Zero. Even the boxed game itself was a gift from my guild leader to me. I don’t intend on buying anything from the cash shop ever either. That may change if they add useful, fast, and cute mounts to the game but till then, no dice. Better things to spend my cash on.

Guess I should just ask now, are future worlds in the SAB going to be like IWBTG (I wanna be the guy)? Because that took me a long (and mostly frustrating) time on normal mode to finish kitten that apple at the end). I’d hate to think where I’d be if I tried the most difficult mode with only the 1 save point. :P

Hmm if this dodgejump thing is ping related and will in the future be a requirement (or strongly suggested) for hardcore mode then can I suggest placing the grumpy cloud (who I’m guessing is the gatekeeper of hardcore mode) in a place that requires a dodgejump to get to? That should be a clear indicator if someone should be using that mode or not.

Also I’m guessing hardcore mode will be like, 0 spare lives, no continue coins, no checkpoints and only 1 heart plus super aggressive – no leash monsters (machine gun snakes with limitless range that shoot on more than one plane), a rising floor of lava (complete with lava shark), and a creeping black wall “chasing” you from behind (insta death if you touch it). Don’t think I’d clear stage 1 with that. ;P

I’d like to be able to choose what reward we get. I for one don’t really care for skins all that much but gold? Man I love gold. Easy for others to get but not for me. I seriously make 10-15 silver at best on a -long- session. Give me an option to pick gold over a weapon skin and I’ll be a happy camper.

If that’s too economy breaking then at least let me be able to sell whatever the reward is.

Soo… the bad guys are -not- meant to disrupt the good guys? I for one think this is an excellent example of where the molten alliance should be messing with their enemies (us). Ideally they put more interfering stuff around, though granted the spawn that comes with the periscope should be region friendly (no level 80 champs in Wayfarer’s Foothills for example, they can use instanced stuff to go nuts with that).

I think it is dependent on your character size and have noticed this most right at the start of stage 3, when you finish jumping over the man eating plants. For my big norn, big charr, big sylvari and small asura (who is resized to be big – just like the big guys are resized to be smaller to fit the character “cube”) the frogs immediately aggro as soon as I hop onto solid ground.

For my main who is a slightly shorter than average human (and thus not resized from what I can tell), he can reach the first checkpoint without aggroing anything – giving him a slight advantage in the box. Or he’s just really sneaky. :P

Just wondering if anyone else was getting this. Noticed this happening a few weeks back and it seems to happen when a lot of stuff is going on in GW2 (exclusively), usually in the middle of combat – all other MMO’s I play are fine.

What happens is freeze… monitor blinks out (black screen) for a second or two, then comes back. Not all the time, but often enough to be annoying. This has also affected my brother’s compy to a worse extent in that he can play GW2 for a few minutes before it just crashes out (probably different issue, but still graphics related). He can play hours on end (and I mean +12) of L4D2 and such though so it’s not likely the hardware.

Guild bounties - bounty hunt time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Joseph Skyrim.2470

Joseph Skyrim.2470

All of the missions are designed to be completed in the fifteen minute window. The pre-scouting methods were never used by the testers. Most found it far more efficient to start the mission and the search the map by dividing up our efforts.

Some of the new bounties are designed to actively encourage this approach instead.

You telling me your testers tracked down and killed 6 diffrent targets within 15 mins? that sounds completly unrealistic unless you have upward of a hundred people searching at the same time.

Try 30.

My question is were they doing this cooperatively or competitively? Both tracks would have needed to be tested as both are what is in-game now.

Mordremoth – The Stuff of Nightmares
Totally stealing whoever posted that this guy is associated with the Nightmare Court. He will best work as another story arc, involving mind controlled / crazy folk speaking about Cthul.. I mean.. Mordremoth. :P After extensive investigation the player and his party will enter a it’s lair – a dungeon instance, probably Nightmare Court related and at the end get “brain whacked” by Mordremoth himself, throwing them into a Mad King’s clocktower type jumping puzzle wherein they have to jump up a helix of floating platforms while escaping the ever increasing fog and avoiding dragon fire (he’s flying around shooting at you). Every so often a larger platform is reached and the dragon will land for close quarters combat. In the nightmare he can do all sorts of wierd stuff, maybe even summon the Mad King. If the party can’t kill him quick enough it’s back to jumping up the helix to the next big platform before the fog reaches them. Upon the dragon’s defeat the party wakes up to find the -actual- Mordremoth, a weak and old creature easily slain in the waking world.

Kralktorik – Crystaline Grudge Match
This one also works better as a story centric dragon. The Pact gets wind of where the mighty Kralktorik has fled (after killing a few people including Snaff) and Destiny’s Edge wants a piece of him. Ironically so do you (literally) as Kralk’s crystal heart may actually be able to kill Jormag (it can somehow “shatter” him). New map, no way point as usual full of branded scum and a dungeon instance (set piece, sorry) to trigger the battle. The “dungeon” is exactly the same as the overland map pretty much, just that Kralk is flying around the whole map causing chaos. Many many pact forces and emplaced guns to help though, which is good since Kralk will be summoning Shatterer dragon type helpers every now and then. Ideally most of Destiny’s Edge also bites the dust in this battle, leaving the player “commander” as the last hero standing.

Jormag Finisher – Heartbreaker
Has to be done right after a Jormag Skirmish event (above), the player must chase the dragon into a deep cave solo-dungeon (yes I lied earlier when I said he retreats to somewhere you cannot follow :P) and provided you defeat all of the ice brood or whatever he has guarding him you then face the weakened winged monster yourself and basically have to use Kralk’s sharp body part on Jormag’s heart (which you may have to use normal combat to expose first) and then shatter the ice dragon for good, taking its heart. Note: If you kill Jormag, you can no longer participate in the Jormag Skirmish instances on that character.

Bubbles Finisher – Depths not so Unfathomable
Almost the same as the Jormag Finisher, this has to be done right after a Bubbles Skirmish event (Above), the player chases the dragon into a deep cave (party allowed) where they have to navigate past Karka and whatever other minions Bubbles has down in the deep. Finale is basically getting up to Bubbles to make her swallow Jormag’s heart, freezing her insides – then the party can shatter her into tiny little bits. Once you’ve killed Bubbles you can no longer enter instances where she can spawn for her Skirmish event.

Primordus – You won’t like him because he’s Angry
kitten off that you’ve slain his siblings Primordus starts causing earthquakes and sending destroyers and just generally trying to end the world. Reaching his lair is much like the Jormag Skirmish event of a really long escort quest and provided the squishy npc reaches the destination, he opens a path into the lava/volcano/cave/whatever into a new area (no waypoints as per standard) and the doorway remains open for 10 minutes for anyone and everyone to use. After that time, people outside cannot enter though people inside can leave. Primordus has no adds. It’s just him in a huge chamber of lava and jumping puzzle like stones that drift around. He flies and breathes fire, knocking people into the lava and then lands on larger platforms for melee, after which he breaks them (they become stones again) and he flies around.

Given that I see him as a “final” type boss, anyone that dies in this chamber cannot be revived and are immediately warped out to their home city’s medical facility where they find all their equipped gear broken and their level reset to level 1. I was initially going for permadeath but I think that would cause a strain on the character names server. ;p

How do you want to fight the Elder Dragons?

Joseph Skyrim.2470

Actual answer:

Personally I’d like to see something like the following:

Zhaitan Skirmish – As it is, with the airship and Arah Story mode. :P

Jormag Skirmish – King of the North
Starting with an escort event from Hoelbrak all the way to the top of Frostgorge, players must defend a pitifully weak elderly Norn who happens to know how to melt the ice pass that leads to Jormag’s hunting grounds. With the pact still busy keeping the Risen at bay this is purely a player event, though maybe a handful of sacrificial norn warriors can come along. Provided the elderly guy reaches where he’s going he opens a path to a new map which everyone can access… for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the pass blocks up again and people cannot enter. Those inside the new area can leave though but may have a hard time getting back. It is important to note that there are “zero” waypoints in this new region. Access only from the escort event whose window is anywhere once a day.

The new map is a large wasteland of ice with not many mobs, even the ice brood don’t like it much here – however they all have infinite leash (will chase you forever). Furthermore the entire area is covered in a blinding blizard like the frost fractal. Anyone in the blizzard suffers cold damage over time and is chilled (like Claw of Jormag’s breath) unless they are near a lit campfire. Campfires are scattered across the map, but can and will be put out by mobs. Jormag and two of his claw lts show up. The entire map is Jormag’s playground and he can and will fly up into the thick snow and reappear elsewhere. He also doesn’t need to summon adds since the usual spawn will fill that role. Defeating Jormag won’t “kill” him. He just flees to parts you cannot follow but it is enough to get his treasure chest, clear the area of the blizzard, and rescue all those norn women he captured. This also leaves the door open to face him again later, provided you haven’t done the Jormag finisher quest (below). If you have, this place is a different instance of rainbows and unicorns for you. ;P

Zhaitan Finisher – He didn’t quite die. Again. Yet.
Trahearne (ofcourse – it’s HIS story) learns about Zhaitan’s survival through a dream / the pale tree or whatever and accompanies you with pact forces (go Destiny’s Edge) to storm Arah Path X [party dungeon]. After smashing through the risen and maybe a pair of Sunless ones the injured and weakened elder dragon (can’t fly) manages a surprise attack gruesomely killing everyone’s “favourite” cabbage. Stock standard combat can follow, with people just trying to avoid the front part of Zhaitan and his silly adds until he “dies” more permanently. Maybe Zojja freezes him, or Garm turns him into a chew toy. Whatever.

Bubbles Skirmish – Terror of the Deep
The Pact has decided to try reclaim the Quaggan capital deep beneath the ocean. 2 new expansive and purely acquatic maps should be added – neither of which have ANY way points, filled with all sorts of sea dwelling baddies and dynamic events pertaining to the Pact’s quest. On the further map, Bubbles can appear anytime once a day and must be fought off to hold the Quaggan capital (with destroyable / self repairing structures for more epicness). Defeating her just makes her flee into the unfathomable depths, but does leave treasure!

Hey there ANet, good to see a new subforum for this topic finally emerge. Thought I’d just put up a quick post on something I’m sure (hoping) that your story-tellers know and the topic title pretty much sums it up, and what I’d like to see when you take this idea forward.

If you script out the plot too much then the story isn’t really “alive”. It’s on rails. Example: Bad guys appear, harrass npcs, players should start thwarting them, bad guy boss shows up, players kill boss, event reward. End.

Cool. That’s the bread and butter adventure. Sort of like your Karka event.

Better example: Bad guys appear, harrass npcs, players investigate only to find out Bad guys aren’t really bad – town NPCs have been encroaching on their land and being generally kittens. Players can fight on either side, or try stop the fighting through peace. Whatever the outcome has to be reflected in the game permanently.

What was that? The players exploded the black citadel? Okey dokey remove all the npcs and replace them with corpses. Throw in some ascalonian ghosts for good measure. Alternatively, the players wiped out that ogre clan? Cool. Remove those overgrown dead kittens from the map, put a monument to their slaughter somewhere with the name of the highest ogre killer (player) displayed for all to see.

You can even vary the results per server which would be more awesome.

Too hard? Too many varying things to test with limited resources? That’s fine too. There are ways around that like having an ingame ballot where each account (or character for realism) gets to vote for a period of time (a week say) on a major course of action. In the above instance it could be:

a – side with the not so bad guys
b – side with the not so good guys
c – work for a peace treaty
d – lets play them off against each other then wipe both out for epic loot

Once the votes are tallied you then know which way the majority of your players want the story to progress so go that way (ofcourse you have to produce the results of each ballot so the tinfoil hat people don’t get all emo). It is still up to each person to participate in the events that follow anyway so if option D was chosen in my example, the stalwart defenders of good could just sit out of whatever kittenly trickery was to happen, missing out on potential loot and a potential karma hit (set karma to negative maybe) for scummy participants.

If you ever actually get your guild vs guild system running then maybe the stalwart defenders of good (temp guild for event) can even try stop the scum dudes (temp guild for event) and their nefarious plans.

Anywho, just voicing suggestions to help your living world become a reality.

Sounds promising. I’m sure it’s still going to be under art of war though which in itself blows for non pvp guilds but it has to follow suit. No point putting the training mission outside a tree the main mission is sitting on.

They’ve specifically said small or new guild this time. I can only hope it still nets guild accreditation (or if not, then a truck load of influence) and has a different set of people to hunt other than the ones hunted by the army-size guilds. Not that it would stop them from running “training missions” anyway, but you get the drift.

On a more negative note, this also means they aren’t changing the “you must unlock guild bounties first before other guild missions” thing, and if it isn’t changing in this patch (unlikely) or the next then it will probably never happen.

Ettin – very obvious and slow overhead smash.
Bear types/Deer types – dodge if they rear up on their hind legs.
Boar types – if they stand still for a bit with a shimmery effect they’re about to charge in a straight line.
Bats – have a slow circular “dive bomb”

You can still participate in Guild Missions. Several large guilds have put out calls for public Guild Missions. You (or the OP I guess) should look into it.

Hmm someone should take initiative and compile a list across the servers when the “big guilds” are running this stuff. That would probably be a useful site.

Didn’t think the general public got good rewards for participation though.

I found the article about gw2 today. It was posted yesterday March 12th and addressed multiple concerns. One of them was guild missions.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpinchefsky/2013/03/12/has-guild-wars-2-become-too-complicated/

Cool. They respond on Forbes but not on their own forums. That’s just hilarious.

Here’s a possible good midway point for the small guilds being to small to do it vs big guilds being to bored with it. Scale the content to the total number of members within the guild that starts the mission? I know I mentioned most of this previously but hey, here it is again.

So a guild of 5 would have bounties at 5 times their strength, a guild of 500 would have bounties at 500 times their strength (regardless of how many people are currently active). Alternatively just scale the start cost based on the guild size – 5 man = x5 influence cost per run. 500 = x500 influence cost per run. Easy.

Also for the love of god, don’t make bounties be wandering the whole kitten place until they are activated! If killed or time runs out make them despawn/turn invisible.

When activating a bounty check to see no other guilds currently have them active. If no bounties are available then just fricking say so. 15 minutes is not a long wait.

Also who decided that guild things have to be unlocked in order? Stupid call whoever you are. Go eat a flaming cat (flame legion are tasty).

And even if you ignore everything else I post, can ANet please respond here instead of on various other sites that are totally unrelated to GW2? Sure forbes and reddit maybe hip or whatever but you know where people look for GW2 stuff? On your own kitten webpage. Lyssa confound you.

1.) Started with friends, then found many cool dudes on Gunnar’s Hold. Hopped over to a german server to look around for a bit and their PvE areas were totally empty so I went back. (no wonder they dominated WvW)
2.) Dragon events in WvW, or maybe a day of peace with no fighting. Mass dance party will get me there too.
3.) I don’t like dungeon runs so I don’t particularly care about the benifit.
4.) Partially. 7 gold in 2 hours you say? For me that’s around 20 silver in 2 hours if lucky.
5.) Don’t care for legendaries, nor do I care for anyone that has them.
6.) They aren’t asking you to PvE. Don’t ask them to PvP
7.) My guild doesn’t need recognition, it’s not like we’re trying to prove anything – are you?

Tsk tsk. Seems Bounties weren’t well tested (or planned) from what I’ve been reading. Shame everyone -has- to unlock it and complete it before moving on to other guild missions. Since I’ve already commented on the overall arching issues before (and have had zero response to my questions, thanks Anet) I figured I’d put some thoughts into fixing the bounties themselves.

First suggestion – do not ever have your few bounties visibly walking around the open world (make them stealthed and untargetable) until a guild activates them for a mission. Basic stuff guys. x.x

Second – maybe better to have a secret -instanced- lair for each, which would only appear on bounty activation instead of wandering bounty themselves. Jumping into the instance is only permitted to members representing the guild that activated the mission. This would remove the scaling issue of having large groups of dancing people show up out of the blue.

Third – if a guild already has a bounty on someone then until that timer expires no one else can get the bounty. If all bounties are being hunted then just bloody say no bounties available at the moment, please try again in x amount of time. 15 minutes isn’t a long wait.

Fourth – add bounties. 15 is a little low (compare it to the number of guilds on any server). Seriously. Hey, if you have them in little instances they can even have minions. Instances don’t need to be unique between them either, cycle between three to keep the work load low – they only need to be one or two room zones.

Fifth – have you read some of the crimes that these guys have commited? Around half don’t really warrant chasing. Least of all with a 50+ man team. :/ Flavour text, super easy to change. Sure you can have the odd funny one or two, but you can still make them mass murderers or serial killers instead of overpowered jaywalkers. That’s just me.

That’s all for now. Maybe I’ll come up with more after reading more posts about others experiences with this content. Minor benefit of not being able to access it for a long time I guess – maybe it’ll be improved by the time we reach it. :P
