Sorry if it had been suggested hundreds times, it probably had but couldn’t find it. Still here I am.
I have some issues with the current PvP mode and I will try to explain why.
The current setting is about capturing 3 points on the map and try to hold it to gain points, each map having different tweaks to make them “unique”.First, the cap system is … creating a strange meta. Why strange ? Well because it gives a strong benefit from being a bunker and/or being extremly fast to go capture points. I don’t see how it is supposed to be fun, I can understand it’s enjoyable at very high level in tournament, maybe why not. But it’s extremly unpleasant to play with a “random” pickup team because it’s nearly impossible to have any form of synergy during the game whether it’s because of the builds, the classes or just the way each move and which point they want to cap.
In addition it creates some weird hide and seek situations where you start a 1vs1 fight, and as soon as one on any team arrives the guy facing the two others or suicide (or try to make it last as long as possible) or logically runs away making a chasing boring situation which leads in a non-fighting situation again.Why the very simple but so effective arena system of GW1 hasn’t been kept or at least made possible in a different game mode ? Isn’t it possible to just add it as a test, a very simple 5vs5 fight with no timer or death count, just the last team to stand wins and that’s it. You could keep the current conquest (and bastion) game modes and add this as a side mode and see if it’s popular or not, the conquest map could very much work with that kind of rule, tweaking slightly the specialties of each map, keeping maybe Svanir and the chief, or putting just one of the two in the fort place to have fighting situations, putting a few bonus (damage, armor etc) orbs in the temple map, why not letting the trebuchet in Khylo etc.
I spent so many hours in GW1 arena just having fights over and over without ever getting bored from it and here I’m just so hugely frustrated from that capture the area system which focuses so heavily on moving around more than fighting for real. That kind of rules should only apply to WvW at a larger scale (capturing a keep etc), but not on such a small scale. Or at least just in one map I don’t know. I want to have real 5vs5 fights with nice teamplay and nice actions rather than having XvsX fights depending solely on who knows when and how to move around the map.
Any thoughts on that ?

i mean, i think it was technically possible to jump off a cliff in wvw, and just before hitting the ground you JI into a rabbit or something, but that was not easy to pull off
Preventing JI while jumping should not be the same than preventing while channeling a skill (even in animation looks you are in the air)

If Karl doesn’t want to make all traps ground targetable, how about adding an F4 where you can slot one trap at a time to be placed using ground target, maybe that could work?
This is my thought for F4:
Virtue of Perseverance
Active: 25% Increased Movement Speed
Passive: Teleport an untriggered trap to your target.Then the trap trait could be a GM that lets you teleport all untriggered traps to the target. Not sure about the cooldown. Probably high. This would make traps more interesting and give Guardian the much needed move speed increase(though I would prefer that particular boon to be for the base Guardian).
players don’t want to be tied into a single utility. its fine, dh is made to work w/ traps (not really but, that was the idea).
but don’t force dh into trap builds. i think all trait lines should have diff (optimal or not) ways to play them. i should be able to take honor and play it as a dps class or a support class. i should be able to take dh and play how i want to play, don’t lock it to traps tots

unfortunately most of the players on dis forums have no love for the solo or small guild. i’ve sayd my peace about it, but most people respond like the pope above. that is, they dont’ care and think u should play their way. hence the direction anet seems to want to go w/ the game
best bet is to use the LFG and the note saying no speed runs or u are a beginner etc.
they nerfed hammer long time ago with glacial heart, this one just made it obsolete. Use GS + x/shield now.
Glacial Heart was always bad as far as I remember.
What really changed at trait rework was the “two-handed training” that reduced all 2 handed weapons by 20% all in 1 trait now being split up.
However mighty blow being THE most important skill on hammer it doesn’t matter that much to have or not have that cooldown reductionTo play hammer effectively it’s important to NOT use autoattack 3 when you don’t need it.
Meaning that you hit 1 and 2 then chain with either mighty blow or whatever other skill that will reset the auto chain. (the ward doesn’t)
A guardian with scepter/focus will do decently well but what you lose in ranged options you gain in damage. An aoe 4k every 5 sec, it’s just insane in terms of damage how much more potent the hammer is on marauder stats.OP: what is the recent change to JI ?

yep guild alliances in gw1 is how my small guild (same members today ~5-10) were able to always have someone else to talk/run missions/pvp with, without ever losing our small nit guild id
My problem with this map is that there are no comebacks, and matches are nearly always lopsided.
The problem is once the inner gate is down or very close to being down, you have to go on defense or you will lose. Of course once you are on defense you forfeit all chances of winning and your defeat is a matter of time.
This map is pretty much won and lost in the opening play. The rest of the match is merely a formality.
not entirely, if your team can wipe the enemy in your lord’s room, and maintain def, you’ll prob get more points than the enemy, and win w/ points. dats wat happened me to a match dis weekend. for the enemy to win after a lord room wipe they need to really re-coord the off push, and ensure they can whittle down the adds and the boss
i think it just shows a lack of real cohesion in the dh. some of the other specs just seem like their traits and skills just meld together real well, but the dh is just a bunch of random things stuck together

1. I cannot do anything while waiting for JW/Teq or world bosses or guild missions or events to start, so I’m just standing around doing nothing when my friends and I could be having some fun. If I leave to goto a custom arena, I am restricted to PvP gear and will likely miss the event or not be able to get back into the map, if I leave to goto the GH and do it, I miss the event or cannot get back into the map. Sometimes you can be standing around in a specific map for hours just waiting for an event to start. Not fun.
2. I do not care less about kicking anyone’s bum in public or teaching PvP skills, or even actually winning the duels, but my friends and I would like to be able to do it with our down time in PvE without having to leave the map. Mostly, I enjoy duelling because it makes me a better player and improves my reflexes and tactics and strategy for key bindings etc. You don’t improve by winning as much as losing.
I really don’t see it even happening in crowded places, because you want open ground so that there are fewer distractions, other animations, other effects or just random people running past. Take Teq for example, nobody is going to duel near the zerg because they would not be able to see what was going on, same goes for near the bank or TP in LA. They will move away off to the side. If people wanted to troll you, they can already do that by spamming skills and animations in crowded areas, how much of that do you see going on?
There should also be an option to check so that you are able to even be invited to duel, an icon should appear on your effects bar for that.
You know, I think most of the time I would spend duelling would be with a couple of mates doing random things in PvE and at the same time, having a bit of ‘friendly fire’ going on and having a laugh about it.
What sucks now is that we actually mock do it, dodging and everything like shadow boxing, its just nowhere near as fun.

My personal belief is there will be people who dont’ pvp at all. Or stop pvping because there isn’t solo queue.
So when anet are considering queue time or people who queue in different size, I also want to point out Anet might loss potential pvp players because they are forced to queue with premades.
Weather solo queue is a good idea or not. Anet probably knows better than most of us since they have all the data. But it seemed most people want solo queue. And premades dont’ want to fight solo players anyway.

Look this scenario:
Go in soloqueue, 6min + in queue doing nothing in the MIST, other 1 min and half before the match. Bad matchmaking, bad roster sizes matched (more solo in a side and solid premade in the onther side) and bad prof compositions = bad game.
Ofc game lost and Time wasted 17 min more or less.
In like 2 hours of game this scenario can hapen a lot. This is a common scenario with the soloqueue experience with this matchmaking.
Final result: quit or just do something else + complaints.
this was my experience and result. now if i pvp its just hotjoin. at least there its usu solo players and i don’t have to waste so much time on terrible matchups
i remember waiting for 2 hours between twisted marionette events because i didn’t want to miss being on a full server.
I was jus two bored. if there was dueling, i culd have don that while waiting. but instead i think i jus afk, and came back to gw2 every 20 min or so so i wouldn’t git kicked for inactivity
similar w/ vinewrath when first released, altho the wait was never that long. dueling pepole while waitin wuld have ben coo
i think dueling is a good idea. always thought it weird it isn’t in gw2. i played swtor for a while and i only ever got a duel request once in that neutral traders city. i declined and never saw the person again.

this is why i jus hotjoin, almost all solo players, and u don’t have to endure an awful ~10 min match that ur pug don’t stand a chance against, u can just leave until you find a balanced-ish one
go to hotjoin. less premades/ teams and mostly all solo players. theres not really any balance and the matches might snoball pretty fast, but the nice part about hotjoin is u can just leave rather than have to torture yourself for another ~10 min
just bounce around servers until u find a good one and u can usu just stay in there. you get practice that way too.
win u look at tha list, join the ones that are named “Server 0xx”, as those are the system ones, the ones w/ real names is a custom arena someone set up. of course, those can be good too, but sometimes a guild is practicing in there or whatver, so i usu do the system ones

tink i mentioned this before, they held off dragonhunter changes from BWE2 until BWE3 so essentially wat u saw in BWE2 was already old DH stuff.
they said sumthing like “it was too late to submit all the changes in time for BWE2 but we’ll see them in BWE3”
in reality, they wanted to work on the other profs, ignore guards for a bit under the guise of “well u haven’t rally seen the latest DH, so just wait until after that before we talk DH again”

I have to laugh that ANet specified Drones aren’t like SW"s … but they are … they have health, they last a fixed duration, they follow you around, you can command some of them.

3. You still have to fulfill the range threshold requirement on the skills it even works with. (Which means it does not always work on skills it even affects)
There are more builds where this does NOT work than builds where this works.If you still do not see why so many people here find Dragonhunter Minor traits lackluster(even useless) you must really not be Pure of Sight.

ideally, i want to have a theme for each trait line, and have each line have a flavor and a spec concept. there are alot of useless traits that dont make sense.
I also dont think that having monks focus and altruistic healing in competing spots is a good idea. altruistic healing feels more like a honor trait, as its about boons. monks focus i would put in zeal as its more about conditions.
valor feels more like a defensive line about taking hits (which in itself is against the gw2 idea as evasion is defense and taking hits is often fatal in most cases.) for stalwart defender i would change it so while a shield is equipped, you are immune to critical hits.
add in a trait that gives you a 33% chance to gain retaliation upon being hit
2nd trait: when hit while under the effects of retaliation, cause burning to the attacker.
3rd trait: 15% damage reduction while virtue of courage is on cooldown.
I really love your Trait Ideas with the retaliation and the burn on reta, I also like the 15% dmg reduction while courage is on cooldown, tbh i wish Anet would consider your ideas while balancing the guardians, they are REALLY creative
But I also have to say Immunity against Crits while wielding a shield might be to strong, make it “immunity against crits while you are below 50% or 30% health while wielding a shield” sounds still really really op, but would definitly make me play shield instad of scepter. That are some ideas which would make shield viable, not reducing the cooldowns, like anet likes to do.

We’re a small guild. [Who] only has around 5-10 active members, but we want to get that number up closer to 30ish.
No real reqs to join us other than be friendly and play often. We’re pretty casual but we are rolling basically every night for a couple to few hours, usu longer on the weekends.
Mostly pve, but couple of us pvp and wvw when we are feeling up for it.
If you want to teamspeak/razer comms/ whatever we can, but its not req’d. We just want more bodies to roll out w/ and chat with.

got another trait idea:
valor grandmaster
sacred ground: leaving a symbol before it ends causes 1 second of stun.i was initially thinking of having an effect like hammer#5 on symbols as a control mechanic, but thought that was too punishing, so a stun effect for prematurely leaving a symbol gives a control option for mace and staff guardians for support. this can also work great for greatsword for preventing mobs from instantly scattering or some idiot from using aoe knockback after you just finished gathering with gs #5.
granted stability can still counter this.
this is great except u put it in valor. I’d even take this over that zeal symbol trait. in fact merge this w/ that zeal trait, and i’d be ok with the measly 10% dmg bonus
