yeah, i think lots were turned off by the direction hot went.

so far they seem to be course correcting, hopefully they continue in this direction. bloodstone fen was a huge exp feast. i actually finished leveling masteries just using exp/bday boosters while getting the daily done in there.

jus do that, i think u may start to enjoy it again

i think the exploit of AB is that u can multi loot tarir. in SW you still will stay to fight the boss when you taxi over so, i don’t think thats the same, cause players are still having to fight the VW

That might be the case, but a second instant bonus hit of points is still a bad situation.

Perhaps bell should only be claimable for a fairly short time. Say 20 seconds.

The way it’s working now awards easy wins too often.

i think this would be fair enough, if bell was rang < 20 secs, then don’t make avail to be capped for +20secs

@Jaxom: I can see, how this could have been prevented from our side, of course. But it just seemed so obvious that the Guild Arena would be a place for PvP practice. But as the old romans used to say: errare humanum est.

yeah its an understandable mistake. and as i said, i think there are a lot of issues w/ custom arenas too, which make them much less useful than they could be.

……. I mean in GW1 there were a lot more options and ….

yeah, you/your guild just needed to research it ahead of time. basically you invested your resources/time in the wrong place.

the reason people wanted pve gear for pvp is for guild v guild stuff, just like how wvw uses pve gear, but its a pvp environment.

these large guilds would have to try and sync up w/ whatever server they were playing w/ and find areas in wvw or the obsidian sanctum to battle it out, which from their complaints, was not great.

so guild arenas were made, where they could fill their guildly desires. at least thats how it played out from my pt of view.

since i don’t do it, i don’t know if it worked out for those guilds or not, but since i haven’t seen the complaints since guild arenas released, i have to assume its mostly been a positive solution

gotz to agree w/ inculpatus, the guild arenas were always meant to be pvp in pve gear, as players wanted.

custom arenas is your solution. u even get to practice you pvp on the actual pvp maps, so its better than a guild arena for that reason too.

now are there issues w/ custom arenas? definitely. but thats a diff discussion

Screllelcitc weapon set was available in the last 6 months I thought.

Sadly not. The only reason they do not cost as much as fused yet is because they are very unpopular

They did bring Fused Weapons back about 1 year ago for 2 Tickets each if I remember correctly. It lasted 2 weeks. They do this on occasion, you just have to watch the announcements for such.

I am 100% sure they did not come back ever since the introduction of the wardrobe. Otherwise I would own them.

i agree. they did bring them back at some pt, but for 7 tix, not 2, and def not a year ago, maybe shortly after LS 1 left. a year ago… would have been around HOT release, and i feel like i wouldn’t have let that get by me, but i dont kno

if u love world bosses, yes those are still a thing and u can def duo roll n do that. you can still random LFG for dungeons, but they are the same ol same ol, and haven’t changed at all.

u haven’t said when u last played, do u kno about fractals? u 2 may enjoy playing those too.

before u buy anything, i suggest just logging in, running around again, and look into fractals.

wvw is getting a handful of updates, but i can’t say whether its really made a big impact. in general i think its been a positive reception to updates

Not much they can do other then bring back the fun and competitivness to GW2’s sPvP again.

- No more putting solo queuer’s against premades no matter the size.
- No more class stacking, I mean come if you can’t have class stacking in your ESL, then how can you even think it’ll be ok for the rest of the players.
- Better Build system in sPvP, do away with the amulet/rune system it’s broken.
- Stop being special and show everyone’s ELOs or MMR on the team screen before during and after the match.
- Make sPvP fun again so it’ll attract more players instead of pushing players away. Smite, and Overwatch have proven you can have a highly competitive scene without degrading your causal playerbase which some will tranistion to competitive then to MLG.

Till atleast some of those are addressed expect longer and longer queue time in GW2’s sPvP till the fun of PUGstomping with premades become uninteresting because of the queue times.

too tru, if they actually focused on making it fun again, then it could see at least some kind of revival.

  • more teams means more competition in the top tourneys

The first obvious issue is matching premades with solo players.

Making leagues solo/duo queue is something we’ve discussed. We’re open to doing a beta of it, but we’d likely put it to a poll and have the community decide. We probably wouldn’t run a premade-only arena at the same time as there’s not enough 5-mans actively q’ing during a season to make the queue times reasonable.

prob the best thing i’ve heard from anet pvp in a while.

but u’ve sayd some other pretty things before too. we’ll believe it when we seize it

No Ithilwen, you’re missing the whole basic function of the system. I’ll try and explain it a bit better.

We can start by saying skill is represented as a number from 1-10, 10 being high. An “even” match occurs when the total skill on both sides is the same.

In the proper system, the matchmaking is drawing from a pool of people that all have similar skill, let’s say between 7 and 8. So you’ll have one team that’s something like 77888 and the other team is 77788, so total skill is very similar. However, one of those people actually has a higher skill than the system thinks. Instead of being a 7, they’re actually. 10. This unbalances the match and causes them to win. Here’s where the key part is. As a result of winning, the system moves their number from 7 up to 9, and begins matching them with a pool of people between 9 and 10. This way balance is restored AND everyone is playing people of similar skill.

Let’s look at what happens in our system. The pool of players is more diverse. You’ll have teams that look more like 23489 and 25558. If the person with skill 4 wins a lot, the system will then change their number higher, let’s say to 8. This is where the difference happens. As a result of this increase, they now are matched with far worse players in order to keep the teams balanced. Instead of moving up to a higher division of competition, they are kept in the same pool and matched with worse players.

A good system rewards winning by matching the winning player with other higher skilled players until your competition is good enough that you stop winning. Our system rewards winning by attaching bigger and bigger weights to your feet until you stop winning.

The flip flops are the result of low player population. When there are only so many to choose from, you will see the same players repeatedly.

The game is trying to make an even match and I suspect it doesn’t like to repeat matches. So it’s going to mix and match from a relatively small pool.

This is clearly why they want to pick from the whole population.

So, the root problem is low population. ANET attempted to solve that with the legendary wings, but then shot themselves in the foot by trying to prevent people from getting them.

High rewards aren’t going to solve the issue in and of themselves. I recently got an ascended accessory drop after losing a match badly. I couldn’t have cared less about the reward.

I was unaware of pvp/avoided it for the first period I was in GW2. A big step would be to reach out to the pve population. Perhaps a living world episode that included travelling to an arena?

@JOSH DAVIS Here’s an idea for you. Hold pvp matches in the Queen’s Arena in Divinity’s Reach and perhaps at the Arenas in Rata Sum.

This would make matches easy to spectate and perhaps join and would increase the awareness of pvp in the pve world.

think its random pull from a list they created. just added to obfuscate whether u are playing w/ or against an actual premade/guild team.

as w/ all things anet pvp, pushing teams and making it harder to play solo is part of the goal.

remember win u could right-click a player name and see if they were in a party or not. then the dev strolled in here, casually axed “how’d u guys kno u were playing a premade”, peepio says “right click”. next patch? right click to check teams was gone. sly sly dev

Did I say 5 anywhere? I said teams. Teams as in, 3-50 or more. Hey even 2 people are a team. I honestly think 3v3 could work.

So yes, my point still stands, you just missed the point entirely. 1v1 is not Team. It’s individual play.

I would vastly prefer 1v1, I’m a mostly solo player. Thing is, 1v1 balance is different to team balance, because you can no longer say “This trait works this way because it is meant to be balanced around the fact there are more people other than you there.”

u are saying they can’t do 1v1 because ‘balance’. i am saying look at all the various team sizes that exist. they all basically use the same balance. and the balance has never been perfect in all of them, or prob even any of them. do u think they’ve never nerfed or buffed a skill because it was too strong 1v1?

using balance as an excuse not to create alternative methods of play in a game is jus that, an excuse. peepio are going to qq about balance always no matter what, and its never going to be perfect.

if 1v1 balance is so terrible that it all comes down to 1 class w/ 1 build, well in some ways thats the perfect balance. every skill and trait is the same. just player 1 v player 2 and who can use that class w/ that build better

the problem is anet isn’t trying to make pvp fun for anyone, they are still trying to make it into an esport. someone said it like this before

consider this: if fun was a goal of gw2 pvp, we would have:

soloq
tru tdm (that 1 map don’t count an u kno it)
dueling (at least in the hotm)
something (anything) to do while waiting on queue
random arena (gw1 style or similar)
other modes (2v2, 3v3 whatevs)
original hotjoin (8v8 10v10, something like alliance battles in gw1)
… prob forgetting something….

pt is, any or all of those things could add a level of fun for at least some people

rather than seeing any of these things, we see anet push esports and team queue for conquest

therefore, fun is not a part of the current goals/strategy for gw2 pvp

i suppose in anet’s def i could say they (re)added ability to queue outside of hotm, so now we do have something to do while in queue, altho it is not pvp

First of all, read my post good. I am not complaining. Am I annoyed by it? Yes. But I am purposely making this post to see what your toughts on it are, mayby chaning my mind.

And yes, I play DH on occasion, and it’s pretty easy to land it when an enemy is blocking.

i thought u were being honest, but i think this is really just a veiled qq. it is a counter to a block. yes. but it doesn’t do a lot of dmg, it is easy to dodge if u aren’t already channeling something. it has its + and its -

there are about 3 to 10 guilds anet pays to play spvp. usually when they play, anet will put a banner in the top rite of the screen. anet calls them “tournaments”

The delay is there so players who accept the party don’t leave the match early and and get back to the lobby before the party is actually created. Otherwise they’d be able to queue and then get kicked out, and it’s just all sorts of weird user experiences.

However if someone doesn’t intend on joining the party anyways, there is no harm in letting them leave early other than maybe slightly less usage of the feature.

wtf? ive never even heard of this being a problem. I dont think it has even been mentioned in threads. So this timer isnt a weird user experience? this is about the 3rd thread ive seen dedicated to this timer.

Please stop making changes to fix issues that create other issues, especially when your fixes arent even needed.

That’s some unwarranted hostility my man…. Evan was agreeing with the fact that there is no harm in letting people who opt out of joining the team leave early. Evan is continually working with the pvp community on QoL stuff and doesn’t deserve that.

@NotASmurf: As others already pointed out, the feedback in unranked with a mix of achievement hunters and, for lack of a better expression, serious PvPers, is already partially invalidating the feedback. If your strategy is focussed on getting the achievements, e.g. ringing the bell, the match plays out differently then when your focus is on winning, e.g. just stalling the opponent at the bell for a bit but meanwhile decapping/capping the points. (And yes, that’s also an achievement. But you get the idea, I hope…)

@TheGrimm: Ok, valid oppinion. But then please don’t complain when you’re in an unranked match and you get a team mate who prioritises getting achievements over winning the match. THAT is the situation I’d like to avoid.

i’ll agree that the exit points are not great.

but the cannon i think is ok, as sartharina said, this isn’t skyhammer.

1 thing i think i like is that, since the cannon only gives points, at least this map is purely pvp.

theres no beast/lord for points. every pt you get will be from pvp. pvp to hold/cap a node. pvp to get the cannon.

Pretty much either ANet just don’t have the ability to do so, or ANet just care enoth to keep the game mode on life support, for as long as it can before stopping support on this game mode completely.

well… they won’t stop completely, but they are just entirely too bull headed. they have at least some resources for it, but they refuse to try a diff strategy. they decided near the beginning “esports is popular, we have a good game, we need to get into that scene”.

they decided the best path was w/ conquest maps. 5 man teams was kind of the whole gw2 party system, so they went all in on it.

fast forward 4 years, some anet teams learned their mistakes and have tried to fix.

> pve thought, ok 5 man dungeons don’t work, lets go w/ 10 man raids (not that i think that was a good idea, but it was a change to adress a prob they saw, even if it was a poor change imo)

> wvw they polling the community, removing/adding borderlands, polling for adding repair hammers/cannons etc.

> pvp? they keep doubling down. community falls, they double down. more 5v5 conquest. they added leagues, but it was just to push forward w/ esports and 5v5 conquest. the closest they gat to a change was courtyard, but that was a lazy implementation thru n thru, and they haven’t touched it since

even in a conquest matchup, if your strategy isn’t working, u need to adapt and try something different to turn things around. our pvp team? is the def of insanity
