The thing about Britain is that there are a lot (I mean hundreds) of different accents and pronounciations. I can drive 10 minutes down the motorway and go into a town full of people that have a different accent than mine.

So yes, that is how some British people would pronounce claw but there are also a large amount who wouldn’t.

This skill point is slightly different than others, which catches people out.

After you have defeated the Svanir, you need to talk to him and read his text. You won’t get the skill point unless you do this. Make sure you get past the option, “What are the sons of Svanir?”

The WvW designer mentioned you should get a level roughly every hour, so I assume it levels out eventually for each rank rather than becoming progressively higher.

Something like 5000 or 10000 per rank max seems reasonable.

You need 1400 ranks to get all of the buffs assuming you get 1 point per rank, and as that’s roughly 1400 hours if you’re getting a rank per hour (for just one character), I’d think it wouldn’t get that much higher.

3 – The full art cinematics. These are my favorites by far. The art of this game is really what makes it so exceptional, and having a display of moving artwork that tells a part of the story is really thrilling. My only gripes are that there aren’t more of them and that we can’t rewatch the ones we’ve previously seen. Also, the release cinematic shown a few years ago that showed the basis of the Zhaitan story isn’t anywhere in the game, which is definitely disappointing.

Because I’ve most certainly never seen it anywhere in the game.

Most of them feature in personal story quests, or in story mode dungeons, so if you don’t do either of those things, you won’t have seen them.

There aren’t many of them to be fair, but there are some. The scene taken from the beginning of that trailer with Zhaitan waking is used at the beginning of Arah Storymode I believe for example. There’s one at the beginning of AC Storymode and one mid-way through Sorrow’s Embrace story. There’s also one just after you choose your Order in you personal story.

I was disappointed there weren’t that many, but I hope that’s something they can do for the future…add more of them!

If he’s been recently killed, he’ll be in a suspicious barrel, which looks like a destructible object (think centaur weapon racks). Chances are, though, he could already be in the world from a random passer by destroying barrels. As far as I know having stood next to him for an hour, he does not disappear once he’s revealed. He only does that once he’s been killed. He doesn’t patrol after he’s been revealed, either.

Even with my fairly large guild, we start the actual guild bounty next to him regardless of whether he turns up or not. You don’t have to scout them all out, but I’d recommend you definitely scout him and Tricksy Trekksa out beforehand. Note, though, that Trekksa doesn’t always follow the path on Dulfy’s site.

Out of the 5 guild bounties we’ve done, he’s turned up twice, and so has Trekksa. Half baked komali appeared 3 out of the 5. We’ve only done 1 Tier 3, 2 Tier 2s, and 3 Tier 1s. Not a large enough sample size to even begin drawing conclusions as to whether some turn up more often than others, but I thought I’d let you know anyway.

Did path 1 and 2 a couple hours ago and I love the changes, Robert.

Spider Queen is certainly more challenging, though I was expecting a lot harder after what I heard. Me and my guildies got her killed on second attempt and then first attempt next path. Fight goes quicker and it’s more interesting.

Same with Kholer. He dies so much quicker now that it’s almost worth doing.

Ghost Eater was a lot of fun after we figured out what to do. Co-ordinating with teammates to drag the ectos in was great.

I’m looking forward to more of these challenging but not long drawn out fights with the other dungeons in the future.

Hey Robert,

I haven’t made my Ranger yet, but some of the complaints I’ve heard from Rangers tend to be in FotM. Agony hits their pets and they’re made useless pretty quickly. This is also true to other summons, though since pets have been mentioned as what Rangers are balanced around, it’s a bit strange that they’re made so useless in FotM when agony starts hitting.

That’s just one I’ve heard Rangers complain about.

This issue is really minor but it’s something that has bugged me ever since I noticed it in the first BWE so thought I’d report it.
The pupils of my human characters’ eyes are red, instead of black. This issue, however, disappears if you can zoom in close enough to their eyes. This happens regardless of the map, the day/night cycle or what lighting is around. I’m not sure if there’s some post-processing lighting effects going on causing their pupils to go red instead of black, but it seems like it as it disappears if you get close enough.

Was going to respond to this thread but completely forgot!

As far as I’m aware, it’s ‘event failed’ music that only triggers with certain events. I’ve heard it after failing at Grenth, too. I know they added in the patch notes that they added more music to Orr, so I assume that’s it.

They’ve also added a kind of subtle jingling when you successfully get gold in an event, I think.

It was never added, it is something that has always been there – the system has to assign ownership of the instance to someone, as far as the players are concerned. It’s whoever started it. Can’t recall if fractals have cut scenes but I know in Dungeons that’s how you can tell the leader if its unclear. The leader is who shows in cutscenes.

True. I forgot about that. I’ve always just skipped them having seen them so much recently that I forgot that’s how it decides who is in the cutscene.

I’ll remember that in Exp Dungeons in the future if I’m unsure.

But yeah, for Fractals it comes down to asking the party who started it.

It’s going to remove some of the challenge from it, but I’d rather they make the sparks a physical object you hit ‘f’ to pick up, and run to a slot. I dunno, maybe make them colour coded so they only fit in a certain slot that randomizes, and deal damage to you as you’re holding them. I could actually see people tolerating her regen rate at this point, since the speed at which you get the sparks in falls completely on your team, rather than on AI that sometimes but doesn’t always decide to do what you want it to.

Otherwise, please tone down her regen a little bit.

I don’t despise underwater combat as much as some people seem to, but yes, I definitely feel there is room for improvement there.

They need to make more utility skills underwater for one. Elementalists having underwater summons, for example, would help both in weapon and elemental summons, e.g. a fire harpoon, or electric spear.

To the main topic, though…I actually enjoy this event, it’s just unfortunate that there aren’t many people that want to do it, and as it’s a group event, I can’t do it solo.

If ANEt want to dedicate the time to give people this choice…sure, why not?

I don’t see them doing it, to be completely honest with you, but I’m not against your idea. If people want to add a different element to underwater, then sure – more power to you!

If they are going to focus any resources to underwater gameplay, I would rather they actually focus on making the combat better before this, though.

However, this is an interesting idea. I mean, there are jumping puzzles on land for those people who want them…having an alternative underwater type thing where people have timed ‘swim puzzles’ would be interesting, so long as they don’t make them part of a daily/monthly for those who hate them.

It’s one of those things that has been a mystery and shrouded in mystery since 2005.

I’m sure they may have plans for it in the future, but I’d rather they spend a content update dedicated to it if they’re going to do anything to it at all. I really hope, as much as I love jumping puzzles, that they do not turn it into one. A dungeon? Sure.

My hope is, if they’re going to reveal anything about it, that they make that reveal worthy and not something where I end up going, “Oh…that’s it?”

You may have kicked the party leader, which would indeed close the instance and boot everyone out.
We are aware of a problem related to that though, and are working on solutions.

Robert, is there any way you can add a UI element to show who the party leader is or who the instance ‘belongs’ to? I know this may promote people being kick happy to those who aren’t party leaders, but it could also avoid cases where no-ones sure who the ‘party leader’ is in dungeons.

As I’ve said, I’ve created the group before, but because someone else initiated the dungeon by entering first, they were the ‘leader’ of the instance, and left. I thought the entire time that since I created the party that it was tied to me.

Was it the party leader you voted to kick? As far as I’m aware, as soon as the party leader leaves any dungeon party after they’ve started it, you all get kicked out for it.

I can’t remember if it was always this way, or if they added it at some point to prevent people from kicking party leaders and then re-inviting a friend/guildie to grab the tokens.

EDIT: The party leader in this case can be the person that actually starts the dungeon, rather than the person that created the group.

That’s what I’m thinking, too, Dusk. There were people after they announced they would remove waypoints while in combat saying things like, “I’ll just disconnect and re-connect, and run back into the dungeon to circumvent it!”.

This is one of those elusive Ostrich Stags.

But no, I can’t say I’ve seen any of this type of stuff.

I do occasionally get ‘stuck’ in animations, though. Like if I take fall damage, I can occasionally stay in the ‘lying on floor’ animation whilst still moving. Looks like someone dragging a corpse around with invisible string, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it can happen to NPCs, too.

Yeah, this was when the Karka destroyed the lighthouse, they removed the bridge. It used to be accurate, but they just haven’t updated the Map file to correspond with the change.

It’s probably something they are aware of, but at the same time, probably a very low priority thing to fix.

I strangely like it, though. Especially if I get a good, “Earth…fire…air….water!!” going. It feels like I’m trying to summon Captain Planet.

I would consider it more of an easter egg than a lore confirmation. That said, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse to the game if he wasn’t really dead. Then again, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse that most people will never see…

It looks to me like they meant to use it as a cutscene. The rocks ‘floating’ there and his body were probably meant to animate to show sinking to the seabed, but they either ran out of time and didn’t add it in, or deliberately chose to not show us his body sinking to the floor for the sense of ‘Is he really dead?’. It’s one of those ‘smoke and mirror’ techniques game devs use for some cutscenes where they place a scene completely out of the playable map.

It’s not one time as far as I know.

They’re going to add the whole living story achievement stuff probably – I.e. lighting the camp fires, collecting momentos, etc.

ANet announce one time events well in advance if there are any and I haven’t seen them announce one for this.

Sure they possibly could have awarded those people retroactively, but ANet probably figured it was easier to just give them during the Feb update.

I agree with Nuka. It’s a bit weird to make rings available in Fractals, and then not make amulets available there. Especially since ANet keep pioneering choice. If people don’t want to do fractals, they can now use Laurels to get their ascended rings AND amulets. If people want to do fractals to get amulets – they should be able to do so.

Not really weird, it puts people who fell behind due to not being interested in fotm on the same page as people who did fotm. Just like how you don’t want to do laurels, people beforehand didn’t want to do fotm. More than likely they’ll add it in fotm once infused recipes are released I speculate though, but it’s a good initiall release to bring people behind acended gear, closer to the fotm’ers’ and not fall dramatically behind

I actually am fine with dailies and fotm. Neither bother me.

But what you say could be true. It could be they’ll add the amulets to the FotM merchant/daily when it’s possible that people can obtain 30 Laurels…which would be Saturday the 16th if my math is correct – taking the Feb monthly 10 into account. Maybe around that time the Feb content update will happen.

People can still ping items from the Laurel merchant, so they could just be trolling you by pinging them and claiming they’ve got them.

Interesting. I’ll have to have a look in CS to find it.

It certainly looks like Zhaitan during the laser ‘press 2 to kill Zhaitan’ challenge. It has a charred wing, a damaged tail, and what looks like quite a few snake-like shapes leaving its mouth,.

Maybe it was meant to be used as a cutscene showing Zhaitan’s body descend back to the seabed, considering that’s where he was sleeping initially, which they eventually removed.

I just completed my January monthly so if the January update includes the achievement changes, does it mean I will lose out on the 10 crowns, or will I be retro actively compensated at least just for this month?

The January monthly achievement, regardless of when you complete it will not reward the new crown currency.

I know that this doesn’t answer the OP’s question – more to respond to JayMack. Though I would think that if the monthly achievement does not count for the month in which they released the patch, then the daily achievement would not count for the day in which the released the patch.

I’m confused…are you agreeing with what I said, or have you read what I’ve said wrong? Granted, I may have made my response a bit too ‘wordy’.

My post basically meant that if they can make sure January doesn’t count for Laurels even after the patch has happened, then I don’t see why they can’t make sure that today’s daily doesn’t count either.

I mean, I’m almost 99.9% sure that today’s daily won’t give you Laurels even if the patch is applied before reset. It’ll cause ANet extra work to retro-actively give people Laurels because I am 100% sure the playerbase are going to complain on this forum about it if people who did the daily late in the day got Laurels and they didn’t.

Boss mechanics redesign

I think rather than what defiance is now, there should be some sort of mechanic within the boss fight itself, or an animation that opens up a short window where they can be CC’d for the next…2 seconds or so.

As the mechanic is right now on certain bosses, you remove the stacks by CC-ing them. Once that’s done, you can successfully CC them once before they gain the stacks again (from what I understand), but in the naturally fast-paced action of this game, the problem becomes that someone is rapidly cycling through their skills, and the CC they apply is not overly helpful or even planned, and then it goes back to being stacked. Creating a short window where players can expect their CC to work allows them to plan their CC for a boss when he’s about to activate a really devastating skill.

Was that actually Zhaitan’s corpse in the initial teaser trailer? I noted it was missing in the full release, because I remember it looking epic, but my first thought wasn’t that it was a dead Elder Dragon back then…just a very long dead dragon, like the remains of the giants in Crystal Desert in GW1. Looking at it again, though, I can see the similarity from the concept of him shown at the beginning of the trailer to the corpse in-game. Judging by its positioning, it looks as if you were meant to go through the dragon’s mouth.

I dunno – maybe they felt like giving it some mystery as to whether he’s truly dead…I hope he is truly defeated, though. I don’t want this whole, ‘Oh crap, we didn’t actually check to see if the Dragon who’s been plaguing us for 100 years is actually defeated…we just assumed so…whoops! Back to Arah, heroes, we need to make sure he’s actually defeated this time as he’s being a bit of a bother!"

Sure, make him dormant in lore if you have to reveal that eventually, I just don’t want him actually returning in GW2’s lifespan.

Which I certainly did not mean. When I say approach to sexuality, I do not mean ‘they think it’s wrong to be homosexual’, I mean compared to the fact that Sylvari are very open with it.

But I found this from Ree, anyway after a google search:

Ree: Other races of the world see the sylvari as odd for many more reasons than simply their sexuality – the issue of same-gender love among the sylvari is no more strange to, say, a norn than the fact that sylvari bleed a type of sap and not blood. Other races have a history of same-sex relationships, but those relationships tend to be downplayed and not lauded within the culture. This is not to say that the races of Tyria are naturally homophobic; they’re absolutely not. It’s simply not particularly common.

Within the sylvari, all forms of benevolent love are encouraged. If love makes you and the recipient stronger, if it encourages you to positive action and heroism, then it should be respected and celebrated. The sylvari see this as only natural. The other races are curious about it, true, because many of them aren’t used to seeing that kind of relationship. Still, the other races don’t, in general, approach it with a sense of abhorrence or disdain.

However, it should be noted that there will always be individuals whose personal beliefs counter their general racial tendency. You know, I think it’s sad that homosexuality seems to be only present in Sylvari. It looks like Anet made them as they are, so they have a scapegoat, showing us more liberal players that they are cool enough to show homosexuals, but they are still afraid of rightwingers, so they make them on the strange plant race only. That itself makes it look like homosexuality is something wierd that only appears in weird races.

I’ve heard there are homosexuals of other races, but they are rather hidden, usually heart NPCs that fall in “love” with you regardless of race and gender.

As has been mentioned, I think this is just because Sylvari are so openly vocal about pretty much everything. They don’t seem to have many, if any, taboos in their culture other than what the nightmare court vouch for (ignoring the Ventari tablet)…but even then, some Sylvari don’t consider them evil.

They probably find it extremely odd that other races may hide their sexual preferences in case other people judge them negatively for it. As has been mentioned by Ree (I think it was Ree), the Sylvari don’t have kids, so there’s no, “This is what we’re ‘meant’ to do to continue our race!” argument in terms of sexuality (to be clear, I don’t think there is a ‘right’ way in real life, either), so they purely have sex for pleasure and enjoying each other. Their only guides in life are what the Ventari tablet has on it and the Pale Tree, and neither of them comment on sexuality.

Interestingly, though, there are of course no (as far as I’m aware) comments of sexuality in the other races either in terms of who they seek, or do not seek, guidance from. They all value different things in who they are attracted to, but I agree it would be interesting to get more information on what the other races approaches to sexuality are. It is implied, like the Sylvari, that humans have sex for pleasure judging by the conversation the recently married couple have in Beetletun, if indeed you can surmise that they ran into a house giggling to have sex, but I’m not overly sure what the other races approaches to casual sex even are.

The game is more CPU dependant than GPU and upgrading your CPU will probably make the biggest difference.

I’m not massively familiar with ATI compared to NVidia and I’m on my phone at the moment, so I can’t really research your current card to the one you intend to buy so can’t really comment on that.

A dev posted in a thread related to this a while ago asking if the OP was in combat or not, so I assume it’s intended.

Katreyn, Orr is so mobbed with enemies that you may have been in the ‘combat’ state without an enemy obviously attacking you. I imagine there’s a chance for the Orr to ruin if you’re in the combat state, i.e. speed slowed down, health not regenning, rather than if you are actively taking damage, though I can’t say for certain. And yeah, I’ve been stuck in combat before, too, usually if I get away from a mob by scaling mountains or ledges to avoid it.

I reported this in the beta as a bug. It’s been around for ages and as far as I know, there isn’t a way to stop them from spawning so quickly.

It feels like it shouldn’t be happening and was maybe an event they removed and just forgot to remove the scripting for it, or it’s just a bug in the spawn rates. It may be worth posting it in the ‘mob respawn rate’ thread and see if you get a response.

Have you played as all professions? It may say you’ve got all the profession related hints unlocked in the UI but it may have not registered them correctly. Only thing I can think of. Considering you’ve got three level 80s, I’d be surprised if it just failed to register the general ones.

Otherwise – yeah. Probably a bug.
