Tanky Support Build w/o GS

For quite a while now, i’ve been moaning to myself because i was under the impression the warrior had no skills that granted a decent amount of Vigor, the signet doesn’t count, because that’s crap, but i’ve only just noticed the warhorn skill, i guess i must’ve just overlooked it and got all 5 skills then dumped it, but anyway..

I’m looking for a resilient build that utilizes the warhorn/something & something else, however after choosing the warhorn, i’m really not sure what would have good synergy with it. Also when it comes to the second weapon slot, i’m not sure which weapon would be best to keep out most times, i’m stuck deciding here between a Longbow, or something/shield, but again, i’m stumped, i’m also not sure how i should trait, i love my banners though, so banner regen is pretty much a must for me, i’ve grown quite fond of those in Dungeons..

Any information, could a build utilizing the warhorn be viable? It seems the majority of builds are built around the gs.

Remove Transmuting.

Because there are a lot of problems with transmuting an item onto a piece of equipment which you’ll eventually upgrade and lose the previous transmute, why not just remove transmuting altogether, and add a new equipment slot called “Appearance Slots”? Anything placed in these slots will overwrite your equipped gear, but only the appearance ofc.

As much as I enjoy this game, I recommend to all my friends and family NOT to purchase Guild Wars 2. Not only does Anet do nothing about people griefing ‘newbs’, its largely a celebrated part of the game. Not only does it require a mere 2 votes to kick a member you are not allowed to vote “no” so you can do nothing to stop it. If you get kicked from a group, hopefully you remember their 15 character names perfectly, because the group chat will be deleted from your chat log when you are kicked.

I was kicked from a group merely for trying to defend someone who had not done the instance before, and needed an explanation. They voted us both out right before the boss died. We received no chest, no boss loot, no end of dungeon reward which is another way Arenanet facilitates griefing. The business model of the game is you pay 60 dollars upfront, and hopefully the other players make you miserable enough that you want to quit. Seems like a downward spiral to me.

“Hey friends and Family, don’t buy the game because you’ll get kicked from dungeons, it’s not like we could all group up together and them either, sorry. Don’t buy this game.”

And business model? This game is 4 months old.

WOW Didn’t even get a decent Vote-kick system until at least 4 years after it’s release.. So i think you should stop over-exaggerating.

I agree. Like the “defend Maggs” part, this one also needs a do-over with the new system in place.

Wait….are you serious? The defend Magg portion is SO MUCH EASIER NOW. No one died in my run last night of path 2. There is no need to rez rush that event now. If you still need to rez rush that part, then you need to L2P. Or quit GW2, because obviously you haven’t learned a thing in your time playing.

To help you out…..just AoE all the regular mobs that spawn and then make sure you and your team are focusing Assassins as they appear. That’s it. It’s that easy. Only way to make it any easier would be to have no mobs spawn and just sit there and wait on Magg to arm the bomb.

You vastly misunderstood what he said.. He said that THIS Event, the one the OP is talking about, needs to be changed like the Defend Magg one was..

Don't eliminate "Res-Rushing"

Which means you actually have to dodge and work together which emphasizes teamwork.

You can do every single dungeon without dieing if you learn the encounters.

Other games don’t have rez rushing, how many raids or dungeons have you done where you beat bosses by endlessly dieing and rezing? Because I can’t think of any I’ve personally played.

Rez rushing is a crutch for bad players who don’t actually know how to play.

witch helps them learn the strats cause they will learn over time what to do. having to repair armor was bad enough but now this… not being able to get back into battle is bullkitten

It doesn’t help you learn strats, it gives you bad habits of not learning strats because you can run back in.

You learn strats by completing a fight from start to finish, even if you have to wipe while doing so.

You don’t learn strats by getting “multiple lives” and taking twice as long to kill things because you have to keep running back.

It’s not wrong, you’re just bad at playing the game apparently.

I was actually looking at your posts in the other thread you’ve posted in, you’ve not been able to provide any concrete evidence as to why the previous res rushing tactic was legit and didn’t need removing, you’ve also resorted to calling everyone who disagrees with you a “fail” and an “Elitist”, effectively insulting them, and then you assume that by me saying you’re bad at the game, is also an insult, it may be an insult, but it’s also apparently true.

If you can only clear a dungeon by Res-Rushing, then you suck, and greatly need to improve, i’ve done many dungeons without having anyone wipe once, BEFORE the change. So it’s easily possible, because a lot of these were done with pugs, you’re either on a terrible server, or you yourself are a terrible player, sorry, but that’s the truth, now as you seem to say every single time you post a comment. “You know i’m correct so just agree with me and move on.”

No, please do eliminate it.

Using Kohler as an example like you did, if 2-3 players are downed, you use onw of the two remaining players to grab kohlers attention, pull him away from the downed ones and the other one helps res them, if you all die due to kohlers AoE, you don’t deserve to kill him until you learn the mechanic, and adapt.

Many classes have abilities that can be used to Resurrect a player instantly without being near them, if you can’t use this properly, then again, you don’t deserve to win the fight, if you use it, and then the player it was used on instantly gets downed again by another of Kohlers AoE, then he needs to Improve, Res rushing isn’t a tactic, it’s a zerg, it basically enables the most brain-dead of groups to get content done that they shouldn’t be able to do in the first place.

What if, for each level 80 you had, they each received a laurel identical to the one you achieved on the character that finished the daily/monthly?

For example, say i have 3 level 80s, i complete the monthly on one of them, each of my 80s gets 10 Laurels each, these Laurels are bound to each alt, and they cannot be traded across characters, would this work? Or just cause problems?

It’s been out for a few hours,chill……aren’t they making it so you get a choice of dailies to do each day or something at some point anyway?

If you order a meal that arrives cold, tasteless and disgusting, do you wait a few hours before you give your comments on the meal?

Well if they had been working on the meal for quite along time,and most of the food was great (everything in Orr) I wouldn’t nitpick over some minor mistakes or a personal dislike of a certain food……because that’d just make me sound ungrateful!

If you aren’t happy with something, you voice your opinion so the supplier can attempt to improve what they’re doing, you need to grow a backbone if your argument is “it makes me sound ungrateful.”

Should I start complaining that to get 100% map completion I have to go into charr lands? Or to get 100% achievements I have to play the charr story and buy some charr cultural gear? Because I hate charr and I avoid them like the plague.

There’s a bit of a difference there, considering how Laurels are going to be pretty much mandatory if you want any sort of progression in this game and getting 100% map completion on a char is merely for achievements.

Apart from the fact that map completion is mandatory to get legendaries, the only confirmed equipment that will always be boosted up to be best in slot.

And soon achievements will get you laurels too.

They are as mandatory as dailies are.

But you don’t HAVE to do the map completion on a Charr, which you stated you didn’t like. Your argument is now null and void.

You can’t say my argument is null and void because you are incapable of reading. Go learn to read and then come back to read the rest of my post.

To get 100% map completion you have to run through charr zones no matter which race your character is.

To get all achievements you have to play as a charr to do the charr personal story and to get the cultural armour.

Charr zones = about 2 or 3 which are easily doable anywhere from 2-3 hours.

You were saying you didn’t like Charr zones OR the charr story maybe you’re the one who’s incapable of reading. You do NOT need to be a Charr to get 100% map completion, the achievements are for show, that’s it. Laurels will be mandatory if you want to progress.

People like me? It was removed because it wasn’t working as intended, the second post even posted the quote.

Teaching people mechanics? “Hit this button then sit and wait til the mobs low and leech the killing blow with a finisher” Yeah, that’s teaching people how to play the game right huh.

With the implementation of the new dailies, i’m now FORCED to do content i do NOT enjoy.

Underwater combat, I despise it, i avoid it like the plague, i’ll only do it if it’s mandatory, when the hearts done, i’m out, if there’s an event underwater, i skip it, i do NOT like underwater combat. But now i’m forced to do it? That’s not something you should push on your players.

The Combo Killer, this needs to be changed. Flat out, i doubt anyone would disagree, and if they do, they’re probably masochists, this daily is god awful. It needs to be changed to something like “30 or 50 combos used” not 10 combo KILLS, because it isn’t clear what it does and doesn’t proc on, it also doesn’t mention that the kill needs to be done with the finishing proc, so if it’s a burn, it needs to be from the burn.. This is a bad design, remove it.

To all the idiots saying “Errr dont like it don’t do it”

Let me put it in lamen terms for you.

Since release, i have been playing how i have, i’ve enjoyed it, i’ve not badmouthed the game, i’ve not said “No this is a bad patch” i’ve not done anything of the sorts.

And then this one comes out, which pretty much says NO YOU HAVE TO PLAY LIKE THIS.

No. You don’t do that to your consumers. Let ME Choose how i want to play, and don’t penalize me for doing so because you felt the game needs to go in a direction it really didn’t need to go in.

Want to add more variety to Dailies? Sure go ahead, give me the OPTION to get my daily done with different tasks, but don’t FORCE them on me.

No thanks, what you’ve suggested isn’t a fun mechanic, it’s a pain in the kitten i’m by no means a casual gamer, but i don’t want to waste hours of my time only to have it backfire due to a simple mistake or perhaps even a Disconnect or buggy mechanic (Which GW2 has a lot of at the moment with Dynamic events not working as they should be)

If my gear breaks, i want to repair it, and get straight back into the action, i don’t want to spend ages getting back to where i once was, games are played for fun, not to be a chore simulator, if you want an even bigger essence of challenge, don’t do a Dynamic event if there’s more than 1 person there, or partake in an event while wearing nothing and using level 1 weapons..

Supportive Ranger Build, need thoughts

So i had this idea, and all of this is theorized, i don’t know how well it would do, it’s merely something i thought would work well.

The build is simple, support your group as much as possible with as much Regen as possible while keeping yourself alive with a mass supply of dodges.

The short bow is chosen due to it’s fast firing speed and additional evade.
The second weapon is (Imo) debatable, i personally feel the build would work well with a Longbow or Axe & Warhorn.

The longbow can provide an effective burst of Regen via the 2 Ability, but the Axe provides more AoE dps via #1 and also provides more group boons with the warhorn.

I couldn’t decide on which Weapon sigils would be the best, so i went with what i felt would be most suitable for this build, namely Fire on the shortbow for some added AoE damage, and more supportive Sigils (Heal & Condition removal) on the Axe/warhorn, though i feel this ones open to debate).

For the armor Sigils i went for the best boon duration increase i could get and clerics jewels for the added healing and a bit of toughness for those hits that do land on the ranger.

The pets are fairly simple, i would say Fern Hound is a must, the second slot could be either a Brown bear or a Red Moa, with the Moa you can pretty much keep fury up indefinitely providing your allies have a way of generating fury also, where-as with the Bear you can remove 1 condition every 25 seconds, personally i feel the Moa is better.

Now remember, this is all just theorized, i don’t know if this build is useful, it’s just something i came up with.

An Idea for Illusions

As we all know, currently when you end a fight with a single NPC, all current Illusions die.

My idea is instead of bounding the Illusions to the Enemy NPC, how about bounding them to the player, this way after finishing combat, you still have the illusions with you, however, out of combat, you lose 1 illusion anywhere between 5 to 10 seconds until you re-enter combat.

How would this affect the Mesmer, would it make them too strong or be a QoL change?

Hey Guys, so after reaching level 80 with my Warrior & Guardian, I’m looking to try a non-melee approach to the game, with that said though, i have a play-style already in mind.

I’m hoping to be a sort of “Support” build, providing conditions & whatnot for my team & the enemies, and I’ve narrowed my choices down to either Mesmer or Necromancer, as i feel they can provide what I’m after. I love to solo, and i was able to face-tank quite a lot of champion mobs on my warrior with the build i was using, i don’t expect to do this with a Cloth wearer, but to be able to solo champion mobs with the right build and gear (and skill ofc).

I have no experience with Mesmer or necromancers that can help influence my decision, i have played a Mesmer to level 5 and a necromancer not at all.

I’ve browsed the Mesmer & Necromancer forums, and I’m still unable to make a choice, it seems the necromancer is built more on debuffing the enemy with vulnerability & bleeds/poisons, where-as the Mesmer is built more for PvP with confusions having a bigger detrimental effect on players than NPC’s, leading me to believe that the necromancer is the better choice, but I’m still unsure.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Pasive cooldowns

Would be nice to also have the option to toggle cooldowns on other weapons / Attunements / kits, There’s plenty of room for more UI additions, so it would be nice to have the option.

Banners and Idiots

I don’t have a problem with people picking up my banner and using it to attack the mob i placed it down for, i mean they’re gimping themselves, but i’m still getting the buff of the banner, and if they’re having fun using it, i don’t mind..

What i DO hate however, is when i’m regen specced and some tosser comes up, picks my banner up and runs away with it, THAT gets on my nerves.

Sturdy Class w/ Supportive gameplay?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been playing GW2 for a while now, and even though i’ve been playing pretty much since release, i’m still unsure on which class i want to focus on fully.

I’m mostly after a build that’s focused on being difficult to take down if played right, while also supporting my allies as best as possible, this has lead me to believe the Guardian, Warrior & Engineer are the best choices, but i’m unsure which one would be the best choice for me.

I don’t have a problem playing either 3, as i enjoy the play-style of all 3, but what i would enjoy more is being able to excell at what it is i’m after.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what class i should play? Personally i’m leaning more towards the guardian, but i wanted to get a second (or third & fourth) opinion, before i invest the time.

Mostly Solo PVE & some WvW action, i’d say i’d define sneaky as being the type of person who sneaks around the back, takes someone out, retreats then slowly inches forward to do the same again, hence the reason why i bought up both necromancer and rangers, being able to take out a target from a distance feels a lot safer than running up to the target amongst a zerg

So, i’m looking to start up an alt, with the elements of being fast, somewhat sneaky and quick at taking out a class. Because of this, i feel the best class is going to be the thief, but i’ve also contemplated on playing the ranger or necromancer also, but because it’s so easy to feel peer pressured on the internet, especially when choosing a character is involved, seeing a chunk of people complain about how poorly their class performs, pushes you away from playing said class.

I know i’m asking for too much to be able to solo with the said class that is able to both be sneaky and a fairly good solo’er, with all that said however, out of the 3 classes i have listed, would everyone suggest i just stick with a thief?

Supportive Build?

Hey, i’m a budding guardian, hoping to be in the 80s soon, with that said, i’m mostly looking for the playstyle in which i can focus more on supporting my allies instead of focusing entirely on damage and supporting myself, i like to be that type of person who can either change the course of a battle with my supportive roles, or take the full blunt of the enemy force by standing right in front of them and making sure everything goes for me, of course with the removal of the holy trinity in GW2, the latter isn’t really possible.

With that said, is it possible to get a highly supportive role out of the guardian? If so, how would i go about doing so? The only weapons that i’ve assumed would be good for a supportive role are the staff for the 4 ability, and the Hammer for the short protection buff it offers, or am i missing something entirely?

At first i thought an AH build would be what i was after, but then i realized that i had misread the description, and that AH healed me and not the allies i applied the boon to.

Deluxe Wizard Hat

I’ve noticed the current promotion where if you upgrade to Deluxe, you get a Wizard hat, i’m just wondering if all the people who had the Deluxe edition before this promotion will also get the wizard hat? Because i would very much like that hat on my Elementalist!

Hey, Mesmer community!

I’m just here hoping to have a few questions answered if it’s not too much trouble to answer them for me.

First and foremost, i should mention that i’ve never played a spellcaster before to a reasonable level, enough to understand them properly that is, in MMO’s, i think the only time i’ve ever played a Mage, is in the Elder scrolls series, but i don’t think that counts. I’m too used to buffing myself up with plate armor and taking the punishment, so i may ask some questions that seem very silly.

Now on with the questions!

1. I’m currently level 7, and I’ve been running around getting a feel for the weapons, they all feel incredibly weak compared to how i was doing on my warrior, but I’ve decided to stick with the great-sword & staff, i tried the sword, but it felt so weak, and i was taking too much damage up close, am i taking the right route?

2. My Illusions, how exactly do i manage them? The majority of them feel like they’re doing nothing at all, when they’re up, i see a lot of 0’s, will this change?

3. With my warrior, i found it easy to figure out which heal to use, but with the Mesmer, i’m having difficulties in figuring out which one would be the best to use, what one are most people using?

4. Are there any skills that are a must have to have equipped? For example with my warrior, i ended up having For great justice! on every build i had.

5. Traits – In the future i’m hoping to become a sort of buff/condition monster, sort of like Buff classes in other MMO’s, the bards in Everquest as an example, what would be the best build/weapon combo to go with this?

I too was disconnected right at the end, i even have several screenshots to prove that i was there during the events progression.

Bit pissed off at how i wasted about 2 hours of my time, on this one time event, and got nothing from it, i could’ve level’d faster and saved a lot of coin if i just went and did my usual routine instead of constantly dying and having to sink my cash into repairs.

I disagree, i recently found the right build that works for me (Thanks to defektive) and i’m having a blast, and i seem to be doing quite well.

I’m tough to take out, and the longer the fight goes on, the more damage i end up doing per swing, seems to work out quite well considering i don’t keel over as quickly as most classes/builds.

I would just like to thank you Defektive for this build, i was losing interest in my warrior due to feeling pretty useless in PvP, most likely because i hadn’t found the right build that works for me, this is that build though, it’s kicked up the enjoyment in my warrior for me and stopped me from re-rolling, so thanks, great build and i’ll definitely be using it for quite a while!

Sturdiest Class?

Hi everyone, being someone who normally plays a class that can take a beating (tanks) in MMO’s, and with Guild wars 2 straying away from the holy trinity of MMO’s, i’m having a bit of trouble finding a class i’d like to focus most of my time on.

I’m leaning towards Guardian, as from what i’ve seen and heard, they seem like a very “tanky” type class if you spec the traits for it, but i’d just like to get a bit of verification before i invest some time in a class i’ve got the wrong idea for.

Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated. :-)
