Not to play the elitist class card, but Engineers and Necromancers have less overall damage output than a Ranger with a brain (assuming all build for direct damage spec/gear).
My Ranger does more damage than my Mesmer even, but the lack of Time Warp puts me in a position as to which I bring to any particular run.
Warriors and Guardians being top tier is dead on though.
Rangers are NOT great dungeoneers. They’re considered the worst of the 8 classes.
Why are they the worst? I’ll tell you.- Very little support
- Pets are 10 chances to 1, dead in boss fights and certain mob encounters (Even with 30 BM and pet swapping)
- Since their pet is dead (Or mostly on standby which it should be in dungeons), Their damage is kitten poor
- Little diversity (IN Dungeons)It’s insulting you’d say a Necro OR an Engineer does less damage than Ranger. You really do need to research your classes. Also while DPS IS important; that’s not the only thing that constitutes a successful dungeon run
You’re only correct on the lack of party support for a ranger. The rest of your view is entirely off. Damage and being able to play /your/ profession effectively are the only points in determining a successful run of anything. Even in fractals, unless your prof has projectile reflection or block skills, everyone is on the same playing field. The most you can do to support your team is making the encounter end as soon as possible.
Also, only bad rangers have low damage. Same as every other profession.
Same playing field, lol. Yep, lack of good multi-target dps and terrible support skills is definitely an equal playing field…
Don’t forget your class mechanic is near useless in dungeons

i’m by no means a theory crafter or number cruncher but from what I can tell d/d s/d and staff are designed perfectly to match a playstyle.
staff does less burst but greater range and therefore less survivability spells and more push backs.
d/d high burst more survivability spells and greater mobility.
s/d is the middle ground middle range, less mobility that d/d but more sustained damage (less burst).
its really up to your play style, you want to blow people up then go d/d but learn to get out of trouble quickly. If you want to kite them with less burst go staff. its all about sacrificing one for the other.
This is entirely accurate.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Is this for WvW or sPvP?
WvW
While I agree with this to an extent; You won’t beat a D/D bunker ele who KNOWS what they’re doing. The spec is just so efficient at virtually everything
sPvP
Agreed completely. D/D ele’s in PvP are fine where they are. They might take a bit more hassle than other classes; but they’re in a good spot
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Id disagree, certainly in the case of my warrior. I run 2xWater, 2xMonk and 2xPirate for a total of 30% boon duration, 20% might duration, 50 healing and 10% MF. That gives me constant fury, swiftness and approx 10 stacks of might. I also run with a strength sigil on my rifle for 30% chance to gain might on crit, and during the day use those pepper poppers for 40% chance on crit to gain might. All in all around 14 stacks of constant might and that is just my boons. If two other players in the party give me might I have to drop the pirate rune pieces! I then have the Empowered trait, giving me ~1.5% extra damage per different boon on me.
I know a warrior isnt a ranger but im just using it as an example of making use of boon duration. It is certainly a lot better than orbs for my warrior. In the case of my ranger boon duration isnt whats needed but I certainly wouldnt like to run with a full orb set.
Warrior can stack infinite Might/Fury without any boon duration….
With ONLY 20 in tactics (20%)… they can get infinite Might/Fury/Swiftness. You runes are useless… especially on a warrior

I have no idea what you’re asking, but…
1. Hounds of Balth are god awful…
2. No characters move faster than one another, unless they have a signet/swiftness
3. You better armor/weapons
4. Learn you class first and foremost… learn your traits/skill/utilities everything about the class before rerolling
5. Don’t enter a dungeon blind sighted.. look up a guide or read up on it; it will help you tremendously
6. Open world PvE is far easier and more faceroll than dungeons; that being said if you don’t know how to play Warrior/Guardian properly you’ll still be as useless as your ranger
7. Most higher level players use their keyboard. Learning your hotkeys are very important while using your mouse to get faster sights on everything. LEARN YOUR HOTKEYS, IT’S ONLY 1-0
8. Be more specific when you ask stuff
That’s all for now

Here is the strategy:
Kick party members in the following professions:
-Rangers
-Thieves
-Elementalists
-Mesmers
-Necromancers
-EngineersThen recruit only these professions:
-Guardian
-Warriors
Mmmm ignorance is bliss… How does it feel to think that way?

Aegis is by far one of the best boons in the game. It needs no adjustment it’s fine where it is.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Just to point out I’m not an engineer expert as of yet; but your build makes little sense.First and foremost if you want to be tanky, why aren’t you running pistol/shield; you’re even traited in inventions to do so. While that being said; turrents are awful and grenade kit is not worth it if you don’t have the grenadier trait.
I recommend:
- Switching out turrent for elixir gun for super elixir (Even though it was nerfed, the condition remover and the little healing it has can really add up).
- Using elixir S instead of grenades; also getting rid of the Acidic Coating trait
- Use adrenal implant instead of throw wrench
My 2 cents

80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Stats yes but specific buffs/effects no. Any boon duration % on runes with a guardian in the party and youre far exceeding the sats from orbs. The only way id consider using an orb is if I didnt want the #6 ability on the rune.
There are very few runes that have a worthwhile #6… And even with boon duration + guardian your stats are still worth more than runes.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Okay thanks Guys! So far it seems that you don’t use every spell. I hope some other skills will be more usefull than in the future
Which utilities do you run in dungeons also? Sometimes changing your utilities a bit might reduce boredom. Hence signets…
I personally run:
Smoke Screen
Shadow Refuge
Roll for initiative
Dagger Storm
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro

Nope, nothing worthwhile keeping at the lower levels
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
ONLY challenge that’s needed to be overcome for me as far as dungeons go
Then you really need to stop playing only AC and CoF
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Well for starters S/P is best for meleeing in dungeons. Pistol whip provides a stun to get rid of some of those defiant stacks + Great damage. Also using the utility of the pistols #4 for interrupts (and getting rid of those defiant stacks) and #5 for blinds and much more survivability for your melee partners. Don’t forget Infiltrator strike when you need to get out.
Shortbow is a pretty much a required when you’re running dungeons with a thief. While yes cluster bomb is really great for those blast finishers and spamming it is pretty kitten good, Disabling shot is very efficient when you or your partners need to kite those type of bosses providing a near 100% up-time of cripple… + it’s an evade so you save yourself a roll.
Edit: I’ll add more later
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro

Open-world it doesn’t matter what you do…
But if you’re talking dungeons then yes you’re playing it wrong
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Staying in one attunement for an entire fight is limiting yourself to a quarter of your skills.
When I come across Staff “Fire Mages” in dungeons, I either politely ask them to help their team by providing DoT, CC’s, and heals or to please leave the group.
This… This right here
It seems a lot of elementalist never seem to dish out their vast amount of support and are content with sitting on fire with glass cannon. Then they complain and whine that they’re always getting one shot.
Also it seems a lot of eles don’t know the absolute power of putting a few traits in Water/Arcane.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro

Rangers are an average in PvP
They’re below average in WvW roaming, but good at defending walls and such
Probably one of the best class in open-world PvE 1-75ish
By far the WORST dungeon class PvE
Overall they’re OKAY nothing spectacular.
80Rng – 80Wa – 80Thief – 80Grd – 80Ele – 80Engi – 80Necro
Warriors really need to realize offhand Axe is really bad. Axe/Mace for more DPS, Axe/Shield for DPS with a touch of tanking, or Mace/Shield for tanking.
That being said, those 3 combinations are better than GS

The problem lies in most Ele’s thinking they’re fire mages and never swap attunements. I personally love a good Ele, but there aren’t many out there that pug.
This x100…
Most Ele pugs have no clue how to switch attunements and the majority of them are just glass with barely any damage

let’s be fair to anet.. some of these are way too OP..
otherwise, who knows they will say the things we’re demanding don’t make sense and make no changes at all..Like I say, buffing ranger is a very touchy subject as any little change could possibly make them OP. We were once OP and now we are slightly underpowered, and to be honest I’d rather take slightly underpowered.
When were we OP, beta weekend 1? really when no one knew how to build or speck other classes. Thats funny have u played thief they have gotten nerfed every patch since launch and yet i dont tpvp without one……
He does make a valid point. Calling a class OP in the very first weekend… 2-3 days of playing is a bit absurd. Anet needs to really sit down and think about what they do beforehand more often.
