I feel like she popped up out of nowhere, and they never really explained what she is….just that she was from the concordiant houses or something like that…
anyone have any insight?
So, I’m trying to find what to switch from signet warrior to.
At lower levels, the +precision from the trait in the arms line is pretty OP, but at later levels i’m assuming it’s not as great to be using….so what is the preferred build to switch to as a heavy power/precision build with a greatsword?
I have now rolled a warrior, mesmer, ele, and guardian to try and forget about my ranger but I really enjoy the playstyle of the ranger. It’s also, extremely hard to give up on spending well over 100 gold trying different builds/gear to be successful. However, it is a complete bummer to try and use pets successfully in WvW; where I spend most of my time. I don’t think giving rangers a 30% buff to make up for the pet is viable b/c it will break PvE. However, a small buff and a passive pet might be something that wouldn’t break PvE and greatly increase rangers effectiveness in WvW. Anet needs to either figure out if they can fix the pet AI (to hit moving targets) and do that or move pets to a more passive role for rangers. What I mean by passive role is more like spirits where they apply certain boons for the party. The ability to call on the pet could be tied completely to a cooldown or it could be tied to something similar to how warriors build their adrenaline. Also, it’s crap that a thief can cloak off of our pets and keep us in combat speed. I mean it is very hard to escape a bad situation b/c pets do not respond well to the return f3 function and others abuse the ability to keep the ranger in combat speed by hitting the pet.
wow Togo that sounds amazing
they could change our “class mechanic” to pet CD’s instead of the pet being out ALL the time, and they could make them beefier and/or immune to damage while they do damage because they are on such a long CD….but buff our initial damage the actual ranger since the pet isn’t out all the time like it is now
although i would feel this could be like mesmer clones, except they would be out longer and you don’t destroy them to do damage
i think it would be kind of cool working up an adrenaline or “tuned to the wild” bar for your F1 pet or F2 pet….and then calling him in to do damage for like 30 secs or so…and perhaps tie in a 10 sec buff for certain pets….ie fury for cats
seems pretty legit to me
I’m all for rangers having pets, it makes sense we shud have them.
My ranger…first character I leveled and only character i “mained” in GW1, hasn’t been touched for a good while after seeing how much more useful a Warrior, Ele, or Thief is in each aspect of the game.
but could they at least give us an option of being petless with a 30% dmg buff across the board on our skills, until they can get pet AI and/or Mechanic right? (assuming the pet does 30% of our dmg like i have read)
I’d much rather be useful now AND later….rather than just later.
I know it would anger a lot of people later on who are forced to have pets again, but if you have the mechanic and AI down, there would be a lot less moaning later on than there is now.
So I just got my Ranger to 80, and got her all geared up in exotics(don’t really care for ascended) and it’s time to level my next character in the offtime.
I really only have an interest in one of the following three classes:
Elementalist – I really love the D/D setup, and is probably the way i would level, but sometimes i forget my weapon swapping, or in this case attunement swapping, making me think it will hurt me tremendously in the long run.
Warrior – I really like the greatsword warrior, and i have heard the signet build is super easy to run, and you’ll hardly ever die, however I don’t want it to get too redundant, and the Warrior forums are acting like the end of days has come for them, but I think that is mostly for sPvP or WvW, and not PvE.
Necro – I would really like to level a necro, minion master, build, but after leveling my ranger, i fear that the frustration i had with ranger AI pet would be even worse with 5+ pets running around.
It’s funny because i go to the class forums trying to see which class is in a good spot, and they say go the other one.
Go to necro forum, they suggest going elementalist for casting, ranger for MM.
Go to warrior forum, they suggest going ele for burst.
Go to ele forum, they suggest going to mesmer because it’s 10x easier to play, or going to warrior for burst.
So I know you can do this for an elementalist or Mesmer…but can you do it for a Ranger or Guardian….
I could have sworn I seen a guardian walking around with glowing eyes…but it might have been his helmet skin.
It seems like Condition Power is 100% the way to go with a Shortbow build….i have been trying out the Power/Precision glass cannon build and it is kind of sucking.
If i get more than three things on me, aka risen in Orr who run faster than the zombies in 28 days later, they take me down pretty easy simply because I am constantly evading rather than dishing justice.
Also…they just completely ignore my pet….i’ll send my pet in to attack them before i even touch them, my brown bear will swipe at it, it instantly runs for me sending me into evade mode rather than justice mode.
I am currently 75 though, running with merchant gear on, so maybe the build gets better with full Berserker gear on.
So would building defensive + condition be better, or stick it out with til i get berserker gear?
oh…i did not know that! still the white wings would be much nicer than the gold wings…but beggar’s can’t be chooser’s
edit: nvm, the seraph bow is white wings, thank you all for the help
(edited by Jordo.5913)
mmmm….well, when my ele went through ring of fire, it was all henchies and no heroes….only prophecies was out….
so i would have had to paired with a ranger who didn’t mind putting winter spirit on his bar
I’m a Norn….btw
I don’t believe it does, and the skin item is soulbound….so i would have HAD to get it on this character….FML
time to open a ticket!
So i just get done doing my level 47 personal story quest which gives a sweet shortbow skin for my ranger….it is the Avenger Shortbow that looks like the golden seraph bows, but is white.
I was stupid and didn’t realize they offer a longbow on those same sets of rewards, and picked longbow instead…..and my build does not use longbows at all
is there any way to re-do that quest, or am i pretty much screwed, and have to get another character to 47?
It is sad, i would’ve loved to choose which path you get to take….the march to Jormag or the march to Zhaitan….though i could see Zhaitan not getting picked much lol
Titans…Oh god the titans….Ran as a minionmancer (oldschoolterm) and then the final missions decided to make my build worthless lol.
On topic: I find 50-80 much easier than the previous levels ironically, there are more events and overall action. I don’t mind the risen because every mob in this game behaves the same: Run to you, attack, random control attack. Range remains ranged.
If there was a variation in enemy attack patterns I might care more.
lol, i remember leveling my fire ele in GW1, once you get to ring of fire, you are worthless because the titans had fire resistance….so you HAD to learn another build….i cursed quite a bit that day
So we raised this guy in Nightfall, and I’m sure we will hear from him again, somewhere down the line.
This bro is an undead lord and commands all kinds of undead, and currently runs things in Elona.
With Zhaitan dying and an army of risen still littering Orr without a “master”, could Joko come in and perhaps try to take over Orr with an army already in place, it is actually connected to Elona, and is not very far at all from the Desolation part of Elona, where Joko resides.
Or maybe he absorbs that army into his own in Elona and becomes more powerful and we see him in an expansion?
I think i remembered in an interview sometime pre-launch, that what is stopping Joko from trying to conquer more land, is that Zhaitan was in the Northwest in Orr halting his progress, and Kralkk was to the North in the Crystal desert halting his progress. With one of them gone, will he try to seep into Tyria?
(edited by Jordo.5913)
Anet turned the Charr into a playable race, so turning Mursaat into one is possible although highly unlikely imo. I always assuned we would see them again, if only in very small numbers, and maybe only Lazarus (with whom i, like probably many other players, have a score to settle). But evil nature does not stop Anet, one just retcons stuff away.
And about the Charr and Ebonhawke, it feels like Anet will not let another war happen between Charr and humanity. From the background information it would seem to be likely that the Charr would seek new enemies once the available ones are defeated, but it is still a long way till then, and the ingame perspective is “we all become big friends with one another”. Cooperation between different races and organizations and overcoming differences for the sake of a greater good are some of the main themes of the game.
The Charr were not villains though….if anything Humans were more villainous than the charr. When humans arrived in Tyria, they basically made camp in Ascalon and pushed the Charr north, and said get the kitten out. The Charr are just trying to take back what is rightfully theirs, thus causing the seering, and then to get back at the humans, the sinking of Orr and the Gods. Humans are just too stubborn to “lose”, when they have a place in Kryta to call their own now.
well this thread is getting pretty serious, so i guess i’ll chime in
in PvE, you have to understand…if people are level 80, they are doing one of three things….Dungeons, Fractals, or in the level 80 zones
your also 8 months into a game, so the only people your running into are altoholics, and this game shuns people who want alts atm…which means there are going to be a limited number of people in each zone that is meant for leveling……if your trying to play at 3am…its going to be dead….if your playing at 7 or 8pm, it will be much more populated….
but ur still going to have to announce an event is going on….most people do this by linking the nearest waypoint and giving directions from it….then most of the people in the zone will flock to your location to help
Something like BoA gear in WoW would be nice….it’s basically just a 60% increase in XP across the board.
Double XP weekends could be another thing they could do. They used to have double Rep weekends in the first guild wars.
We need something in the gemstore for leveling from 1 to 80 at a certain cost.
Buy gems, convert to gold, buy mats on the TP, craft all the way to 80.
its like 8g for Cooking, Jewelcrafting, and Artificing….15g per for the other 5….so your looking at about 107 gold to level a character from 1-80…..which if the rate of 1g 72s for 100 gems atm, that is roughly 6221 gems, which would cost you 85 bucks irl money
@ the OP, i find 1-30 to be much more fun that 50-80….all those Risen zones can go back to the depths of the sea for all i care
but yeah, just craft some stuff…..cooking, jewelcrafting, and artificer are all pretty cheap
I’m sorry Arenanet, but your zones are A++ up until around level 50+. After that it goes downhill fast except for the last Norn zone and Mount Maelstrom. The zones are nothing but risen after risen after risen….i literally want to shoot my head off, and become a risen myself. It is actually a nice breather to go to the last Norn area and fight some of Jormag’s minions or Mount Maelstrom and fight some destroyers. Not to mention it is around level 50 in the personal story when Trahearne gets introduced, but i feel that has been ranted about enough.
I know Zhaitan is supposed to have an ARMY of undead at his disposal, but you have to break it up now and again.
Luckily, Cooking, Jewelcrafting, and Artificing are pretty easy to level up meaning 30 levels are pretty easy to get, as long as you have a nice chunk of gold, or are able to farm the mats.
So thank you for providing alternate ways to level up!
well we know that the lava is going to look like!
god o god i hope this guys castle resembles a bowser castle
we don’t even have world’s 2-4 yet though
another one is when you are defeated…you get the black silhouette of the big boss’ face….similiar to bowser’s silhouette in Super Mario 64
I believe World 1, Zone 2, Section 1 is a Lost Woods reference from Zelda
also throwing stuff in King Toads mouth could be a reference to throwing the vegetables in the big boss’ mouth in Super Mario Bros 2
I really hope I don’t have to wait until next year this time for worlds 2-4, I want to save the princess!
Thank you Josh, for this amazing jumping puzzle!
This is sweet!
Thank you for making this! ^^
So I would like to dual wield swords….and i believe the only classes that can do this are…the Mesmer and the Warrior….
so anyone with knowledge of both classes, which do you prefer?
yeah they did good with some of the skins being transferred over…but they dropped the ball on some of them, there are plenty of other nostalgic skins they could put on the gem store
i could not think of a single person who would say this is a bad idea….
the problem with earning them in game is, a lot of people spent time in guild wars 1 earning these items….i remember just saving up enough plat to buy a chaos axe in guild wars 1 took me well over 2 weeks….so i’m not sure people would want to re-obtain them that way….
thus the gem shop is the way to go….just don’t do the terrible RNG Black Lion Chest event
they did do stuff for easter in gw1
mobs would drop chocolate bunnies and golden eggs
but u used those to get the Sweet Tooth title….which is not in this game, so no idea what they would do
If you did some research you would notice that there are WEAPONS IN GW2 that you can get from the MYSTIC TOILET that resemble GW1 WEAPONS and these weapons require materials that are fairly expensive.
So putting weapon SKINS that resemble GW1 weapons in GW2, obtainable with gems, would be a CHEAP SHOT
I used to use SHIFT but from now on I use CAPS for CAPITALS
yeah but im talking about the MOST popular skins….the Chaos Axe, the Storm Bow, Chrysocola Staff
the stuff people spent time farming because they looked so cool
then you have all the old Asuran, Undead, Charr, Norn, and Tengu sets of weapons….then you have Mursaat, Tormented, Opressor, and Destroyer….they did actually keep Destroyer Weapons….so who knows they might do a bundle type thing for the gem store
i’d have to say i would most look forward to Tengu weapons, i think every single one looks kitten
i’d say this would be a legit way to make money on the in game store….a way for old gw1 players to get some of their nostalgic items….i would happily pay for them
I don’t know why you guys haven’t done this yet for the in game store, you guys would make a killing.
Just revamp old GW1 skins
You could have them come out in packs:
Asuran
Norn
Undead
Mursaat
Charr
Tengu
Tormented
Opressor’s
or even bring back some of the more popular ones….i would pay 10 bucks for chaos axe skins….and would prob buy 2 for my ranger and 2 for my warrior
i could see the problem being, that people would prefer the GW1 skins over any skin in GW2 though…just for nostalgia purposes
this also lets people who never played GW1 and that are playing GW2, a chance to wield those cool weapons
i agree staves in this game are boring….they did a much better job in gw1
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Staff
some of my personal favorites were: Ensorcelling staff for mesmers…..and then Deldrimor Chryscola and Tengu staff for all
i wish they would add old GW1 skins to the in game gem store
they would make a killing off the old Asuran, Charr, Norn, Tengu, Undead, and Mursaat Weapons
though adding in some old bad boys would be cool too…i’d pay 20 bucks for 2 Chaos Axe skins
mmm…i just logged on to get some coins before hitting the sack, and got 1 coin out of each of the 3 jumping puzzles in LA
there was a grand chest, magnificent chest, and a splendid chest
How is having 189 gold relevant to your question?
You don’t need to justify how you spend your gamegold to anyone.
If you want to farm the keys, go for it.
I don’t think it matters whether you gave 20 copper, or a billion gold
to get rid of the “dude, just buy keys with in game gold” replies
well…january we had gender change, february was hair features change, march we get name change….maybe april we will get race change
i know i would buy one in a heartbeat….the coolness of being an asura hit me about 55 levels in…and i really didn’t want to re-level the same class
Jordo. The amount of logical fallacies in that post is overwhelming.
thanks :<
i mean, they could just plop it on the gem store as an outright buy….but then everyone who wanted it would get it, and would actually stop a lot of people from trying to get it, because they want to be a special unique snowflake and have an item that not many can get
this way, the lure to pull people in is stronger because…those special snowflakes know many people won’t try to get them due to the RNG part…and will actually go after them harder
who knows, they might add a thing at the end of this, and people who have all the achievements for each part of Frost and Flame, will get a free fused token to use
kinda like the Pact Token when u beat the game
Put in new content that requires a time to do it: “OMG GRIND”
Put in some actual content: “Too little, want moar”
this is what i’m hearing….
though Anet could find some middle ground…..not 30 days of grinding…but not 1 days worth of content…
i’d say about 7 days of doing something i should be getting the reward i’m looking for
This is not about giving players who like to gamble something to work for. It’s about Anet taking advantage of those people to line their own pockets.
Gambling addiction is a disability that Anet should not exploit off of.
uhm, last time i looked, Anet is a company…and a company wants profits….
imagine with me, a land in which Anet gives everyone as much gold as they want to buy stuff in the in game store….or a way to get every skin in the game
how much money is anet making…to continue their plans of delivering content every month?
zero
that means NCsoft starts laying people off to cut back on labor
you guys want content, which doesn’t just come out of thin air, but you also want to aim the crosshairs at anet every time they try to make some money
Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.
Haven’t played gw2 in a few months, looking forward to it.
Cheers.
let this thread DIE!
it was 4 months ago he said that….nothing has changed lol
if gambling isn’t for you….avoid it?
it is meant for the people who enjoy gambling and getting the reward…there are skins that you can get that look about the same as the fused weapons from the CoF dungeon….
there are hundreds of skins you can get doing other stuff…just find what you like doing and do it….
for instance there is going to be a jumping puzzle on april 1st(rumored date) that you can do that will allow you to get skins….people who hate jumping puzzles will be mad…so they will avoid it
^ Don’t give it away!!! At least put that in a spoiler tag, geez…
I removed it ^^; As soon as I posted it I was like wait a sec… But I mean, are those weapons only available to be acquired for 1 day only? That would kinda suck. Also I notice they’re in PvP too. Hopefully, again, not for just 1 day.
i doubt it is for one day only…..this jumping puzzle, if it is the jumping puzzle that is rumored, has been worked on tremendously since launch…..i don’t think they would waste all that manpower for just one day, it will probably be a permanent fixture
you can also get continue tokens to “add lives” by completing other jumping puzzles, and that part is actually live right now….so you can stack tokens before april 1st….
which makes me think, this jumping puzzle is going to be hella hard, or they are doing it for the “super mario effect” where you can continue and you get 5 more lives
another thing…the little asura is named Moto….Shigeru MiyaMOTO made super mario, the little asuran looks asian to boot!
man…tybalt is such a low rank in the order though….that he can get away with not being so serious….its kind of like your “rookie” stage….but seriously, in the end, tybalt even gets serious and does something that makes you respect him even more….
though it is sad that the development of that single character, beats the development of every other character in the game….especially Trahearne, that guy makes me want to shoot myself
the fact that people don’t want exclusive skin drops of X boss is ridiculous….do you realize that if you just randomly get any of them , you will probably sell it on the AH for crap loads of gold, and be able to buy a skin that you’ve wanted for a long time
they already have these exclusive skins for world bosses, i don’t know why they aren’t in the dungeons….for example Final Rest on Shadow Behemoth….
the good thing about the tokens…is that if RNG is failing you…there is a backup plan to hold you over until that rare skin finally drops for you
and if you call yourselves “diehard” fans…GW1 DID have this…chaos axes, dryad bow, violet edge, saurian scythe……were all skins that you got after completing the dungeons of Eye of the North
i can’t tell you how many times i ran the Rragar’s Menagerie dungeon in GW1 trying to get that kitten Dryad Bow….which is now a Hall of Monument achievement for this game
but really, i didn’t care that it wasn’t dropping…i always had something to do in the game every day i logged in…i knew i was about to run Rragar’s, and if it would have ever dropped…i probably would have kitten my britches….i would run other dungeons hoping to get that rare skin so i could even trade for the dryad bow….i had something to work towards
and don’t tell me to go waste 7 months farming a kitten legendary that doesn’t look cool, nor could i care about effects….i want a cool looking, plausible skin for my character, not a kitten unicorn shortbow that shoots rainbows
I have waited 6 months for the release of Polymock, ever since I saw a place reserved for it in Rata Sum.
I LOVED Polymock in GW1, even though it did feel a little like pokemon…it was still tons of fun!
Then you guys went and added some Polymock figures to that Tenanera’s Pit(Arenanet Pit) in Lions Arch….which made me think that it is getting close.
So whats the dealio on Polymock, is it still in the works?
P.S. Think about all the things you could add to the vendors in the game, by bringing this to the front!
I am an old GW1 vet, had like 1000+ hours on a Ranger and my alt was a HB warrior…so i figured it was time for a new class going into GW2.
I chose the Thief, and by no means was I disappointed. Very fast paced, always on your toes. On top of that, you look like a kitten flipping around Yoda style.
Yet I have come to a crossroads with my thief on stuff to do, so it is time for an alt.
I would like a trip down memory lane, so I have leveled the two classes that I am interested in to 20, one being ranger, one being warrior. Since my Thief is a condition build, I would like a Power/Precision build this time around. Both Shortbow Rangers, and GS Warriors are very good at this.
So I leveled both of them to 20.
At first, playing the warrior is taking some getting used to. On my thief, i’m jumping around like a ninja, and attacking extremely fast. On the warrior the main skill, HB, requires me to stand in one place while attacking, and it seems like I attack soooooooooooo slow. I also do not like having a % movement increase signet like the thief or ranger, makes me seem like I am slow on top of attacking slow, unless I just haven’t found it. I am also worried that if I go for too much DPS or glass cannon, that being melee will suck. I have learned to dodge on my thief, but you only have so much endurance, so there will be attacks you have to absorb.
I have thought about maybe going A/A or S/S or something else in weapon swap to make up for the GS being so slow, are these viable?
Is there a % movement signet im just not seeing?
Will I be able to sacrifice some damage for toughness/vitality and still feel like i am roflstomping like the Hulk, or is glass cannon warrior viable if build right?
I am an old GW1 vet, had like 1000+ hours on a Ranger…so i figured it was time for a new class going into GW2.

The ranger was fun and I felt like I was strong as hell, but I am not so sure i like the auto attack spamming, while putting spirits down whenever they come off CD. The 2 skill is a condition skill, the 3 skill is an evade, and the 5 skill is CC, so the only one I felt the need to keep on CD was the 4 skill. It seems a little boring. I also do not like seeing my pet go down if something other than a regular mob stares at it, actually im gonna be blunt and say i hate the pet mechanic altogether since i didn’t use it in GW1.
Is auto attack spamming with a shortbow while putting spirits down and hitting the 4 skill basically what I’m gonna be doing when I ding 80, with the occasional Rage as One elite skill when i need it?
I have a thief that I would REALLY like to switch to Norn, possibly Human, i liked it as Asura at first, but by 50 or 60, i was kind of bleh about it, but didn’t want to make my friends wait while i leveled another one up got 50, so i just took it to 80
i don’t want to really waste two character slots, but i don’t really want to delete the character and just delete all that playtime and exploration….
so…any word if race changes will get put in, seeing as how it would be a profitable thing to put in the cash shop, i know quite a few people that pick a race they like….only to find out they don’t really like it
As a GW player, here’s my take.
I enjoyed GW’s “deck building” skill system. I loved the lower level cap, and all of the tightly-focused balance that brought. I liked the “less is more” approach of runes, again they were tightly focused and balanced. For some masochistic reason, I kind of (not wholly) miss Vanquishing. And I greatly miss heroes. Heroes gave me a chance to play around with classes I never intended to play.
I prefer the sideways progression of gear in GW, but I dislike the vast number of useless or redundant skills. The writing I find equally bad in both, but I like the little touches and the presentation more in GW2 more than in GW.
In everything else, from the combat mechanics to world exploration, I think GW2 trumps GW. For me, and this is of course just my opinion, I think GW2 is the better game by a great many miles.
yeah, i’m suprised i miss vanquishing as well, it seemed i loathed it at the time….and for some odd reason, i miss showing off by doing Drok’s runs too, plus them tips were sexy
it does seem there were greater combinations of “builds” in GW1, i think i had Interrupt, Condition AoE, Condition Single Target, Dmg Single Target, Dmg AoE, Runner, Pet, Spirit Spammer, Off monk specs on just my ranger….thats 8 builds for one character….in this game i have 2, Power or Condition
