Season 2: Per character MMR revealed.

Jaxom.7310

Just a quick message to let you all know Season 2 will include the ability to show per-character MMR for ranked sPvP. I think this is a great decision on ArenaNet’s behalf and shows they are really listening to the community and not hiding anything. Transparency is key when it comes to competitive play, so this is a step in the right direction.

Thank you for listening ArenaNet.

EDIT: Also just found out group and solo queues will be separate! Woohoo!

not only that, they are also adding a tru 5v5, gw1 RA style mode and even allowing dueling in hotm to help with the boredom during queues.

and we thought we’d never see the day!

So a guy like me that can only play for about an hour a night at a certain time, HoT is not me then… I had lots of time as a student back couple of years, but didn’t have much money. Even buying GW2 at launch was an investment at the time. Now that I’m a working member of society, my time is very limited, but I have no problem buying HoT financially. Ah the irony.

You can do anything everyone else does just in 1hr chunks; if you want certain meta events for example look up the timers on dulfy and come on for an hour at the appropriate time, if you want the Raid bosses do one at a time or pay for a guild to boost you through them, Fractals and story missions can be done comfortably inside an hour.

If you have restrictions on your time you just need to do a bit of planning around your schedule (as with everything else you do in your time poor life).

indeed, u need to learn to adjust your time and schedule and create a plan to have fun playing gw2, u can’t expect to just login and have fun

So, if queueing from outside HotM is so problematic, what about just making HotM a more interesting place to spend your time while queued?

Maybe add a jumping puzzle…more NPCs to fight…some other sort of puzzle/games…

I mean, you could probably meet with the people who designed the adventures and come up with some sort of interesting stuff for people to mess around with until the queue pops.

all that takes a bit of time, planning, dev, $$$

rather, think small, simple, and easy – a area for people to fight each other

wi already there to battle… so. problem solved

From what I read in this thread, the words “Anet, please spoon-feed us!”
But seriously, everyone’s a critic. Get over it. I’ve read so much complaints in this thread, my question is, why do you still play? You are literally critical about EVERY single, aspect. meta events, HoT map layouts (looking at you TD), raids being too hard, fractals being kitten (I personally think so anyway), Masteries being too hard to get (what?). If you have so much of an issue with it, just don’t play. It’s probably better for you to quit than to complain about a game you apparently don’t enjoy. Not saying you have to like EVERYTHING, but if you dislike 90% of the game, then there is no point in you playing.

i think people complain because of what the core game was, which the people very much enjoyed, and the direction anet is seemingly taking w/ it.

there is nothing wrong w/ people expressing their disappointment, why they are disappointed, and suggesting what could have made it a more positive direction

KDB Daewoo: sales warning for HoT

I think alot of the community negativity surrounding the expansion has put people off. It was defiantly more hyped than what 10 months justified. As a guild leader I can see populations in the recruitment scene has dropped and how many inactive I kick a month has increased since November compared to pre-launch.

While HoT delivered alot of things it also broke alot of things. Also the shift in the sudden shift in the target audience coupled with the slow pace of content delivery has many players of GW2 former casual fan base displaced.

If you are a casual player you have no new content coming to you before March 2016.

If you are a hardcore player. You have probably cleared the raid more than once and are wondering why you keep doing it every week. You know there is a raid wing planned before March 2016, or atleast a release date before then right?

ArenaNet is trying to do to much to target to many audiences and I don’t think anyone is at the point of being impressed and many are unsatisfied.

agreed, it seems when deving hot anet had 2 possible directions
- double down on the core of the game (largely casual friendly)
- fill in the gaps that other games target but gw2 doesn’t really fill (raids, large guilds stuff)

they chose to fill in gaps to capture players that were disinterested in the core, and assume the core will remain content w/ the content of the core game

Balance Goals for the Winter 2016 Update

Aside from skill adjustments, another way we can adjust balance in PvP is by looking at the runes/sigils/amulets that are available for use through the customization panel.

I would be interested in hearing thoughts (with the high-level goals from the blog in-mind) on adding/removing various sigils/amulets/runes. In general, our goal for PvP is to be faster-paced with a higher-level of lethality than what we’re seeing in S1.

I know we’ve had this conversation a few times before, but it’s always important to have this discussion with the correct context in mind.

cele amulet should be nerfed, too many prof use it due to how good it is.

always liked zealot stats. if u can’t/don’t/won’t go full pow/heal/preci, consider making it one of th 4 split stats, pow/heal/prec/boon or pow/heal/prec/fero.

Question is did they add a field they can easily tag to allow a “_ all” or are each of these specially coded. If it’s the first way then once you decide on what should or shouldn’t have this feature, it’s intern grunt work to tag the appropriate items and then do a diff to see if you did it right. If they did it the second way, too much work to make it wide spread without going back and implementing the first way.

i believe i agree. better way of saying than i did

chances are they just didn’t think it thru enough when they 1st created the structure of items and how they will be used/double clicked.

since they didn’t include it from the beginning, they have to go in and add the functionality to every item that needs consume all, 1 by 1.

I am a software engineer. What you are claiming is that EVERY STINKING ITEM in the game has its own menu generation code. I think the likelihood of that is slightly less than my chances of winning the Powerball lottery.

lets say i am too. say they have a map or set of arrays or something similar. it was designed with a certain set of items w/in it. such as, open, destroy, sell on tp, whatever else.

what they didn’t include in that structure was an item for consume all. so, rather than rebuild that structure, they are hardcoding the specific ones that need it.

whats my basis? consume all didn’t exists for 3 years on any items, not that i can recall, and the ones that have it now seem pretty specific and it seems missing from some items that could easily use it

Dueling and Inspecting?

I’m yet to read a competent argument as to why dueling is a toxic / bad feature.

I’ve yet to read a competent argument as to why we need more options for dueling when 3 currently exist.

That said see the lovely response from Jaxiom. When someone doesn’t want to duel them imagine that. Now imagine it from a 12 year old whose verbose vocabulary extends to only 4 letter words and feeling like necrophilia is a good thing.

Pretty much explains why dueling in PvE is bad, dueling itself in player controlled environments is fine.

u act as if i’m being a bad guy here, i’ve given real answers to why it’d be a useful feature. only one of us has referred to a group of players as “a 12 year old whose verbose vocabulary extends to only 4 letter words and feeling like necrophilia is a good thing.” and a group that would “turn a PvE environment hostile, volatile and full of petulant attacks.”

if u really need reasons, recall only 1 reason should matter, its fun for a lot of people. another, it gives players something to do while they sit around waiting for bosses, events, etc to spawn. it lets people have a pvp option in a more varied setting. there are little arena style locations around tyria that would be fun places for setting up dueling tourneys.

reasons why current solutions aren’t that, pvp custom arenas use pvp amulets not ur normal gear, they remove you from the world and whatever u were waiting on doing (see events/bosses/etc spawn), guild hall arena has the same prob it removes u from the world and whatever you wanted to do.

I’d love a dueling option, but a massive no thank you to gear checks. (PvP and WvW are not viable options due to build restrictions and server issues)

Dueling would have to be handled carefully as not to offend people, like something similar to GTA online, where you have the option to flag yourself as “combat ready” so players who weren’t interested could carry on with normal activities and not be effected by it.

and if you are not flagged as ready cause you maybe dont care about that feature you are the “coward”, the “noob” or “scared”….had it all, just throwing that in, whatever, carry on with the topic…

trolls are going to find a way to troll, its what they do. that doesn’t mean every1 who would enjoy a feature will also troll.

i’d think w/ the friendly, best mmo community out there would be supportive of more ways to play and enjoy the game, not restrict it

Duel in your guild hall or the Custom arena.

There’s 0 reason to turn a PvE environment hostile, volatile and full of petulant attacks.

i have a small guild, so i don’t get an arena in a guild hall. custom arena doesnt’ use pve stats, only spvp amulets and it removes you from the events you were waiting to spawn or whatever u were doing in game

there are a number of reasons to want to duel in pve environment, but theres only 1 reason that should matter, its fun for a lot of people. when did having fun become not a valid reason?

only 1 of us sounds hostile to me.

Sounds like you made a choice. Sucks, but life is filled with choices. Your “small guild” could easily meet the bare minimum to use the arena or ask any “friends” to duel in their hall.

Seems the only one being restrictive here is you

i think the game is best when it opens up as many ways to do as many things as it can. small group, large group, solo group whatever.

more ways to play = more fun for more people. why is that wrong? thanks for your helpful and supportive voice. the best from the best community.

Trolling with Faucets

Today I’ve encountered a troll using swiftness faucet on the spiral jumping puzzle in Caledon Forest. Annoying other people with random swiftness became way easier thanks to revenants, so please give us an option to block/disable buffs from other players.

Whereas I sympathise with you, it’s not actually a problem with the class or class mechanics – it’s a problem with the individual player.

that can’t be the problem. gw2 has the friendliest, most helpful, and best player base of any mmo.

if sumthing lik this can happen, it must be a game issue that needs resolving

consider this: if fun was a goal of gw2 pvp, we would have:

soloq
tru tdm (that 1 map don’t count an u kno it)
dueling (at least in the hotm)
something (anything) to do while waiting on queue
random arena (gw1 style or similar)
other modes (2v2, 3v3 whatevs)
original hotjoin (8v8 10v10, something like alliance battles in gw1)
… prob forgetting something….

pt is, any or all of those things could add a level of fun for at least some people

rather than seeing any of these things, we see anet push esports and team queue for conquest

therefore, fun is not a part of the current goals/strategy for gw2 pvp

But I do prefer the idea of duelists meeting up in specific places to challenge each other, it seems more realistic.

There’s a few places that come to mind, but I’m on my phone so looking up exact names isn’t practical. There’s a spot in Diessa Plateau, just above the entrance to Wayfarer Foothills where the Charr have a small arena for this exact purpose and other races have started to join in.

its wut the person above mentioned

There’s also a lodge in Wayfarers where the norn hold 1v1 tournaments, which you visit during the personal story.

maybe this one

According to Edge of Destiny there was an arena in LA. Obviously it’s gone now but they could rebuild it. Before it was destroyed to make way for the Royal Terrace I’d have suggested the shrine to Balthazar in DR too.

Maybe some of the places the Seraph, Wardens, Peacekeepers etc. Train too.

I think Elites should be account bound… It would really help out WvW players who have 17 or more toons.

WvW maybe get a PvP template? Or all Elites unlocked similar to PvP in WvW?

What ever the case, it really sucks being in a PvP environment where my enemies and myself are sub-par because we dislike PvE grinding Elite skills, we are after all in a PvP environment and it makes no sense to punish PvP focused players for it.

(I run Daredevil in WvW, most people I come across are strill grinding elites, maxed out Daredevil vs a Tempest with only 20 points invested is not a fun fight at all for either side)

WvW getting an sPvP template does sound good at first but if that happens the PvE content is completely obsolete since you’re no longer required to PvE in order to obtain ascended gear and then skins to look cool. The current system of WvW is fine on that front since it gives PvE meaning and purpose. WvW does need some big changes though to avoid empty maps. Maybe add a map with more environmental factors so a smaller side could still choke a larger zerg like what happened in 300? Traditional WvW with big open fields and fort raiding is fun (especially the jumping puzzle) but there needs to be more map variety.

at launch, as your server gained pts and such in wvw, your server in pve would gain some small benefits, +gathering%, and such. gave some pt to actually winning in wvw.

think they did away w/ it because of or around megaserver times? not shore, maybe still there but i dont’ think it is

i am saying the entirety of gw2 since hot has been very large group oriented and has made it more and more difficult to enjoy as a small group/solo and i don’t want another part of the game to do that and lock out smaller groups, including people who play solo
