Put it this way… An engineer is FAR better in PvE than a ranger. Ranger without a doubt is the worst class of the 8 when it comes to running Dungeons, especially Fractals

No Arcane 20(30) with D/D… Nuff’ said
No but seriously, no class should be running ALL signets. It’s terribly inefficient at higher levels and very selfish.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
You really need to rethink your armor choices, your traits and your weapons. Essentially L2P, and stop running 3-4 signets.
Read before responding please. I wasn’t the thief. I was the one having to bring them back to life. It is a very common theme.

So your logic is; Some thieves are doing in a bad, a class I DON’T PLAY, so I’m going to come over and say they need buffs… INSTEAD of people needing to get better?

- Offhand Axe is terrible. Use OH Mace for dps, shield for tanking.
- Clerics scales badly, you’d be better off running PVT and taking more of the attention off your team than trying to heal that extra 100
- Dungeon are about sustained DPS, Burst skills in warriors… are well you know; BURST
If you want DPS with support and tankyness, I strongly suggest;

You’re in luck, an offensive Ele IS a support Ele
Dagg/Dagg = Dmg (close range) with a bit of support
Staff = Support with some damage (long range)
Scep/Dagg = Mix of both
Run x/x/x/20(or30)/30 and gear with toughness with a hint of vitality pieces. You’ll be set

Thieves are completely horrible at Fractals of the Mists levels 10 or higher. I just got out of another group that involved needing to constantly revive the thief. It is a complete waste of a team member slot. Personally, I think it is better to just kick the thief before we start.
Now I know some of you are probably good in FotM, but 95% of thieves are not. This class needs some serious help so that there are more than 5% of thieves that are somewhat decent at it.

I have a GS build which allows me to run 89% crit chance and have 100% uptime on fury. So according to you, this build would be at least on par or better than MH Axe? And you would suggest axe for more mobile combat and or situations that require say an off hand shield or war-horn?
GS is a burst weapon… Dungeons are about sustained damaged. So yes, Axe/Mace would be better than your build.
Oh and 20 in tactics is also 100% fury/might/swiftness uptime… Just sayin’

-Zerker Gear w/ a mix of Knights
-Long or Short, your preference
-Healing Spring/QZ/LR/Muddy Terrain (or whatever)/EntangleOr… Make a warrior/guardian
What do you mean by mix or zerker and knights? whats the balance? some people say that we should be sitting at around 50% crit and that everything else above is a waste. So should I aim for some crit cap with zerker and then go knights or? How much toughnes do you usually have for dungeons in order to survive more than 2 shots?
I use full Zerker trinkets with Zerker armor with Emerald Orbs. Emerald Orbs mainly for more precision and some extra toughness

The topic is how to mitigate damage with a GS. I’m saying you can mitigate damage better/more consistently with a different weapon.
Stop acting like a dumb kitten
I know what you are saying, but I don’t know why you persist in doing it in this topic. No one here is saying the greatsword is better then the sword.
“Disclaimer 1
This thread is not meant to convince you that GS is a worthy secondary weapon.”I was simply pointing out how the greatsword compares to the swords evades, which you quite litterally asked about; “Why use the GS when I can use the Sword for its damage and 3 evasive moves?”. But then you decided to try and be a smart kitten and try to tell me something I already knew, while completely undermining the topics subject. Why did you even ask the question in the first place?
Then why even give lack-luster advice when you know better ones?

Sword doesn’t have a block. Evades aren’t blocks and shouldn’t be treated as such. The greatsword is therefore better at blocking than a sword that doesn’t have access to one.
Blocking = Damage mitigation
Dodging = Damage mitigation
The sword has 2 dodges on a lower cool. The sword is therefore better at damage mitigation than a greatsword that doesn’t have as much access.

I would also like to see more rangers share their perspectives on what a descent/good dungeon build should be.
Do condition builds work there?
Is going full GC too hard in higher fractals?
@jay if you run a brown bear shouldn’t you also have protect me?
Muddy Terrain changes a lot depending on the situation. Protect me is more important if there’s too much to dodge at times, like for instance Path 3 Subject Alpha.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
You don’t have to go anywhere in a dodge to dodge it… You can stand in a corner and dodge in the corner and still miss it. This also applies to the swords 3 moves. While it has a 3 second duration; it has 20 second cooldown for that ONE skill, compared to the swords 8 second and 15 second cooldowns.
Quickness with the greatsword’s autoattack… Greatsword’s have kitten damage and using them in auto-attack is a huge drop in DPS compared to the Sword once again. The dps output for the evasiveness is not worth it, especially if you KNOW what attacks to look out for. Also the sword has better travel skills than the greatsword… Turn around and cast 2; then turn around and cast 2 again. ALSO on a lower cool-down than swoop.
Stop being lazy.
This isn’t a topic about which Ranger weapon is the best. I think you need to read the title again.

Ranger’s aren’t bad, They’re just not easy to master.
GL mastering stuff with joke skills rangers have. Play 1k hours on ranger alone and go 1v1 any class (including engi and nec) against a person who knows sup and see what happens… before someone bring the “bu bu but this game is not about 1v1” YES there is tones of one on ones going on in spvp and ranger suck at that to the point its broken.
Ehh, I have multiple videos of me 1v1ing, I actually think Ranger 1v1ing is easier then Thief 1v1ing..
As for SPvP, You have one of the more powerful builds available in SPvP which is traps, which will easy people alive if fighting on points.
Yes, ranger has traps and SB auto attack.
Ehh, Axe/Torch + Sword/Dagger > SB auto attack
rofl, so my 4 weapons are better then 1? hmmm imagine that…and nah those 4 really arent better then SB auto attack when your running a trapper =D, they are only good if running that 1 trick pony bunker build.
The Whole idea of a trapper is to have people fight on your Traps…If you’re trying to stay ranged with a Shortbow, people aren’t going to be fighting on your traps, They’ll either be taking the point from you, or Chasing you around not fighting on your traps.
Shortbow has its uses, Trap Build though I don’t think is one of them.
Trap Build? You mean the 1 viable build Ranger’s have in SPvP?

Why use the GS when I can use the Sword for its damage and 3 evasive moves?
The greatsword block allows you to move around freely, the swords evasion forces you to move in one direction, meaning that you need a bigger area in order to use them. The greatswords block also has a duration time of 3 seconds, thereby making it easier to use.
It’s also worth knowing that, next to the greatswords block, you can also use quickness with the greatswords auto attack, and get almost constant evasion for the quickness duration. And that Swoop is not only an excellent travel skill, but also great for when you need to quickly get out of harms way.
You don’t have to go anywhere in a dodge to dodge it… You can stand in a corner and dodge in the corner and still miss it. This also applies to the swords 3 moves. 80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
I’m starting to wonder if this is doable with a different party set. I assume your 2 mesmers casted double time warp to greatly boost DPS output? Ran this today with a party of 2 Warriors, 1 Guardian, 1 Ele and 1 Ranger and we did that strategy, but it wasn’t enough to kill her before she disappeared again (I think we got her down to 30% HP)
If you all specced into glass cannon it’s more than possible. Also actually learning your highest DPS weapons/sets/utilities/etc. While I agree the AI. for the sparks are wonky, this does not need a nerf. GW2 need more bosses like this; something that requires team co-ordination and some type of knowledge of your class.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro

This is a common reply for people trying to play an actual kittenty class. The ranger is so faceroll easy to play; to say people don’t know how to play it properly is to insult them and to be overall ignorant. The class is far from complete with HUGE glaring issues while with a very questionable profession mechanic.
As for ranger being the worst class? In terms of Dungeons/ SPvP/ WvW; yes it is. You don’t hear anyone complaining about the ranger class on the forums, there’s a reason for that.

Actually, the Thief is a great dungeon runner. While they don’t have the greatest support; they are a “fail safe” class. When people make those crucial mistakes, having a thief will go a long way.

Warrior can stack infinite Might/Fury without any boon duration….
With ONLY 20 in tactics (20%)… they can get infinite Might/Fury/Swiftness. You runes are useless… especially on a warriorI have 30 in tactics so can assure you that you are wrong. Im also willing to bet that you have forgotten that % boon duration works for all boons given to you, and that the Empowered trait gives 1.5% damage per unique boon on me. Making external boons such as protection, vigor, regen etc last as long as possible not only benefits me by gaining the boon, but also by gaining damage.
Anyway that is all off topic on a ranger thread. Just looking for some tips on condition damage runes for dungeons.
Wrong? FGJ + Signet of Fury + 20 in Tactics + Warhorn trait = Infinite Might/Fury/Swiftness.
Boon duration only works to the boons you GIVE OUT, not what you GET. Your ally’s boon duration determines how long your EXTERNAL boons are. Sit down and do some research. Having that excess boon duration on a warrior is useless
