Story Yournal Achievement Points

I think it was intentional.

Many people find jumping puzzles very difficult to do for various reasons, e.g. Disabilities, lag, etc. It’s likely ANet added the achievement for those who want a challenge but kept the points low so as not to be unfair to those who can’t do jumping puzzles.

Dashed Advantage’s secret room is the top left of the final area (from where you drop down). You can get to it at the beginning by stacking jump crystals, but you won’t actually be able to go through to the room until the dash crystals start to drop.

They begin to drop when the boss is at 50% health. Grab a bunch of them, and a bunch of jump crystals, and you should have plenty of time to get up there.

Once you dash through the rock-face at the top left hidden area, you’ll come into a room with Inquest and one golem. That golem is holding the basket you need and is slowly patrolling towards a shield. You need to kill him before he reaches it. Once you kill him, kill all the inquest you can and the achievement will pop.

It’s a jumping puzzle that involves no jump crystals.

It’d be difficult to fully explain it to you as it’s not an easy JP, but to get you started: To the left of the hay pile, there’s a collapsed wreckage for you to jump up. That’s the starting point.

Another +1 from me.

I love quivers and it’s something I’ve wanted since GW1. When they introduced Rox’s quiver I was really happy, but ended up making my ranger a Sylvari and it just looks off. It’s going to my warrior now, so it’s not wasted, but I’d love a racially appropriate quiver.

In an ideal world, you would look through someone’s post history and see a mix of positive and negative feedback, which are both constructive. No game is perfect, but then I suppose in an ideal world the game would be.

My point is negative constructive feedback has its place just as much as positive feedback. People gave feedback about the rewards for boss blitz being underwhelming and they were improved. People gave feedback about the dredge fractal and it was re-balanced. There was a lot of positive feedback about SAB world 1, but there was a lot of constructive negative feedback about world 2, which we’ll have to wait for world 3 to see how that’s been implemented. If that feedback didn’t exist, ANet wouldn’t know what players like and don’t like.

Now I’m assuming the OP is referring to the entirely negative non-constructive feedback. The ones that act like ANet MUST act on THEIR feedback or they’re terrible devs who want to steal their money and summon the rapture. The ones that act like any opposition to their opinion are from people who have been brainwashed or are ‘fanboys’. Well, these people exist everywhere – in restaurants, in cinemas, and online. It’s not GW2 centric or even video game centric – it’s all around. And of course, the opposite is true – there are people who refuse to admit something they enjoy can do anything wrong. Both types of people aren’t helping.

Thankfully, most businesses know not to listen to those who let their emotions (be that a lot of anger and rage or a lot of pride and defense) fuel them. Give ANet constructive feedback, both positive and negative. Don’t feel like you have to stand in the only negative or only positive feedback camp, ‘cause I’m sure whatever side you sit on, if you really think about it, there’s always going to be something you like that they’ve done and something you dislike! I’m guilty of this, too, but I try to be as objective as I can.

You can’t. This isn’t a function ANet provide. All your characters are bound to one home server, but you can guest to others in your own region, but this doesn’t matter much for PvE anymore.

There’s no way for those in NA servers and those in EU servers to play with each other. They’re separated completely.

Just in an attempt to help, you can actually skip some of the events if just doing the story finale is your thing. There is a teleporter thingy that allows it, though… I am unsure if it has a prerequisite or if you just have to find it. (As I’d done some stuff first)

You have to have at least the exotic version of the spinal blades backpiece equipped.

This isn’t entirely true.

You can get in there with the Spinal Blade Pack (the blue one) ’cause I did. The exotic one is just for the achievement by the looks of things.

All three of the orders have been helping out in LA get citizens out and defending areas.

But as you said, the B-Iconics have been the ones tackling Scarlet the most the past year (other than ourselves), so it makes the most sense that they’re part of promotional images. Plus, for an image like that, having actual recognizable characters’ hands there is more interesting than having ‘generic Priory member one’’s hands there. You recognize those hands instantly.

Again – thanks for (some of) the answers, Angel!

I think what people mean, underdark is for it to be at least mentioned in-game in some way shape or form. To be fair to ANet they did have I think one NPC who mentioned it was odd that Krait were working with anyone else.

But they could have gone one step further. They could have had priory members study them both during the Nightmares and afterwards and bring questions and theories. One NPC mentioning that these new toxic Krait seem mentally different as well as physically, and mentioning that there are still those Krait who aren’t effected.

It doesn’t take ANet to give us the answers flat-out. If they have people or journals or voice lines in-game that question what we are questioning, then it feels less like a retcon and more like a mystery. Having a bunch of different NPCs giving their own answers/opinions makes the world feel more real and gives us stuff to think about, rather than imagine.

I can’t really tell you exactly what you’re missing as you’ve said you’ve 100% each zone, so I can only suggest some ones which were added the last year through Living World:

1 in Wayfarer Foothills
1 in Diessa Plateau
2 in Kessex Hills
1 in Divinity’s Reach
1 in Gendarren Fields
1 in Lornar’s Pass
2 in Lion’s Arch

I realise you’ve mentioned LA at least, but I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.

There’s only one other place I can suggest and that is going into the Chantry of Secrets (The Order of Whispers HQ). There is a PoI in here that doesn’t count towards Bloodtide Coast.

I think what she’s saying isn’t as important as who she’s saying it to.

Why not address it to the Pale Tree, why not anyone else who doubts Tyria needs her, which is almost everyone?

She states she knows one of Caithe’s darkest secrets or perhaps even more than one and we know from the Aetherpath that Scarlet and Ceara knew each other, though how well is not explicitly stated, just that Caithe ’wasn’t impressed’.

Either way, I think the blades are a small part of her overall ‘battle suit’ we’ll see her in during next release, and I hope this secret is revealed, be it either Scarlet just screwing with her and there is no secret or the actual secret itself.

I think that wiki article is wrong/outdated or may depend on the NPC.

When GW2 was released and Glyph Of Renewal revived people from defeated like most skills of its type, I used to revive the NPCs by the helicopter during the dynamic event zergs. After they fixed/changed the skill to only revive from downed, I could no longer revive those NPCs and that was back in October 2012.

I rarely use it now (other than during Teq!) so I haven’t tested it on NPCs for ages.

JayMack.8295

I’m not always completely 100% correct on lore, so I don’t make contributions to the lore side of the wiki, but I’d remove it, personally. I don’t think a potential alliance that never saw light of day is worth placing on their page.

The actual races who forged alliances have reason to have the alliance placed on their wiki page as it is a part of their race history, but it just seems a bit pointless to add, “Scarlet considered making (race) and (race) an alliance, but for reasons unknown, this did not happen.” on every single race page that could have been in the potential alliances.

Tengu and Largos

in Lore

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

There are drawings in her lair with various lines between races, which indicate the ideas she had for alliances. Most of the lines are crossed out except 3, which are the alliances we now face.

The person who edited the wiki has written that poorly, as those lines don’t indicate that she tried to forge an alliance between them, but that she at least had the idea. She could have thought better against it in the end and not even approached them. Unless I’ve missed an interview somewhere where ANet specifically stated she approached both the Largos/Tengu and was unsuccessful, all we know is that it was an idea of hers at one point.

The thing with Lion’s Arch I don’t understand is why they had no decent anti-air defense in the first place…even before Scarlet. I mean, they live in a world with flying dragons, you’d think that’d be something they’d have, not that it would have helped them. They may have anti-air and I have missed it, though.

One thing Scarlet did do right was forge alliances with those who can attack at every possible angle. The krait attack from the water, the dredge from the earth and the aethers from the air. Now how she got these alliances…yeah, questionable.

It’s not every hour for me, but it does seem to happen to me every time I play GW2 for an extended length of time.

The noise can even happen if I have the game minimized.

A wish: Cutscenes in Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

I’ll be disappointed if this means our characters are going to remain mute from now on.

Bobby mentioned the reason our characters are mute at the moment is more of a technical problem they’re trying to overcome.

Here’s his post:

What people don’t understand is that we wrote and voiced a lot of these moments throughout the year. Some scenes and story instances were cut or never implemented in the final releases, which is why this particular story instance was longer than the typical one and filled with lots of exposition.

I sincerely hope that over course of the year there was an opportunity to get the Hero Voice Actors back into studio and allow the players to be more engaged in the climax of the arc than as mute witnesses.

Scavenge some clips from the existing Personal Story library if you have to, but please don’t leave us completely silent in the face of these world altering events!

Funny that you mention player voice. I’ve had a few meetings recently about that. I can’t go into details but I will say that it’s on the list of things we’re looking to address. The current issue is more of a tech one and less of a “we don’t want the player to talk” decision.

I’m guessing he means there’s no current way implemented for our characters to talk (i.e. like the living world characters do) in the open world outside of these one-to-one cinematics (other than audio cues from skills/conditions/etc). Hopefully once that technical hurdle is overcome, our characters will be a lot more vocal.

Elona and Palawa Joko?

in Lore

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

To quote the wiki:

“For years after the defeat of Varesh Ossa and the fall of Abaddon, Elona was at peace. The Sunspears spread across all three continents, attempting to fulfill their ancient purposes. But the peace they brought was not to last. In their campaign to end the threat of Varesh Ossa and stop Abaddon’s final attempt to free himself from the prison of the gods, the Sunspears also unleashed the architect of their own doom back upon the world—a monster who would bring about the next dark age.

The monster’s name was Palawa Joko. Within sixty years of Kormir’s rise to godhood, Palawa Joko mustered his former power and marched a new army of mummies, zombies, and other undead out of the Crystal Desert into war with Vabbi. To ensure his dominance, Palawa dammed and diverted the river Elon, causing drought and famine amid the northern provinces of Elona and creating a green and growing area within the Crystal Desert. In this area, Palawa Joko established the seat of his new kingdom.

The horrible famine caused by the diverted river caused widespread rebellion among the people of Vabbi and northern Kourna. Palawa Joko then found it all too easy to break the backs of Elonian resistance. Vabbi bowed to his strength simply to survive, and Kourna and Istan both became vassal states.

Palawa’s price for benevolence was tribute, forced loyalty, and all those who bore the name Ossa delivered unto his care. Periodically, a few more descendants were found hiding in the hills of Elona—and all were delivered unto the undead ruler of Elona. From the descendants of his ancient enemy, Palawa created a living army to match his undead one, reveling in the irony that Ossa’s children owed their lives—and their loyalty—to him.

Palawa also took great pride in the destruction of his greatest enemies: the Sunspears. Broken, their strongholds destroyed, their members scattered to the winds, they stood as a force no longer in Elona. Eventually, most of the populace forgot about the Order and their heroic deeds. Those few Sunspears who survived passed on the teachings of the Order over the course of more than a hundred years, holding onto the tenets of a barely-remembered vision. They became wandering mystics, philosophers, and lone warriors in a world that chose to forget their presence.

All but a few. Some Sunspears, taken in by Palawa Joko’s offers of power and rank, abandoned their vows. These traitors to the Order were given command of Palawa’s armies or allowed to work alone against those in Elona who once scorned them. Each one, converted personally by Palawa, was given power over death and sent out to hunt down and destroy their fellow Sunspears—or bring them before their lord to be drawn into their unholy cause. These knights, called the Mordant Crescent, became a dark presence in the sunlit southern lands of Tyria."

I’ve always thought that Scarlet’s reason for targeting LA in the first place was either precautionary (in case the probe there was needed. I’m assuming she’s been planning the locations of the probes before F&F) or to stop the races/adventurers of Tyria from being able to stop her from what she’s always wanted to do as easily. Destroying LA is going to set the races back.

She’s probably very aware we’ve ‘defeated’ Zhaitan (unless she knows something we don’t) and the Marionette fight had dialogue hinting that she’s trying to cull defenders’ numbers. She must understand that we’re a large threat to stopping her despite her blasé reactions to us whenever we see her.

“Death….good.”

I think this really depends on how it’s handled. They mentioned a loooong time ago that people will die (I can’t find this interview anymore, though), but it has to be a satisfying death for me to accept it. They’ve faced a bunch of clockwork, Aetherblades, and other hardships for months and if one of them dies from a random Molten Alliance member shoving a sword through them, I’ll be a bit disappointed.

I hope if someone dies that it’s handled through their artistic cut-scenes, too. I find it difficult to really emotionally connect with an animated sword swing and then a collapsed body animation.

But my basic point is, the death has to make sense for me to really connect with it. Killing someone for the sake of making it ‘sad’ isn’t going to really hit me.

I’m certain Scarlet will get killed or written out somehow. I think she’s gone far past the point of saving or going sane.

I can’t remember exactly what was said (again) but the group theorize that Queen Jennah et al built the Watchworks on the same basic design as the steam creatures. Scarlet already knew how to control the Steam creatures (somehow) and so had the ability to control the Watchworks, too.

In the third recording, Scarlet is absolutely certain that she’s doing what she’s doing for herself, not what’s talking to her via her mind. I can’t remember the lines exactly, but it’s something like, “I’m doing this for me, not for you.” Whether or not she actually is has yet to be discovered, but I find it interesting that whatever is talking to her seems to want the same thing she does, or at least that’s implied.

Player Character Dialogue Improvement

in The Edge of the Mists

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

Just want to say thanks for actually making my character feel important in the dialogue between myself and the Living Story characters. Giving orders and having characters ask me what to do is a good step in the right direction.

It’s A LOT better than, “Yeah. Great. Go on. Will do.”

Being from the Priory, and having a line mentioning my name being important was also good. It’s a small detail, but it’s a huge improvement. Obviously my character speaking would be the ultimate result, but I understand why that’s not always possible (both budgetary and currently technically).

Hope it continues!
