Basically you throw a grenade at 5 dudes bunched together you can hurt them all, but if you throw a grenade at 20 dudes bunched together you’ll only hurt five at most.

Welcome to the magical world of Tyria. Lol.

I hope it is offset by having monsters AoE do the same – like… if Jormag or the Sunless one breathes at an army of players attacking his feet, he should only be able to hit five of them. I don’t mind stupid mechanics, as long as they apply to everything in the world.

Kinda enjoying the dredge/flame legion alliance though it would be nice if the refugees were a bit more talkative about their problems. Being on the slow boil is fine for me, however I can only hope it doesn’t culminate in one large one-off lag fast event that isn’t even available to my timezone.

Would also be cool if there were “hidden” objectives we didn’t know about, like if no one was actively looking for clues in dredge/flame legion areas that makes it harder for the players later on. Also, as with all events – there should be a real chance of failure though if the main plan is global domination that may be pushing their luck. ;p

Instead of your third, I’d start awarding Guild Credit/Merits for doing large meta events successfully with a full guild party. Still unpopular, but would permit people to skip around Bounties if they really wanted to.

Hey, now that’s a good idea. Beginning to wonder if any of these posts are even being read though (by Anet). >.<

. . . you’re the developer. You have the game as it is right now, and you have a problem with these large 500-person guilds acting like they’re the only important thing in the world and anyone not with them should get out of their way.

How, exactly, do you fix that?

And don’t take the easy way out and say “roll it all back / take out the guild missions”. Solve the problem as it lies.

My (no doubt unpopular) fix #1 would be that upon completing a guild mission, the total amount of guild credits are -reduced- the more guild members there are. What!? That makes no sense!

Actually, if you think about it – it does. Bounty example: 2 outlaws on the run. 100 people chase them, they get 1 credit each on success. 1 person chases them, and somehow succeeds, he gains 10000 credits because obviously – it’s more awesome (he’s probably Batman).

Another (more unpopular) fix is that the bounty missions scale to the guild size. Regardless of how many of them are actively participating. A guild of 5 with all members participating have a better chance of success than a guild of 500 with 10 participants (quest is still scaled against 500, may not be a good idea to continously recruit then).

Those two were to try offset the income of guild credits vs influence. My next (still unpopular) fix is to negate guild credits by awarding people who don’t switch guild representation for x amount of time automatically gain them or not have the other guild missions locked with guild credits [on top of influence] to begin with.

I’m curious how multiple groups and guilds can coordinate effectively in game without any effective grouping systems? Many of the bounty missions require more than a group (5 people) to complete. There is actually no way for more than 5 people to group except for the commander and squad system, which is ineffective for guild missions and some specific WvW content. Even if you try and use the commander and squad system for guild missions, you still can’t see where the guild members are located in a zone, as only people in your group show a unique color. Using the C&S system also invites every single player in the zone to join your guild event.

Would it be to hard to have a couple of modifications to the C&S system?

1: Unique colored dots for everyone currently in a squad, visible in all zones.
2: Ability to “Hide” the commander pin from allies, but anyone currently in the squad still sees it. Basically it would become a private squad.

The lack of in game grouping systems and customization for guild or private events is really noticable now since guild missions have been implemented. Having to use 3rd party voice programs is not a great option, but the only one we have.

Good suggestions but for now I think you’ll have to rely on guild chat. I think shift clicking (haven’t done it for awhile so pls check) on the map also puts one of those red beacon things for a few seconds that anyone can see which may help.

Discussion Ending Post:

I created a guild of 5 people for the purpose of trying to understand things from the perspective of people in small guilds. We cleared our bags and began farming CoF path 1 for 2.5 hours. (We can speed clear in about 6-8 minutes, but even for newer players doing it in 15-30 minutes is fairly easy). After completing 20 runs, we exchanged tokens for ectos and sold them to the highest buy orders on the market. We then pooled our gold together and had just over 73g – enough to buy 36500 influence.

I’m not sure where people are coming up with “years”, because that is just not the case if you exchange gold for influence. After this little experiment, my conclusion is that the guilds who are complaining are just not willing to put in the effort.

Nice work Kuzzi, your crew is very effective. Good suggestion about tokens for ectos too. I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for your post.

My friends vs new content. Sorry, but friends win out each time. That’s just me. Maybe I’m wierd.

I have a question regarding this. What if your friends came with you to a bigger guild?

Hi Heijincks! Sorry it took me awhile to reply but here I am, replying (more than I can say for Anet :P). Seems you have caught me out here. I suppose if all of us move to a bigger guild that would be ok – but very hard for me.

If we abandoned the guild that means I would have to shut down our website, and end our 13 years of recorded history because in effect we would be no more. It’s a very sad thought, especially since ANet seems to be pushing us this way. Don’t think it will come to that though because as long as there are as still steadfast members (and there are) we’ll just forge on by ourselves.

Can’t speak for the others but personally I’d prefer all my influence to help my own guild instead of aiding another or worse, just leeching from them. I will assist the big guys in hunting down their bounties if I come across them though regardless of reward or lack thereof, simply because I hope that when it’s our turn people will help us too.

Of course, that’s just me. For others, for whatever reason, leaving their small guild might be too much of a sacrifice.

In my case it’s loyalty. My friends vs new content. Sorry, but friends win out each time. That’s just me. Maybe I’m wierd.

Just to clarify – I’m not annoyed big guilds can do the content now, I don’t even care for any ascended junk. We’ll get there eventually too, but having to complete a mission that doesn’t seem to scale well to lower numbers (bounty hunt) before being able to do one that’s more favourable (trek) is what is irksome. Especially since the mandatory mission (bounty hunt) is under the most useless research branch for us. This would have been the best place to put guild vs guild missions instead but I guess that’s not going to happen.

Everyone is time poor. So when it comes to game night it will be: Hey should we all grind influence in GW2 to be able to do the missions we want some other time in the future or simply play a different game where we can all get to the content we want now? L4D2, Torchlight 2, Mabinogi, UO, WO, CoD, Dungeon Defenders, Vegas2, hell even Castle Crashers… lotsa choices. Just saying ANet isn’t really making it attractive enough with their current system to pursue over the rest.

(you know ANet is doing something wrong when we play Castle Crashers over GW2 – lol) :P

Anywho, on the off chance I feel like grinding, any tips for non-dungeon gold generation? WvW and dungeon content really doesn’t suit me so if I’m to grind, I’d better grind effectively. Selling mats at trading post I guess?

Just a rough thought that came into my head. I think every week/(insert time frame) a member of a guild does -not- change representation to a different one, the guild (and maybe the member) should be rewarded. Guild commendations maybe?

Actually I think I’d be ok with it if the missions did not need to be unlocked with more than influence. Bounty hunting needs yes, lotsa influence – but the others seem to also require guild merits that can only come from bounty hunting. Stupid design in my opinion.

I wish ANet would also add some guild related features on the guild panel, like last login date and time, last representing of this guild date and time, how much influence a member has gained for your guild individually, and other guilds your members are part of.

Btw Anet, you created this thread to respond to our questions and worries. I’m still waiting for answers to my questions and there are are many others also waiting for a response to their concerns… Given your forum has quite good moderation I’m going to assume you’ve kept up to date with all these posts so I expect a reply within a few hours. I did ask my questions -yesterday- after all.

Yeah, I’m not gonna hold my breath.

With the introduction of these quests you also really need to DEFINE what a “guild” is to you. Because to us it’s a small group of tight knit people. To the game it can be even one person. To others its a large mass of anonymous folk. When you say this content is for “guilds” it’s rather ambigous. Before it was ok. But now if you are specifically making content for 10+ people, perhaps you should disallow “guilds” to exist with less.

Or better yet, just scale your content accordingly.

The overreaction is frankly, hilarious.

If people in small guilds want the new content that badly, why not just buy the influence? It’s a cheap workaround if everyone pools in a bit of their money.

It costs a total of 73g to get the 36500 influence needed for Art of War 5. If the guild has 10 people, that means 7.3g per person.

The complaint is that we need Art of War 5 at all, for pve content. Also, seven gold is quite pricey for some people (that’s like my entire bank account). :P

Compare it to say Wizardry Online. I’m actually thinking of buying the soundtrack to that game because it’s so epic. Mabinogi is another one with good tunes – sure not as grand and sweeping (though some are) but very memorable and right away can be associated to a place.

And here I thought the guild missions would rope me back into GW2, instead I basically find just another reason to grind (influence dump). May not have been so bad if people were only allowed to join one guild per account but with people scattered all over with fragmented loyalties I think your system is just a failure waiting to happen.

Putting pve content down the pvp research tree doesn’t really make sense. Hey if you had guild missions that pitted guild against guild then this is probably a good line to put it on but I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict you’ll put that on the diplomacy line because you obviously like making players play the game in ways they dislike to reach the content they are after.

Yikes, man – I’m getting so negative in my old age. Sorry! Ok ok devil’s advocate with some less aggressive questions then:

If a guild starts a quest – other random people can join. I think I remember reading that somewhere which means the quests are in the open world. My question is, if the other random people complete the objective because the guild were not as skilled or not as many as the “guests” (say a small guild mission is invaded by large guild), does the initiating guild get anything for the gazillion influence points it lost to host the thing in the first place?

Similar to the question above – do the “guest” players get rewards for helping out in another guild mission (they aren’t part of),

If the quest is started concurrently by 20 guilds does it cope by randomizing the areas or will there be overlap where the guilds may actually have to fight for objectives/prizes?

How long does a mission remain active once started? Indefinitely? I ask because it would be cool if the mission can’t be finished by team 1 but team 2 who live in the next time zone can wrap it up.

What parameters are there for turning off a quest without finishing it after it has started? Team wipe? Leaving the area? Logging off? How many quests can a guild run simultaneously?

Are there any planned guild quests in dungeons?

Are there any planned guild quests in WvW?

What exactly -are- the rewards for guild quests anyway? Just a rough idea – you don’t need to put specific %. Does each guild member get the reward based on participation or just by simply being in the guild (logged off) is enough?

Guild jumping puzzle mission sounds instanced. Hopefully not? You have lots of good jumping puzzles around already.

I’m sure people are going to enjoy your guild mission content regardless – doubt that list will include myself or my guild any time soon though.

Getting a team might be easy on your server runeblade, but that’s not the case everywhere for every timezone.

Seera – I’ll go ahead and take your idea one step further, though it involves leaving the current dungeons as they are.

They should make a soloable training dungeon whose reward is based on the time it takes you to complete, diminished by your level and gear (or maybe just stats) then divided by the number of people inside the instance with you. A solo lev 1 will be able to get the best rewards if they finish it fast, but they’ll have trouble finishing it fast because of their low level (as opposed to player skill).

A 5 man lev80 team may be able to wipe the whole place out quick, but due to their already high ratings get worse rewards than AC (which I’m assuming has the worst rewards of the dungeons?), resulting in maybe only 5 coppers each for their trouble. This is to make it anti-grind.

As a bonus, people like me that have hard times finding parties and then getting thrashed inside the dungeon can actually practice solo without having to ruin the day (and burn up the patience) of up to 4 other people. Eventually even a casual player should then gain enough know how to run the -real- deals.

Easy way to make current content hardmode is to make it that people entering those instances can only use non upgraded basic level gear.

Also everytime they die and respawn at a waypoint they lose all their currently equipped gear, a level, and a skill point. If they have 0 skill points then it untrains their skills and takes it from the remaining pool. This can be avoided if they are revived on the spot.

Thanks Cantur, unfortunately my machine had no new updates other than GW2 downloading something prior to me getting the problem. However there has been a development!

Last night I decided to clear out some space on the HD and defrag my machine (just because I wanted to). I was about to go to bed when it finished but decided just for kicks to try out GW2 again. There was a new patch since the loader downloaded something (not very big) then I did the usual login and…

I got to the character screen and got into Tyria! Wait what? So I’m not sure if it’s to do with the patch (maybe) or because I made space (probably) or because of a defrag (unlikely) or I just got lucky. It was too late to do anymore testing at that point so I just logged out and went to bed.

Just thought I’d post incase it helps anyone else getting the same issue. Will update again when I get to test it out more, I’m hoping it was a space issue though.

For 14 weeks the game has always let me in just fine – today out of the blue it decides that after I get past the launcher – I should go to a black screen that goes nowhere. No music, no character selection, just a hand mouse pointer.

Poked around and found this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Black-Screen-Issue-Nvidia/first#post3964

My settings were already correct but I re-saved it anyway and tried again, no luck.

Then tried Mabinogi just for the hell of it, and got an error complaining about my video card. Ok, cool – must just be me I think to myself. Uninstall the driver, reinstall via safe mode, restart compy and hey Mabi works again. Sweet. Log in and out of there a few times just to make sure and it all seems good.

Try to start up GW2 again now, still black screen. Hmm. Retry Mabi – video card error again. Ehhhhh. Restart compy. Mabi works again. Tried renaming that .dat file as suggested elsewhere for GW2 startup solutions. No luck.

Any ideas on what I should try next?

How to make dungeons more attractive? A few suggestions:

a) If you are willing to do an overhaul, make them open instances (at least the explorable modes) that everyone goes into, like any other map zone. You can do all those path events with your already set Dynamic Event system.

b) Make them scale to number in your party so people can go in solo and come out victorious with solid gaming.

c) Make story mode more rewarding than explorable, but only let each player “lead” story mode for a dungeon ONCE. This will encourage people to run Story mode more, as the pool of people that can lead teams in will dry up. As for rewards I’m talking maybe Precursors can drop from Arah story.

d) Consistency with trash. A regular outside I can kill with ease. Same dude inside (not silver or champ) takes an insane increased amount of damage. Why? If their loot table is the same as the dudes outside, then make them the same strength – just boost their numbers. You want to keep them strong? Fine, each should drop GOLD coins on death. Otherwise they really are just something to skip over, like feces littering the dungeon.

e) A side query – can an arenanet team (5 players) actually keep all the good guy NPCs you escort through a dungeon alive all the times without them needing ressurection? If the answer is no then you should rethink their AI too. Having to revive them is… lets just say immersion breaking, so either make them die permanently or don’t let them come along at all.

f) Fractal level segregation is stupid. Sorry. Let the teams choose whatever level they want to run right off the bat. Agony should be modified to control this. It shouldn’t come from AoE attacks or boss special abilities. It should be if you are standing there even not in combat you are DYING THE ENTIRE TIME. Slowly at first, and at the higher levels your life drains down pretty kitten fast unless you have the ascended gear to counter it. At the highest levels, there should only be enough protection (in total) to slow down your death but not stop it entirely meaning everything is on a timer.

g) How many times do you have to GRIND a dungeon to get a full set of armor and a weapon? If you do story and each path once you SHOULD have enough for everything. Unless you want to, you know, intentionally drain the fun out of dungeons and make people have a grindy experience (which is what is happening now).
