Come to think of it, despite this huge influx of guilds that went to TC, we camped them at their EB keep for about an hour last night! I got lots of bags! I even got bags inside the bags!

The HoT powercreep removed more viable builds than it added, with everyone now having to have the new trait line to be competitive. This makes me sad. Even sadder is a condi warrior/guardian is far more dangerous than a damage warrior/guardian.

When your melee classes are running condi builds you know the game is out of balance.

Ha! Absolutely. As warrior, I don’t usually run power builds because they’re easily negated. Conditions are just better since they melt people overtime.

I’m in DB. After a year, I’ve started playing wvw again recently for the past two weeks due to my frustration with pvp and leagues. I usually take a stroll on the borderlands and see at most 4-5 people on the map. On EB, even though there’s more people, I can find just 15-20. I’ve only seen a full queue on reset for maybe 1 hour.

However, these past couple days, the population shot up like a rocket! It’s not just reset night, I’m seeing FULL queues everywhere, every night, EB, DBL you name it! Hey, I’m not complaining! :P

I’m just curious. Why the sudden spike, if anyone knows?

I know how you feel, op. Though I won’t leave this game, it’s obvious pvp has completely failed. PvP is a sinking ship right now and sinking fast, the league system and matchmaking is a complete JOKE. The balance is atrocious. Hotjoin is broken. There’s no soloq. I could go on and on. Everything is riding on this next spring quarterly update on the 19th. I believe this is the last chance for most people, if the patch fails and/or season 3 is a bust, it’s OVER. The pretentions of ‘e-sports’ will go up in flames once and for all.

League =/= skill

Leagues still have zero correlation to skill, we all know this, but some very obvious things need to happen before leagues correlate to skill.

The reason for this issue is manifold, but the major ones are :
A. Too many checkpoint and safespots on the ladder.
B. Per player in game evaluation isn’t considered nor is there a system in place to do this.
C. Teams can often carry singular players because of lack of B.

Now these are my proposal to implement a way that leagues ACTUALLY correlate to skill, some of which will likely never happen for various reasons. But the goal of this post is to get leagues to correlate skill and this is how I would do it.

1. SoloQ/DuoQ and teamQ, this avoids people being carried. But also creates a team based competitive environment that is competitive.

2. MMR needs re-evaluation, it adjusts way to drastically based on 2 losses or 2 victories in a row. This leads to streaks that are extremely unhealthy.

3. Match contribution needs to be evaluated and reworked so that you can gain pips based on contribution. This will encourage people to play to the end. A loss and almost no contribution is a 2 pip loss. A win and major contribution should be a 3 pip gain. A loss but close score should award 1 pip at most if major contributer, 0 pips for above average and -1 for average and below.
Match contribution rework is what this entire suggestion hinges on, it needs to be done properly and tested extensively.

4. To accommodate the above you need to greatly increase the total pip requirement for rank climbing and slightly increase tier pip requirement.

5. Pre-season seeding. Using a certain amount of games + previous season MMR + rank to determine a starting league where the MAJORITY of players start in emerald, good players seed to sapphire and the best of the best seed to ruby, new and bad players seed to amber obviously.

6. Tier loss should be implemented from emerald and up. Rank loss should be implemented from ruby(so you can drop down to sapphrie, where the average players should be after a season). You could drop to a lower rank if you lose 3 consecutive games with below average contribution after reaching zero pips.

Yes, some of these are pretty unspecific, but i am terrible at match, so ill leave the to the people that know better.

Feel free to discuss and improve on my ideas. In a perfect world we might get this.

EDIT : I want to add that this system would mean you climb if you play well, instead of climbing by streaking.
So if you win 1, lost 1 constantly, which is HEALTHY, you should still climb if you played well, which is extremely important.

As long as you have sound matchmaking, that is as you said, not streaky, then yes, I can get behind things like division loss, tier loss and seeding.

If anything, division loss can really help people in lower divisions advance. As far as pips go, I think you can code for different situations. I’d say +1 pip for win(obviously), no pips loss for close defeat(490-500), -1 pip for loss > 50 pts, +2 pips for stomps(win > 200pts) etc.

This system just rewards and punishes people unnecessarily primarily based on their wins/loss streaks thanks to the matchmaking.

Plenty of life left in WvW just not nearly as much as their used to be and virtually no decent GvG play left. Zerg, roaming and skirmish are still easy to find. I play pretty much every day for at least a couple hours at random times in T1. I never have trouble finding a fight big or small. T1 now reminds me of T4-T5 in the first year of WvW.

Good to read. Alright, I’ll give wvw a shot again. When Alpine comes back, I’ll be a mainstay again.

I don’t understand peoples argument that warriors had their turn in the limelight and it’s time for other professions to shine.

Are we endorsing the meta-shift balance approach?

because that’s a kitten approach to take. Achieve true balance and stop with the nonsense meta-shift that requires players to relearn their profession. It’s bleeding the momentum out of “E-SPURTS” players.

This. These things alone will propel pvp and build an audience, I know it.

I dont hate on warriors. In fact hating on a person for playing his class of choice is extremely stupid. In fact hating on anything in an online games is extremely stupid.

What does annoy me though is the severe discrepancy in skill level between opposing teams. It happens way too often for comfort. It would be OK if once or twice you end up with folks of low skill level, heck I wouldnt mind being grouped with them all the time because I acknowledge my own skill level as low. But when a team of such players is repeatedly pit vs folks who are obvious experts with the class they play. Who know how to focus someone down while your own team runs aimlessly, who know how to use the map to their advantage while your team is lost on the way to the points… That simply put, sucks. People of similar skill should play together, make mistakes together and gradually learn how to rotate, what to use and when. They can not learn while being stomped in seconds by heavy focused fire can they?

Matchmaking is so bad.

I have to argue a few points, in your own post you talk about how warrior could do alot better with a minor sustain buff and other classes getting nerfed.

You also mentioned certain weapons needing nerfed and damage reduction. I posted about warrior DPS and my complaints about it. Do you realize that that guardian DH bow skill 2, rev sword skill 2 and enchanting daggers and staff 5 and etc etc etc, a number of other skills does more damage then warrior beserk great sword skill F1?

I posted about how i did less then 2k damage and everyone said warrior dps is fine. Cute, when other classes do more damage and dont have to set it up its a problem.

Gun flame does a ton of damage but do you realize what you are shooting into? Eles magnetic aura from a shout-overload-warhorn 4 and a personal from focus. Not including mesmer reflects by trait, engy has a ton and its crap, warriors shield.

Im seriously tired of people posting ohhh ive had success but yes there is problems. This class has the worst sustain in the game and even when fully geared out in either condi or damage gear/runes/sigils it still does less damage then other classes.

Thanks for constructive comments. I think we are on the same page. I fully agree that the lack of sustain is the biggest problem of the warrior. The sustain is scattered all over into so many trait trees that if you spec all into sustain, your DPS will be really laughable and your sustain is still going to be worse off compared to top meta specs. On the other hand if you take all the offensive traits of the warrior + DPS weapons + DPS/burst sigils/runes, the DPS is actually pretty good, but not the best, but the sustain is just horrible. You will die against better teams for sure. I feel this is so wrong, warrior should be da man, able to last in combat, instead of being a hit and run profession. That role is mainly for thief and I don’t want warrior made into 2nd thief.

I forgot to include one buff to warrior sustain: increase the base heal of shouts by 200. It might not sound much, but if you make a full shout spec and the “To the Limit!” get its CD reduced to 25 (20 s traited), then we could get once again a bit more sustain, about 34 hp/s more. “On My Mark!” and “Fear Me!” could be have their CD lowered slightly e.g. from 30->25 s and 60->50 s (traited CDs would be 20 s and 40 s).

If you look at my post history, I have also asked Arenanet to nerf Dragonhunter longbow #2 damage. It is simply way too high for a piercing 4 s CD skill. Dragonhunter traps, at least the elite, should also be made more visible. Dozens or more DHs stacking traps in WvWvW makes the combat not fun at all. Revenant has multiple problems, but since my experience on playing that profession is so small, I don’t want to comment it too much.

Even I have spent most of my time playing an engineer and I currently play a scrapper engi in spvp, I agree that engineer hammer needs to be nerfed. A simple 20% CD increase for skills #2-5 won’t be enough as it would still be selected over rifle or pistol/shield. I don’t understand whey they gave engi hammer skills like #4, shock shield, which does good damage and blocks at same time. It should do either, but not both. The sneak gyro elite is also too powerful and needs to have an activation time, instead of being instant cast. At the same time I really hope Arenanet doesn’t nerf the core engineer. Core engineer isn’t really all that powerful compared to the rest of the meta or scrapper. And engi has skills, which would need some love (medkit and and most the gadgets outside slick shoes, which is powerful).

I am for Arenanet nerfing/toning down all the other elite specs. If they don’t do this, I am afraid even all of my suggestions won’t bring warrior back to meta.

Then warriors will walk out of pvp and the whole game. Do we really want gw2 without WARRIORS?

Yeah, the state of warrior is unacceptable. I also think, there’s an anti-warrior bias from people. It’s like people feel slighted or INSULTED when they get beaten by warriors. Warriors have no teleports, A.I or evades, only movement skills.

If anything, warriors are so bad compared to other professions with elites that all warriors advancing in leagues have OVERACHIEVED.

To be honest, I only had ONE person tell me to change my warrior, and that was last season!

I have fun with berzerker as I do with the old builds, so thats fortunate for me. However, the state of pvp is horrid. Atrocious matchmaking, atrocious balance, atrocious leagues, broken hotjoin, no solo queue, need I go on lol? The only saving grace is unranked.

I’ve played SAB for the first time on apr 1st. I can see why people like it. I do too.

I notice the difficulty and length really spikes in world 2, though. Not that I think that’s a bad thing, but I think it went a wee bit overboard. I also like the NPC gibberish, it’s hilarious!

Another thing I love about WvW is that competitive communities are fostered by the players themselves. You see this in GvG matches, roaming, small group fights and obviously zergs. There’s room for all. PvP on the other hand, the competitive community is fostered from the top. You see this through esports and the league system. It’s artificial. Also, look at the hotjoin browser, DEAD. It’s like pvp doesn’t really encourage people to pick up and play.

WvW you just pick up and play. When you talk to the charr instructor at your BL citadel and he explains the rules, that’s all you need! Nothing more! The rest is all player generated!

Right now wvw is in a transition phase. HoT took a large toll on wvw and left a bad taste for many players. There are some updates coming up for wvw that might help the situation, but whether or not it can save wvw, bring people back, and keep people playing, we just have to wait and see.

Personally I am not a fan of the PvP gamemode because its to small and limiting for my liking. I got hooked on WvW shortly after I started GW2 because of its diversity in gameplay. There are a lot more roles a person can play, whether you like to run in a zerg and fight large battles, roam around, run small havok/small op teams, scout, etc. The maps are larger and have a better layout. PvP was for the longest time 2 small teams camping a couple points, and everybody running either bunker or burst, and anyone who was a problem would get ganked constantly, I never found that fun…I can imagine the lack of balance and power creep has made that even worse lol.

Haha come to think of it, I instinctively gravitated towards wvw at release instead of pvp. Pvp is still fun, (only in hotjoin/unranked) but wvw in my view always had more potential instead of conquest, your post says it all. Also, YES the power creep has made it worse lol. Warrior got hit the hardest. It’s a shame that the WARRIOR profession has to flee when he’s pressured, even though the character creation says, “they can stay in the fight”.

I feel your pain, warrior used to be my main lol. I played a good amount of pvp in gw1 where there were different modes and pretty much every profession had great builds and roles to choose from. I was rather confused and surprised why gw2 had this one mode, everybody was doing the same thing, and you only see the same professions because every couple months anet buffs a new profession and nerfs the previous top one lol, its like a buff/nerf circus where they pick the winners and losers.

So I got into wvw, which was one of the reasons I had bought the game after looking at videos and online reviews. There I was a total noob in green gear, no ts, no clue what I was doing, just hit level 80. At first I just stood in keeps watching players and looking at the map, then felt confident enough to follow a commander and zerg..and I never looked back. WvW is the most fun I ever had in a game, the fights, coordination, lots of variety, and tons of friendly folks around just make it such an enjoyable experience.

I know I am not the best in pvp, but I am not a bad player either. I have now just lost 11 in a row. Twice I was 1 win away from finishing my 3rd tier in sapphire. I am willing to pay a team to just get me through the next 3 tiers to finish sapphire. I only have a bit over 42 gold in game, but if someone or some team gets me through this to ruby I will give everything I have to them.

I am continually on the bottom rung of players, my mmr must be awful. But I am desperate just to get out of sapphire. I was hoping just to get to ruby and be content, but the way matchmaking is going I will fail at that.

I am not looking for trolls to tell me how bad I am, get good, or anything derogatory. I just want to finish sapphire and be content I made it that far. So if anyone or any team wants my life savings in game of 42 gold +, look me up and help me out.

Stay strong, friend. These leagues mean nothing. You’re likely not as bad as you think.

warrior simply does no physical damage outside of gunflame..
which is why..people go burning condi more now…because it does damage..

Correct. Burning is still pretty strong even after nerfs.

Hello everyone, I come from the heart of the mists and the pvp league season. I’ve played season 1 and season 2 and frankly I am disillusioned with the balance, matchmaking, league system and pvp as a whole. I quit league and gone back to unranked, but now I’m considering wvw again.

I’ve popped in back and forth and seen the empty borderlands and everybody fighting at EB. Now, I just want to know. Is wvw truly dead, is there a pulse? Pvp is literally unravelling before my eyes and I’m considering coming back to wvw. I’m trying to make a decision and need some input, so what do you say everyone? Wvw or pvp?

Guild wars 1 Nightfall release.

10 professions.
1320 skills.
Multiple elites for each professions.
Build templates baked into HuD.
Fully customized HuDs.

Alliancee battles.
Hall of heroes.
Heroes ascent.
Team arena
Random arena.
Hero arena.
Guild vs Guild.

PvP rewards were equal to farmers income.

Not to mention the earliest decider of skill; when you had a team, you kept that team. If you won 10 consecutive matches, you got a point. After 20 points you got your first low level title.

A.I builds were viable. I.E minion masters just won’t thrive in most PvP area’s.

Whatever you unlocked in PvE you could use in PvP. Whatever you unlocked in PvP you could use in PvE.

haha even the A.I has value! Love it! Gw1 was just masterfully woven in its combat/skill system. You can see the back-and-forth counterplay in each game. It was designed beautifully.

I like gw2’s active combat system, but gw1 was something special.

The biggest issue, in my opinion, is the bottlenecking of our trait lines.

You can either stay Vanilla, aka, Disc/Str/Def which gives you everything

or

You can do:
Str/Disc/zerker
Disc/Def/Zerker
Def/Str/Zerker

Regardless, no one does the 3rd option because Discipline is waaaay too vital. So were either stuck with defensive line and give up 30%+ more damage, or we give Defense, and take Strength and get wrecked without Warriors sprint/dogged march (which needs to be combined) and the other defensive traits, double EP etc.

It seems like EVERY other class had to give up NOTHING to utilize their new lines, where as we have to pick. Zerker is good for gunflame and condi, that’s it.

Everyone else gets the best of both worlds, aka offense and defense and we get stuck into picking one. Or, stay Vanilla and miss out on the Zerker line, which has an amazing elite, and huge damage boosts.

I’ve been there. Yes, warriors have to sacrifice a lot just to break even. I just hope our buffs, or other professions’ nerfs come soon.

I love warrior and thief. They are the only classes who didn’t get buffed into the clouds and didn’t get stupidly OP mechanics added to them.

Playing a warrior or thief still requires skill.

a fair league sistem may grant any player for a pip range(a full div in my opinion) may get teamed with any player in the same range and again a team of the same comp and probably ad some class stack restrictions

making loser/winner predeterminate teams is not a fair league sistem

Matchmaking is based of pip range first of all. In the end winners will move on beyond your pip range. ’So less and less good players ppl with super high winrates will be left at your pip range.

And what do u think is fair? Mixing teams up? So a few get carried hard while others have to carry hard …..yet they will be treated equally reward wise (eventho that carrying guy might be 2-3 times as good).

Theory is so much different from practice. I give not one whit about ‘pip range’. It does NOTHING without addressing the matching system.

A lot of negativity has flown around lately. No game is perfect and everybody like and dislike different things. I create this thread to focus on positive experiences and what we do like.
I love gliding! Great feature and I love that they gave us gliding on core tyria maps as well. I also really like the idea of several levels in one map. Hidden areas with hidden achievments is alot of fun.
I also appreciate Guild Halls being so big.

What do you like and find positive since the release of HoT?

I like, yes, the gliding, exploring the jungle and the berserker elite spec. HoT to me is solid.

This is a petition like post.

The one that chose a skill based system, +1 this post.

The one that chose a grind based system, please say why you think it’s best.

Skill based rank system, will give you a better rank if you beat somebody with a higher rank.

A grind based system, will give you a better rank, if you win a match.

Actually, our league system is a grind based system. You need to get PIPS to goes to Legendary, but you don’t need to be good to get there. It can take more times to goes there, but it’s not showing SKILL, it’s showing you get more TIME than others.

I know… Anet want to LURE pve grinders into sPvP to get a Legendary Backpiece pve items. This is because of that objective that Anet, is killing our match making system, killing our competitive community and making any Joe Blow a Legendary player.

I think that luring PVE players into sPvP is a good thing. But luring PVE grinders is not. Competitive system should give you incentives to get better, to play versus better teams and reap the reward of it.

So, I think that having our old Leaderboard 2014 skill based system back would be great to accomplish this.

To get the Legendary PVE Backpiece, I would ask a grind into the Legendary Division of many wins. That’s it.

So, skill based ranking system would remove PIPS from the LEAGUE.

Fix the division to the ranking of players:

Give Legendary to the top 1 to 200, Diamond to 201 to 400, Ruby to 401 to 600, Sapphire from 601 to 800, Emerald from 801 to 1000 and Amber are unranked.

Then we will get our BADGE and Legendary stuff to REALLY show our SKILLS.
Not because we did GRIND the SLOT MACHINE.

Anet will need to change some of the achievement because obviously people will go DOWN from one Division to the others and goes UP way more.

This propositions would remove the dualities of GRIND versus SKILLS and let people know that if you are a Legendary Players it’s because you can WIN versus them (usually more than 1 time).

Skill based system will help to grow the competitive community, because the REWARD (rank and division) would be given for the SKILL of the player. Incentives to play to get recognition of your SKILL into a game, is addictive because you need to get better (it take time and effort to do). Grinding games into a not so balanced (class and match-making) is not addictive and it is frustrating.

My proposition would cater to the PVE grinders (real hardcore players that want to get better) to get their Legendary and to the sPvP competitive players who want to get the REAL recognition of their SKILLS.

Some people tend to diss warriors but tbh I found them kinda useful. Paired up with one I was on my ele, we had 3v2 on mid against a thief/mesmer/DH. He pretty much killed em piece meal while I kept him alive. The rest were free to 3v2, and keep home. I don’t think a thief would be able to pull that off. Too squishy. So while if I do see a thief/warrior/DH I make a face, but bite my tongue while secretly hoping they do well. Only asking if anyone wants to switch to ele for sustain, and if noone does then I will.

War/ele is actually a pretty useful tag-team.

hmmm. during launch of GW2 when there is no metabattle. when people still have no clue what is more OP.
- back when power mesmer doesnt really shatter their clones.
- when elementalist can use other utility skills while mistform.
- when hambow (before u can move while using hammer skills) warrior was using physical utility and mostly just a bunch of CC. when warrior just bull rush and 100b u to death lol
- warrior before shoutbow was famous (cleric, settler), people often message me asking what build i use ( metabattle just starting to be a thing ) i remember the like of toker and some ESL players back then saying i use crappy fear build LOL then they buff celestial amulet and every ESL team has shoutbow war.
- back when the fastest way to farm glory/rank points is to play hotjoin.
- the 10v10 at capricorn map where i just mindless tag everyone with plague necro and end up with 450 points per game.
- ahhh the nostalgia. ( now pvp forums is just pure QQ )

Once AGAIN. The RESULT of pvp speaks for itself. It doesn’t matter how “good” or “bad” you are, regardless if you win or lose, the matchmaking will deliberately stack IN FAVOR or AGAINST. I’m not a math wiz, I can’t figure out or tell people the algorithm for this stuff, I just look at the results.

Time and time again, each division, from amber to legendary has suffered extreme blowouts. This is inherent in the matchmaking system. People have consistently reported making new accounts and advancing to legendary with them to rack up wins early to take advantage of the matchmaking and get better teammates.

Amusingly, despite the writing on the wall and obvious result, there are people who still, still, STILL think this system takes so-called “skill”! They’ll belch and moan, you’re not “good” enough, you’re a “bad” player! IT DOESN’T MATTER.

IT DOESN’T MATTER how “good” or “bad” you are because THIS ENTIRE LEAGUE SYSTEM DOES NOT EVEN MEASURE SKILL PROPERLY.

WvW is great because it’s a blend of pve and pvp! You get to fight other players, plus you get a big world to explore! It’s the best of both worlds really.

MMR hell is what people make up when they cant accept the fact that they are not good enough to climb.

There’s the exact same behavior from people in any game with a division/league system when people cannot/cant progress past their own skillcap. This is no coincidence. You try hard more, you win more.

And something has to be clear, if someone loses 80% of his games, he does NOT deserve to climb until he makes drastic changes in his playstyle/mindset/way to approach the game.

You made it to diamond, meaning you’ll make it to legend eventually since you just need 51% win rate to climb basically. The closer you are to this win rate and the slower it will be (captaine obvious there but well).

Losing cant always be the fault of the others.

I scraped and clawed to ruby just a few minutes ago. I BATHED in the MMR hellfire at ALL the divisions. I’ve hit my so-called “ceiling” plenty of times. This leads me to believe that the key factor to my gameplay is the MATCHMAKING.

Look, I understand you guys. You guys that rode the mmr wave can’t admit that you’ve benefited from it personally, so you deny it. It’s a conflict of interest!

For some of us, the ranked queue button may as well say “match me with the challenged”. You can’t control what the matchmaker gives you; some games you might get god’s gift to pvp, and the next game you may as well have been matched with a toddler on a unicycle.

But there is one thing, one variable you can control – your own gameplay. Sometimes you are just too frustrated with your teammates to see your own mistakes; mental exhaustion due to perceived mistakes does do that to you.

Consider this thread.

The OP had repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with his teammates, to the point he was convinced that he was doing nothing wrong, and to prove his point, he put up a video , which, quite frankly, as quoted by “new players are cancer”: some of the worst gameplay i’ve ever watched.

The reason I bring up that thread is because it contains THE most constructive criticism I’ve ever seen on this forum, in spite of OP defending his very very subpar play. Now, this isn’t an attack on that thread’s OP, but the amount of players willing to help him before and after the video drastically changed, and the majority of those helpful players were diamonds/legends.

Based on the above, I feel that if people were more willing to share footage of their gameplay, they would receive more help and would be able to climb faster.

BWAHAHAHA!

In other words, it’s not the GAME’S problem it’s YOUR problem! Heard it all before.
