Yes. I’d be lying if I said it depended on (x).

Fractal concerns with 1/28 patch

It wouldn’t surprise me if they add more paths to fractals down the line. I seem to remember a dev saying shortly after FotM was released that it’s flexible enough story and design wise to make sense to add more paths.

There are a couple of these spread throughout Tyria that catch people out. As far as I can remember, none of the PoIs have ever been bugged, so if you run into another on your travels, it’s either going to be above you or beneath you. Sometimes you can tell because there are small arrows next to icons either pointing up or down, which tell you where it is in relation to the z-axis.

I actually think he’s the best boss in the game. He’s well designed, and his animations are clear enough (thanks to his size, I suppose) that I know when to dodge, and if I don’t dodge at the right times, I know it falls down to it being my fault. Granted, I think vigor is extremely helpful for phase two onwards, but it’s not completely necessary.

I wish more bosses in this game had phase like structures.

Stealth and blindness

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

Blindness causes the next attack to miss. Once the attack successfully misses, it disappears. You have to constantly re-apply blindness to cause someone to miss multiple attacks.

Certain traits can cause damage from stealth to increase. Thieves have a trait called Hidden Killer, which causes attacking from stealth to always crit. Additionally, a thief’s number 1 skill changes when they are stealthed, which can cause extra damage under circumstances or cause conditions . Dagger 1 changes from ‘Double Strike’ to ‘backstab’ when a thief is stealthed, which causes them to deal double damage when they attack their target’s back.

Why should I?

They don’t ask us before they do it, because our guild is relaxed and we don’t ask for daily updates from our members about what they’re doing. If they’re in another server, we give them a ‘wvw exploring’ rank and that’s about it so they aren’t kicked. I’m not going to warn people that they shouldn’t go mapping on CD because they want world completion because a couple of people from their server think we may be spying on them – they can do what the hell they like, it’s their game time. There are a number of people in our guild that are going for world completion who are in servers other than CD, too, because they’ve done research on who’s best to go to currently for what they’ve got left.

Stop being so paranoid about something that isn’t even true.

Prayer to Dwayna benefit

Casting time on Prayer to Dwayna’s pretty short. I think it’s on par to the other heals other than Ether Renewal on ele (that I know of).

The benefit is that the heal is generally larger than the other ones (at least for an ele), but it offers no benefits other than just a straight heal.

To the guy from OBEY guild from FA that transfer to CD for “Map completion”, you should have gone to kaineng or maguuma they have the whole map now

OBEY has been doing this ‘move’ since the release of the game when they were on SF. I have seen them relay information from enemy chat before, so personally I think it is just a ploy to be a really crummy spy.

Nice try, but no.

It’s not something we would order, and even if it was, we don’t have a large enough dedicated WvW base in our guild to even bother attempting something like this. The vast majority of our guild is PvE, and we very occasionally do WvW events for fun.

What you’ve seen is probably what members of every guild out there have had: A random member of the guild actually being there for map completion but then telling the guild what the opposing team’s state is because they’ve felt like it. It’s not some order from our leader or any of the co-leaders (myself included) to gain information about CD.

IoJ: It’s been fun. You guys are always up for a laugh in the EB jumping puzzle, too, so I’ll miss you regardless of what the outcome is.

First Time Playing MMO ! HELP!

If you only want to PvP, you don’t have to worry about levelling up your character to 80. As soon as you exit the tutorial, you can enter the mists (the sword icon towards the top left of the user interface). You will be automatically levelled to 80, and have access to max armour, all your traits and all your skills.

Here you can practice on test dummies that are scattered around the mists.

Also, talk to the PvP Master (he also has cross-sword icons above his head), and go into a lobby. These PvP games are fairly relaxed and you won’t be ruining someone’s experience by entering them. People join and leave servers all the time.

If you’ve got a friend that wants to help you practice, you can also ask to spar each other by finding an empty lobby.

Moorwatch Tower Vista Bug[Merged]

Hey

The Cattlepult has been bugged for for a couple of days now. It’s not the whole ‘this content has been temporarily disabled’, or that it can’t be interacted with until an event is over – I’m aware of that as I have a 100% word completed character.

The issues seems to be that the event has stopped cycling. Harpies don’t attack it, Tigh doesn’t go and collect cows, and Mad Mardine doesn’t test the cattlepult at all. The whole cycle seems to be stuck, which has rendered the cattlepult completely inaccessible to be even investigated with ‘f’, making the vista impossible to reach.

I don’t really know what quite caused this, just that it happened, but I’ll try to explain as best as I can.

As an ele, I changed to dagger/dagger during Simin, Dwayna priestess to get the most DPS possible. After a really lengthy battle, we managed to kill her. After fighting her, I tried to switch back to Staff, but couldn’t.

I wasn’t getting the message that I was still in combat, and every time I double clicked my staff, I heard the equip audio cue, but the staff refused to equip and I was still in dagger/dagger.

Logging back out, and then back in fixed this eventually, so it’s not a serious bug, but it was a bit odd that I had to leave the dungeon to get my staff equipped.

Arah dungeon- seers path is impossible to finish.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

JayMack.8295

Yeah – this fight has far too many annoying elements for it to be worth it.

We finally did it with my group after about 5 people left and we managed to get me (an Ele), a ranger, 2 warriors and a mes in.

I agree with others that some part of it is getting to know the spark mechanics, but they are far too unreliable that it stops being player based skill, and on how well the AI will react to you. That, and they are glitchy. One refused to enter its seal despite us getting it to run over it multiple times.

Also, this fight pretty much goes against the philosophy of “don’t get forced into roles”…because you need a good amount of DPS to even get it done as she heals far too quick for any team that doesn’t have it to keep her below the 50% threshold in the first place.

I don’t just think her healing needs to slow down, I think some parts of this entire fight need to be reworked so it’s less frustrating for people. I shouldn’t feel after doing a path that I never want to do it again, but that is how I feel. I got it done, and now I will not step back into path 4 until she is toned down. She is ridiculously annoying (I wouldn’t say difficult) compared to the rest of the dungeon. At least I know with Lupi that my team and I could have dodged at better times, or dealt with the grubs better, but with this fight, it’s just frustrating.

Please look into re-working her.

Final Event should be repeated.

JayMack.8295

Well I wasn’t too bothered about missing it, as I was out at my friend’s BDay, and I’m not that much of a kitten friend to ditch it just to do an event.

However…

Now that people are finding events in overflows repeating, and it’s becoming a random luck game to try to get into an overflow that has it recently active, it’s gotten a bit annoying since even those that missed it initially are getting chances to do it again through luck, or those that aren’t lucky enough can’t get in…some people are even trying to do it twice to see if they can get double the rewards (which I’m not sure is possible, but hey!).

So yeah, I agree. Repeat it, and keep it repeating for a day or more every 3 hours.

forum users are about 5% of gw2 community and the other 95% are probably looking forward to the new patch as i am just saying

What you are seeing here though is from a lot of users who do not normally post in the forums and who are now only doing so because of recent developments (like me). So yes, previously all the whining about endgame, no progression grind, raiding came from your five percentile.

His point is, 2700 negative replies to a thread do not equal the majority of the community’s opinion. Using it as a reason to go, “Hey ANet…this is gonna cause the game to fail, and you’re gonna lose the majority of your playerbase! Just look at this thread of negative opinions!! Most people hate it!!” is not true in the slightest.

You just said it yourself – you signed up to this forum to complain…as do a lot of people. Positive opinions are seldom found in a forum compared to negative ones because people are A LOT more vocal about complaining than they are about praising…unfortunately.

I’m sure there will be significantly more posts than 2700. It’s early yet.

The number doesn’t matter. Also some of those responses are by the same people anyway. Whatever number it reaches, it will not represent the majority opinion, even if someone made a thread and it had 5000 positive responses, it still wouldn’t be enough to say “Actually, most people like the change, ’cause only 3000 people posted in the negative one!”.

As I mentioned in another thread, a lot of those opinions will be kneejerk reactions anyway. ANet, like any good developer today, will let it stay in the game for at least a couple of weeks before they consider making significant changes to the system. There are a lot of people that just hate change, regardless of what that change is and they kneejerk react to it. Letting players actually experience it for a couple of weeks gives them a more well-thought out opinion, and THAT is more valuable to ANet. If this is still a huge problem weeks down the line, then it wouldn’t surprise me if ANet change the way Ascended items work, or are obtained.

Most of us don’t need to “experience” it, we’ve already “experienced” it in previous MMO’s, which is why we came here, so we didn’t have to “experience” it anymore. It’s a great game, I love it, I wanna play more of it. I don’t want to play WoW, or a watered down version of WoW, I don’t want to play with people who want this to be WoW. Ascended items are unnecessary, their one and only use is to garner players who enjoy a gear grind. The majority of players came here to get away from the gear grind. A gimmick introduced in a dungeon to promote gear grind is weak at best and patronizing at worst. If that makes me a MMO snob who doesn’t like Johnny Gear Grind, then so be it.

Except you’ve experienced it in a different MMO and assume it’ll be exactly the same in this one. If it turns out to actually be a ‘gear grind’ (a word that people seem to like throwing around at the moment without knowing if getting these items will in fact even involve a grind) then I’ll completely agree with your complaint, and I would imagine ANet will, too. They’re going to make legendaries more ‘fun’ to obtain, after all. Point is, no-one knows if it is a grind without having experienced how ANet will do it.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

JayMack.8295

Personally, I do not know why people are upset about ascended gear, it is just another grind/farm for you to accomplish after you finish your grind/farm for your exotic.

MMO players are a horrible self-entitled crowd, they’ll moan about anything, even free content. They see something new, some guy blows it out of proportion and the rest follow like sheep.

The core game didn’t change but the very same “dedicated” Guild Wars fans threaten to quit because of this. It’s fear mongering and sheep herding at its best. Try to count how many times you see “gear treadmill” and “power creep” being mentioned. You’ll get the idea.

This isn’t just MMO players, there are a lot of (especially forum-going) gamers today in general that are hyperbolic and fickle. There are (now) plenty of examples of gamers in the past going, “This is bullkitten! Let’s boycott it! RAAARHHH!” and then a lot of them buying it anyway, or look back on it 6 months down the line and end up going, “Yeah…wasn’t actually that bad.”

Smart developers know this now. They’ll let a community play the new change for a month or two first, and if it’s still such a massive problem after the kneejerk reactions are gone, then they’ll do something about it.

What makes you think acquiring these new items will be a grind? He’s arguing about weapons being more powerful based on someone putting hundreds of hours into getting them.

If these new weapons can be acquired in a couple of hours, what’s the problem? The whole point of ‘grinding’ for stuff is to differentiate between the hardcore and the casual. If the casual can easily get this new gear – what is there to worry about?

If it were an actual event I could only participate in once at 8pm GMT, however, then yeah, I might get annoyed.

8pm is much better for students and nine-to-fivers than between 12pm-3pm. Every single person I know in the country that plays would need to play hookie to participate. If that’s really one of the highest concurrency slots, then you guys across the pond must really be kicking it hard in game on Friday nights.

I will most definitely be missing it. But Ill be able to get on for the entirety of Sunday’s and I was there for Mad King reveal. So 2-3 ain’t bad.

That point wasn’t meant to be quite that personal. What I was trying to get across was that missing a one-time event that involves actual content (such as a dragon flying into LA that we have to fend off) wherever you are situated in the world is going to be annoying if you miss it. Like the user above me said, so long as they keep these one-time events confined to cut-scenes we can see later on YouTube or to an NPC’s fine.

I had to miss all 3 of the BWE finale events because they fell on a time where I had to go to work, so I get that it’s annoying, and I don’t want them to do actual events players participate in once and once-only at one particular time because I think that’s unfair even though I do live in a place where it is advantageous for me at 8pm. However, events that involve cutscenes that show cool things I’m fine with if I miss them so long as there’s a way for me to watch it later!

Lost Shores heads up....

To be fair, like Nether said, I doubt these will be like missing actual events. Nothing happened in GW1 like a statue blowing up once, so there was nothing to miss. The actual content in these special events in GW1 and GW2 has played out almost the same so far, such as Mad King being in LA every couple of hours and playing a game/playing tricks.

I’ll be missing Friday’s kick-off, but I’m not going to be overly bothered if it’s a cutscene that shows something I can later watch on YouTube. If it were an actual event I could only participate in once at 8pm GMT, however, then yeah, I might get annoyed.

Just read the heads up article in announcements. So Friday night, then Saturday and you might as well say ALL day Sunday.

I have to agree with the op on this. Yes it is great. Wish it wasn’t so soon after Halloween.

Then you have to realize they will be doing something next month for the holidays. Too much too quick.

I am glad I was one of the folks that didn’t rush to level 80 and whine they had nothing to do.
Highest level character is 62.

My concern is will there be enough content for lower level folks?

They’ve stated that you’ll be upscaled to 80 for the important stuff over the weekend, so you don’t have to worry about being level 80 to experience it.

It’s not in ANET’s nature to pull off some form of cataclysmic event that’ll prevent players from reaching a map that was previously accessible and lock content out that was in the base game a player bought (i.e. I’m not talking about festival events). Their design philosophy points to adding further content with these events rather than locking content to make way for more, so I wouldn’t worry.

Not a solid answer, I realise, as I’m not a dev, but I just don’t see that ever happening. They may destroy something permanently, but I’d be very surprised if that something prevented new players from seeing a part of a map that was previously accessible, rather it would be a landmark like the Lion Statue.

However, your ‘fix’ is absurd. I’d rather they just change it so that way-pointing to LA is free wherever you are in the world without people having to work-around it by going to the mists in the first place. As the social, crafting, festival event, etc, etc. hub, it makes sense for LA to be free to waypoint to. Additionally, those that are unaware that porting to the mists first allows them a free trip to LA aren’t now getting screwed over by being unaware.

I don’t know for certain since I don’t have a full set of any of them, but from what other people say, it’s the rune that makes it ‘Mad King’. The appearance is that of a general exotic armour.

The general Halloween content ends on the 1st, i.e. the mad king’s labyrinth, clock tower, act 4, mining the corn, etc.

Anything that involves the Black Lion Trading company lasts until the 5th, such as the costumes, and any rare skins you can get from the chests.

Might be worth letting ANet know what ISP you’re with and where you’re located.

Mad King's voice

A group I was in this evening almost unanimously complained that the voice-over (and acting) for the Mad King was horrible. I thought they were crazy, and came to the conclusion that people really will complain about anything.

Only thing I can complain about is at default volumes in the dungeon, his voice often becomes a bit too quiet with certain words so the only way I can hear what he’s said is to read it.

Overall, though, I was initially worried about how they’d make him sounds since he’s always been voiceless in GW1, however I was pleasantly surprised. I agree with the above poster, he’s voice acted very well.
