the influx of rage is only because people are actually posting again. before the patch, we barely had a handful of new threads a day, now i suppose some people are playing/interested again so they are posting. a win to me
it will probably be w/ the normal patch cycle. I think its like 10 or 11 est. i don’t think its a race either tho, but play non stop for the next 3 months, i’m sure it’ll be worth it
i came hoping to see “there are no lions in this game, much black lions”
i am disappointed
In truth, it boils down to people who duel wanting an audience. That is the truth, that’s why ever option we have all ready is not good enough for them, that means in truth, its about ego more than being able to do it.
Maybe for a few. Not for most. It’s about convenience, the same force that drives 99% of the feature requests we see on these boards.
How are there not convenient means to duel? There are loads of empty hot join maps, you can just drop into and duel away. If you have access to a guild hall with an arena go there and duel, you have the OS arena that I’ve seen a few people use for duelling. I only know about the place by accident as I wanted to know where the tunnel went. I really don’t see how these options are not convenient. Please tell me what is wrong with them?
he might have a pt tho. if he was waiting on dragon stand meta event, or even AB event to start, and he leaves for the guild hall or the hotjoins, then he will lose his place in that meta map. maybe he was thinking if he and/or his friend could just join the map, and while waiting for the meta to get started, hop away from everyone and just duel it out for 5 or 10 mins, then go tothe meta when it starts.
i mean, he can’t currently do that i don’t think, right?
once played for fun, now i’m pretty bored w/ the whole thing. if i play, tis for daily and/or achieves
you can see clearly the open mindedness and bond this community has. we do have the best community of any mmo in the history of online games. you cannot name a single instance of trolling that has ever occurred in gw2. this reason for that? we do not duel. can’t you see how obvious it is? if we were to have dueling, we would instantly create trolls that simple do not play gw2 right now. is that wut you really want?
ah yeah i member! you member? i member playing swtor before gw2 too! do u member light sabers?
edit: i member manifesto too!
i would guess something about lag, player was really right about where the ward circle was drawn
something something, you are alone, something something, this is gw2 not gw1, something something, can’t compare apples and orangutans, something something, git gud, something something, our way or the highway
tl;dr ANet changed its mind about what the game needed. GW2 Raids aren’t done the same as in other games, so there’s no contradiction (implied or direct) between what I’ve said and the game.
Seeing the devs constantly changing their minds, they might as well open raids for the other 90 – 95% of players.
In general: GW2 has been different in the beginning, but soon Anet decided to appeal to players of other games (adding gear related progression, raids). Loyal GW2 players however left the game. Their focus on raids for an exclusive, small minority of players made others leave the game.
It’s not only that HoT didn’t provide a single dungeon or fractal but raids instead. They also decided to lock legendary armor and even mastery tracks and xp gain behind raids. GW2, known as the most casual MMORPG ever, refuses to open up this huge amount of content for the majority of players.
Clearly ANet has evolved their thinking about what works best for the long-term success of the company and the long-term enjoyment of the community
Makes me wonder about the financial reports of the last two quarters and hundreds of pages of dissatisfied players related to raids.
u aren’t wrong
I think Courtyard would be a huge mistake. After all, a major reason population is low is massive stomps. Courtyard promotes just that.
No, please… It’s dead, let it lie.
sometimes you seem like you think things thru, sometimes you jump to conclusions like a wild person. this is the latter
major reason pvp pop is low is partially unbalanced fights and blow outs, another huge part is boredom. i’m bored crazy when i try to pvp these days. after 2 or 3 matches i think, this isn’t fun, i could be playing X instead, i just spent at least 30-45 mins, and i don’t feel like it was worth it
a part of why the imbalance and blow outs turns people away from gw2 pvp is the length of the fights too. after 1 encounter, and looking at the map and seeing how my team is responding, i can 9/10 times tell if its a loss. but even if its a loss i have to stay in this match for at least 5-10 minutes more, it makes you hate yourself and the game.
if some of these suggestions are actually put together, where its best 2 of 3 rounds, or just 1 round no respawn. at least the match is over < 5 mins. at least we can get another round going. i just wanted to pvp. can’t we just fight, win, fight, lose, fight, fight fight.
they jus don’t want u to be bored standing around the hotm. so they created a mini game, where u click to open bags and sell on the tp before the next queue pops
I don’t think people are asking for TDM/CTF/Stronghold to replace ranked games, just the options to play those modes on their own would be refreshing enough.
At the end of the day, if they add separate ques then it doesn’t effect anyone except the people who want to play TDM. People like OP who aren’t interested for what ever reason aren’t forced into playing nor should have any concern.
agreed w/ this cat. anet has focused 95% of the spvp attention on 5v5 conquest and the staleness of it + the decr population should be obv we need to do something diff. guild wars to me was always about a play your way, enjoy the game your way sort of mentality. that is, lots of options to play the game. gw2 tried a more forced approach of ‘play it this way, this mode’, and i don’t think it was a success
Very short match – enemy team die end of match. No respawn. Winners stays on map. And are revived. Next match starts. There is only solo. Like Random Arenas in gw1. Short map so adjust reward. Next to game mode types set: conquest/stronghold/deathmatch or annihilation.
In hotm there is ruins of obrin or something like that. Its fit to be number 2 map for that mode.
Major thing of it both maps doesn’t need strutural changes. So implementing can be fast.
Edit" Annihilation. Deathmatch can be in custom maps.
i’m w/ this person. no respawn. make it like gw1 RA. short matches, in and out
Easy…guy. No need to jump on me for misreading…what a shining example of the community.
To get back on track, it wouldn’t surprise me if Anet started doing something like this. They’ve overhauled the black lion chests many times in the past. Maybe they’re finally hearing the community’s cries for obtaining outfits that have been “phased out”. For example, bringing back the Winter Solstice armor during the upcoming Wintersday, and giving players a chance to pull it out of the chest.
he’s not your guy, friend.
they can learn nothing. u do not know that 3 control pt + secondary objectives is the epitome of pvp? we already hav the best pvp an mmo can get. if this were not tru, then after 4 years i think we’d have something else to do in pvp than conquest
u had me until quaggan. just a giant bag of salt falling from the sky will do
I’m not sure what all the complaints are about…
Have there been any?
i think these are the complaints
i wouldn’t say it’s a happy birthday, but it has been 1 year
So for the small minority that raid, they get to aim for legendary armor that animates, causing even more lag in large scale fights in wvw. At least we’ll know who to blame for the next lag spikes…raid guilds that visit wvw.
Shame it’s not available to the mode where it would be most useful: wvw, where changing stats and builds is useful.
but u need to axe yourself, where would gw2 be now w/o adding raids? if anything you should be thankful the devs added raids to this game, it was basically on life support until raids came in and pumped this game to where it ought to be
yep would be cool if you could get a set that was animated and not tied to raids. raiders get this animated set, a diff legendary set for other content, that way raiders still feel special w/ the set that looks like this, rest of us can get our own legendary set for playing our modes
And now they are going to lose players
ah NOW they are going to lose players. up until now gw2 spvp has done a remarkable job compared to wvw and pve. truly, while we have seen a staggered decline in concurrent player population throughout wvw and pve, we have only seen, on average, a net positive spvp player growth. this is clear, not only through the ever reduced queue times, increased effectiveness of the mmr system and matchmaking as a whole (with closer and closer match scores), but also through the introduction of new spvp game types and modes of play.
clearly, this poll was rigged from the outset.
So match making has its problems so instead of trying to fix it with proper class specific MMR and leaderboards and no class switching or stacking etc you want to throw it out completely? I see. ok.
i dunno. i look at 4 years of anet playing with mmr and leaderboards and etc and i still see every1 angry with it. so i axe if they’ve considered random queues as an option. i’m not saying remove mmr completely from ranked, i’m just axing if anet’s considered having a random queue too
I don’t think random has any merit whatsoever. Would you consider playing soccer or baseball or whatever if the organisers said we are taking random players from professional level all the way down to people playing their first ever game and mixing them up and then saying “go play”?
The professional level players will run rings around the weaker players and still not enjoy the game because who really enjoys stomping bads?
The first time players will get completely demoralized anytime they have a 1v1 against a top level player.
In summary no one will enjoy the game.
Sorry but full randoms of any MMR is the worst idea ive read today.
1 of the complaints i read often is, ‘matchmaking in gw2 is terrible.’ ‘look at this match, look at this one.’ “i’m a pro, look at how terrible my mates were, we played against esl champs but it paired me with scrubs” “why am i losing 100-500”
if u removed any match making, and it was totally random, then u wouldn’t have to cry about how the mmr screwed u.
if u don’t like it, thats fine, but my time playing random arena in gw1 was more fun than any of the time i’ve spent in gw2 pvp
have you all ever considered a random queue? one that complete ignores mmr and other matchmaking algos. something that simply grabs 5 randos and 5 other randos?
hotjoin is hop in and out, so thats not the same. and un/ranked both consider mmr i think, so that also is attempting to funnel goods and bads into certain positions for making teams.
just another option to consider
I voted YES for solo/duo for reasons.
1. im mainly soloQ
2. creating premade is very enjoyable but like helseth said it ruins the fun of others. i been in both ends, created a premade and steamroll everyone and also fought a premade and no matter how hard i carry we just not organized enough to win. typing instruction while fending of players is really hard.
- i still think ANET could have done something else, keep teamQ but they only fought similar size premade, and they should never complain about Q times being long. NO solo VS a premade of 3+ players ever.
Could we at least get some kind of data on how often this suppossed scourge happens. If it happens 1 out 15 matches does it make sense to get rid of being able to group with 2 or more friends because of that. I’m not convinced at all this is actually a real problem based on my personal experience. I almost never get matches against 3 or more players grouped as a solo player. Thats the problem with this whole thing A-net has said most people queue as solo or duo already so we are implementing a fix to something that is uncommon. It makes no sense to me. Most of the people unhappy about how they do in pvp are still going to be unhappy when this gets put in mark my words. The main problems are class stacking and awful matchmaking that goes far beyond facing a premade once in awhile as a solo.
no one is preventing u from playing w/ your friends, just go unranked
The less we know the less we have to complain about?
Or at least our complaints will be easier to dismiss since we lack hard facts.
this is the reason 100%.
out best bet is soloq for ranked, and teams can continue to compete in unranked. works fo mi
……..
You live in a world where trolling/griefing is glorified and encouraged. Rewarded with popularity and on occasion financial gain.
this is not believable. gw2 is a cooperative pve game w/ the best community of any mmo. it has kept all of the things that make for negative and toxic community out of pve, so these toxic players don’t even play gw2.
u prob just didn’t understand how the were trying to enjoy the game
think they forgot to remove the pinned capricorn map maybe
the problem is anet focusing on the wrong things.
they need to focus on making pvp fun, when something is fun, people will continue to do it and even tell their friends to try it, someone said it like this
1 make it fun
2 more players pvp since its… fun
3 better population means better Q times
4 better Q (and more people) means more people will try to organize as teams
5 more teams means more competition in the top tourneys
6 more competition + more people can increase the drive for people to actually watch the matches
7 more people watching matches means we can start to think of esports again
they thought they have a good game, so they can skip 1-6 and just start at 7, but it doesn’t work that way. i think the pvp in this game after 4 years shows that
Come on ? no perfectly horrible ratio to show off ?
I wonder where those horrible forum stories come from….
i think i lost the 1 played so… 100% loss ratio. its real
well cap achieves are past, we should close this thread. i think we can all agree enough time was lost here
1 match, i accidentally queued thinking capricorn achieves (play in rated match) was going to be there.
once i realized it wasn’t, i did not q again (gat my wings last season, why torture myself i say)
u mean theres inaccurate stuff on their site?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/guardian/
does your guard not blast lightning?
this just in:
someone in pvp does not like elite specs, league implementation, or esports focus.

There is a bug with this map; that would not let anyone leave. Even logging out and back in drags everyone in it back to the map.
I have yelled this in map chat every match I’ve played on Coliseum :P
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
truly, it is only appropriate. anet should add a command for /entertained , where the pc opens his/her arms out and looks around while talking
you should just have some type of beta flags, like the stronghold and conquest ones, so players can queue ONLY for the beta map they want to play

Ring of tire? O_o
Tires do not seem like a good way to bludgeon things to death.
in soviet russia, ring of tire burns u
I also thought nice, but what builds to put in? But hey, two useful per class might be doable …
now we just need to HAVE 2 builds per class, boom!
thx for that. getting ahead of the qq. altho it could mean they are re-testing it internally!!! let the hate flow thru u, qq
i thought, no way… whhhhat
and then whammy!
i don’t lik the commune idea. the bell stayin on a timer is also good, lets u be able to predict and strat around it.
onlly thing i would change is some kind of cool down on it after a ring so a team wipe doesn’t result in double bell caps back to back. should be at least enough cool down for wiped team to regroup and contest it again
Now that he is making money off A-net its all about not killing the goose that lays the golden egg and I don’t really blame him. He is just a troll that is good at GW2 no need to make him bigger or more important then he is.
but… esports?
i think the system punishes u for playing pvp at this point
