOTM jail. I believe we spent there just queuing more time than drug-dealers prisoners in real jails. When it ends? Any normal person will get this problem on second day of playing. Does it mean that Anet pvp devs do not play pvp at all? If i am wrong and they do, please let us know what kind of tolerance meditation they use, cos you need to teach us.There are so mane things in the world we could do before, under queuing.

1- The absence of Solo Queue and Team Queue.
2- Less frequent balance patches.I don’t understand how hard it is to see that these are basic requirements for a healty pvp (especially absolutely mandatory for esports) game. It’s been years since people asked for only these two and we got neither of them. You tried to import some stuff from other esport games but you brought useless things like stronghold instead of these two important things like seriously. Now that the leagues are coming (which is absolutely amazing so thank you for that) finally this game can be a real esport if you just add these two things.

I like pvp, I especially liked the hotjoin days at release! 8v8, now THAT was fun!
Today, though, sometimes I find it a chore to try & have fun with this lousy matchmaking & no solo queue. FORGET E-SPORTS, pvp needs the fundamentals first! I mean come on! These are basic things, for the public. This is like the NBA without the streetball(hotjoin), & the local leagues(soloq). I don’t know what kind of people are working on this pvp thing but they are OUT…OF…TOUCH.
I still play pvp because I like the game, but I admit, some days it’s not even fun. Every…single…day I get a couple of lopsided games & teams(97-506), where back then before solo queue was removed, I used to get a bad match only once a week or so. It was an anomaly that occasionally happened. I can handle losing, nobody wants to get farmed. You don’t get better that way.
I’ve said in the past, I will say it again: removing solo queue was a HUGE blow to pvp
Also, there’s bad matchmaking. I think teams should be completely random no matter what, NOT according to so-called, ‘MMR’. MMR means you got hot streak & got paired up with a hot team, nothing more. Then everybody is a perpetual 50%.
I’ve gone from a 68+% win rate to a 46% win rate and it’s making me really upset.
That’s your problem. That 68% got knocked to around 50% to ‘balance’ things. That’s why this matchmaking is ridiculous! You get punished for success!
I’m happy with these changes! To those still having some trouble, may I suggest sword + torch/bow? I find that the burn pressure I can put on point with Scorched Earth/Bow 3 is pretty effective. Burn is potent, take advantage of it.

Keeping minstrel would actually speed up games in the long run. By taking that one extreme support or bunker build you can then run a much glassier setup. 1 minstrel 3 zerk and 1 bruiser would become a viable comp, which results in much more burst play and exciting res situations that get the audience on the edge of their seat. You are complaining about slow boring games, which is exactly what the cele meta produces. Noone wants to watch a bunch of wet noodles flopping arond

I know right? Thieves are annoying, but at least they take skill! Because of their naturally low HP/def they CANNOT make mistakes! They HAVE to get up close. They have to know when to stealth. I played thief back at release, my first character, and I quit because I just wasn’t good at it.
Although I did get seriously angry at developers for executing the last boss fight, (forgive me!) I did enjoy the music. It’s in my brain as I speak!

Warrior? OP? Ha! It’s cute how people think warriors/guardians don’t take skill. They’re looked as the ‘starter’ classes.
As one of the few warriors left I always built my comp around bunker guards to provide me with everything I lack. I know most classes these days have almost no need for a bunker, reaper, rev, engi, mes, thief, ranger…. every class but warrior. To take the bunker guard out of the game makes it nearly impossible to build a stainable warrior! I’m aware that warrior isn’t allowed a real specialization for reasons unknown but to take the only thing that even made it decently useable in mid fight just isn’t right. Warriors can’t 1v1, hardly 2v2 and the only area it somewhat shined was paired on point with a bunker guard. The removal of this ammy effects far more than a single class.
Of course, it’s a ripple effect.
And I’m tired of people bashing bunkers. If a bunker keeps you off point, you RUN AWAY that’s what they’re supposed to. He’s beaten you. Swallow your pride and go to the next one! That’s what I do! Don’t worry, he’s not coming after you he has to guard the point! Relax. If you keep trying, you end up losing time for the team and game.
Now, think. The point of the game is to hold…points! So let’s say you face 3 bunkers, that means your teams HAVE to learn to spike. There’s no way around it. It seems some people don’t like to get spiked around here.
I have theory crafted countless builds from condi to bunker on berserker and I have come to the conclusion that the trait line trade off is never worth it. If for example I take away strength (the best option on average) I will still do more damage without this line despite the attack speed increase and quickness not to mention now rampage has an increased CD. Arms is still better for condis, tactics is still better for support and so on. The only possible fit I could find for this specialization is a rifle build. Another issue I have ran into find and time again is the limited supporting aspect of warrior, it would be nice to at the very least get rolling protection when in berserker and maybe even give it to allies. When I look at reaper or revenant I get sick to my stomach! They have it all from the zero still face roll ability to play to the unkillable 1v1 and team fight capability. I could sit here and give a thousand suggestions… But we all know how that’s going to go. Something needs to be done and quickly, my team already feels I should switch from warrior. I’m not asking for perfect team fight,1v1, plusing, sustain capability like rev scapper reaper ele and even to an extent druid got I’ll settle for just one role, just something ANYTHING!
Rifle is actually workable if you keep distance. Gunflame is effective with Assassin’s Amulet. I’ve had some success with it so far.
Still, we need more, much more.
The story varies by opinion. To me it was ok, not great, not terrible but…ok. I’m more worried about the execution, specifically the last boss fight, which is full of bugs. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.
Man, the bugs I’ve had were slightly different but ultimately similar. For me, I couldn’t reset, I couldn’t glide upwards during Modremoth’s attack & the last sequences of the fight happened out of order. I hope they fix this soon.
Please fix the last instance, Hearts and Minds. It has so many bugs & is basically unplayable. A couple of the last dialogue sequences of the boss fight played out of order & the gliding uplifts are bugged in Modremoth’s attack. Also, I died repeatedly and I’m stuck in the instance.

First and foremost, I will mention that in my 3 years that I’ve played this game I have not complained once about the balance. As an engineer, then currently warrior, I’ve always tried to adapt. However, I will make an exception here and now.
PLEASE, for all that is holy and good, buff warriors so we can deal with the new changes in specializations. Berserker just cannot complete with the new specs. These new specs have direct counters in the form of multiple cleanses, blocks, invulns & stronger bursts. We also have to sacrifice what little we have of survivability just to get slightly more DPS with Berserker.
We’ve been nerfed since launch, piece-by-piece, stability, adrenaline mechanic, now this. I mean really! I’ve ran Carrion’s amulet out of NECESSITY, now at 28k HP because otherwise I would get bursted to complete oblivion in 2-3 seconds by Reaper or Chronomancer! So much for the heavy armor class! At least with Carrion it’s like 15-20 seconds…mmph….for what it’s worth.
Developers, a serious request, please buff warriors. Thanks

I don’t get why Anet so scared to give some power to warrior. If it’s because it’s a “simple” class they should just release an elite class with a bit of depth.
The “simple class” thing is actually false. None of the class are all that complicated to play and all of them require a bit of skill to play well.
Warrior gets hate because it was the class to play in pve for quite a while because people thought greatsword was the best dps to be had. But the truth was that so many other classes could do the same or better dps all the while the players of those classes stuck their noses in the air and proclaimed warriors as the noob class.
But I digress. Anet seems to have inherited the same hatred towards the warrior class that most of the players (wrongly so) has towards warriors. That’s been more than apparent for the last year and a half or so as warriors received nerf after nerf after nerf.
P.S. Revenant is fun. So there is that, too. Warrior is shelved for now.
Bunch of SCRUBS. We’re a MELEE CLASS, MELEE IS NOT EASY FOLKS. Yes all classes take skill, but Warriors/Guardians take the most skill because they’re melee. They have to run up to the person. I don’t care what anyone says.
Again for you who are slow, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIMPLE AND EASY. Warrior is not EASY!

In pvp yeah it’s an absolute disaster. It’s really because other classes are using their specializations, too. Berserker itself is ok, not great but…ok.
Pve, though, it’s great. Mobs just melt with sword/torch + longbow & in wvw I believe it has some use.
My thoughts are though, stay away from pvp until it’s fixed. The other classes are ridiculous right now especially Reaper & Dragonhunter.

I agree with this. When HoT arrived, I was very disappointed that the warrior/berserker issues weren’t addressed. However, I quickly got over it by shelving my warrior and playing something else. I’m having a lot of fun playing reaper in the new content and it’s also been quite enjoyable running a revenant through some of the old PS content.
Forget warrior/berserker; play something else and enjoy the rest of the fantastic Heart of Thorns content!
