They need to create a dedicated place for GvG. Implementing it into the PvE maps just causes problems.

If you’re a member of a large guild and have been with them sometime and don’t want to participate in GvG, how do you stop it? Not represent? So they get punished and can’t reap the rewards of Guild Buffs because their leaders want to GvG but they don’t? Do you make it a majority vote in a guild to enter a GvG or not? If you do, this still isn’t fair to larger guilds. If they have 400 active members, and 210 vote yes and 190 vote no, then 190 are then forced to either not represent or have to engage in fights while they explore designated maps. Do you then only count votes of those online at the time, or is there a voting ‘time-limit’ before the GvG can even begin?

How do you then stop people dodging fights by just not representing? Two people from (x) guild are running towards me from a distance? I’ll just quickly not-represent. Even if you’re out of combat, you can still do this. There aren’t a lot of enclosed, easy to ‘jump on’ areas in this game, and people in a GvG are going to be paranoid and looking around when it looks like an un-favourable situation is heading their way.

It just causes far too many issues.

I agree they need to do GvG – they do. But they need to dedicate and invest in making it an actual feature with its own area/maps instead of lumping it with another game type.

I thought it looked like Caithe, too. If it is Twilight Arbor, I’m not against a Living World revolved around TA or any dungeon/revamp.

It causes people to mass do it for 2 weeks, and you get a large amount of feedback in those two weeks on how it is – like how there’s a mass amount of feedback on Teq atm, instead of anything else they may have lumped him with.

I imagine there’ll be a bit of open world content to go with it, too, if it is about TA…about the nightmare court, maybe.

The timers need to go

Remove the timer? Ok, maybe, but the event needs to have a fail condition or, as I said, no amount of challenge will matter, and they intended this to be a challenging open world piece of content.

The timer freezes when the ‘Defend the laser’ event starts (with it’s own timer). If you succeed it, Teq becomes vulnerable for a period of time (takes more damage). If you don’t, you get a tidal wave to the face.

As soon as the Defend the Laser event is over, the timer to defeat Tequatl unfreezes.

I think they plan on making Zhaitan more epic, too, in the future, but still – he’s a dungeon boss. You’re going to have to throw logic a little bit out of the window here when all it requires is 5 people and a load of NPCs to kill him.

Do keep in mind, though, that the majority of the last parts of the PS involve weakening Zhaitan. He’s not at full ‘strength’ when we fight him.

I don’t think they’ve been removed. Granted, I very rarely if ever hear it now, but that’s because I rarely find people using it. I used to hear it most often when bots used it during the epidemic of 2012.

I think they’ve just made it a very low frequency chance of triggering. The same’s true of Mesmer mantras. They take a lot of using them to trigger the voice line. I’m sure I heard it at least once a couple weeks back.

Either way, yeah. A frequency slider would be nice but I’m sure it’s on a really low priority list, so if it happens, I doubt it’ll happen for months if not another year.

1-2 Trib Mode Wurm Shortcut bugged.

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

Except there’s obvious patterns and a viable way to do it. If it weren’t intended, they would have made it a LOT harder to get through, i.e. having to abuse the engine to get past…which you don’t need to do. It’s just timing and careful movement.

There’s more evidence that you’re meant to be able to do it than there’s not. There’s also death traps on the platform AFTER you exit the shortcut wurm that you can only reach by completing it. If they intended no-one to beat it, they wouldn’t have put traps on a platform you can only reach after completing it anyway.

There’s also a really logical reason as to why they didn’t allow the eagle. It’s harder to make more difficult than the wurm is and the world 2 zones are significantly larger. The eagle cuts out a huge part of zone 2, and the wurm doesn’t cut that large a portion out of zone 2 of world 1.

SAB is dying...

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

I don’t necessarily think that releasing them at the same time was a bad idea.

I think that basing the playtime of SAB compared to April’s release is a bad idea. There’s scarlet invasions that happen at random now, champion farming, and ascended weapons. I agree that ascended weapon materials (particularly ethereal fragments – if SAB were the most lucrative way to get them) would have people playing SAB.

Still, I thought it was pretty standard that if you compare two sets of data from different time periods, you try to logically figure out why, rather than just go ‘less people play it.’

Nah, if anything they should be giving him praise because hopefully they’ll change their policy on how often and how transparent devs can be with us.

Besides, he didn’t insult Anet in his blog in the slightest. He’s just telling the truth. He’s even said he’s been with them for 10 years and finds them supportive and great to work for.

However, the fact they would stop Josh from posting as much as he did without giving us the reason why is not being that supportive of him. Had he not made that blog post, most of us would be thinking he no longer cared about what we think because he just stopped posting here. They should be encouraging their employees to talk with us more often, not encouraging them to talk to us less often and if he gets any type of punishment for that blog post, I’ll be disgusted with how Anet has treated him.

As far as I’m aware, they give no lore to whether they even attempted to check if he died but couldn’t for (x) reason. Having said that, the Orr tokens seem to imply he has.

I’ve just read it.

I actually agree with the OP. We shouldn’t be quiet about this – it’s ridiculous.

Josh posting as often as he did and being as transparent as he was (I’m not expecting ANet to tell us every little secret) was great to see in this forum. I’ve read through his forum posts, and none of it came across as the company being incompetent or him trying to get ANet into trouble.

It was refreshing to see. We all make mistakes – we’re human. It was great to see him being honest.

I won’t be surprised if this gets locked but I just wanted to put my thoughts here before it does. Don’t make your employees afraid to post, ANet and don’t treat them like children whose posts have to be approved.

Still, yes. They are abundant. I’d rather they reduce the amount you need to make a brick and reduce the amount you get from champions.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

JayMack.8295

I have no problem with criticism and I’m sure the devs realise that forums are always going to attract negativity more than positivity.

Where it starts getting stupid, though, is when it’s not at all constructive. When I see posts like, “these devs are incompetent and should hang themselves.” or, “I demand you do (x) or I’m gonna quit.” is when it crosses a line. If someone spoke to me like that physically face to face, their complaint would be lost on me immediately and I’d ban them from having anything to do with my business. Their money means little to me if they have the social skills of a gnat.

Also this ‘the customer is always right’ that gets spewed around needs to go away, too. Quite often, they’re wrong and I’m not going to give in to demands of a customer if they’re being completely unreasonable. You’re talking to other human beings and you are equal to them whether you want to admit it to yourself or not. There’s no excuse for treating them like they deserve less than you do. Of course, there are those that do this on purpose for their own entertainment, and while I just feel sorry for them, it’ll never stop while anonymity exists.

That said, there isn’t a terrible amount of that here. Sometimes people get passionate and cross into levels of hyperbole, but I think most of the threads I see are mostly constructive with a little bit of frustration mixed in.

Chance that they’ll be here in the next year? Maybe not, but Colin recently said they have small team working on capes in their free time.

Please tell me...

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

He wasn’t almost downed by any of those teams naturally. ANet helped the third group get his health lower than 25%.

Without ANet’s help, they probably would have struggled to get him to 75% like the rest of the groups that day.

Anyway, I’m not sure if this is their answers to raids or not, but in a recent interview with Colin, he pretty much said that it was very unlikely they’d raise dungeons above 5 people because they felt it was the right number for co-ordination and not having to look for a bunch of people to start.

Whether his attitude towards dungeons applies to all instances, I don’t know.

Thief, Mesmer or Necro

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

If you want to be the boss of condition damage, then go Necro.

I haven’t levelled a Necro, personally, so I can’t comment, but I found thief really boring to level up and in general to play in PvE. However, I’ve had a blast playing a thief in WvW and sPvP.

My Mesmer wasn’t boring to level up, but it took a while for it to get good. It seems they scale a lot better when they’ve got all their traits unlocked. They’re wanted for PvE and WvW, though their role seems a bit different.

There is a Necro roaming WvW build in the Necro forum, I believe (I can’t link it, I’m on my phone), so a Necro is viable at roaming, which would make conditions a lot more useful. The problem with condition damage in large scale battles like zergs at world bosses, is that you become less and less effective the more people there are damaging a single target as conditions cap out. This is less a problem in WvW. I’ve encountered quite a few Necro condition builds used against me in WvW, but that’s owing to there being a lot more than a single target in large scale battles.

I think i’d try out a Necro and a Mesmer if I were you, but if you definitely want a condition build, then go Necro.

@Talyn – I think you misunderstood his post. He was saying his Engi and Guardian are built for high crit damage. He typo’d ‘are’ with ‘ate’.

SAB difficulty in future

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

I’m hoping it will, personally. I liked the original world 2, but I get why it was made easier.

Josh has already confirmed he won’t make the world 3 and 4 zones as long as world 2’s, which I think will help. People will hopefully appreciate the difficulty more if the worlds are shorter and have less buggy mechanics.

Still, so long as Josh and the SAB team introduce new mechanics unique to each world, I won’t mind too much.

Following the old tropes of classic platformers, I’m expecting a lava zone, which I think will bring its own difficulty. If they can pull a mario and make the environmental objects around huge for one zone, that’ll be appreciated (kinda like the Wintersday jumping puzzle).

I’m also expecting some projectiles from walls that fire fireballs at you, and some form of environmental hazard that rotates and takes some jump timing to avoid.
