Far to much focus and expectations are put on the pugs in this game, with raids.

By the players, or the developers? I do think a lot of people are missing the fun of having a consistent group of people to raid with, when they go down the PUG route.

Players sadly. Pugs should not be the go to for raiding. its an acronym for “Picking Up Group” or “Pick Up Group”, as we all know.
Our guild quit doing raids because everyone would pug them, easy clear was the reply. So the raids in themselves are somewhat of a fail when pugs are the answer for clearing each week, and not your guild.
But this and all the other posts have been saying the same thing, just different flavors and I doubt its going to change so you either roll with it like Talindra and her hubby do or you stop like me.

You can pug raids.

Oh! You’ve solved this entire problem then! Apparently raids are easily puggable, and everyone who says otherwise is wrong somehow.

Yes, depending of your connection hours and your own expérience, you can easily beat 6 or 7 boss / events in pug ( matthias and xera are, in my opinion, more difficult to pug)

Depending on your class/build and how many LI you have, that’s what pugs look at sadly. Skill has nothing to do with since you are never given the chance to show if you have said skills or not.

On that we can agree. As for your other bit, that’s called progression and yea, while wipe after wipe is not fun, the goal is to eventually get a bit further each time and that’s why you should really look for progression with a guild.
PUGS by nature were never meant to be such and its sad that many people have to look to pugs in order to progress. That’s a disconnect right there. Guilds need to be progressing and the occasional pug is there for those that missed the weekly guild raid, period. Far to much focus and expectations are put on the pugs in this game, with raids.

All we ask for is that you run one of the correct builds for your class (these can be found at metabattle.com or qtfy.enjin.com).

That’s the disconnect, granted, in my opinion/experiences.

While what you posted and are offering is awesome….this above kills it for me and is why raids are in a flux. But good on ya for offering up to people!

Actual though, after re-reading it I do see that you aren’t excluding anyone per-say but only asking that they run a build for their class that is proven to be useful…fair enough.

Ok…..Ohoni.6057, what is it about raids that you cant do? You have mentioned over and over and over and over how you want them dumbed down, for you, so YOU can get easy rewards. Sounds a bit one-sided and cheeky to me. That’s like going to school, wanting to be in grade 12 and get your diploma as a 7th grader.
But I miss what you are really on about, other than easy loots. SO what is it that is stopping you from raids, or is it that they are just to hard, for you, as a player?
I have stated my problem, with the exclusion part of it, so what’s yours mate? Just curious as to your point you are trying to make, post after post.

Except I enjoy absolutely having to clear a difficult challenge to obtain cool rewards. An opt out like easy mode as you describe it would destroy my value. You might not want the same or you might not agree, however you must accept this what I like and what used to be missing in gw2 for me. And guess what ? I am the target audience for raids and you are not.

Have said it before and will repeat, RAids do not need to be made easy. They are fine as they are. The PROBLEM is getting into them. As long as we have the exclusion of classes its gonna suck, period. In most MMO’s, all classes can dps, be it a mage, a rogue a warrior or a monk. Now some classes are better suited for certain roles, i.e. tanks, heals, etc. but EVERY class is viable as a dps role. A Fire Mage can dps just as well as an Elemental Shaman, played and geared right. Not so in the this game, and that’s what sucks as it makes people not want your class for raids.
So no, please no “easy mode” for the raids, it will kill them all together. Just fix the classes and the meta only mentality and we all be laughin!

Stick with engineer imo. I can’t speak for fractals as I do not play them but for the other two categories…

Condi engi has been and continues to be top tier dps if you learn your rotation well. This will have you a spot on all wing 1 encounters with plenty of helpful utility for your team.

Power engi is also rather high dps and will almost certainly have higher dps than the average pug ele given its incredibly simple rotation, though a more appropriate comparison is to a thief. Xera is great for engi. Sabetha is also good as a cannon runner, rifle 5 serving as a “blink”.

Solo is where engineer really shines as you have a solution (sometimes very creative ones!) to practically every situation lurking in your skills and traits.

I just checked out all Engineer raid and fotm builds on metabattle; wouldn’t recommend the site for anything but basic stuff for each profession.

Condi is slightly outdated in terms of priority moves and traits and power is a complete mess with the list of priority moves lacking essential dps skills.


It has been a while sind I recorded my dps rotations, unfortunately my tower died, so I’m currently trying to play on my Laptop. But I wanted to record power Engi anyway since it’s dps got buffed quite good with perma Alacrity and a proper rotation.

So about the main question – what rotation do you want, power or condi? The condi one is almost perfectly executed by qT in this vid:

Oh yes, good ol ICC and the Emerald Dream Dragon “fight”! And many of the new raids in Daenor had you using a maze to guide the boss into for damage and then of course the many tank swap encounters.
And as someone mentioned on here somewhere, ANET is only just scratching the surface when it comes to raids and content and such. Give em time guys, and hopefully they will get creative and bump it a bit. Just no WOW clones please, I don’t think any of us want that.

Also Using Mouse too much? Are you Skill-Klicking?

trying not to, have a lot of the skills bound to other keys like ~ and such but still tend to move with mouse instead of keyboard. But I be right……just practice!

Lol….the problem is me not getting out of her flamewall fast enough and fun things like that (I’m 55 and my reflexes are not like most of you, I tend to use the mouse to much still) and I am on NA server.

But TBH if the first Raid of GW2 would like that, with Bosses on Mythic Archimonde Level in Terms of difficulty, it would be too much of a culture Shock. The first Raid is there to introduce GW2 Players into Raiding, it don’t need to be really difficult, its Challenging but you can still mess up a few Things without wiping the entire Raid and I think the second one will also more like getting People more comfortable with Raiding but then Anet should amp up the difficulty of the next Raids

No, just the opposite. He is saying that if they were like Mythic WOW raids it would be a culture shock to the GW2 players, not what exists now.
And a “raid” by its very definition are meant to be harder than regular open world daily pve kind of stuff. But you have every right, just like anyone to not like it and then simply not do it. But not to demand that it gets made easier just to suit you.

“Mythic Archimonde Level in Terms of difficulty”…yeah!! Ouchies!!! tough fight that one. But I agree with what you said…it was a shock to me that GW2 raids weren’t like those mentioned. I was expecting some serious wipes, and have had a few but they are due more to people not mastering mechanics than the Boss being really tough. Sab for me is a stinker yet others blow past her, go figure!

Now thats raiding!! Raid team, takes many weeks to just get to Boss let alone kill it….many wipes, go back and try again.

But it propably won’t come until quite some time..
No prob, for now the current raid wing is still keeping me busy. I’m still at sabetha
over 20 kills on both gorseval and VGuardian, but none on sabetha, she’s a hard skritt to crack

Same here….so close to Eternal title, ah well. Sab just does me head in as well, just need to do her more I reckon.

Yes, I know our “rotation” is unique in the sense that we have to watch cd’s and such but still be handy to have something basic to draw from and then folks can adapt from there? And no, I have nothing as I cant make vids….but you leet guys can!!!

How easily do you get into raids as engineer?
I really like the engineer class but I wanna raid alot and I ain’t sure engineer does well for that

Try running with your guild, much more forgiving in what classes to take I have found. I don’t PUG anymore for that very reason, no one wants to “try” an Engi, they scared that we will suck. And sadly I have seen quite a few that do,going in and camping FT and that’s it? Yea, not good advertisement for the class for sure.

yea, sadly its gone down the WTF road.

Ok, easy fix then. Lets go the other way with this argument….make raids, dare I say it, HARDER! Yup, make a oh I dunno, say, Heroic mode, and have the special armor/rewards associated with such tied to completing them in that mode?
But seriously, with the comment above, that is what killed raids in WOW. Blizzard dumbed down raids and made them so everyone could do them, the dreaded LFR, and all you had to do was run along blindly,tag up,ignore any mechanics and still get the rewards. Sounds like that is what you want Ohoni and that’s not a good road to go down. Leave raids alone and let ANET focus on making all (or most)the classes more desirable and work on changing peoples mentality about meta or go home type of runs. I mean if people want to run with a pure “meta” setup that’s their call of course, just loosen up a bit folks, that’s all.

Engi is awesome fun but yea, even though our dps is on par with most we are still struggling cuz of the lame ol “meta” mentality.
Ranger/Druid is fun as well but there is just sooo many. Aside from that though I think Druid would be best all-around choice for what you looking for right now. Then you can come back and roll an Engi!!

Yea, good point! Bad choice of the English for me on that one. As many have said many times, ALL classes are viable, but which of those people actually want to take is where the issues lie.
But I shall hold the faith! When I came back to this game almost 2 years now I rolled a Necro and was blasted for it. “Selfish” class, sucks,no one wants,etc. Then look what happened….Necros blew up! So now that I have found a class I really enjoy I will stick with it and hope that Engi’s too get another look-see and some love, as well as any other class that could use the developer “hug-of-not-being-sucky”!

While more Classes should be able to give out these Class Buffs. Anet should prevent the Players from Overkilling with the Buffs and having like 20 unique Damage Buffs.

That’s why I say they should give either the exact same buffs or buffs that DO NOT STACK with what we already have.

Yea, how hard would it be to have turrets be something of use? We have a trait that does give might/fury etc depending on the turret but cd on the trait is crap so its useless.
Little less of this and more having traits that are actually useful? That way our turrets would perhaps behave the same as banners while even doing some dps as well?
The “fix” is out there, and its close. Just a matter of whether ANET cares to make the fix so in the meantime we go afk in LA.

Except that it’s not a fun experience. It might be fun for you, but that doesn’t mean that other players will have just as much fun with it. Resistance to raids has nothing to do with “not giving it a chance.”

Really? You are making that argument? That’s ANY game anywhere and not even anywhere near to what is trying to be discussed here. As mentioned before I like many do not PVP, never have and most likely never will. But does the game suck or is it not fun…not even close.

This is gw2efficiency’s table of magnetite shards. Assuming people don’t spend them as soon as they get them, if you are making an argument for how ‘most players have never even set foot into raids’, you’ll need to explain how more than 50% of the playerbase who’ve clocked a few thousand hours into the game – the ‘veterans’ that have supposedly been driven away in hordes by the raid content – have a few shards in their wallet.

If you don’t like the content, it’s fine. There’s other content for you to enjoy. I started this game one week after launch and I’ve never entered a PVP match. Should I have quit the game when they had the PVP seasons, PVP-exclusive skins, or devoted their resources into the Skyhammer and Capricorn maps? My neighbour does a few things that really, really irk me. Does this mean I’ll have to pack up all my things and move house?

The reluctance to experience raid content is largely driven by players who have to overcome their mindset that the raid experience is necessarily going to be like XYZ. If you spend 15 minutes in teamspeak with any static team, you know it’s a fun experience for people. Otherwise no one would be doing it.

Is there room for improvement? Always. So many have been suggested. Have an ‘easy mode’ for raid bosses with fewer mechanics and a more forgiving enrage timer, which gives you a legendary insight fragment and combine 5 fragments into one legendary insight. Have a LFG tab thing dedicated to guilds and static teams looking to recruit potential new raiders. Give alacrity, might-stacking capabilities and power/precision-enhancing traits to other classes. Make boons shared squad-wide in raid instances only and double HP of bosses to compensate for the inevitable 3 boon-givers 7 DPS meta.

But if you’ve never tried broccoli before and absolutely hate it and will never ever give it a go, there’s no improvements that anyone else can make that will make you put one in your mouth.

Nailed it mate, bang on! And good on ya for doing what so many others aren’t, staying on topic. Rednik, let it go and quit having a go at folks. Whats happening here is people are trying to improve something, not tear it down.
And the points made in the “improvements” paragraph are bang on as well. Easy mode?…kk, maybe not but the other bits would really be a huge boost to playing.
So lets keep more of this type of feedback coming guys, maybe it will get something accomplished?

Engineer needs a good autoattack. It won’t fix everything but it will at least give us one or more utility slots. It would also be nice if Glass Cannon and Shaped Charge were made baseline and replaced with actual explosives themed skills so that you don’t have to take Explosives to hit someone with your non-exploding weapons. Then we might have one free traitline as well!

Yes please! Make those or some others baseline like you said and it frees us up from being locked down into traits that we really don’t use for the most part. Some versatility to our builds would be a joy and opening up a traitline or two would leave room for some much needed utility, GROUP SUPPORT kind of stuff. Make us viable again.

Amen! back on topic people. We don’t work for ANET so who gives a rats fart as to their earnings? I don’t play a game for the company’s earnings or whatever, I play for fun.
Lots of great ideas were brought up but then someone goes and get kitten or something silly and derails the whole thread. I see yet another closure coming. No wonder we don’t ever see any positive feedback from ANET…..

Sounds great to me! Anything to help make Engi a tad more viable for content and play. Have often wondered about our AA, me being a fairly new Engineer and all it did seem a bit lackluster compared to other classes.

Except it is not unavoidable. The game existed for 3+ years without the need to make this kind of compromise to profession design.

Ask any old ranger, engineer or necromancer and you will find they’ve been excluded in the past from playing content on their profession of choice. The broken diversity isn’t something new and it’s not something exclusive to raids, in fact it’s as old as the game itself. The first “meta” I remember was back in 2012 and was called “4 Warriors + 1 Mesmer” meta comp, and everyone else wasn’t needed. Or during the fiery greatsword era, go Elementalist and forget anything else.

That’s about exclusion. Now about giving abilities from one profession to the other:

For example, Rangers have Spotter which increases the Precision of allies, it would definitely fit the theme of the Thief to have a similar ability, call it Reveal Weakness.

Warriors have banners which inspire and boost the abilities of allies, why not give the Revenant an ability to summon a visage of a legend, that is stationary and provides similar benefits to a Warrior banner.

Engineers are masters of alchemy. We’ve seen powerful Hylek alchemy, for example take a look at the Hylek turrets. They can provide might and quickness for a group. An Engineer could get a potion mastery that he drops aoe fields on the ground and create similar effects to those turrets.

Removing the 1-sec cooldown from Empowering Might and the Guardian competes with a Phalanx Strength Warrior for the spot of Might Stacking.

All I’m saying is that giving the same stacking abilities to different professions doesn’t make them one of the same and it doesn’t hurt the lore or the theme, if done right.

BINGO!!! You nailed it my friend! Those suggestions (hell, AWESOME IDEAS!) are exactly what would fix the issue, period. ANET doesn’t need to make raids easier, or training modes or any of that junk. Simply (?) implement what has been mentioned right here along with some others and we rocking! Everyone can go back to posting pics of their toons and builds and FUN things.
So come on ANET……pick it and run with it! Again, well done with this post mate!!

Sadly this thread is in danger of going down the “not staying on point” disease so guys, bring it back to all the GOOD points and ideas you all were making. There is a lot of really good discussion and ideas in here and if it stays positive then mayhaps ANET will give a look into.
If all they see is the same ol crying over “I cant get into a raid” kind of topics they will just close it like the others.
Raids don’t need to be made “easy”, god no, then they wouldn’t be what they were intended to be, harder. But making them more accessible to the player base is where the disconnect seems to be. It is for me on the most part, and many others from what I have read.
Don’t get me wrong, I can raid, have done so with my guild and pugs and have been successful and it was fun. What sucked the fun out of was being told what toon I HAD to come on. I would really much prefer to be able to do ANY content with what I would call my “main”, and I think that’s the core of all these posts. Fix that and we rockin!
But, great discussions on the most part and yea all, keep it positive like many have mentioned and maybe make a difference, it could happen? I mean trump just might win so crazier stuff does happen! :P

My complaint about raids is how it destroys the idea of the “no trinity” in GW2, because now there’s one: Chronomancer, PS Warrior and Druid. Basically if you don’t have these, you’re not getting anywhere aside the easy encounters like VG, Trio or Escort and that’s a big shame.

We had so many options in the past before HoT came out, everything was cool but now it isn’t, I have to play Fresh Air Tempest or Chronotank because if I don’t I’m getting rejected by people in raids, guild or PUGs.

I already said it but they have to get back to dungeons and do more fractals without previous content rehash (Chaos Isle is cheap to me, the only new content was Thaumanova Reactor in 2013).

I have said this since way back, and its a lot of the reason I don’t raid. Now, are they bad….dunno, having done several when doing them they are fun, its just getting into them is all. That’s what needs to be fixed.

Now that’s something I wasn’t aware and shines a whole new light on things. Thanks for that and yea, sadly if that’s the case then it wont be changing any time soon.

It’s pretty obvious that the content of the quote is utter nonsense.

Apart from that, it’s what Tex already wrote: There will always be a meta that many pugs want to enforce for dumb reasons. We saw that in dungeons, we saw/see it in fractals, why should raids be any different.

Yea, I get it. Don’t like it and its sad but its there. Ah well….someday.

To which I blame the “meta” for, as that’s what most look at for raid comp. Lose that and bring in people that can do the job needed in spite of class and we have a win.

That’s very true, but – unfortunately – there is no way to lose it in the current model.

When developers balance an entire game mode almost exclusively around the meta, this is the situation that results – where math, rather than flavor, fun and build diversity, rule the day.

In the current model, raiding will (realistically) always cater to a tiny number of professions and builds. There is just no way around that without either completely destroying build diversity or nerfing the content to the point that the meta builds actually make it too easy.

It’s a broken system imo, and needs to be rethought.

yea, reason 20 why I quit raiding and playing WOW. Please ANET do not bring something like that, ever.
And I hate to use WOW as a reference but it kinda fits so meh…. How many times did guild run Kara? Over and over, wek after week, because someone always died in the flames…lol. That Boss was a cause of so many g-quits and kicks! But guess what…people got it. It will happen. granted a year in and still people not doing VG or first wing at least? Yea, may need to have a look but not a complete overhaul.

Now, in no way are the raids in this game easy. What with the class restrictions put upon everyone from the meta community to the pages of text that proceed this post, they are tough. But that’s a good thing!! End game is meant to be that. And this game is still very young in MMO years and they have a long way to go raids to improve, and I think they will.

You come from WoW, which is a very different game, and I don’t think you mean any harm by it, but the GW2 community was founded on the notion of moving AWAY from that sort of “this is endgame, it’s supposed to be hard” mentality. Not everyone enjoys that sort of thing, and this was once the game for those players to live. The concern is that we’re moving away from that Elysia.

Amen to that! I am still struggling with how different it all is. having always been the tank I was excited about raids, til they came out. Lol, omg how different, not old school tanking for sure. But that’s a good thing and I have since adapted, I don’t want a WOW clone, I left for something new and challenging and its just that.
The reason I mentioned the endgame comment is simply because that’s what many refer to on these posts, that’s raids were meant to be that. Doesn’t mean I agree, just what I have read.
I have stopped raiding for 1, pc issues but the other is something I just experienced for an escort run. LFG was asking for dps…kk, not a problem, I’ll come on my Engi. No thanks, we want PS or Rev. That’s what has killed raids for me. And to the post below, yea I get that there will always be metas, WOW had Gear score and it was a nightmare. I had hoped that a different game would not cop to such things, but people out there do want to know and be told what works, whats awesome and what sucks, so I get it. Don’t like it, but yea, its there.

So I was wondering, after 5 full pages, how is an easy mode for raids going to make the normal mode of raids more accessible? Or that’s not a goal at all?

Pretty obvious. More people with encounter experience -> more people in normal raids and less people without experience in normal raids -> less wipes in normal raids and more groups with wider diversity -> normal mode becoming less frustrating and pug demands becoming less ridiculous -> even more people are willing to try raid and so on. This is positive feedback loop.

But you have nailed it, and its called progression! And that’s how you accomplish it. Now, I don’t agree that there needs to be an “easy mode”, that’s just silly. What would work is less focus on the “meta” and more on allowing people that can fill the role,dps,heals, sorta tank, do just that without pigeonholing everyone into playing (or raiding actually) with only one build/class. Then when the nerfs come we wont see the dreaded “Oh my god, Rev is dead” and that junk. Regardless of class if you can do the job or fill the role and do the mechanics (<key) then you should be viable and allowed a go. That equates to more people going and more people learning, and all you points above come true.

The majority of actual raiding guilds don’t even touch the easier modes and the vast majority of players who do play the easier modes do not touch the higher difficulty modes. That’s very easy to check if you see the world first clears are on hard mode versions while the number of people who finish the easy modes are a lot more than the people who do the harder modes (no shock there).

I’m not really sure what your point is, but everything you said in there sounds really great. Let’s import that all to GW2, stat!

The point was that those who do the higher difficulty Raids in WoW do not use the easier difficulties to train for them, they just go to the higher difficulty versions directly -that’s what the world first and speedclears appearing on hard mode first and not on easy mode first mean.
And those who do the easier mode Raids do not then move to the higher difficulties but stay and finish the lower difficulty versions. That’s what the difference in audience between the easy mode and the hard mode means, easy mode has more players.
Makes sense?

that’s actually not true for the majority of any raiding guild in WOW. Having been in both hard core and casual in both we started with “normal” mode,if you will, and then once that was on farm progressed on to the Heroic and now Mythic modes. Very few go straight into Mythic, or didn’t used to. Now, WOW has been dumbed down so much that maybe it is possible to to jump straight into the fire, but most don’t. The modes are there to progress, and that’s what every guild in WOW wants, progression.
Now, the raids in this game are, and I am going to cope it for sure but oh well, the are not truely raids. They are more like single boss fights with a bit of trash then heaps of mechanics. When I can see my guildies go in and do Gors in like 30 mins, that’s not a raid. Where’s the tons of trash….several wings,smaller Bosses til you get to the “big guy”?

Whats needs to stop is the toxic behaviour of folks against folks trying to do them. Several pages back it was suggested that you make your own LFG and go from there. BINGO! That’s the ticket, mic drop and leave please, nuff said!

Not sure what to say as my Engi rocks with maps, raids, metas, whatever. Mobs die just as fast as any other spec really although rifle can be tad weak. Remember, with Engi its about swapping kits and such, not camping one skill over and over. Now Mesmers, yes, they kinda blow in dps in open world but I am actually have some good fun as condi.
So I would say stick it out if you like the class, otherwise don’t bother.
