do you see me writing anywhere in my post wether i like or dislike the game mode? i simply said that it is incomplete in its current state and that i would welcome it if they delayed the release to polish it up so that we can have a good and enjoyable game mode, not something that people will play a week, ragequit and move on. if people afk during stronghold betas because they get stronghold it’s already a bad sign.

you kill it and take the point afterwards, even if the ranger can cap it in the meantime. they’re not very sustainable, have no stunbreaks if they run 3 traps and are a one trick pony.

stronghold should not be deleted as long as they improve it.

stronghold is not really a moba if you’re trying to say that. it’s basically a simplified version of GvG with npcs that break open the gates and heroes instead of flags.

soloQ doesn’t have anything to do with this and is a whole different subject, please keep it out of this thread.

if you ever played heroes of the storm, it records all your matches in a low size format (quality is very good though) and when you rewatch it you can move around the camera and look at whatever you want, pause, resume etc. if you just record your game with a program that’s not possible.

please do not release stronghold the way it currently is when the expansion releases.

The game mode has flaws and is in my personal opinion not as good as it could be, so to prevent frustration and people giving up on the game mode right away i ask arenanet to not rush things with the new game mode.

take your time to polish everything, host a couple more stronghold betas after the expansion shipped and work closely together with the players and their feedback. the worst thing would be that the company invests a lot of time into this and in the end it ends up as courtyard v2.

currently certain things are just not very optimized. archers are weak, guards die too fast, defending is usually not the way to go and transform capping of mist essence can be a pain for whoever has to compete with it. many games also end on timer and turn into a “massacre as many npcs for points” fest.

some players will maybe be angry or not understand why i make this thread but i rather have them take their time and release something that can become a competitive game mode that is worth building upon and the players enjoy.

out of all available dps builds in pvp s/f fresh air ele is by far the weakest of all. in its current form it simply lacks damage. this patch was supposed to change this, the attempt failed surprisingly.

an ele’s role is to sustain a fight.. idk why people don’t get this after over a year..
ele already lost a source of regeneration after the specialisation update.
and nobody plays diamond skin.

the brainless complaining on these forums is hilarious. instead of playing with matchups, rotating players where they have the best chance of winning they try to kill a build that is supposed to hold nodes 1v1, or even try to kill it on something like a burn guardian.

the same attitude just got ranger’s new toy nerfed yesterday. because some casual players paniced when they saw 15s of quickness or 25 might they spammed “ranger op” threads because of something that wasn’t even strong.

seriously, start using common sense and qq less.

ele doesn’t have quickness to begin with and the boons are frequent but short lived. that’s a difference.

and your salt against eles won’t get you anywhere, not like it has anything to do with it.

feel my wrath was aoe and X minutes of quickness also only works with useless runes and PvE food.

idk why people are crying all over the forums.. if you choose to build around this heal skill and boons you will miss out on many other crucial traits, and most important, condi cleanse.

this build might benefit rangers in pve but is complete trash in pvp

something that i wrote in a different thread a while ago, a little bit updated because of the recent changes: (does not only include scepter stuff)

Scepter

scepter, fire, auto attack – cast time decreased to 0.5s and less burning duration

scepter, water, auto attack – if you hit the same target 3 times, apply 1 second of chill

scepter, water 2, shatterstone – needs to become a pulsing chill field. increase cooldown to 8 seconds.

scepter, earth, auto attack – cast time decrease to 0.5s and less bleed duration

scepter, air, auto attack – instead of hitting all targets that walk through the arc this skill now connects to 2 nearby foes next to the target.

scepter, air 2, lightning strike – damage is now delayed by 0,75s (skill still instant), a little black cloud appears over the target to indicate the lightning strike. damage increased by 30%.

Dagger

dagger, earth 5, churning earth – reduce casting time to 1.5s or let us release the skill early for a portion of the damage.

Focus

focus, fire 4, flamewall – increase size or burn targets that shoot projectiles through it.
focus, water 4, freezing gust – needs a wider casting cone

Heals

heal, glyph of elemental harmony – increase healing by ~2k

Utilities

cantrip, mist form – cooldown reduced to 60s
arcane, arcane shield – cooldown reduced to 60s

Elite

elite, tornado – no more transformation. instead it summons a ground target tornado for 10 seconds based on your attunement that deals damage, knocks enemies around and is a combo field based on the attunement you are in while casting. it applies conditions to enemies and boons to allies.
fire -> fire field and burn. might for allies
water -> water field and chill. regen for allies
earth -> blind field and bleeding. protection for allies
air -> lightning field and weakness. swiftness for allies.

afaik in the gw engine there is no “all” command so they program it by using a maximum amount of possible condis/boons. they could even set it to 99 boons and it wouldn’t matter. same goes for the guardian’s elite signet, idk if it still does but it’s supposed to be a “full heal”, now to heal everybody to full it heals for 50k

you don’t have to be a champion magus to read the forums, there were many good suggestions out there for scepter. i have made multiple posts with proposed scepter changes, the only thing that got changed was the ground target on tooth.

just finished reading the patch notes

3 changes were made to scepter and i will talk about them in this thread

1. dragon’s tooth ground target:

this is by far the best change, one that i and many players have been asking for for years.

2. flamestrike damage increase by 33%

the damage of this skill was already very low because of the burning it applies, a 33% increase in damage won’t really make a difference. the problem with this skill is how slow it is. it is by far the slowest auto attack on scepter and the one i try to avoid using at all times. scepter skills need to be fast so rather than a 33% damage increase arenanet should have increased the speed by 33% but toned down the burning.

3. shatterstone 4 vulnerability stacks to 5 and 10% damage increase

tbh words kinda fail me.

the problem of this skill is neither the damage nor the vulnerability, but the fact that it is close to useless at all times. a simple 1-2s chill at the end of the skill would make this skill so much more desireable than a damage increase or 1 stack of vulnerability.

except for the change to dragon’s tooth which was a nobrainer i am really disappointed. those changes are nonsense and offend me as an elementalist player. i was expecting a 25-30% damage increase (in form of faster auto attacks, more damage on certain skills) overall, because that’s how much damage fresh air currently lacks compared to other dps builds.

you won’t be able to play a condi spec with tempest as long as not all attunements offer some kind of condition damage. can’t really see that happening, maybe with the release of the 3rd elite spec, because the 2nd will hopefully be dps sword.

Probably because you’d be charged for another one by the time it ended…

you won’t go around using overload after overload, or all you attunements will be on cooldown, so it doesn’t really matter.

i would like to have a master trait that reduces those 5s it takes to start an overload. this would be really good for fresh air builds. something like:

when you crit an enemy it reduces the time required to start an overload for 1s with maybe a 1s icd so that you can reduce those 5s to 3s in theory. when playing fresh air you usually don’t want to stay 5 whole seconds in air so this would be an awesome trait.

btw karl, allow us to keep channeling overloads even when we swap attunements right now it cancels overloads upon swapping attunement. if you enable that i can try to make a nasty dps build during the next bwe

Nobody talking about Fresh Air Tempest?

i tested it during the first bwe and it was pretty terrible.

first you have to stay in air for 5 seconds, that’s something you usually never do, the max i ever stay in air is maybe 2-3s at maximum.

this can be bypassed by just staying in air before you engage for the first overload but after that it still comes to those 5s. when you use your overload you have to stay in air for another 4s until the channel is completed. you cannot channel the air overload and switch attunement, this is something i have demanded multiple times in feedback threads, without much success.

after the overload ends (after 9s in air in total) you can switch to a different attunement, proc fresh air, get back to air and wait another 5s.

it’s slow and most likely you will have more dps by just playing fresh air the way it’s supposed to be played..

broken is not the same thing as op.. when will people finally learn this..

d/d ele is overtuned because of the bruning application that it has, combined with the stustain. while it is actually a supportive bruiser it deals too much damage.

turret engi was neither op nor broken, it was overperforming for the amount of player input that was required and was not fun to play against.

taunt on ranger is broken because of the way it works, going through evades and blocks.

target is lost when it enters stealth.

the way to kill a thief is catching him off guard. locking a thief down is impossible and stealth is generally bad for scepter.

the best way to kill a mesmer is.. well.. dodge mirror blade and mind wrack. dont let him outrange you and blind crucial skills like mirror blade, illusionary berserker or shatters.

in terms of winrations i would say..

40:60 in thief’s favour
30:70 in mesmer’s favour

matchups in general for fresh air are not on the winning end atm..

the fresh air builds on metabattle are bad and random anyway… the best fresh air build atm is air/earth/arcane with s/f. it gives you the best mix of survivability and damage.

some traits are preference, like superspeed on air instead of more ferocity. if you go with vamp runes you don’t need the arcane shield at 25%, if you go with other runes take that trait.

blood sigil can be swapped out for energy, might be smart after the vigour nerf.

carrying games is sometimes different than what you’re actually supposed to do with your role. when trying to carry soloQ games with ele it’s more efficient to go for side nodes instead of supporting teamfights. if your team members suck you can support as much as you want but if they die all the time and don’t kill anything you will die in the end aswell.

btw, not to sound mean, but ele being your second lowest winrate is not the class’ fault.

but in the end winning a match is not entirely tied to playing a specific class, you can carry to some extent but that won’t win you every match.

That is a problem with the other elite spec if they are op then they need to be fixed you should not wish for your class to be op.

Other elite specs being worthy of play without being strictly better than their base class is a problem?

A lot of them ARE better then the base class.

only necro and ranger are an upgrade. the reason for that is because necros and rangers haven’t really been in the best spot…

the other elite specs are more or less on equal footing except for berserker which needs a bit of tuning still and daredevil some QoL.

the worst 2 are tempest and dragonhunter.

no it’s not made to replace ele but it is supposed to offer an alternative way of playing, which it doesn’t.

i tested it multiple times, i give it a try every beta weekend and in the end i’m disappointed again, i give feedback hoping that it gets better but it just doesn’t.

i don’t like it, no, and if it’s not worth playing then i won’t play it. simple as that.
we’re still in beta for another month, so there are still chances.

Here’s a better idea: people post theorycrafted builds for tempest and then ele mains improve them by replacing tempest with a base d/d ele build instead.

Well d/d ele is dead in wvw and should be dead in spvp soon after the update tempest fills that melee mages roll now. You can d/d tempest.

d/d ele will be just as strong, just a bit more balanced. for wvw roaming d/d ele is very viable and when it comes to zerging it doesn’t matter what you run anyway.

and no, i’d rather pick earth over tempest anytime. overloads are terrible for d/d and the traits are bad too. cantrips > shouts.

From a real stand point d/d ele is very dead in wvw not so much base off of changes to ele but the changes to other classes ranged dps is king atm in wvw you need to be all tank to make it in melee (something tempest can do and still have a use but ele cant.) As for spvp ele is losing dmg for d/d so they must give up the dmg and take the lost or give up some of there abitly to tank. Tempest still very able to heal a good bit so it can give up some self tank for dmg.

You do understand you can still run cantrips as an tempest right? You seem to not get that every thing ele has tempest gets.

why would you run tempest traits then.. the overloads are not worth it and most of the time you will not use them, and if you use them they mess up your rotation.

d/d ele was never a damage build in pvp to begin with. the only reason it was dealing so much damage was due to imbalanced burning which has been fixed now. d/d ele is a bruiser, peeling enemies off allies and giving them a bit of heal, boons and cleanse but because it’s considered the most braindead build right now people don’t even need to know the role of the build. today i had a d/d ele on my team in ranked queue that had no clue how to do his job, all he did was running around attacking people not caring for his own teammates.

fulfilling the same role doesn’t mean they play the same…. and tempest doesn’t add anything to elementalist. it’s nothing new, it’s not interesting and on top of all it’s even weak.

It dose add a good bit to ele. I have made the list many times now must i do it every time?
Tempest adds:
Healing auras
Shout auras
A bit more stab
AoE stun brake
AoE super speed
And water field gerator for a non 2h wepon
Moving pAoE healing dmg and cc version
Auras that are not locked to wepon type
Stronger protection
Blunt endrucese gain
New buff that adds a lighting hit for your team
Boon buffing duration
Non fire blasting aoe might
An more reliable whirl finisher
More cc (mostly from the added auras)

nothing of that was truly needed… aura share builds were never considered viable because you have to give up the cleanse grandmaster in water. if you run tripple shouts with soldier runes you will still lack cleanse and surviviability with that… even if they heal you for 700.

stability is another thing that ele doesn’t have problems with and its 4s of 1 stack of stability..

the shouts are terrible, if not for the auras on them that have half the cooldown of the weaponskill auras they would not even deserve a place in the game.

ele has 6/8.5s protection uptime aoe. no reason to make it any stronger.

the whirl finisher whirls once, how is that reliable when it even puts your fire attunement on a 15s cd?

tempest right now is terrible, they even nerfed the only overload that dealt a bit of damage. tempest needs to be reworked or you will never see a single serious player picking this over base ele. perfect balance is when it makes you think “oh no, i don’t know which one to pick, both are good and i really can’t decide”. when it comes to tempest it’s more of a “what, why would i even consider it.”

i’m sure a lot of work went into tempest so arenanet should not let it have been for nothing… rework it while it’s still possible or tempest will turn into scepter 2.0 and will take them 3 years to buff.

tbh fresh air ele with focus can be quite survivable… the problem is the damage and not the survivability. scepter is clunky, that’s another problem. they said scepter buffs are incoming on tuesday so we’ll see how that works out.

the hitpoints is really a problem. cleric staff ele with 11-13k hp is not an option. rabid ele neither, nor is carrion ele with 2000 armor.

but hey that’s why ele has 3.5/5 defensive traitlines of which the ele has to pick at least 2 to survive.

oh and mesmer can instaburst more or less everything.

fulfilling the same role doesn’t mean they play the same…. and tempest doesn’t add anything to elementalist. it’s nothing new, it’s not interesting and on top of all it’s even weak.

What made DD Ele OP was the combined effort of damage and sustain. They decided to nerf the might stacking and damage part. They probably want it to remain a bruiser and a bunker but not dish out so much damage.

If you want a damage Ele, I suppose going for the scepter fresh air build is the way to go.

people tried to run it, one of them was zoose. it was terrible and suddenly there were no elementalists in any tournaments for around a year, 99% of queue matches were 0 eles in both teams and IF you played fresh air ele you got flamed for it. good old times /sarcasm

if you want a lot of healing -> go staff ele -> check
if you want a mix between cc, healing, mobility and damage -> go d/d -> check
if you want burst damage -> go s/f fresh air -> maybe check on tuesday

now comes the problem:

what tempest should be -> heavy cc and damage
what tempest actually is -> a mix of bad support, bad damage and mediocre cc

If you want heavy cc and dmg you go staff ele.
There not one eliet spec that comply mod how a classe plays a gurd always had ranged dps a necro could always melee dps a ranger could always support a thf could always spike? or spam dodge a war could always attk fast a eng could always melee / leap in or be tankly and i guess a rev could always be support thought that one is odd becuse rev and its elite spec are coming out at the same time.

staff ele is not heavy cc… neither works the damage part against non ai. staff ele is zoning at most.

and for the rest of your post… i don’t even get what you’re trying to tell me.

Its 3 hard cc and 2 soft cc that and its the best dmg ele can out put due to how AoE works. The thing is heavy cc dose not go hand and hand with high dmg in GW2 you are tankly and have high cc or your mobility and have high dmg. Its the give and take of GW2. I too want tempest to do every thing and any thing but i still want ele to be relevant in the game.

As for my other post is that there really nothing new that been added for all elite spec just more on the lines how they go about it. So ele can do every thing in the game but stealth unless you intend to give tempest stealth there nothing new for it to do. What tempest is doing new is how its going about to fill its roll though overloads and auras.

So ele d/d mostly can constant heal even if ppl are at full hp so there a lot of waited heal and that heal is locked to water only. Tempest is able to do this constant heal but is able to push its heal out put high for the cost of healing over time. At the same time tempest is not locked to water being the only real healing tool.

you’re not getting it. staff is a aoe denial / zoning weapon. the skills keep you in/out of a certain location, they are ranged and i repeat, staff ele does not work as a dps build in pvp at all.

what tempest by theme should be is the ele’s approach to the warrior’s hambow, working with elements and knocking around people. hambow damage was mediocre but the stuns were good, the mobility was bad and the sustain above average.

and the heal that tempest offers is boring and insignificant with the auras, you can just take a shoutbow warrior and it will do a better job at it. ele doesn’t need more healing specs, there is already enough of it.
