Don’t let him freeze you with his Shroud #5 skill and don’t fight inside the ice field because the chill will destroy you. Try to stun him because he doesn’t have lot of stability or stun breakes.

Reaper Shroud doesn’t have a lot of stability?

We playing the same class ?

For a warrior, it seems like a ton. For a Mesmer, they won’t care, you’re still going to get interrupted.

starting life force

Jayce.5632

I start games with 15% life force. With that, I can enter Reaper for one or two quick Death Charges. But that requires putting two skills on cooldown. If I decide to go home, I usually have one skill still on about a 10-15 second cooldown if the enemy decides to contest the point at the start. Would I like to start with, say 20% and none of my skill already recharging? Yes, especially considering that I have give up so much in terms of build options just to get that 15%.

Is there any viable build with gs for spvp?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Jayce.5632

Jayce.5632

Is there a viable build? no there isn’t because what ever build anyone posts here will lack something that you need.

You need spec grasp to set up gravedigger and other combos, pull people from ledges or interrupt somsone close to you quickly since GS is so slow . Using GS without it is quite difficult. You need to be able to make your attacks unblockable because nearly every class has a lot of blocks.

You do realize Greatsword effectively comes with a Spectral Grasp built in, right? And it’s AoE? Yes, you do lose 450 range, but it can’t be sidestepped easily.

Actually, GS5 misses quite often people who aren’t even trying to avoid it. It needs a wider arch. I have a better time pulling foes when I manually aim it to lead targets.

Jayce.5632

It takes a lot of patience to run a build with GS. It works best when you +1 or team fighting. Wouldn’t recommend 1v1 with it unless you are proficient at setting up combo chains, primarily to build up life force combo first, then landing that Gravedigger combo second.

The build I use works for me, but only after a whole lot practice with it. And even then, it probably won’t work for other necro’s playstyle. I run a Viper GS+S/D based build powered by blighters boon and vampiric aura. Most damage dealt is still physical followed by poison then either burning or bleeding. Excellent life force recovery, weak corruptions, good condition removal, decent mobility, very good health recovery.

Buff NCSY To Counter Bunker Mesmer

We can already counter bunker mesmers, that is, only if you are good.

Nothing can save you should be instand cast, that is all.

I don’t really mind the cast time on NCSY. Gives me the chance to cancel the cast. But I do think that its base duration of 4 seconds should be increased to 5 seconds. Necros can pressure bunker mesmers well. I’m currently running Berserker GS/AD and Spite A3B1C3, SR A3B2C1, Reaper A3B2C1 with YSIM/CB/PS/NCSY/CTTB. Provides a good amount of boon removal, enough to handle most mesmers and revanants builds.

You people really need to stop throwing around internal cooldown suggestions, especially on defensive abilities. There is nothing scaling about internal cooldown.

You’re wrong in this case. If the problem was too much scaling from outside sources then throttling via an ICD is the obvious solution. The way it is now Reaper needs dramatically more access to boons to get anything out of this trait. There are certain builds that can generate more boons on demand but a large portion of Reaper builds are severely lacking in boon generation.

Then restricted it to specific boon types, and not any and all boons. Not enough? Increase the boon type. Too much? Shave the boon type. Some boon types are easier to apply than others. Anything but an ICD.

BWE 3 Reaper Specialization Feedback Thread

Jayce.5632

My Reaper Specialization View
Area View – PVP

General:

I found that maintaining life force while in Reaper’s Shroud was somewhat difficult against competent opponents of equal skill level. Roughly half of my attacks was simply negated by invulnerability, weapon evades, and blocks. Even if I managed to keep up with my enemies’ kiting tactics, time is never on my side due to the natural degeneration of life force alone, on top of the often substantial amount of damage taken in the process. I believe a nug is all that is needed in this case in Reapers Shroud skills 2-5. A 1% gain on skill use (Important), not hit. I don’t think this could see some abuse when you factor in the cool down of the skills. I also think it could soften the blow when chills just won’t stay on targets or when you want to trait a master other than Chilling Force.

Shouts:

“Nothing Can Save You!” – This buff often expires right when you need need it most. Executing a combo chain! Especially a combo while in Shroud. I think a 1 second increase to its base duration, bringing it from 4 seconds to 5 seconds would help.

“Chilled To The Bone!” – This skill should provide the user at least some stability on use, even if it is blocked or the user is blinded. It also should not be placed on full cool down if cancelled or interrupted.

Reapers Shroud:

Death’s Charge – This skill will sometimes fail to actually leap at a selected target, even when not immobilized.

Executioner’s Scythe – Release the Kraken of this skill. Make it AOE 3-5 targets.

No Changes Necessary:

“Your Soul Is Mine!”
“You Are All Weaklings!”
Augury Of Death
Decimate Defenses
(Important)
Blighter’s Boon
Reaper’s Onslaught

Did Not Test At All:

Greatsword
“Rise!”
Chilling Nova
Soul Eater

(Important) – Aimed at reducing the dependency effect that the Soul Reaping line currently has on Reaper’s Shroud.

Well technically it already has a 1 second per target ICD, according to the description of the trait on the wiki, but I feel like the traits effects are too weak for little chill most builds not using GS autos will be able to put out.

And next will be Corrupt Boon that gets blocked by anything short of Aegis. It seems that Anet has introduced two different checks for blocks. I’m noticing that traited marks will not remove the Aegis boon now. Will confirm this with further testing tomorrow.

…why are you saying this?

Spinal Shivers was never unblockable It got an incorrect skill fact added. It is only unblockable by the Aegis boon; anything else will still block.

Corrupt Boon is truly unblockable.

Unblockable marks don’t remove Aegis because they don’t get blocked. Aegis doesn’t get removed by attacks unless it actually blocks one.

I’m saying it because both Corrupt Boon and Spinal Shivers would fail whenever they tried to remove Aegis. Now it seems, that at the time, the simplest way to fix this was to make them unlockable, probably (and this is only my opinion) because there was no way to distinguish between Aegis and an active blocking skill. Unholy Feast was, and probably still is, the only boon removing skill that could be blocked, even by Aegis.

They really do need to fix the unlockable bug. I’m not so sure about a cast time reduction. This skill, along with chill of death trait, can down almost anyone when it doesn’t get blocked. I actually count the seconds of the trait just to use this skill.

What your talking about is the strength of the trait chill of death, not the skill spinal shivers. Your talking about combining the two, but you would probably be better off auto attacking on dagger or hitting a life blast. Spinal shivers is bad, and anyone decent will dodge it. Honestly, chill of death is super cheap and they should remove it. Replace it with actual burst skills on necro actual weapons (dagger 2, axe 2, focus 4/5).

For instance, they could remove chill of death, make spinal shivers instant, and replace chill of death with a trait that made wells pulse 20 seconds of might to everyone in them.

First off, don’t shoot the messenger. Yes I’m talking about both the trait and the skill. The strength of them both together. While one of them will always work, the other does not due to a bug. I’m not going to get into a discussion about removing chill of death, no matter how cheesy it is (necro) or isn’t (all other classes). Although I do admit, watching someone with 6+ boons blow up does bring out the evil laughter.

Soul Comprehension and Gluttony already increase the life force gained, and I feel like gaining life force usually goes quite fast. Then again, I mostly use dagger-warhorn.

There’s a difference between increasing life force and gaining life force.

What’s wacky is that something so obscure and minor gets addressed before burning.

How does a completely obvious problem affecting multiple scenarios, multiple traits, and virtually all classes get no attention while something like this does.

Is there supposed to be? You gain life force from deaths and from weapon skills and from spectral skills. This has always been the way.

Yes, I feel that there should be at least 1 trait out of the 60, soon to be 72, that provides reliable life force gain, which isn’t restricted by weapon or utility choice while, at the same time, works regardless if you are in DS or not.

I would much rather ArenaNet adjust deathly chill from the reaper specialization instead of an internal cooldown on chilling darkness.

There is not a single, and/or reliable trait to actually gain life force. Not even one. No way to power the profession through traits. Reapers Precision, before it’s removal, wasn’t reliable unlike how Chilling Force will be with the Reaper Specialization. I think this is a real problem.

It does man, I tested it many times. I played 8 matches last night with PS and the transfer missed for no apparent reason at least once every match.
If you’re trying to test it on a golem, it’s not enough to just be facing away from it when you cast. If you do that it will work anyway. You need to be stunned or immobilised or otherwise UNABLE TO TURN TO FACE your target for it to fail.

This again? Provided that you are in range, the only way for plague signet transfer fails is it the target los you, dodge, evade, blocks, or goes invulnerable. It doesn’t matter if you are disabled or not.

Don't directly nerf burns - A Guardian's Plea

I’m not trying to seem like I’m not sympathic to guardian’s burn dilemma, but I can’t recall ever seeing a necro or any other class with access to a variety of damaging conditions getting them all to deal a combined total of 13k-16k per tick. Back when dhummfire was first introduced, when terror would tick for 1.5k and before necro’s bleed nerf, the average damage, with poison, was about 3.6k a tick. We all know what happened to necros after that. Can you honestly say that type of damage from conditions is ok?

Condi Wars 2

An easy fix which ill be ignored as usual.

Make conditions reduced by Armor. As of now Conditions are BEFORE ARMOR.

TO balance out the insane Condition frenzy, Anet needs to make ARMOR factor in.

If you’re going that route then just make Protection effect Conditions instead of Armor..

Or why not both? I mean protection is supposed to be the opposite of vulnerability. And vulnerability now affects condi damage.

Careful, you are about to enter the “Conditions can now Crit” zone.

Let’s see you can archive the highest buring damage in the death breakdown.

3.5K burning damage per tick on average…Not bad! Here, have a cookie.

Confusions does seem to be a bit crazy, too.

If it was 3.5k per tick, I would have never taken the screenshot. I think you mean per stack. Try 13k per tick on for size.

Edit: never mind, you meant average.

What healing are you guys using?

Jayce.5632

I don’t see myself returning to consume conditions. The game plays out at a much more faster pace now. Every second matters, and the increase in damage across all professions only reinforces this. Signet of Vampirism is now my preferred choice. The added damage for me and my teammates plus the added healing just makes it the more team-oriented option. I just had to explore other options for condition removal, in which, as a necro, we don’t necessarily lack. There is a reason why the signet build is a no brainer, at least for me. It provides good sustain with not one, but two heals. Good condition management with at least two removals of up to 5 conditions each. Good consistent (spread out, not all at once) boon-hate by corruption of at least 8 boons. The very build itself just screams attrition, something the necros have been missing for the last 3 years.

Necros, warriors thief’s and mesmers say dmg is ok now.

Ya its ok to insta kill someone.

And what is guardian op? Dying like everyone else in seconds. Complaining to guardian burn? I haven’t seen one yet.

I’m not complaining, but I can see why some people are. This below happened in almost 3 seconds. I had time to press 2 skill buttons, my stun break transfer that was blocked, and an attempted 1.25 cast heal. I was downed before the heal finished casting.
