Queuing Outside of HotM

in PvP

Posted by: Jaxom.7310

Jaxom.7310

There were a few reasons for keeping players in HotM when queued:

  • It forces new players to recognize they have completely different builds in PvP maps.
  • You won’t miss the match accept because of load screens and get dishonor.
  • We can make a better user experience (match accept and map voting) without having to worry about interrupting whatever a player might be doing elsewhere.

In order to allow queuing from outside HotM, we would need to change these things.

  • We would need tech to remove players temporarily from queue during load screens.
  • Create better tutorials or gating for new players so they don’t hop into PvP unprepared.
  • Revisit the way the match flow UI works.

Opposite effect as you wanted on me.

< Veteran PvX player. I love doing stuff in gw2. I hate waiting. In the past i could wvw, do another hotjoin pvp match, do pve farming, while waiting for queue. If i got interrupted, so be it. Sometimes my match was about to end (485 point on me or opposite team) and i got pulled out. While to bad i didn’t get rewards, no big deal, I knew this could happen when i press the ‘queue’ button.

While this certainly is not the only reason, it’s one of the major reasons i play pvp a lot less. Make the wait time sometime i can multitask (for do my daily achievement in pve/wvw) while I hit the queue button and I will be a lot more inclined to play pvp. But it’s not. And the queue are long. But in the past i couldnt care less about long queues, it would let me finish a match in hotjoin grab some reward then do a SoloQ run.

dis guy gits it. if u want people to play your game… actually give them something to play… not sit around bored n waiting…

this is a game right? games are supposed to be fun, i don’t have fun waiting in line at the apple store for my new iphone, an i don’t have fun waiting in queue either

can you make kittening warrior like meditation guardian that does 2000 self heal when equipping berserker ammy? Or 1800 ally heal so war can come back as zerker/support hybrid.

So that it will have sustain that can endure current meta’s bunch of random dodge, random block, random blind, random traps, random slow, random evading/dodging attack and etc.

Also, convert a condi into a boon per shout like guardian does from trait.

agreed, and cut wars base health by about 7.5k too so that they need to heal 2k just to have some sustain

nipped

Keep this in mind:
-> people said that gw2 pvp is smaller than gw1 pvp: It isn´t
-> people said gw2 pvp wouldnt grow: it is growing
-> people said there wouldn´t be leagues: there are
-> people said meta needed more variety: we have the largest number of meta builds ever

So who knows what will happen next

1. gw2 likely has a broader market appeal than gw1 did. so more players in tots = moar likely in pvp. so theres a bias built in here. maybe if the statement from anet was ‘gw2 has a higher % of players in pvp than gw1 ever did’ i’d be on board w/ u
2. similar bias built in, we can imagine that the f2p add + xpac resulted in add’l players coming into gw2, resulting in a tot pop growth, resulting in teh likelyhood that some of them would try pvp. what anet didn’t say was ‘we have a higher % of people queueing up every day’.
3. don’t care
4. don’t care

so u aren’t wrong, but u gat to see how they can be telling the truth, but not the whole truth. we can’t expect them to give us full deets, and i don’t hold it against them, but that leaves us w/ player’s perception.

maybe (read likely) i’m wrong/in the minority on this one, but my queues kept going up (when i did queue solo) my enjoyment kept going down, and the number of custom servers full is fewer and fewer. so from my pov, theres less people to play w/

Does this mean there gonna nerf raids?

Hey

I’ve also asked for a solo queue before and some problems also frustate me daily.

But…they are comited to the goal of giving us a fair mmr algorithm that can handle teams and solo queuers alike, this is frustating to us because we want the game fixed now….but if they pull it off (even if it takes a while) the game will be more fun than ever to all of us (more players to face).

I can´t tell you if they will be able to do a fair algorithm to solo and teams, but Justin is working his kitten off, he’s very active on forums and hes investigating what’s happening…he’s going in the right direction.

Let’s give him a chance and some time

people have axed for soloq since it was removed… so they’ve had time here’s the crux of the issue from anets pov of why they won’t change the queues

anet splits queue, so # of people for teams to face drops off
?teams have to wait longer to play
?teams stop playing as teams because they so bored

^ thats the fear, the reality:

anet merged queue, so # of people for teams to face jumps up
?teams have shorter to wait to play
?teams roll over soloq’rs (or at least is perceived as such)
?soloq’rs leave spvp/leave queuing/leave gw2
?total pop falls
?queue times begin to rise again
?back where we started, except the overall pop is down

so wat do they do? the moment they split it back up, queue times for teams def jumps up as all those soloq’rs go back to soloq’ing.

wat anet isn’t considering is that when people are having fun, they will continue to play and can try to bring their friends over/spread the word of fun/grow more.

the current strat is to force people to play X way, try to entice w/ $$$ in tourneys to get the pop up, all the while neglecting the #1 important aspect of gaming… having fun

Premades vs soloers.

in PvP

Posted by: Jaxom.7310

Jaxom.7310

The fix is easy.
-5 man premades can only face 5 man premades
-4 man premades can face high mmr 3 OR normal mmr 4 man premades
-3 man premades can face either 3 man premade/double duo premades/or if high mmr players 4 man premades.
-Duo’s can only face a team where the opposite side has a duo as well, only 1 duo per team if against another team with only 1 duo.
-Solo queue fill in, but SPECIFICALLY looks for 5 other solo players. Make it so they have a rotation to keep queue times shorter. all solo queue-fill in IF NEEDED-all solo queue-fill in IF NEEDED, that way they aren’t constantly fill in’s.

Put this on ALL brackets, ranked and unranked and that is your fix.

If something like this isn’t done Honestly I ONLY play solo queue sPvP and SOMETIMES go into WvWvW, I plan to quit the game permanently.

oh and Please don’t say the programming is hard for this.

class Teamqueue {
public static void main(String[] args) {
if (ispremade) {
//Sets if its a premade
Playercount—;
//amount of players for sending to queueagainst
} else {
queueagainst(“You are now in Queue”);
//links to algorithm that I pointed out above, and announces to player he is in the queue
}
}

obviously this is HEAVILY simplified, awful formatting, and the code itself has better commenting than the kitten hackjob i did…but not hard to code

don’t think any1 saying its diff to program, the problem is

anet splits queue, so # of people for teams to face drops off
→teams have to wait longer to play
→teams stop playing as teams because they so bored

^ thats the fear, the reality:

anet merged queue, so # of people for teams to face jumps up
→teams have shorter to wait to play
→teams roll over soloq’rs (or at least is perceived as such)
→soloq’rs leave spvp/leave queuing/leave gw2
→total pop falls
→queue times begin to rise again
→back where we started, except the overall pop is down

so wat do they do? the moment they split it back up, queue times for teams def jumps up as all those soloq’rs go back to soloq’ing.

I’m genuinely getting more and more baffled by the complaints on this forum.

You can’t expect content to be balanced around 2-3 person guilds. That doesn’t even qualify as a full party!

The game type should clue you in… Massivley-Multiplayer-Online.

If you can’t stand the rest of the community to thebpointbyou have hamstring your enjoyment of the game… Well, that’s your issue and not Anets.

And for the love of Dhuum. Does ever single tiny tangential complaint need a new thread?! This forum is already hard enough to navigate without “I’m quitting HOT because X” thread number 9000.

You should all start an anti hot support group guild, then you will have plenty of people to get a guild hall.

/rant

I’m so tired of this argument. I’ve been playing GW2 since launch and they have inarguably made a HUGE change to the very point of their game and content and, in doing so, have completely annihilated the reasons I was playing this game. It’s completely within reason for me to be upset. I’m not speaking for YOU or for people who actually like hanging out in big guilds. I do not and have had no need to until this huge let-down of an expansion.

I think Anet underestimated the number of people who keep coming back to their game BECAUSE it was very casual-friendly. It is no longer so unless you are able to completely ignore the content you won’t ever see (like Weaponsmith 2 – skins I can never have because Anet put them behind a wall of friends I don’t have (or want). I can’t ignore that and am stating my valid argument for why this sucks. Of course people who are in big guilds won’t get this at all – I don’t expect you to.

u don’t realize that ur fun adn enjoyment will undermine his and all the other big guilds, they put time into being able to show they are more important than small guilds, and that needs to be recognized.

its not enough for big guilds to enjoy the game, but they need to have something to show smaller guilds they are better than them. ur enjoyment of the game would invalidate all the big guilds’ enjoyment, ie big guilds would be less fun if small guilds also had fun

they just need to roll dailes back to ver.2, i think it was v2.

basically there were a slew of maybe 20 items from:

kill 5 veterans
dodge 10 atks
kill 5 players

but u only needed 5 of the 20 or so for the daily, or something like that if i remember rite

what i did:

i play thru the game to get, levels, boss zergs, just regular exploration, maybe some wvw and pvp in there.

the result:

i usu managed to get the daily w/ regular play w/o specificly “ok now i need to go here and do X” check, “now lets go here and do Y”, check then. zzzzz….. lame because now its a checklist/chore rather than just natural daily u got as u played the game… daily

I also liked previous versions because I could get 1 AP point for each daily I chose to do. I’d like to go back to that, but I’m not hopeful on it. lol

agreed, possibly goes into the new anet direction… you need to play the game X way, not X, Y, Z or whatever u want

GW2s New Direction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Jaxom.7310

Jaxom.7310

A long time ago I was a hardcore raider in WoW (vanilla, bc, & wrath) and have conquered server-first boss kills, etc. I’ve since then accumulated a lot more real–life responsibilities that limit my play-time and make my schedules unpredictable. I am unable and unwilling to make commitments to guilds and to raiding because I do not want to feel that pressure to have to log on, to have to do this, to have to do that. I can’t keep up with that type of gaming anymore even though that itch is still there, it’s just not possible.

Guild Wars 2 never had any type of hardcore commitment; there was no monthly subscription either so it was always pick-up and play when you wanted. The game was designed around that and that’s what always kept me coming back. It’s why I’ve had the game since pre-release and I purchased the $100 copy of HoT.

The thing is HoT has moved the game in a much different direction than what GW2 represented to me and was to me prior to the expansion.

GW2 was a game where I could do anything at pretty much any time and have it feel meaningful while not having to dedicate a huge chunk or time or make a major commitment.

I could level up an alternate character through zones, story, crafting, EotM, or use the tons of tomes and scrolls I have lying around OR a combination of all of that OR only one of them!

I could PvP, WvW, Dungeon, Fractal, Explore (JPs / Other Achievements), or even do some World Bosses if I was on at the right time, pretty much at any time I wanted to.
I could do this on any of my characters with any type of gear and mostly any type of build.

HoT has changed all of that.

I have about 800-900 hours on my warrior (who is my main) but then I also have an additional 800 hours spread out amongst my alts. I have an 80 of every class (except rev). A few of them I have leveled up through story and map completions, some through EotM (somewhat recently but before HoT) and then I have a necro I leveled up with scrolls/tomes. Most of these characters I don’t play often enough to give them more than one set of exotic gear. In fact, even my warrior only has one set of gear and its exotic with some ascended trinkets, amulets, etc. and Twilight (which I FINALLY made a few weeks prior to HoT).

My point is, I play every aspect of the game and on a wide array of characters because not only do I enjoy it but because GW2 supported it and made it possible.

However, with the implementation of raids, the design of the new zones, and the destruction of dungeons and WvW I feel like I cannot do these things the way I used to and how the game was prior to HoT.

The design decision to have map-wide meta events tied to specific timers is extremely frustrating for me. If I do not log in or am not in a zone at a certain time I am out of luck for the next few hours if I want to complete it. I understand that they did not want map-hopping like SW but then maybe having 4 zones in HoT ALL with meta events was not exactly a great design.

Don’t get into a dragon stand map within in the first 30 minutes of the timer good luck finding one. Nobody attempts DS with an hour or even 90 minutes left on the timer.

Get into a fresh AB? have fun waiting about an hour for that Meta and it’s even longer with VB.

Oh, you need to complete VB event chains but log in during night time? Well, sorry, you have to wait 45 minutes until they begin.

This also ties into adventures being constantly locked due to map times and event progression. Need gold for those mastery points? You must progress the specific event for it and hopefully you have enough time to hone your skill at it before it closes!

Wait, you mentioned all the HoT zones but left out TD. Well, TD ties into two issues I have.

One, Guild Wars 2 was always about play how you want but in order to complete the Meta in that zone you must be a zerk meta advocate and spec’d specifically for DPS. Condi builds, GTFO, you can’t dps fast enough and your CC’s end up breaking the bar making the Gerent move which results in a dps loss for everyone.

Two, ANet talks about how they want you to be able to play how you want but then create a DPS race at the same time as saying they’re moving away from the zerk meta end-game.

Something doesn’t add up.

(I actually do not have an issue with Gerent, but I feel its poor taste to say one thing and design the opposite and then having the completion required for some collections/masteries/etc. despite the way it alienates players.)

Not only that but then they go ahead and create raids – the opposite of playing how you want. Raids are a pretty exclusive thing and a great thing for highly organized and structured guilds and players with manageable schedules. However, if you have been playing GW for this long I don’t think raids were something you were missing because the game has never been about them or designed with them in mind.

GW2 was always about doing what you wanted when you wanted and how you wanted.

You want legendary armor? You HAVE TO raid, you have to conform, you have to designate time in your schedule and study/learn boss mechanics . You need to have ascended gear because the Devs said it’s been tuned for such so no guild or PuG is going to let you in without it.

There are ways to create challenging group content for organized guilds for more than 5 players. Look at TT and even look at Gerent.

Honestly, ANet has just completely changed directions with the game and I personally do not like it. If I wanted a cookie-cutter raid based game I would not be playing GW2 there’s a million other games out there that have that and have it implemented better and were built around it as one of their core pillars. Throwing a raid into a 3 year old game with no supporting features around it is just poor design.

If they wanted to cater to the hardcore progression player, well, you already have fractals, too bad they can’t seem to get that right either.

Too much time and effort and tuning and perfection is required to create unique meaningful and challenging raids. ANet doesn’t have those types of resources and almost no game company does, look at the MMO landscape these days, every game gets chewed up and spit out when they resort to raiding as end-game.

I just do not understand what ANet was thinking when they decided to go in this direction with HoT and with the game in general.

I am not complaining about the value of the game. I definitely have gotten my money’s worth and do not feel cheated. I willingly paid the money for it and would do-so again. However, I just do not agree with the direction I am more and more beginning to realize that the game is going and wanted to voice my opinion and that fact that I may not be supporting the company in the future.

no time for all those other comments, but ur orig post was mostly inline w/ how i feel and i wanted to be sure i voiced support for u

What if you’re only source of stability is from dodge rolling and you’re already stuck inside it? IE, Revenant.

theres usu plenty of time to walk away before the ward traps u. it drops at the very end of the longbow #5 skill, so either pressure the dh so he breaks the skill before it finishes and drops the ward, or just walk/dodge away from where all those arrows are falling and u be A-OK

I said this regarding hotjoin, but i think it fits here. this is how i enjoy solo pvp, by playing hotjoin, not queuing up. the reasons:

-more soloq’rs
-no queue (read u can play right now, not 5+min from now)
-if match is too much a landslide, just leave and find a better server, nothing holding u there to waste your time. in otherwords, i get to play matches on my terms, not some terrible mmr where u have no idea if ur party is going to be dumb

in un/ranked if u get a terrible match up, or 3+ in a row, u are sol an just have to waste your time w/ a losing matchup.

in hotjoin, its up to you, an u can find a good fight eventually. it ain’t perfect, but my time is better spent playing the game on my terms rather than clicking around hoping ‘this matchup will be good, rite?’

just like any burst atk, if u are out of stab + dodges, u will prob melt.

so prior to release, it seemed pretty obv traps would be fairly useless as long as most people stab + dodge when they see them pop off, and a guard would be left pretty helpless at that point

that was a good suggestion. something that, probably i don’t know how their software works, but something maybe they could do is..

take that blue aura u see from equiping the elite signet (think thats where it is), and stick it under the guard while they are ‘charging’ up the true shot, but incr the size of the animation until the shot is released

You sure seem to know what you are talking about

I do know what I’m talking about. Not sure if you bothered to read my post or not. If not just take the time to do so now.

I run a Norn and I can guarantee we have a kneel animation. Which by the way is far more obvious than a humans.

See, this is the problem with DH players defending an obviously overpowered skill. They have no clue what they’re talking about. This is a norn casting true shot. Looks like every other bow animation. Don’t know if male norns do it any different so please post a screenshot if so.

Only female characters dont kneel bud, the males kneel. regardless if they wanted to change the animation then they need to look at the suggestions i made to make it more bad kitten looking, like a nuke. Other than that its fine and doesnt need a nerf, people need to stop wearing glass and complaining about getting rekked.

I just want a more active queue and a less snowball match atmosphere in hotjoin.. Really no matter which you play it would be better. So many ppl play just for the chests if you force them to queue for it the queues will start popping instantly.

And then hotjoin can just be a fun casual environment.

see i think we are actually on the same side here.

we both just want to play, less wasted time. its just a diff approach.

u are saying: ‘look all these players here could be in un/ranked, thus lowered queues and getting us to play more’

im’ saying: ‘look less options is going to turn off players not bring them to queue and get us to play more’

i think overall anet has gone w/ ur approach, lets funnel players where we want them to get more activity. but i dont’ think its been working, so i think they should go w/ a diff approach, which would be, give players more options, more ways to play, and more ways to have fun.

the more fun people are having, the more likely the population can rise.

If you’ve spent more then 2s in hotjoin ever you would see that’s all that happens in there. People wait to join a specific team and spam the join button. If they don’t get their way they leave, like the guy I quoted mentioned.

it does happen, and it def isn’t perfect, but at least we can play. win/loss doesn’t matter really, so just play n try to have fun. and when it is too much a landslide and it isn’t fun, just find a better server.

so yeah, not perfect, but its the only way for me to be able to play pvp w/o too much wasted time

So you play hotjoin to stack teams and farm rewards like pve and if you can’t do that you wont pvp? bye

i guess u didn’t actually want to have a discussion. but i’ll try 1 moar time.

i pvp because i want to play pvp, i find it fun to pvp. i dont’ want to wait in a queue or a terrible matchup (or several terrible matchups in a row)

i get some rewards, track progress and some rank, so at least its not 0 gains. it would suck if every time i wanted to pvp i had to decide, do i want to get rewards tonight or pvp. i don’t have hours and hours to play, so that would be annoying to have to choose one or the other

the rewards are already capped after so many games, so i don’t see why they need to be totally removed

there usu aren’t more than 20 hotjoin servers full when i play, so do u rly think those 200 people, r really going to fix the queue problems assuming every1 moved to un/ranked? does my having a decent time playing pvp affect u?

anet is kinda hoping every1 moves into big guilds and gives up on small ones, thats why this stuff is so hard

u think, hey lets all play the way we want since my guild’s hall size/progress really doesn’t affect yours, but thats where u are wrong.

if a small guild can have as much fun as a large 1 w/o the grind/time spent, whats the pt of ‘working’ so hard on a large guild?

see dats why it has to be so hard for small guilds, to ensure the people in large guilds feel better

i find hotjoin much moar fun than un/ranked.

-more soloq’rs
-no queue (read u can play right now, not 5+min from now)
-if match is too much a landslide, just leave and find a better server, nothing holding u there to waste your time. in otherwords, i get to play matches on my terms, not some terrible mmr where u have no idea if ur party is going to be dumb

in un/ranked if u get a terrible match up, or 3+ in a row, u are sol an just have to waste your time w/ a losing matchup.

in hotjoin, its up to you, an u can find a good fight eventually. it ain’t perfect, but my time is better spent playing the game on my terms rather than clicking around hoping ‘this matchup will be good, rite?’

i jus want to play. i want to pvp. i want to do it now. and i don’t want to be in a terrible matchup for ~10+ mins. thats not fun. thats not rewarding. thats not how i want to spend my time.

thats why gw1 RA was so nice. no mmr, so fast matchups, tmd = very short matches. if your team was that terrible it was over in <2 mins. since no mmr, no streaks trying to keep u at 50% winrate.

u just got to pvp and have fun. what happened to that part?

so w/ ur idea:

This WILL remove me, and likely many others, from spvp altogether because i jus don’t have the time to deal w/ long queue + terrible matchups. u think it will move every1 to un/ranked? people will just stop playing and do something fun. theres already a hard cap on teh hotjoin rewards, so… u sort of already have what u want there.

lose, lose, lose, the way i see it

Hi, I’m GW1 player, and I did want, with all my heart to see return on Random-Arena.

For those who don’t know what that is I’ll explain:

  • It’s a solo queue with death match style of 5v5
  • you get paired with 4 random people
  • if all players on one side are dead, that team is defeated and the team that won, will go in next round.
  • There is no re-spawn once you are dead.
  • There is no reviving once you are fully dead.
  • If you win, your team will continue in the next round, Maximum rounds is 25, if you lose, your team is kicked into the lobby.
  • Higher you climb higher reward you get.
  • If player doesn’t want to continue, you can go out on the end of the round, and that player is replaced with random person.
  • You can change your build in Ready position before round starts.
  • No time frame[all fights were cca 2-10 min long].
  • Example

This was a game mode of true skill, honor, pride, helping each other like a brother or sister to push harder to the top, a joy and meaning of PvP, where many times you felt like a hero for defeating enemy team as last man standing.

We have none of this in Conquest, a wanna-be-eSports-like game mode, enforced way of playing that MOBA brought to us.

Where are death match maps? I’ve expected at least two of them with better design then Courtyard, less clustered.

But all we got was Stronghold and removal of Courtyard, shame to remove the best PvP mode from original Guild Wars.

RA was the best.

i think u forgot to mention that, since it was random arena, there was no, mmr, so no clicking around w/ ur click waiting for 3-5min queues. 30sec queue and fight.

and since the fights were tdm, they were usu very short, so even if the team was awful, u didn’t have to torture yurself for 10+ mins only to lose. when the team was terrible, they were dead and u could re-queue in <2 or 3 mins

-Druids, why is the only healing class in the game? Poor decision, nerf healing or nerf damage

-Burnguard: Burst at RANGE, insane burst in melee, what were you guys thinking?

-Tanky Revenant builds, too tanky, way tankier than any other tank, also healing from being dealt damage? gg

-Dragonhunter, nerf damage and traps

Please add builds that are crazily OP that are run SOLO in unranked.

not to be dat guy, cause dat guy ^^^ already came in and sayd it, but very demeaning. what he meant is

Druids – tanks a tanks, if u can’t 1v1 it, leave until u got support to kill, 2 other nodes on the map

Burnguard – wait for 4+ burn stacks, then cleanse it, they squish fast so after that cleans u can usu burst them dead before they apply more burns on u

Tanky Revenant builds – that heal is super annoying but… u just need to not attack them during it, i havent played it so maybe its too short a cd, i dunno but if u don’t attack they don’t heal so much

Dragonhunter – wait until u see some traps drop, stability and dodge away, wait for all traps to finish, then go in for the kill

He hit you with three traps + his own LB DPS. If, for any reason, you managed to get out of the trap burst or have an ally there, he would’ve melted just as quickly as you did. DPS guardian builds (burn or power) always frontloaded their entire burst always. I’ll agree that burn/medi power isn’t the same as the traps that you can’t see, but the mindset is similar. I’d honestly consider traps to be UP if using 3 didn’t create a dangerous situation for the trapped guy.

Also, I notice you weren’t running elixir S. That gyro skill makes very little sense in comparison to elixir S imo.

Uhh no watch the video again and see it was only the traps that killed him, only damage the DH did himself was hit him with the unblockable F1 chain which killed his low health through Gear Shield. Also GS 5 is amazing, it forces them to use a dodge or be pulled, combined with F1 pull they just lost both dodges.

think u need to watch again, the dh there clearly bends down to charge up tru shot, if it crit that could’ve knocked out most of that health

i remembr the daily system before this mess. where it was a giant list of 20 activities (fairly broad ones) or so and u just played the game… and usu still got the daily.

naow its like “do it x way, or dont’ get ur daily”

course, anet n gw2 have been doing a lot to move it the game to this form… legendary armors (raids) guilds (be big or don’t bother) grind them masteries…

People don’t know what they want. Most the time they are fickle and wont even decide, then get mad at whatever is given to them.

But wait, isn’t it happening because the term “people” contains a lot of individuals, where each of them has different priorities, needs, desires?
I mean, that explains a ton, right?

A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.
