4 new map pings

Jaxom.7310

yes, some people read patch notes.

ooo the new mini map pings are stated in the recent patch notes ?
well the patch notes are too long.
i only read the parts i am interested in.

but you were interested in the new mini map pings… so you must have read it… :p

on topic they are great, though so far very under-used but with any luck they will be used well once the new season starts to improve communication between players

concept i think is good. what i would change is, after you’ve used one, that stays your current click ping until you change it to something else.

for ex: i want to hit the warning yellow one on a node. but i think 1 ping isn’t enough, i need to spam that mami. but i have to keep shift click drag to the yellow to spam it.

if during my map pings, i get into an engagement, its tough enough to try and fight/live while throwing up some pings.

so just make it, last used = default for remainder of hte match, unless that tougher than just making it the current default.

GW2 becoming less and less fun

Please, put some fun back in the game instead of endless numbers games.

Now describe how to put fun back in the game in a way that replayable, and something that’s fun for a substantial number of people.

Edit: all you said was “I don’t like.” That’s not constructive or useful to the devs. What they want to hear is, “I suggest that the game have this for this reason”. They have no idea what you consider fun that would be good to put in the game and have sufficient replayability to be worth their time and money to work on.

while u all mostly speaking aboot pve, re: pvp, fun is def not a part of anet’s goals, so its possible that is tru for pve and wvw too. someone said this before

consider this: if fun was a goal of gw2 pvp, we would have:

soloq
tru tdm (that 1 map don’t count an u kno it)
dueling (at least in the hotm)
something (anything) to do while waiting on queue
random arena (gw1 style or similar)
other modes (2v2, 3v3 whatevs)
original hotjoin (8v8 10v10, something like alliance battles in gw1)
… prob forgetting something….

pt is, any or all of those things could add a level of fun for at least some people

rather than seeing any of these things, we see anet push esports and team queue for conquest

therefore, fun is not a part of the current goals/strategy for gw2 pvp

i guess u could say they finally added something to do while waiting on queue by lettings you queue outside of hotm… so progress?

ANet: “Sure. Thanks for your kind and enlightened suggestions. Be sure we’ll print them in big format and stick them to the wall, aside the adult poster of Lyssa.”

The OP is perhaps blunt. But he is right on most of his points.

mostly tru, but it could be stated simpler. when developing, creating, updating anything for pvp, anet needs to ask them selves:

“will this make pvp even moar fun?”

instead of their current process:

“does this add more esports and conquest style gameplay”

its a valid complaint tho. lots of posts ask for some way to just pvp, literally youse guys vs us guys (or gals). just let us battle, forget all this capping pts, respawning, mobs to fight. but anet constantly creates maps that include various pve elements, u can’t deny that.

it could have some fun to it, at least its different, but it doesn’t address the fact that lots of players just want to pvp, or player vs player. not pvpve. again, i’m not 1 who is 100% against pvpve, it has its merits, but it would be nice to have a real way to pvp w/o all this extra stuff going on

You mean you want more courtyard maps? I thought Courtyard was disliked by most (I know I hated that map).

The new Capricorn map sounds neat and while I’ll miss the underwater portion as that was my favorite map, I’m looking forward to the new map.

if u think courtyard is an actual tdm map, then u really are clueless. main reason being actual tdm don’t have respawn with a point based win system. its a tdm… when everyone on 1 side is dead, the other side wins

annihilation mode does not have respawns.
death match mode have respawns.

Another importan thing to add is a select box that helps you to go into worlds and maps populated by RPers. This is needed because megaservers nullified the RP servers.

Nowadays is way harder to found a map were people are randomly roleplaying… A select box to prioritize the RP preference would be amazing, IMO.

that would just be an empty map tho… unless its one of the city hubs

There are no NPC pirates in this map that interact with players. The secondary mechanic is a periodic 4th capture point (“The Bell”) that awards increasing team score.

There was probably some confusion because once the bell is captured, there is an awesome sequence of cannons blowing up the pirate ship. This is only for flavor, though.

Was there anything changed to the “BETA” maps? I thought the purpose of “BETA” was to test and implement changes. So far, we have had the same map without any adjustments to test. All of the same issues, that have been reported, are still prevalent in each map.

so they added more pve maps not pvp… havent they learn from stronghold? we want less pve in our pvp maps.

You quite literally haven’t even SEEN the map yet and your already bashing it >.< kittening wow. If you have already decided your gonna hate it NOW based on a few lines of text then obviously nothing anet can do will change your mind.

I only hope youre more open minded than you seem here. Or I imagine well be dealing with ANOTHER wave of hateposts with 0 actual feedback built in to them.

As for less pve in our pvp maps. Legacy of Foefire is still the top voted pvp map in game. And it has more PvE in it than any other the other maps aside from stronghold.

The presence of pirates like this MIGHT make it interesting for certain classes. Revenant’s and DH’s might be able to use them for mobility. Necros for things like building life force, shredding conditions, and even doing mass transfers from epidemic.

Warriors may be able to start fights at max adrenaline depending on how the “mobs” are implemented. And thats assuming the pirates are target-able creatures. They may not be. But might be far closer to a mobile map mechanic.

There are a lot of ways they could be implemented just from sitting down and thinking about it for 30 seconds. Lets actually LOOK at the map before losing our minds.

lots of pvp suggestions given: anet heard this

http://massivelyop.com/2016/07/12/a-sneak-peek-at-guild-wars-2s-living-world-season-3-episode-1-out-of-the-shadows/

Then you have “Revenge of the Capricorn,” a revamped version of the retired Raid on the Capricorn. The old map was removed due to the underwater element, as the team wanted to focus more on land combat (so no, we won’t have any underwater battles here). It’s a move I’m particularly disappointed with, as I really enjoyed the underwater combat. It’s a big reason RotC was my favorite PvP map. At least players will be able to enjoy some Lion’s Arch architecture again!

As before, you’ll have three points to capture, but now in addition to players, you’ll have the pirates of the Capricorn roaming the map for revenge. Players are supposed to need to unite at times to fight against the third faction. To help with this, there will be a new bell objective capturable at 3-minute intervals that signals a canon fires on the Capricorn. It also awards your team some points, and capturing it multiple times in a row gives you an additional bonus (first 25, then 50, 75). The idea is that the objective can be used as both a “winning more” mechanic or a way of making a comeback.

indeed, when offering anet suggestions, remember: how can this work for 5v5 conquest maps

While I understand those people saying that gear / skins should never be made unavailable, there is at least one aspect of this game that depends heavily on the idea of exclusivity: Legendaries. At least some people work so hard for them because they like the idea of having something that others don’t. If Twilight started out easier to get so 50% of players already had it, and then Anet changed the method of getting Twilight to be as difficult as it is now, I bet a lot of players wouldn’t bother trying for it because “its common”.

the actual solution is to focus on making pvp fun, then worry about mmr and esports

if u make things fun, people will come, then you can try to worry about mmr and esports

You keep using the words MMR and esports, but I don’t think you quite understand what they mean.

Better balance would make the combat more fun, but better balance won’t make matchups more fun.

i think u misunderstand.

focus on making the game fun, then focus on matchmaking, then focus on esports.

when the game is fun, people will play it. when more people play it, u will reduce the q time and have a bigger pool of people to make matches for. when u have a bigger pool of people making matches you will have add’l good people playing, when you have add’l good people playing you will have more exciting and diverse games (not the same ~20 people playing each other for $$), once the games are more exciting and diverse you can focus on esports

That makes sense and that’s something I agree with.

Unfortunately the team that works on class balance/new maps/“fun” is not the team that works with PvP matchmaking and league design.

“Fun” is not going to happen for the next 6 months. Matchmaking changes will.

i would mostly agree too. i don’t know why u put quotes on fun tho. i think u can objectively argue anet’s focus has not been on fun, but on their esports ambition.

as someone once said:

if fun was a goal of gw2 pvp, we would have:

Jaxom.7310

How is class balance viability? Are most classes still pigeon-holed into 1-2 specs?

Thanks for the nice response btw

most classes are still fairly pigeon holed. in general, for most of the pve stuff, you can play however you want, even if its a healing necro or a support theif, it probably doesn’t matter.

one thing that is a stickler for many is that they added a series of skills and such with the expansion for each class. in general, these are considered an improvement to the base versions that came w/ the original game. its not a whole lot of skills to the point it completely changes the class, but it does add some features. read about them on the wiki, they are called elite specs.

if you want to do fractals, which are basically short form dungeons, you’ll want to be more in line w/ what is expected of your class, but it still not too strict until you get to the higher, more difficult ones.

they added some raiding to the expansion, i think classes are pigeon holed there more or less too. if u can find a nice guild that raids, you may be fine here too.

i’d take that other guy up on his in game offer. traits and such have changed a bit, so you’ll have lots of questions about what you are looking at in that regard.

if he/she’s not around, do a map chat in LA or divinity’s reach, someone will prob be more than ready to answer any q’s u have

How is the game’s pop? Due to mega servers, it feels fine so long as you don’t spvp. in pve it feels fine. wvw is so, so, but i don’t do enough of that to comment strongly on it. I think in general it is on the up and up, but i think it still depends on your server.

dev support? decent, but for issues you should make a big stink about it on reddit, lots more eyes there

transparency? almost non existent.

content updates? have been few and far between since the expansion last year, but they are starting to ramp up to a new story arc, so it should feel good to you for now.

cash shop? still not pay to win, are some nice cosmetics and convenience items in there

*TLDR: Polish the game. Make it enjoyable. Then the pvp community will grow by itself. *

i think u got this part rite and i would agree there

they need to focus on making pvp fun, someone said it like this

make it fun
>more players pvp since its… fun
>better population means better Q times
> better Q (and more people) means more people will try to organize as teams
>more teams means more competition in the top tourneys
>more competition + more people can increase the drive for people to actually watch the matches
>more people watching matches means we can start to think of esports again

so i am currently reading this “world trigger” manga and the “border” soldiers have “ranked battles” which are basically 3 vs 3 vs 3 annihilation battles.

could guild wars 2 spvp work with something like that ?

discuss !

the issue here that is a crux of many pvp suggestions and the primary problem with them: you are thinking of modes/things that might focus on being “fun”

anets current pvp strategy does not include “fun” in it. before you give a suggestion you need to start with: “how does this work for 5v5, 3pt conquest mode”

if your suggestion does not start here, it is already being ignored

Guild Halls for Smaller Guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hello.

As a member of a small guild, who does not want to be part of a larger 100+ player guild, I and my guildies have found the task of upgrading the guild hall to be somewhat insurmountable. While it is “possible” with enough time, the cost is vast to the point of being disheartening.

I thought of a few possible solutions of how to fix this issue, like reduced costs for guilds with less members, but I realized that such systems would be exploitable. For example, you could buy a guild hall, but don’t invite members to the guild yet. Get all your potential members to send you resources and upgrade the hall at a reduced cost, and then invite them afterwards.

So after some deliberating, I’ve come up with what I think is an ideal solution that both circumvents possible exploits, while giving smaller guilds some love.

Introduce smaller guild halls.

The idea behind this is to add smaller guild halls that are separate from the larger ones, and that specifically cater to guilds with less than 50 members. You could make it so that smaller guild halls can only be acquired by guilds with less than 50 or so members and if a guild ever grows beyond that capacity, it has to buy a larger guild hall.

Smaller guild halls will also be much cheaper to upgrade, but because of their player limit, you can’t exploit them by upgrading them and then inviting more players afterwards. Their upgrades would also be counted as separate from the large guild halls, so if you move from a small to large guild hall, the upgrades will not be carried over (this will again help avoid exploits where a large guild would first purchase all upgrades and then move to a large guild hall afterwards to benefit).

This is honestly the best solution I can think of to cater to smaller guilds, without penalizing larger ones (the average cost per player could work out to be similar), and I think this would be a great addition to the game.

u must not have known, but this game is trying to cater more towards larger groups and content that will support that.

lik others have said, you aren’t blocked out of progressing your guild hall, but its designed for big groups as anet intended

anet created these halls and raids and the like to give more organized and bigger groups of people things to do and u should be able to appreciate that this approach is for the better of the game and everyone who plays it
