Im totally serious and I have total understanding of the ele core mechanics. Tempest needs one change, and its the first 5s before overloading an attunement. If we can get rid of this sometimes you can even overload attunements worthly.

the 5s need to be reduced to 2-3 and the cooldown on the attunement should stay at 8.5/10. the trait that reduces overload cooldowns should get reworked to grant stability when using an overload.

you could give us examples like

etc

and we would be able to vote on what we like best and the title with the most votes will make it into the game

Putting it in simple terms, Revenant outclasses multiple classes at the same time, because it’s too versatile AND OP. Why take a thief or a guardian when you can have both?

condi chrono = dead rev.

i fought some burn guards, condi engis and condi necros during bwe2 and surviving is actually quite a struggle, it’s definitely in a 70:30 favour of the condi build. but hey, people don’t care about that stuff, if they can’t beat something they just want it nerfed, even if it has counters.

“unrelenting assault is undodgeable” and yet i always double dodged/blocked/blinded it all the time. seriously you people that make posts like this just just don’t even care to learn how to counter a new class so you rather have it nerfed instead.

I wonder how one blinds something which is evading for 2s.
Even if possible, you can only blind 1 hit from the tons of hits it does.

If you call blocking and dodging “countering”, then thieves can counter Eles now?

if you blind during the casting time all hits miss. and i said counter the class, not the skill, or can you counter pistol whip and blurred frenzy when they’re evading?

i feel like it’s fine. on sword that’s the only skill you have to dodge anyway. it has a long casting time and costs 15 energy on a 15s cooldown. if it was that easily avoidable you could delete the sword to begin with.

Rangers suck in PvP. Period. Just had another ESL without a single ranger even playing in the tournament. They are bad enough. Let them have a buggy/broken taunt, its the only thing that is remotely useful about ranger. This class is currently a laughing stock.

what i want is that they give ranger real stuff, so that they don’t have to rely on broken mechanics.. and i hope that druid will work that way. i personally enjoy ranger, more the condi one than the power one, only being able to play it “for fun” is a bit depressing. i use taunt myself on a tripple trap troll build and i see how broken it can be, it’s not viable at all so it is not op, but it’s still broken.

This is silly, taunt has actually made our pets something you have to pay attention to. You don’t sit there and face tank minions, turrets, or memser clones do ya? Kite that kitten! (it’s actually really, really easy and takes little to zero skill) If you are letting something sit in your lap, you deserve it. The radius is soooo small.

Speaking of which, if you think taunt is broken, what are your thoughts on mantra of distraction (1200 range)? ;p Or guardians gs #5? Or Moa? Warriors and Revs will have access to taunt with HoT. You posting this in their forums?

I think there is a stigma of when someone (cc ele for example) loses to a ranger, that it couldn’t possibly be because they got out-played. They will cry op or “broken mechanic” (op).

When I pvp with ranger the personal attacks (messages, map-chat, etc.) are far more frequent and far more hostile than when I am on any other class.

mantra of distraction needs a 1/4 casting time. most mesmers don’t use it for the interrupting functionality but just so that they can land their mirrorblade because otherwise they would fail at it.

guardian’s gs 5 is actually well dodgeable if you watch the animation, if you still get hit by it you can determine when they will use the pull, either after laying down the field or when #2 is off cooldown.

bringing up revenant’s taunt is ridiculous. the skill costs 50 energy, has an activation time, a travel time and can be reflected…

fyi, i said taunt was broken not that a 2s cc was op. and yes i play ele, and no i don’t lose to rangers. ranger is even my 4th most played class after thief and guard.

if you want people to take you seriously you should not mix 2 skills.. it’s unrelenting assault and unyielding anguish.

on a different note, unyielding anguish field needs to be smaller.

there is no real setup involved to this. the pet is on the target, when you activate taunt can other than trying to figure out what the ranger is gonna do next, not be preditced or dodged. the canine f2 skills were always strong when used right but there was at least counter play to them. this cannot be said for taunt as there is no real counterplay which is unhealthy for the game. i know rangers can need every little bit of help but at least in a fair way.

i never said taunt was op, i said taunt was broken because it goes through certain defensive measures which should not be the case and activates before actual pet skills activate. it’s about the way taunt works, not what it does.

Taunt do requier an active play as mentioned above.

I’m not syaing taunt shouldnt be looked at closly by the developers but i’m not confident it is OP, I think that on any scenario, it should stay on 15 sec CD and be unblockable, not sure about unevadble by skills. As a ranger that often duel other rangers I dont c to much of a problem playing around taunt, I just time right my stablity uptime and dont even bother to check pet position.

it is not predictable most of the time, you do not know when a ranger is going to cast the pet skill and taunt has no skill animation as the taunt starts with the casting time of pet skills, like with the wolf fear. you will have the rangers pet on you most of the time so activating the taunt is not as telegraphed as you want to make it look like.

wrong, first, the spider has 1 immob as f2 and 2nd the pets will always try to use their skills with the longest cooldowns first. so if you switch in a canine it will always try to use its knockdown first if the target is in range, you can very well play with that but people just don’t care about figuring out such stuff.

not every class has access to stability on demand and taunt can be very problematic for them, especially if it doesn’t let them block or evade it.

what i dislike the most about tempest is how it just doesn’t feel “stormy” at all, it’s just a bit of this, a bit of cc, a bit of that, a bit of heal. when i hear the name tempest then what comes to mind is an aoe cc bot that makes corpses fly around and people running away in fear.

bwe2 is over now and total matches on revenant: 96

during the past few days and today aswell i was playing the herald in conquest with a celestial sword/shield staff setup and i was really impressed how much fun it is to play. it is kind of a mix between a thief and a guardian with some attunement-like mechanics.

the herald is in a very good spot, let me tell you this and with a few tweaks and QoL updates i would even be willing to switch from my main ele to a revenant

(one big problem is the legend swap. it takes too long. i had situations where i died because i swapped legends but skills were not ready to use yet because it takes like 1s until the skills flipped over :/ – resolved)

the herald is strong, that’s not true for the revenant in general. i had the impression that the normal revenant was not that impressive and i have seen 2 persons play with jalis and a couple more with mallyx. there was nobody who played ventari in the ~50 matches i played during this bwe2. this should not be the focus of this thread though. what i will cover here is the playstyle ofd what i played.

now let’s start with my review:

overall the herald is quite complex compared to existing professions or even other elite specialisations and the possibilities are almost endless.

the herald (with celestial amulet) is very squishy even though i had 2700 armor and 21k health but you also get a couple of damage avoiding skills like unrelenting assault, crystal hybernation and so on. if you’re timing your skills right you can be “tanky” but if you fail at that you can get more or less oneshot by mesmers.

i had some issues and bugs and i will list them below with some suggestions:

sword mainhand

overall in a very good spot. i would not change anything on this one. auto attack is fine although the 2nd hit could be turned into a “non projectile” because the attack will not work on projectile destroyer/reflection skills and you’re kinda stuck on the 2nd hit then.

unrelenting assault is a very nice skill, offensively aswell as defensively. it is a bit bugged though. it will stop working when you’re close to a wall and if you use it on a mesmer that goes through a portal you will teleport with him across the whole map.

shield
overall the shield needs a better healing power scaling.

shield, by concept, is a very nice weapon but needs some minor tweaks for both of its skills.

envoy of exuberance
as i mentioned above, revenant is a bit squishy and i was not that keen on using this skill against marauder builds because during the time that it takes to cast and to heal, you will have been hit for more damage than it actually heals. a simple fix would be an aoe blind at the target location.

crystal hibernation
this skill is more or less a “panic button”. it is very gimmicky at the moment and you can get insta interrupted if an engi uses the chill grenades on you which is a bit stupid. a smoke field works in a similar way. what i suggest is that only hard CCs work on it, not soft cc like chill blind immob and so on. it would be fair if the enemy had to use 4-5 stuns on you to get you out of this skill.

staff

the auto attack is fine, obviously it is a bit lower than sword so that’s the only point that could be buffed a tiny little bit, like 10%.

punishing sweep
the vulnerability could be increased to 4-5 seconds. 3s is a bit low.
i never really used the daze, still need to find the right situation for it. it would be better if the toggle would flip over when you hit somebody, hitting them when they use a skill is a bit.. meh. does the skill toggle when you hit somebody who is resureccting somebody?

warding rift
perfect

renewing wave
the healing needs to be increased a bit. it is again a risky skill to use for a revenant so if it healed around 2200 it would be better. i also had the impression that this skill bugged out sometimes and didn’t remove any conditions. maybe this has something to do with blinds? or idk, it was a bit strange when it happened. i think i had burning and blind and it didn’t remove any conditions.

surge of the mists
perfect

shiro
shiro is an amazing legend

enchanted daggers
works well for more tanky builds as it isn’t really a burst heal and is best used with either burst skills like unrelenting assault and surge of the mists or warding rift.
overall a solid heal skill.

riposting shadows
hm.. this is a difficult one. i saw people complain about it because it gives you 50 endurance on use. i’m gonna be honest here, yes it is strong. BUT. as i mentioned before, revenant is quite squishy so he needs all he can get, and for the time being i would leave the endurance at 50 because the skill also costs quite a bit of energy. the maximum you can get out of it is 2x dodges and 2x evade from the skill usage in normal situations. something i noticed is if you get hit by the reaper’s shroud 5 your stunbreaks have a 1 s cooldown before you can use them to break the stun. is this intended?

phase traversal
i love this skill. it lets you be that crazy player that hunts down escaping target or lets you get to sneaky thieves that try to decap your point. amazing for revenant as a side node holder.

impossible odds
a crazy skill… very dangerous for your foes but also for yourself. it needs to be used with caution as it can backfire and you will be left with no energy.

jade winds
this one can either be a game winner or your certain death because it costs that much energy. balanced imo but could use lower energy cost for a cooldown.

glinth

facet of nature
pretty happy with both upkeep and active.

face of light
both upkeep and active find. saw people complaining that there is no tell to the active so an aura-like visual effect could help, if it’s really necessary… the heal needs to stay insta cast though as it is your counter to burst damage. if this skill gets a casting time it will be ruined.

facet of darkness
what i noticed from the active is that the reveal is not instant. if a thief goes into shadow refuge and i use the reveal it takes 2-3s until he is revealed. a bit annoying and most likely a bug.

facet of elements
both upkeep and active good

facet of strength
the active needs more damage. it hits for ~1k twice. would be nice if it was buffed to 1,5k-2k

facet of chaos
the upkeep is too expensive and needs to be lowered to -3. the active is good against downed bodies, easy to dodge normally :/ casting time could go down to 1s instead of 1.25

herald traits

tbh the adept traits are all kinda mehish.. they’re not bad but they’re not good either.
the other traits are okay and i feel like most of them are not nobrain picks but matter of tastes.

bolster fortification (master)
first the protection is not long enough. should be 5s. and second this kind of works against the glinth heal because it lowers the heal you get from the damage :/

hammer
noticed this today that the damage in relation to its cooldown might be a bit too high or the cooldown too low. especially when you’re capable of hitting the 2nd and 3rd hit at the same time it’s more or less insta 15k on marauder lol. the cooldown needs to go up to 5s and the damage needs to be lowered. also the auto attacks can hit up to 4k, if you pair that with quickness it’s overkill.

unyielding anguish
this field displaces people with stability and it kinda makes sense. i would leave it that way but it needs its size reduce then so that it is not able to cover a whole point in pvp.

if you give the glinth heal a 1/4 cast time then you will render the complete legend useless. it’s your only reliable “invul” that works against burst and condis. people just need a brain and at most the skill needs an aura-like effect to show that it’s on.

numbers on hammer need a bit of tweaking and the glinth heal could use a tell so that even people that don’t pay much attention to enemy buff bars know what’s going on.

other than that it was pretty fine. revenant is quite squishy even on tankier amulets compared to guard or warrior so the evades and blocks are what makes it durable. when people learn when to attack a revenant it will be harder for them. revenant excels at 1v1, maybe 2v2 but sustaining 1v2 is way harder on it than compared to, for example, a d/d ele.

regarding the mobility of phase traversal, it’s a good engage but useless for a disengage. you can use it twice, then all your energy is gone and you can’t do anything for a couple of seconds.

it’s funny how people got used to revenants being a free kill from the other bwe and now when they surprisingly fight back they get salty. revenant has pretty obvious tells, dodging those will make your life easier

Tempest Fresh Air Build + PvP gameplay!

i don’t want to be rude… but you were not facing a single competent player in those clips. any player with a bit of knowledge would have interrupted the air overload or simply killed you because you run no invul on (i assume) a marauder build.

also, staying 9 seconds in air is hardly what i regard as a “fresh air playstyle” in which you usually stay in air for maybe 1-2s.

the concept of tempest which encourages attunement camping just doesn’t work with the concept of a dps spec that constantly switches through attunements. i posted this several times, and i did post it this bwe again, if they want to make it viable for fresh air then they need to enable overload casting with attunement swap so that it doesn’t cancel the channel. if you can actually channel the air overload and then switch to a different attunement to reset the air cooldown while it’s still channeling, now that would be better. but there’s always that problem with interrupts or dodging. it just won’t work against players with a brain.

i’m all for fixing bugs but stuff like that is no reason not to try and balance a skill that is a bit over the top there are some bugs i encountered and i listed them in my other thread, like reveal bugs etc. but that’s what a beta is for.

landing 5-6k aoe crits with a chance on double hits in a team fight every 2s is not really balanced, that’s all what in trying to tell here. the cooldown needs to go up to 5 seconds and the damage needs a look at. this is basically a rapid fire on steroids.

your main damage comes from shiro + sword so you want to do that as much as you can combined with quickness and your heal if you need it. shiro is basically burst and glinth sustained pressure.

if you get hit by those there is a 1-2s cooldown on stunbreaks and instacast skills. is this bugged or intended? usually such skills work after a stun and in the reaper stream back when it was announced they said the freeze will work just like a stun.

i never use the protection upkeep because it’s not worth the cost at all, that’s why i’m saying they need to lower it. it basically cripples you hard if you have -5 with only 1 upkeep so if you need others it will be even worse. shield 4 and nature active provide me with enough protection for my needs.

no, shield 4 is not great. for the time it takes to complete you will already be hit for more than what it actually heals and the protection is 2s lol. as somebody said above, it needs aegis or at least a blind or weakness.

i dont need all in one build as i’m already killing d/d eles without much trouble. the reason you pick celestial on my build is not for the condi damage but for the mix of stats. you profit from everything except condi damage (well you have the burn). it’s a bit of a more tanky berserker and i’m usually sitting on 25 might in shiro with sword and the damage is very stronk :P

and idk if it’s you or if it’s me but i’m more or less destroying everything with it. the only difficult matchup is burn guard and opponents with a lot of random ccs, hello there taunt.

atm i have a win ratio of more than 60% with it in 70 games :P

i dont have problems with conditions most of the time. staff 4, legend swap and generosity usually do the job.

sword + shield with generosity/strength
staff with energy blood

devstation 223
(vicious lacerations can be swapped for aoe ferocity but i prefer the higher damage on sword)

adept and grandmaster can be swapped but for myself i prefer those. the res can be useful with an actual team but i don’t bother with that in soloQ.

you want to have staff in glinth because of energy management and sword in shiro for the auto attacks and quickness but weaponswaps but that’s not set in stone so i adapt to the situation i’m in.

you start with nature + swiftness and might for prestacking on staff.

you switch to sword for unrelenting assault and then you switch to shiro to have 50% energy. shield 4 for the sustain, shield 5 if you don’t want to dodge or for heals. if you can afford using impossible odds then do it.

in shiro i use the active of nature to get prot and fury.

when im back in glinth i activate fury and might and i put the active of elemental on point.

i have enough burning on elemental blast, it ticks for 1k/s lol.

mallyx is bad compared to shiro and glinth and axe is also inferior to shield right now. you won’t have enough sustain without it and i actually beat a mallyx shiro revenant without any problems.

bwe2 is over now and total matches on revenant: 96

during the past few days and today aswell i was playing the herald in conquest with a celestial sword/shield staff setup and i was really impressed how much fun it is to play. it is kind of a mix between a thief and a guardian with some attunement-like mechanics.

the herald is in a very good spot, let me tell you this and with a few tweaks and QoL updates i would even be willing to switch from my main ele to a revenant

(one big problem is the legend swap. it takes too long. i had situations where i died because i swapped legends but skills were not ready to use yet because it takes like 1s until the skills flipped over :/ – resolved)

the herald is strong, that’s not true for the revenant in general. i had the impression that the normal revenant was not that impressive and i have seen 2 persons play with jalis and a couple more with mallyx. there was nobody who played ventari in the ~50 matches i played during this bwe2. this should not be the focus of this thread though. what i will cover here is the playstyle ofd what i played.

now let’s start with my review:

overall the herald is quite complex compared to existing professions or even other elite specialisations and the possibilities are almost endless.

the herald (with celestial amulet) is very squishy even though i had 2700 armor and 21k health but you also get a couple of damage avoiding skills like unrelenting assault, crystal hybernation and so on. if you’re timing your skills right you can be “tanky” but if you fail at that you can get more or less oneshot by mesmers.

i had some issues and bugs and i will list them below with some suggestions:

sword mainhand

overall in a very good spot. i would not change anything on this one. auto attack is fine although the 2nd hit could be turned into a “non projectile” because the attack will not work on projectile destroyer/reflection skills and you’re kinda stuck on the 2nd hit then.

unrelenting assault is a very nice skill, offensively aswell as defensively. it is a bit bugged though. it will stop working when you’re close to a wall and if you use it on a mesmer that goes through a portal you will teleport with him across the whole map.

shield
overall the shield needs a better healing power scaling.

shield, by concept, is a very nice weapon but needs some minor tweaks for both of its skills.

envoy of exuberance
as i mentioned above, revenant is a bit squishy and i was not that keen on using this skill against marauder builds because during the time that it takes to cast and to heal, you will have been hit for more damage than it actually heals. a simple fix would be an aoe blind at the target location.

crystal hibernation
this skill is more or less a “panic button”. it is very gimmicky at the moment and you can get insta interrupted if an engi uses the chill grenades on you which is a bit stupid. a smoke field works in a similar way. what i suggest is that only hard CCs work on it, not soft cc like chill blind immob and so on. it would be fair if the enemy had to use 4-5 stuns on you to get you out of this skill.

staff

the auto attack is fine, obviously it is a bit lower than sword so that’s the only point that could be buffed a tiny little bit, like 10%.

punishing sweep
the vulnerability could be increased to 4-5 seconds. 3s is a bit low.
i never really used the daze, still need to find the right situation for it. it would be better if the toggle would flip over when you hit somebody, hitting them when they use a skill is a bit.. meh. does the skill toggle when you hit somebody who is resureccting somebody?

warding rift
perfect

renewing wave
the healing needs to be increased a bit. it is again a risky skill to use for a revenant so if it healed around 2200 it would be better. i also had the impression that this skill bugged out sometimes and didn’t remove any conditions. maybe this has something to do with blinds? or idk, it was a bit strange when it happened. i think i had burning and blind and it didn’t remove any conditions.

surge of the mists
perfect

shiro
shiro is an amazing legend

enchanted daggers
works well for more tanky builds as it isn’t really a burst heal and is best used with either burst skills like unrelenting assault and surge of the mists or warding rift.
overall a solid heal skill.

riposting shadows
hm.. this is a difficult one. i saw people complain about it because it gives you 50 endurance on use. i’m gonna be honest here, yes it is strong. BUT. as i mentioned before, revenant is quite squishy so he needs all he can get, and for the time being i would leave the endurance at 50 because the skill also costs quite a bit of energy. the maximum you can get out of it is 2x dodges and 2x evade from the skill usage in normal situations. something i noticed is if you get hit by the reaper’s shroud 5 your stunbreaks have a 1 s cooldown before you can use them to break the stun. is this intended?

phase traversal
i love this skill. it lets you be that crazy player that hunts down escaping target or lets you get to sneaky thieves that try to decap your point. amazing for revenant as a side node holder.

impossible odds
a crazy skill… very dangerous for your foes but also for yourself. it needs to be used with caution as it can backfire and you will be left with no energy.

jade winds
this one can either be a game winner or your certain death because it costs that much energy. balanced imo but could use lower energy cost for a cooldown.

glinth

facet of nature
pretty happy with both upkeep and active.

face of light
both upkeep and active find. saw people complaining that there is no tell to the active so an aura-like visual effect could help, if it’s really necessary… the heal needs to stay insta cast though as it is your counter to burst damage. if this skill gets a casting time it will be ruined.

facet of darkness
what i noticed from the active is that the reveal is not instant. if a thief goes into shadow refuge and i use the reveal it takes 2-3s until he is revealed. a bit annoying and most likely a bug.

facet of elements
both upkeep and active good

facet of strength
the active needs more damage. it hits for ~1k twice. would be nice if it was buffed to 1,5k-2k

facet of chaos
the upkeep is too expensive and needs to be lowered to -3. the active is good against downed bodies, easy to dodge normally :/ casting time could go down to 1s instead of 1.25

herald traits

tbh the adept traits are all kinda mehish.. they’re not bad but they’re not good either.
the other traits are okay and i feel like most of them are not nobrain picks but matter of tastes.

bolster fortification (master)
first the protection is not long enough. should be 5s. and second this kind of works against the glinth heal because it lowers the heal you get from the damage :/

btw any chance we can get 2 condis cleansed on legend swap with the invocation trait :P?

just give the revenant an aura, like torch 4 on guardian to indicate that the heal is active. if you give it a casting time you can basically delete herald because it will be useless.

herald is a very good dueler, strong in 1v1s but the impact in teamfights is medium. herald also dies quite fast 1v2 so in my opinion, yes he is strong, no he is not broken and doesn’t need nerfs.

herald is also quite hard to play and requires a high amount of apm.

gonna write here what i wrote in 2 threads so you have it in 1 thread:

if you cast fire overload inside of a combo field you get 1 whirl finisher for the whole 4.5 seconds casting time. many other skills with a lower casting time have multiple whirl finishers and yet this skill has only 1

still not possible to cast an overload and switch attunement without breaking the cast. please address this for a more fluid playstyle. especially for a dps fresh air build this is important because you will be channeling and at the same time going through other attunements to get the fresh air proc. a small goodie for dps eles would be appreciated.

(example, cast air overload, switch to earth, air overload still channeling, fresh air proc, back to air, air overload is about to finish, 5s till next air overload → repeat)

the new version of rebound looks good IF the cooldown and casting stay the same. how long will that “prevent death” effect be active?

okay i’m gonna rephrase it a bit. i tested it a bit now on the golems (the 3 ones) and sometimes it looks as if the animation would actually hit the golem but it doesn’t. i will try to provide some pictures but it’s a bit hard atm because people feel like smashing golems all day :P

currently the tooltip says 360 radius, that’s the actual range if i’m right. would it be possible to also provide the degree of the cone? or is that a set amount for all cones in gw2? like 90 degrees.

this skill is kind of a cone.. but the problem is that it only hits aoe at the impact range (untargeted, targeted it only hits the target). everything else is left out. could you change this skill so that it hits everything between you and the impact location? would make this skill a lot more reliable for aoe vulnerability in teamfights.

you get it per boon applied. if you get 3 might instantly it will only count as 1 boon afaik. at least that’s how it was when i tested it last beta.
